Chapter 11

(Kate folds her arms and tilts her head with a serious expression)

Kate: "Okay, Jackass. I'll bite. What's this big secret that you have to tell me?"

Jose: (chuckles evilly) "Oh, Kate. It's not my secret. It's yours...and Ana's."

Kate: (confused) "What the hell are you talking about?"

(Jose walks around the living room of Kate and Ana's apartment, feeling as carefree as a bird)

Jose: "Oh, Kate. You thought it was hidden." (smirks) "Boy, were you wrong."

(Kate was losing her patience. She was about ready to throw his worthless ass out where he belonged)

Kate: (yells) "Jesus Christ, Jose! Either say what you came to say or get the hell out!"

(Jose smiles sweetly at her, causing her to throw her hands up in the air in impatience)

Kate: "Spit it out!"

Jose: "I wonder if your mom would like to know how your stepfather really died, Kate?"

(She looks at him strangely before shaking her head)

Kate: "What the hell are you talking about?"

(He chuckles as he folds his arms)

Jose: "Oh, Kate. Don't tell me that you forgot already? You're twenty-two. It wasn't that long ago when the incident happened."

(Kate is still confused. She didn't know what the hell he was talking about)

Kate: "You're talking in riddles, you dumbass. Spit it out or leave. I won't repeat myself again."

(Jose walks to her. So close that they are mere inches apart. He gives her a deathly glare)

Jose: "I'm talking about the time when you were sixteen years old and you killed your father. I'm sure that doesn't hold very good memories."

(Kate stares at him in complete shock. How the hell did he know about that? No one knew about that. No one except Ana. Ana swore to Kate that she would never repeat it. So, how did Jose find out?! Kate needed to know. Kate attempts to speak, but nothing comes out. All that she is able to do is stutter. She gulps in some are as she faces her nemesis. She is finally able to form words)

Kate: "How-How the hell did you...? How...?"

(Jose raises his eyebrows and smirks in complete satisfaction)

Jose: "How the hell did I know about your dark secret, Kate?"

(Kate shakes her head as she can't hide the horror in her face)

Kate: "No one knows about that. No one. I have never told anyone about that."

Jose: "You told one person, Kate. Don't count out Ana."

(Kate faces him angrily and points at him)

Kate: "She would never tell you, you prick!"

Jose: (tilts his head) "Are you sure about that?"

Kate: (nods) "Yes, I am. Who the fuck told you?"

(Jose laughs hard as he makes himself comfortable on the couch. He leans back and rests his arms on the top of the couch. He crosses his legs and smiles at the young woman)

Jose: "Don't worry, Kavanagh. It wasn't Ana. That is one secret she has never told anyone."

(She rushes to him and kicks his legs, causing them to unfold. She yells at him in fierceness)

Kate: "Who the fuck told you?!"

Jose: (smiles) "Wouldn't you like to know?" (sighs) "You know, Kavanagh, you would be surprised at what a little money can do for you. I had a friend who shall remain nameless who told me of your little dirty deed. I also paid him off to make him happy. If I ever need him to find anything else for me, he said he'd gladly do it."

(She points at him in a fit of rage)

Kate: "You tell anyone and I swear...!"

Jose: (folds his arms) "You'll what? Huh?" (laughs) "Face it, Kate. Your threats mean nothing to me. Threaten me all you want. It won't matter." (smiles confidently) "I have you right where I want you."

(She knew he was right. She decided to play her last card. It was all she had left)

Kate: "How do I know that you're not lying, huh? You could just be saying this to yank my chain."

Jose: (shrugs) "You want proof?"

Kate: (nods) "You bet your ass I do."

Jose: "Okay. I'll get it for you from my guy tonight and come back here tomorrow to show you the proof. Then you will know I'm not lying."

Kate: "Fine."

Jose: (chuckles) "Don't forget to warn your little accomplice."

Kate: (venomously spits) "Ana has nothing to do with this! You leave her the fuck out of this!"

Jose: (snorts) "Not on your life, Kavanagh."

(He leaves the apartment. In a panicked state, Kate rushes to the door and locks it. She breathes heavily trying to sort out her thoughts and emotions. She hugs herself for comfort as she contemplates her situation out loud)

Kate: "What the hell am I going to do? How did he know that? No one besides Ana and I were aware of the truth. Oh, Ana. Please get here quickly. You need to know what's going on." (briefly closes her eyes) "Oh, shit. That's right. You're at Christian's company right now finding out if you got the job." (sighs sadly) "Oh, Ana. I'm so sorry I got you involved in my mess."

***Christian Grey Enterprises***

(Ana walks through the front doors of Christian's company. She closes her eyes and attempts to calm her nerves. Soon, she will find out whether or not he is hiring her to be his Editor for 'Grey Magazine'. She didn't realize it until that moment how badly she wanted the job. It felt like no one inspired her more or intimidated her more than Christian Grey. She liked that he did that, though. He wanted her to be her best at everything. Yes, there were other companies she also wouldn't mind trying and who wanted her. It all honesty, though, she wanted to be a part of his company)

(She couldn't help but be intrigued by his attitude on life. He didn't take shit from anybody and did anything to get what he wants. She's read many articles on him. It impressed her as well as surprised her. She couldn't help but wonder what the REAL Christian Grey was like. She hoped to find out)

(She gets off the elevator and goes to Courtney's secretary office. The young woman glances up to see Ana)

Courtney: (smiles) "Hello, Miss Steele!"

Ana: (smiles) "Just Ana, please. Hello to you, as well."

