So...I'm back with Chapter Eleven! Yay! And...special surprise! It's fluffy for Valentine's Day! Happy Valentine's Day...even though I never really celebrate that holiday...but nevertheless! Enjoy!
Big thanks to uyay, my beta, and here's the disclaimer. It goes to all chapters in this fanfic. I do not own Ouran. Wish I did though.
Haruhi yawned and patted Honey's head. His head was in her lap and they were on the couch, struggling not to fall asleep. The entire host club had decided to stay over at Honey's mansion, Tamaki and Kyoya included. Haruhi and Honey were watching an old movie, Haruhi couldn't remember the name of it, while the rest of the club was in the kitchen. Haruhi found it very suspicious but was too tired to care.
Haruhi thought that Honey was asleep since he hadn't moved or said anything since he had first laid down on her lap. Haruhi was absentmindedly rubbing his hair and only noticed that Honey was still awake when he asked, "Haru-chan?"
Haruhi stopped rubbing his head. "Yeah?"
Honey yawned, "Do you like Takashi?"
Haruhi blushed and stammered, "I, um…" She cleared her throat and asked, hopeful to distract the third year, "Why would you ask that?"
"Never mind," Honey placated and he yawned. He snuggled deeper to Haruhi's lap and said no more. Three minutes later, Haruhi heard a faint snore come from his mouth and she sighed. Looking back to the movie, she realized there was no way she would fall asleep with so much on her mind now.
…..~…
Mori looked around the kitchen. The twins were sitting at the small kitchen table, unfinished meals in front of them as they stared blankly at random spots in the kitchen. Tamaki was standing by the sink with Kyoya, both holding a large stack of papers. Each paper had a name and a picture, all boys in Haruhi's classes.
"Maybe it's Nakamura Akito. He is in Haruhi's English class."
Kyoya shook his head. "He has an alibi. He has been in America for the past week."
Tamaki sighed and turned to the twins. "Have you remembered anyone suspicious yet?"
Hikaru and Kaoru shook their heads. "No."
"Well then maybe it's-"
"I'm going out to get some air," Mori interrupted and before anyone could say anything, he walked out of the kitchen.
As he navigated the empty halls, he thought, I can't do this anymore. If I was actually worthy of Haruhi, I'd be able to protect her without any problems or delays.
Mori exited the house and sat along the wall, his head in his hands. It's too much, he thought.
"What are you up to, Mori-senpai?"
Mori looked up and saw one of the twins. "Which one are you?" he asked warily.
The twin smiled. "Hikaru."
"What do you want?"
Hikaru sat down beside Mori. "To help you. You seem…"
"What?"
"Tired."
Mori laughed. "That's one way to put it."
"And another way?"
Mori shrugged. "I'm just…confused."
Hikaru nudged Mori. "By what?" The usually silent upperclassman was talking and Hikaru hoped to get as much out of him as he could. Especially for teasing purposes later. He had never seen the third year blush and he wanted to change that.
"Haruhi," Mori sighed. "Everything's changing."
"You love her," Hikaru stated.
"I-" Mori stopped. "I don't know."
The two sat in silence for a couple moments before Hikaru asked, "What about Honey-senpai?"
"What do you mean?"
Hikaru looked at Mori uncomfortably. "Well, it's just that you've always been with him…and if you do love Haruhi…" He trailed off.
"He understands." Mori ran a hand through his hair. "He always understands me perfectly."
Hikaru nodded and he stood. "I think that we've been out here long enough." He rubbed his arms. "They might think something's up."
Mori nodded and rose. "Let's go back in."
….~…
Haruhi watched as Mori entered the room. "Hey Takashi," she greeted, his name still unfamiliar on her tongue.
Mori smiled faintly. He gestured to Honey, "Has he been out long?"
Haruhi shook her head. "Not that long. About a half an hour, maybe less."
"I should carry him up to his bed."
"You don't have to…"
Mori smiled as Haruhi stroked Honey's hair. He asked, "What are you watching?"
Haruhi looked up at the TV. "I'm not sure…"
"Oh." Mori stood standing, unsure of what to say or do.
