3DPhantom I try to write it funny, but I'll cross over to the sad spiel and I'll be like, wait, this is supposed to be funny!
justTHATguyOVERthere I'm sorry you didn't like it, I kind of added my own twist to it. I don't really want anyone finding out his identity just yet. Sorry.
Guest Lol, funny idea.
steelec1 I can't really tell you yet, sorry
Chapter 10
Bruce Thomas Wayne
I storm out of the med bay.
Why was Dick being so unreasonable? He knows my anger gets best of me. Why is he taking it so personally all of a sudden?
Maybe I was being unreasonable. But, it might…
No, you can't think of that. It might not even be true. Then again, if it's not true, then why are you distancing yourself?
I sigh and open the door to Dick's room. I still needed to review everything.
From the new information I was given from Richard, I can piece it together with the crime scene. I swing open his bathroom door and close it behind me.
"Camera; visual aid." I say.
"Confirmed. Visual aid established."
A blue light covers the bathroom. It highlights key evidence and identifies it. I slide my hand down and a keyboard appears.
"Computer; crucial details to add."
"confirmed. Adding key details as given."
"Victim was brushing teeth when he saw someone in the mirror."
"Confirmed. Adding to scene."
The computer adds Dick's shadow in front of the mirror with his toothbrush. An unknown shadow is behind him.
"Victim saw the intruder through the mirror. Victim proceeded to turn around and the assailant wasn't behind him."
"Confirmed. Adding to scene."
"Victim turns back and sees the offender perched on the sink. Offender then punches the victim in the face."
"Confirmed. Adding to scene."
"Victim fell to the ground and assailant sat on victim. Victim tried to fight and punched offender in the stomach. The assailant had nothing on him apparently, so he grabbed the razor off of the sink and started cutting the victim."
"Confirmed. Adding to scene."
The door opens behind me.
"What do you need Alfred?" I ask.
I was still short with him. I know he was right, in a sense. However, he doesn't know what I know. He would probably be as cautious as me. Maybe not.
"I do not know how you can stand to see this." Alfred says, with a pained voice.
I sigh.
''I have to. I need to know who did this to Dick."
"Speaking of the young master."
Oh no.
"You were really rude, sir." He says.
"I told him it was my temper. It's his fault he didn't believe me." I retort.
"Maybe because it wasn't that believable."
"Alfred…"
"Leaving sir." He said. "But, if I may."
"You'll say it anyway."
"If you don't get your act together, you are going to lose him."
And, on that note, Alfred leaves.
I need to continue looking at this.
There is no window in Dick's bathroom, so the assailant must have come in via the balcony. I rewind the crime scene and look for flaws on the offender's part. I go through it about ten times. Nothing; not even a thimble.
How could Dick not see the person come in? Even under stress, his observation skills aren't this bad.
I crouch on the ground and look up at the mirror. From this angle, Dick should have seen me. Even if the offender was crouching.
I fast forward in the scene to where Dick was being sat on. We specifically trained for two weeks on every way to power over someone bigger than you. This should have been child's play for Dick.
I sigh.
"Computer; turn off."
"Confirmed. Shutting down."
I walk out of the bathroom and stop.
I take in Dick's room. He's had this room since he came to Wayne Manor. Giving a half-smile, I remember the first time he saw this room.
He was so small, he was below my torso. Dick was pretty small for a nine-year old. He was still in his trapeze outfit; he wouldn't take it off. He said his mother made it especially for the final show on that tour. It was the first thing he said to me.
I remember how he peeked around me to see into his room. I showed him his closet and the balcony, then Alfred came in. Alfred was smiling ear to ear, happy about having someone young and so full of energy back in the manor.
Dick ate one of Alfred's famous cookies, then took the whole plate, saying "I think I like you." To which Alfred smiled and patted the boy on the head.
Oh, and the time…
No. You can't think of that. He isn't even your son. You can't do that to yourself.