Courtney: (chuckles) "No problem, Ana. Are you ready for your appointment with Mr. Grey?"

Ana: (nods) "Yes. I take it he's in?"

Courtney: "Yes, ma'am." (rolls her eyes) "Even though you're right on time, he's been expecting you for the last fifteen minutes. He is definitely persistent."

Ana: (laughs) "From what I've heard and witnessed, I'm sure he is."

(Courtney walks around her desk to Ana and leads her to Christian's office. She knocks before entering)

Courtney: "Anastasia Steele to see you, Mr. Grey."

(While looking at the view, he speaks)

Christian: "Send her in."

(Before Courtney exits, she whispers 'good luck' to Ana. Ana whispers 'thank you' back. Ana slowly walks to Christian's desk)

Christian: "You don't have to be afraid, you know? Well, not yet, anyway."

Ana: (chuckles) "Funny. I wasn't sure whether or not you had a sense of humor considering you always seem so serious."

(He turns halfway around to look at Ana)

Christian: "Very true. I am serious most of the time. It doesn't happen a lot where I'm funny."

(She is about to sit down when he speaks again)

Christian: "You wanna come see the view? It's amazing."

(She walks to him and then speaks)

Ana: "I've seen the view before. Remember, at my interview?"

Christian: (nods) "Aw, yes. I don't know about you, though, but I never get tired of seeing the outside world. Call it what you will, but it's like an escape to me. I could stare out there for hours."

(Ana is beside him and tilts her head in curiosity)

Ana: "Have you ever stared out the window for that long?"

(Christian looks at her out of the corner of his right eye for a few moments before answering)

Christian: "Yes, I have. I shouldn't though, as I always have mountains of paperwork to do."

(She tries to hold back a chuckle at his confession. She clears her throat and nods)

Ana: "It is very beautiful to look at."

Christian: (thinks to himself) "Not as beautiful as you, though. Fuck! I shouldn't be thinking that! I need to stay professional. How the hell is that going to work if I hire you? I still don't know whether or not it is a good idea."

(He rests his hands in his suit pockets. He sighs as he looks at Ana)

Christian: "We shouldn't be standing here like this. Looking at the view won't accomplish anything."

(She can't help the smile and wink she gives him)

Ana: "I won't tell if you don't."

(He laughs hard at her innocent comment. He couldn't help but like her more and more. Oh, what in the hell was she doing to him? He should tell her to leave and not look back. He was an asshole to lots of people and he didn't give a shit about it. To Courtney, he showed intimidation. She was feisty right back and he couldn't help but appreciate that. With Ana...he couldn't explain it. It was like he was more carefree. He was almost willing to let her see the real him. Notice how he said 'almost'. He wasn't sure he could open up to her. He has had too much heartache, so much drama in his life. He didn't want any more)

(He clears his throat before telling her to take a seat. He sits down on his desk chair and leans back. He turns his chair slightly)

Christian: "You know why I asked you here, right?"

Ana: (nods) "Yes. To tell me whether or not I got the Editorial position."

(He didn't know what possessed him to make his next move. He gets up from his desk chair and slowly walks to the chair next to Ana's. She was wondering what he was doing. She continues to place her hands on her lap and folds them. She tries to smile, but her insecurities kick in. She looks down while trying to make eye contact)

Christian: (raises his eyebrows) "You do realize that sooner or later you will have to make eye contact with me. We're bound to see each other outside of my building sometime. Just like our first encounter on the sidewalk."

Ana: (nods) "I know."

(She looks up at him and sees his caring face)

Ana: "Why are you being so nice to me? We barely know each other? You were nice to me the first time we met, too."

Christian: "Actually, if I recall, I was a prick to you first. Then I saw you were upset." (shakes his head) "You never did tell me why you were upset."

Ana: "It doesn't matter. It's over and done with."

(She looks away, yet he doesn't take his eyes off of her)

Christian: "Why do I get the feeling that it's not...over?"

(She turns to him)

Ana: "What do you mean?"

Christian: "I don't know why, but it feels like you would like to move on, but someone won't let you."

Ana: (shrugs) "Sometimes that's life, I guess."

(He looks away from her to change the subject)

Christian: (clears his throat) "My apologies. It was none of my business."

Ana: (chuckles a little) "Maybe someday I'll tell you."

(A smile forms for a moment from Christian before he gets back to business)

Christian: "I have been trying to decide whether or not to hire you."

Ana: (nods) "Okay."

Christian: (shakes his head) "It's not because I feel you won't do a good job here. I think you'll do great."

Ana: (puzzled) "Then what is it?"

Christian: (thinks to himself) "How the hell do I tell her it's because I'm afraid of letting my feelings get in the way? That I'm afraid I'll fall for her after vowing not to as I've been hurt so badly before? I know I shouldn't let my fears dictate my delusions regarding Ana. Can I honestly keep things professional? Oh, what do I do?"

(His thoughts are dashed when she attempts to comfort him by placing her hand over his. He quickly looks at her hand over his before looking into her beautiful eyes)

Ana: "I will understand if you want to hire someone better."

(She makes a bold move, catching even her off-guard)

Ana: "Or hiring someone that's not me."

(He continues to stare into her eyes and can't help get lost in them. He leans towards her in an attempt to know more about her, through her eyes. He opens his mouth slightly and blinks. He can't take it anymore! He quickly withdraws his hand from under hers. He gets up in a rush and walks fast out of his office. She watches this and wonders what just happened)
