Reese and Fusco both cautiously walked forward, guns drawn out with Adam right behind them, the poor boy looking around cautiously. The alarm was still blaring over their heads, out of the corner of his eye Reese can see Adam holding his hands over his ears on the occasion. As they neared the nurse station, Reese kept a frown on his face when he saw the splatters of blood leading to the inside of the station. Being even more cautious, Reese stepped forward, eyes narrowed.
"Shaw?" Reese asked out for his partner. Looking over at Fusco, the two of them nodded and walked further inside the station, guns pointed forward now. "Shaw!" He yelled out following the growing splatters of blood. Pausing, Reese couldn't help but just chuckle out as he looked at the scene in front of him.
Shaw was in front of them, her knuckles bloody, but not with her blood, no with the blood of the knocked out guard on the ground. She looked up at the two of them and shook her hand, getting some of the blood off.
"Guy thought he could do what he wanted during the fray of things, I'm sure he'll think twice now." Shaw nonchalantly said as she stepped over the groaning guard.
"Where is Finch?" Reese demanded standing up straighter.
However, before Shaw could answer, Fusco spoke up,
"Uh, we have another matter to deal with, Adam is gone."
Reese whipped his head around, sure enough, the small boy was no longer behind them.
"Ok then, Change of plans, Shaw, go and find Finch, make sure he's ok. Fusco, go and get Adam before he gets himself hurt or killed." Reese ordered, that caused Fusco to ask the obvious question,
"What are you going to do then?"
"I'm going to find Derek, odds are, he's the one doing this."
"DEVIL! OPEN THIS DOOR! YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM FATE!" Derek screamed at the top of his lungs as he pounded at the door. Finch didn't know just who to pay attention to, Joel who was a threat in itself, or Derek, who was an armed threat.
"So, you are the devil?" Joel asked, a slight laugh in his throat.
"I'm not. He's just...Just..." Finch tried to find the right word in his mind, it wasn't easy though, with Derek constantly putting all his weight on the other side of the door trying to get it to open just enough to get to the older man.
"Crazy? Like we all are?" Joel asked, eyebrow raised up. The African American then stood up from his spot on his bed and then put his hand above Finch's head, using his strength to keep the door from moving anymore. Getting the hint to move, Finch slowly walked underneath the man's arm, ducking of course, the older man then watched as Joel put his back to do the door and leaned against it, obviously not putting moth strength behind this as he seemed pretty relaxed. "Ok...Who are you?" Joel asked finally looking Finch up and down, he was differently more civilized than their little fallout before.
"I'm just a patient-" Finch tried to speak, but was cut off by Joel shaking his head from side to side.
"No you aren't, you aren't crazy, not like me or devil man on the other side of the door. No, nothing suggests you're crazy, you aren't loud, talking to yourself, and if anything you're patient. Who are you! You don't belong here!" Joel screamed at Finch, causing the older man to flinch at the sudden rise in Joel's voice. In the heat of his out of nowhere outburst, Joel took his back off of the door, giving Derek just long enough to practically slam the door open.
Both Finch and Joel to turn and look at Derek.
Derek looked ten times more menacing than he did a while back, his normal soft green eyes now darkened with rage, his left eye might even be twitching. In his right hand there was the scalpel, that Finch was now regretting not picking up, from earlier, what really made him look unstable were the bloodstains on his white clothes, once a deep red, now a sickening brown shade. It was enough to make Finch shudder. The man didn't move or talk for a good minute, his eyes kept shifting from Joel to Finch, seeming like he was trying to decide who to attack first.
Before Derek could go to attack anyone, Joel rushed forward, it didn't take much for the black man to, quite literally, pick Derek up from the behind in a bear hug and disarm him. Derek shrieked out and started to kick the air in defense, but, it did little to nothing to help the man.
"Go on, get out of here, get help, I can hold him for a while." Joel told Finch, whipping his head towards the open entrance.
"I...I..Oh.." Giving up on trying to reason with Derek, Finch limped out of the room, giving Joel a thankful look on his way out. Praying to god that when he gets back, Derek will still be alive.
Doing his best to hurry out the long hallway, Finch looked for maybe an assistance button on the wall, or anything that could bring attention to this area. If only he had his glasses, everything was so blurry that it was just way to hard for him to see anything. Still, that didn't stop him. He continued to look to the best of abilities. He only stopped when he saw someone down the hallway. He couldn't see this person too well, but, it looked like a teenager by the height and the fact that the clothes didn't seem to be in uniform, that was about all Finch could see from his distance.
Getting closer to the figure, Finch was starting to see that he wasn't wrong, it was in fact a teen boy. Once close enough, he breathing out.
"What are you doing back here? It's not safe for some one your age." Finch panted, he couldn't tell if the kid was looking at him are not, but he could practically feel the skeptical gaze radiating from the teens face.
"I'm fifteen, not ten-" The kid started, hands on his hips, Finch cut him off before he could even think about finishing.
"Age doesn't matter when there is a mad man with a weapon on the loose." Finch hissed, normally he'd be a bit more refrained than this, but he just wanted to get help before Derek hurt anyone else or himself. However, Finch didn't get his wish as he heard Joel scream out from his room. "Ok, so insane Derek is pretty much a tank, nice to know." He grumbled out in a rather out of character moment, then he grabbed the kid by his hoodie sleeve.