I shake my head, clearing my thoughts, then head down to the batcave.
I pass the med bay on the way there. Artemis and Superboy were guarding the door while Wally sat slumped against the wall.
"How's Dick?" I ask Wally, wondering why he was out here.
"He was fine," Wally says, "Until you came to talk to him." He finishes, looking up at me.
I quickly look to Superboy.
"Anything out of the ordinary?"
"Nothing so far."
"Thank you."
I continue to the batcave.
Richard was upset enough that he wouldn't even talk to Wally. Maybe I should go and apologize… Maybe later.
I play the keys on the piano and go down the elevator.
I remember when Dick first found out I was Batman. He was a pretty smart kid. We let him have the run of the place. That's when he started wondering where I disappeared to every night. He followed me for a few weeks. I didn't even realize what he was doing. It was one of the things that impressed me enough to let him become Robin.
There you go again, Bruce. I scowl.
I do my annual check of all of the cameras and check to make sure everything is working, then I take another look at the cage. I get the magnifying glass and scan over the bars, seeing if I missed anything.
I throw the magnifying glass on the floor in frustration. I needed to find out who let out Cheshire. I need to make sure they don't give away our identities. They surely know them by now, if they got her out.
I throw myself into the chair in front of the bat-computer.
"Master Bruce?" the intercom sounds.
I push down the intercom button.
"Yes, Alfred."
"Miss Kyle is here to see you."
"Tell her I'm busy."
"Well, nice to see you too." Selina says.
"Selina…"
"Whatever. Just thought I'd check on you like a nice little kitty, but I guess not."
"Wait… I'm coming."
"Good dog."
I pull my hair and run up to the elevator. I go to the foyer and meet Alfred.
"Where is Selina?"
"I let her wonder around while you got your, just quoting sir, 'Bigheaded ego up the stairs, if he can lift it up.'"
I roll my eyes.
"Guess I need to find her. "
"Indeed."
I walk around the living rooms, the kitchen, my bedroom, the piano rooms.
"Well aren't you the cutest thing since me." I hear Selina say.
I walk down to the med bay. Of course she would be here.
"Selina…" I warn.
She rolls her eyes and turns to me. Her hair was in waves and she was one of her little black dresses. What was she thinking?
"Last time I looked, Bruce, I wasn't on a leash."
"I never said you were."
"Then act like it."
Wally covers his mouth as he tries to keep laughing. I knew he knew I was Batman, I knew the entire time. With him pulling jokes and wise cracks. He wasn't the best for keeping his knowledge a secret. The only reason I haven't killed Dick is because I think he should have someone to talk to.
Selina turns back to Artemis.
"And you, now that you know I'm not an intruder, will you please let me through?" Selina asks.
Artemis and Superboy step aside. Selina struts into the room and I see Richard's eyes light up.
"Selina!" Dick exclaims and sits up.
Selina chuckles.
"Now what have you done to yourself this time?" she asks, jokingly.
Dick's eyes downcast and he blushes slightly.
"I… kind of… got attacked again." He confesses, looking away.
Selina's face scrunches up. She spins around and walks up to me.
"What the hell, Bruce? I thought you got superheroes or something to protect him?"
"Selina." I say, trying to signal her that so-called superheroes were right behind us.
"No," she says, stopping me. "Don't 'Selina' me."
Selina steps up closer to me and tiptoes so she's to my face.
"He," she points to Richard. "Could have been killed and all you have to say is 'Selina'?"
"But…"
"Nope." She says, then turns to Dick.
"Hey, Bruce?" Wally says. "Need some ice for that burn?"
I grit my teeth. I was about to snap, it was official. My face was beet red. I was being humiliated in my own house!
Selina turns to Alfred.
"Alfred, darling, I hate to spring this on you last minute, but please prepare me a room." Selina says then turns to me and looks me square in the eye. "I'm staying and protecting him myself."
