Chapter 10
Korra was unconscious, leaning her head on Naga's neck, not even holding on. Mako ran to her, catching her as she fell off the Polar bear dog that was unable to catch her owner. He held her in his arms, using one of his hands; he took off his coat, revealing his skin to the blistering cold. He wrapped it around her, making sure to shield her face from the wind especially. He was worried. Her face was red, chapped, and frostbitten, her lips turning a sickening shade of blue. He carried her to Naga, bending heat into his jacket, trying to warm the girl. He shivered, but didn't care about the cold. Mako lifted her and but her on Naga, hopping on behind her to shield her from the icy snow.
"Take us home, Naga," Mako ordered the pet, hugging Korra to his chest in an attempt to warm her freezing body. He could feel her deathly slow heartbeat, and her shallow breaths. He bent more heat to the jacket and held her close, determined to keep her alive.
"What about the baby?" he wondered aloud, feeling more worried with every thought. He could lose everything if they didn't hurry. Naga seemed to read his mind, running faster into the night, headed towards the village. Mako ducked his face, and made sure Korra's was covered as the wind whipped around them, slowly freezing them.
An hour passed, Mako could feel himself losing Consciousness. Korra was finally breathing at a normal pace and had regained some color. Mako let himself fall asleep, his last thought being 'Korra'.
~Senna Tonroq~
"It's almost nightfall, where are they?" Tonroq mumbled to himself. Senna hadn't moved from the window since the storm rolled in. She worriedly looked out the window, looking for her daughter to come home safe, hoping the worse hadn't happened. Unconscious tears of fear fell down her cheeks, a manifestation of the worry she'd been holding for Korra for too long. She broke into quiet sobs.
Tonroq walked toward his wife, holding her close, attempting to comfort her.
"She'll come home, you need to sleep. It's almost midnight. I promise when you wake up Korra will be back here safe with us. I promise." He picked her up, carrying her to their bed, soothing her heartbreaking sobs of hopelessness. He laid her down, sliding behind her and holding her until she cried herself to exhaustion and let sleep over take her.
Once she was asleep, Tonroq stood. "I'll bring her home, honey." He left eh room, throwing on his blizzard gear, before walking outside into the bustling snow. He ran out to the edge of the village. "Korra! Mako!" he called, venturing further into the wilderness.
~Mako and Korra~
Mako woke up, shivering. He looked around, Korra was still there, breathing, but freezing. He warmed his hands with fire, then proceeded to try and warm Korra up as well.
"Naga, we need to hurry," he commanded, knowing Korra wouldn't have much longer left if they stayed out in the cold. Naga ran faster, despite the exhaustion. Twenty minutes passed when Mako heard something faint. "Naga, stop," the boy told the polar bear dog, effectively bringing the running to a stop. He listened again.
"Mako! Korra! Naga!" the sound called.
"Naga, did you hear that? Follow that voice"
Naga turned swiftly to her left, as started sprinting. With every call, the voice grew louder, and more familiar, to Mako's ears. He identified the voice as Tonroq and smiled. They were going to be okay. Korra, himself, Naga they were going to be fine. Mako's thouhts stopped short. 'what if nothing is fine, what about the baby?' he thought to himself. He remembered what Korra had said to her father, she was excited about this baby. Mako looked down at Korra, sadness, worry, and fear, distorting his features. He took the girl in his arms, hugging her close and shielding her exposed face from the wind. "It'll be okay. It has to be."
~Tonroq~
"Korra," Tonroq called again, "Mako! Naga!"
He looked around, starting to lose hope. Memories from this morning flooded his mind: Korra's hopeless look, Mako's fear filled eyes, Senna's look of disapproval. He had to bring them back. "Korra! Naga!" He called once more. He listened carefully. A howl rang in his ear drums. He started running toward it. "Naga!" He saw the Polar Bear Dog