Haruhi remained silent for a couple of moments before patting the seat beside her and said, "Sit down, Takashi!"
Mori walked to the couch and sat down beside Haruhi. He looked at her and watched as she yawned and rubbed her eyes sleepily. "You should sleep. It's been a couple of tiring weeks."
Haruhi shrugged and asked, "What about you?"
"I don't know."
Haruhi leaned back into the couch, finding the cushions alarmingly comfortable. Her eyes started to drift closed when she asked, "How can you stand it?"
"Stand what?" Mori asked, looking at Haruhi.
Haruhi didn't make eye contact; she kept her eyes on the TV screen. "I'm barely making it through this and I don't have to constantly worry about Honey-senpai and me. How are you still going after so long?" Haruhi turned to Mori, her eyes filled with something Mori couldn't identify.
"You need me," Mori answered simply. "As long as you need me, I'll be there."
Haruhi's eyes widened and watered. She leaned back down on the couch and wiped her eyes. Taking that as the end of their conversation, Mori leaned back into the couch beside Haruhi. He turned his attention to the TV before he heard Haruhi say, "Thank you, Takashi."
He smiled and nodded and they sat in silence. Ten minutes later into the movie, Mori felt a head land on his shoulder. He looked down, expecting Haruhi to be asleep. However, her eyes were open, watching the screen intently.
Mori put an arm around her and she leaned in more, fitting into his hold. He resisted the urge to grin and watched the TV, no longer paying any attention to the show. All of his attention was on the girl in his arms.
Slowly, he felt himself drifting off to sleep. His eyes flickered shut and his last coherent thought was, I hope Haruhi gets to sleep.
…~….
Tamaki entered the TV room, hoping to talk to his daughter about moving out of the Haninozuka house and into his own personal resort. He was trying to think of a way to convince her when he saw the three housemates asleep on the couch. But all Tamaki could focus on was Mori's arm around Haruhi and their sleeping faces close together.
He went to scream for his daughter's innocence when a hand clamped over his mouth. The twins appeared at his sides and the one not holding his mouth closed said, "Just wait a second, Boss. Kyoya wants to explain something to you."
Forcefully and before Tamaki could react, the twins led Tamaki back into the kitchen where Kyoya was leaning against the counter frowning. One of the twins (Tamaki thought it was Hikaru) removed his hand from his mouth and Tamaki exploded. "He's taking my daughter's innocence! How dare he? I need to get her out of here right now and into-"
The twins gripped Tamaki's arms, and for the life of him, Tamaki couldn't overpower both twins. Kyoya approached Tamaki and hit him on the head. "You're an idiot."
The twin on his left said, "Mori-senpai loves Haruhi."
Tamaki stopped struggling. "What?"
"He's loved her for a while now," the other twin answered. "This was a great opportunity for him to make a move since you weren't around."
Kyoya rolled his eyes as Tamaki tried to process the new information. "Are you really that blind?" he asked Tamaki. He turned to the twins and they struggled not to shy away from his demonic glare. To them, he said, "You can let him go now."
The twins let go of his arms and Tamaki slouched to the ground, landing on his knees. "B-but," he stuttered. "My daughter. How could she..."
"She loves him too."
Tamaki frowned. "But what will this mean for our family?"
The twins shrugged. "We don't know. We're just happy they're finally starting to get together. It was getting painful to watch."
"So," Tamaki said as he tried to work this out in his head. "If my daughter marries one of the neighbors, then they won't be just neighbors anymore. Mori will be my son-in-law."
Kyoya rolled his eyes. "So, I can leave now? I have a lot of work to do."
"No!" Tamaki protested, rising to his feet. "I need you to check out Mori to see if he is good enough for my daughter."
The twins smirked and glanced at each other before turning to Tamaki. "We agree."
Kyoya pushed his glasses up on his nose, the glasses flashing to hide his amusement. "Very well. If that's what it takes. Though Tamaki?"
"Yeah."
"It would be wise of you to make sure that Haruhi does not catch on to your investigation." Kyoya smirked. "Though it would be amusing to see her reaction."
Tamaki gulped. "No thanks."