"Wait, Derek?" The kid asked, snatching his sleeve out of Finch's grasp, causing the man to turn and stare at the boy. Before Finch could retort the kid, Derek came into the hallway.
"DEVIL!"
"Derek..." The kid breathed out and started to walk towards the man, Finch reached out to grab the kid, but stopped when he realized that the fuzzy form that was Derek, seemed to relax just a bit.
"Who are you?" Finch asked in a whisper, the teen looked at him.
"Adam."
There was a silence, Adam now turning back to Derek, then the teen started to walk to his brother. His composure straight and high, he then spoke his voice loud and clear, showing no fear,
"Derek, you're alive...You know, I wanted to take you with me, but, by the time I had gotten everything set up with Ivan-"
"DON'T SPEAK THAT NAME! THE DEVIL'S NAME! Oh that horrible, horrible name, the name of the one who is not mine..." Derek moaned out bringing both of his hands to his face and started to drag his nails down his cheeks.
'The name of the one who isn't mine...Does that mean what I think it means?' Finch thought. Looking back over towards Adam, who was looking at Finch as well, then, Adam nodded.
"Derek, you're not dad, please, you know this. Dad was a monster..." Adam pleaded out as he looked over to his brother, he then started to get closer.
"Dad..." Derek breathed softly, keeping his gaze down staring at nothing than the floor below. Then, he slowly lifted his head up. Having trouble seeing just what exactly was happening, the only thing Finch could see Derek do was violently twitch his head from side to side, almost like he was fighting something off. "Monster...Devil...Dad...Stop! Stop!" Derek cried out, pounding his own head with his fist. By the sounds of it, Derek was hitting himself pretty hard.
"D-Derek stop...You're hurting yourself!" Adam cried out in concern, then, giving up on taking it slow, Adam ran forward as fast as he could and he hugged his brother. Finch could only watch as Derek stopped twitching and hitting himself. The man then cautiously wrapped his arms around Adam, carefully hugging his brother, like he was afraid that if he hugged Adam too tightly then he'd dissolve into nothingness. Then, just as it seemed Derek might of fully gotten control of the situation, the man suddenly moved his hands to tight grasp Adam's arms, earning a hiss of pain from the younger boy. He then forcefully pushed Adam back.
"No...I am a monster, I did so many horrible things...I...I can't, Adam, Dove, I just can't...I need to get rid of him before he comes back...I'm sorry."
"Derek-" Finch started, however, he was stopped when Derek turned around and ran, obviously not wanting to hear whatever Finch had to say. For a moment, neither Adam or Finch moved, they just watched as Derek ran down the hallway and towards the emergency exit which seemed to lead up towards the roof. Instantly fearful for Derek's safety, both Finch and Adam picked up the pace, following the young man up the stairs and onto the roof of the building.
Seeing Derek on the edge of the building, looking ready to take a deadly leap, Finch yelled out, halting Derek before he jumped.
"Stop! STOP! Please, Derek, just stop! Hear me out!" Finch yelled as loud as he could.
Adam breathed out slowly with relief the moment Derek paused and turned to look at the two of them.
"Why should I? I'm the host to a beast! Just like my father always said! Only I can quell the monster inside me, this is the only way..." Derek declared loudly, he then took a step back, no more than two steps away from his demise.
"Derek, Hear me out! You are not a monster! I can get you better help than this place, they will stop this." Finch assured softly, taking an awkward half step forward, hands out, just wanting Derek to calm down. It clearly wasn't working as Derek scowled and took another step back, all he had to do now was jump. Finch looked back at Adam who seemed to be in a state of shock and fear, not knowing what to do. Finch could only pull out one final card.
"Do you want Adam, your brother, to see you jump to your death? He wanted to see you again, he loves you...Don't do this to him...Please." Finch begged, bringing his hand out for Derek to take. "Step away, please." Finch breathed, urging the younger man to take his hand.
For a long heart staking minute, Derek didn't move. He stood there, emotionless. After that minute, he looked down at the ground stories below him, maybe wondering if it was worth it. Finch could only take another half step closer to Derek, silently pleading for this man to just take the logical route and step away from the ledge.
Finally, Derek shook his head.
"The monster will come back...I can't risk hurting or killing another human...I'm sorry.." Spreading his arms out, Derek shut his eyes and then slowly leaned back before he started to fall off.
"NO!" Finch screamed out, he then reached out to grab any part of Derek he could, just to pull the man back, only, he wasn't fast enough. He only grabbed air. He could watch in horror as Derek fell through the sky and hit the ground in seconds flat, the most sickening sound followed suit.
"DEREK!" Adam shrieked out, reminding Finch that the boy was still here. Adam ran towards the edge obviously wanting to see, Finch reacted much more quickly, grabbed Adam and hugging the boy tightly shielding him from the horrible site below.
"No...Don't look..." Finch said as Adam started to sob loudly.
He then heard the door open, he looked and saw the rest of his team, and Finch could only say one thing to them as well as to Adam,
"I'm sorry...I am so sorry..."
