chapter eleven

As Lavender and I stroll through the giant wooden doors, two women turn their heads towards us in greeting. As they walk towards us, Lavender whispers,

"My sister, Rosy, has replaced my mother as our florist since our mother died. Be careful not to mention her, because Rosy gets extremely jealous of our mother's talent."

When they reach us, I'm surprised that the triplets are all equal in beauty. The one that is introduced as Daisy, the nurse, has golden curls in a pixie cut and and big amber eyes. Her skin is snow pale, nearly the color of a daisies petal. And yet, she does not look sickly. The other sister, Rosy, the jealous florist, has striking bright red hair, pulled back into a hairstyle which looks exactly like a rose, and has pearls all through it. Her eyes are a vivid green, and her skin is pale just like all her sisters, which is probably the only resemblance all the sisters had besides their height, and a golden locket which is around each of their throats, and has their designated flower carved into the middle.

"Hello, Kai. Morning Lavender, I cant believe you got off so early. You've only been watching him an hour. I've had hardly any sleep from watching him for days, and then you get it easy." Daisy sulks, giving me a quick look of annoyance.

"Sorry." I mutter, but I'm hardly heard over the chatter of the three sisters.

"Now, now, Daisy, what's gotten into you. You're not usually this grumpy. Don't blame him, he's had it hard for months." Lavender replies.

"I don't mean to be grumpy, but you try not sleeping for days, and see if you're in the usual cheerful mood."

"Its nice to finally meet you Kai. You seem much nicer than I expected." says Rosy, with a queer look in her eye I cant quite make out.

"Uh, thank you. I try my best."

All the sisters laugh, as if its the funniest thing in the world.

"Cute and funny, your girlfriends a lucky girl." That comment was from Rosy. I still didn't get her attitude towards me.

"I don't have a girlfriend. Um, sorry to change the subject, but do you happen to know where Mheia is?"

It's Daisy's turn to talk.

"Yes, actually, she's-"

"Kai!"

I turn to the sound of my name, only to see Mheia running towards me. Suddenly she's in my arms, giving me the biggest bear hug in the century. Rosy gives her a look of annoyance as if it was her who was interrupted, not Daisy.

"Mheia! I've been wanting to see you since I woke up. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Despite a little memory loss, and major dehydration, there's not a scratch on me."

"Memory loss?"

"Yeah, nothing big, just my last moments, It's all black there."

"Oh." That mean't she didn't remember what we said. I confessed for nothing. "How are you liking Red Bay?"

Mheia squeals. "It's been wonderful. It's so beautiful here, and so unlike Pangaea. They have flowers, real flowers! And animals, and all sorts of clothing..."

For the first time, I pay attention to what she's wearing. It's a pretty little sundress, covered in sunflowers, something that she would have been hardly allowed to wear at Pangaea. It's so colourful, that it brings our her beautiful brown eyes, and her braided hair. She continues to talk.

"I think the Rainlin is so beautiful, but the water brought back painful memories. I chose the Flora to live in. You'll never believe who my roomies are."

Just as Mheia said that, two people walking towards us caught my eye. One was a woman, one was a man. As they got closer, I realized that I knew them.

"Ty and Ema! What are they doing here?"

Their story was amazing. They managed to get away when we did, but got here within a week while floating on a home made raft.

Mheia managed to cut in once their excited high pitched voices died down.

"I'm living with Ema and Lavender. Much better roommates than my parents." It's only supposed to be a joke but the pain is clear in Mheia's eyes. I'm not the only person in this room who lost their parents.

"I still don't know where I wanna live, but I think I've got a pretty good idea." I say, trying to take the conversation back to a happy mood.

"Well, you better hurry up slowpoke, you've got until tonight, unless you want to stay in that dreadful hospital room again."