"You won't be staying with Master Bruce?" Alfred asks, a little jokingly.
"No."
"Very good, Mistress Kyle."
And with that, Selina kisses Dick's forehead and follows after Alfred.
You have GOT to be kidding me. Why is everyone so against me?
I go to leave the room as Dick says, "At least someone here besides Alfred cares about me."
I take a deep breath and close the door behind me just long enough for me to hear laughs coming from the med bay.
This can't be right, I think as I review the simulated recording. I had been looking for something to make sense of Dick not fighting back as well as he should have.
Maybe the intruder injected Dick with something to make him weak.
No, that couldn't be it either. Dick is immune to most knockouts and injections. Only high class stuff could affect him, and judging by how this person supposedly dressed and how unprepared he was, I doubt he had anything like that.
This wasn't making any sense.
Besides, if the guy was wearing bulky clothing and he wasn't lanky, then how did he perch on Dick's sink so quickly?
"What happened?" someone behind me says.
I turn off the computer and turn around to see Selina. She had changed out of her dress into pajamas. Well, what I guessed were pajamas. They were only short shorts and a camisole.
"Some intruder got in while Dick was brushing his teeth."
"Find any clues?"
"Not really; most of it isn't making sense."
"How so?"
I turn the computer back on and rewind everything.
"Well, for starters," I say, pointing to the hologram of Dick. "Dick would have been able to have seen the intruder come in due to all the angles this mirror can see."
I point to a corner in the room.
"Stand there." I say.
She looks behind and steps back to where I pointed. I crouch on my knees to about Dick's height and look in the mirror.
"Even from the most remote corner of the room, I was able to see you in the mirror."
"Ok," Selina says, nodding her head. "Well that is definitely weird, but that can't be the only thing that seemed wrong."
I shake my head.
"No, it wasn't."
I continue rolling the video.
"Here," I point to Dick turning around upon seeing the intruder. "Dick turns around because he saw the person. The person disappears and magically perches on his sink."
"And?"
"And, the way Dick described this person was that he was in bulky clothes and was bigger built."
"There was no way he could be that quick."
I turn around and flash her a smile.
"Exactly." I confirm. "See, I know you could do that with your lighter build and… tighter fitting clothes, but someone like me couldn't."
"See, this is why I like you without the cowl on, your cheeks flush so easily and you actually smile."
"Focus."
"Just saying."
"Then there is the fact that the guy sat on Dick. Richard should have easily taken this guy down with how unprepared he was."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, Dick said the guy had nothing on him. He resorted to using something out of this bathroom."
"What could he have used in a thirteen-year olds bathroom that could have hurt him so bad?"
I point to the offending object on the ground. Selina's eyes widen and she brings a hand to her mouth.
"Oh, gosh."
A few seconds pass in silence.
"How did you know Dick was injured when you came?" I ask.
She flashes me a smile.
"Alfred actually sent for me. Told me to be prepared to stay, that's why I had all of my stuff. He said something about 'knocking some sense into you, literally, if need be." She tells me.
I groan.
Selina laughs.
"Are you still mad at me?" I ask her.
"Terribly." She says, then steps up right in front of me. She goes to kiss me then stops.
"Wait!" she exclaims.
"What?" I ask, not as enthusiastically.
"What if the guy had like super speed?" Selina offers.
I shake my head.
"Impossible. Someone of this guy's physic wouldn't work with that."
"Oh." She says.
"What does all of this mean?" Selina asks.
I sigh, sit down on Dick's toilet, and grab a fistful of my hair.
"That either this guy is somehow a mastermind," I pause, then look to the ground. "Or Dick isn't telling us the full story."
AN: Ok, so the most important reason for not updating was because I had to wipe my laptop, then I couldn't get word to install. Then finals came, then summer laziness came, then I started a watching a new series, then Arkham Knight came out, then I had to download microsoft for a whole day. Uhhh... well at least it's done now, right?
Review please!
