I don't own BBC Sherlock, they are the creative works of Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and of course the wonderful Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Well, I have finally got back into the swing of things, don't know how long that will last. I've started plotting for Camp NaNo already, and I have Eight plots that I could write. One James Bond, One James Bond/Sherlock, Four Sherlock, and Two Star Trek 2009 fics. Way too many I know, but I love them all.
Overcoming Betrayal
Chapter Eleven
Sherlock walked into the lab at St Bart's and smiled a bit when he saw Mike was sitting at his desk, marking. He went over to the cupboards and began to take out the things that he needed. Mike had said that he could always use the lab there, and he was glad of that. Mike had become such a large part of his life, he was there when Sherlock had been evicted, and he was a free babysitter and as far as Mike was concerned a good one. Though that was mainly when he wasn't busy with a case.
"So, found somewhere to live yet?" Mike asked him as he marked one more paper and then stood up, stretching a little.
Sherlock nodded "Yes," he answered as he began to set up what he needed, "I have, Mrs Hudson, finally has everything sorted out with Baker Street and she is letting me have it at a reduced price."
"Hmmm, Baker Street, expensive isn't it?" Mike asked him.
Sherlock nodded, "Yes, and Mycroft has once again decided to tighten the purse strings on my account, so I am going to need a flatmate soon," he sighed in annoyance.
"Why has he done that?" he puzzled, he couldn't think of a reason why Mycroft might have restricted Sherlock's account again. He hadn't done it since before Mike had known them from what he had learned about the two brothers.
"My last place, the reason I was evicted was because of the experiments, and with access to my own funds, I could buy what I needed to carry them out," he said, a little smirk on his face.
"Ah, so now that he has control again, you can't do that and you might last more than four months in a place," Mike chuckled and shook his head.
"Might," Sherlock gave a small chuckle, "you heading out for your lunch?" he then asked.
"Not yet, I'm just getting up and a little exercise," he told him, "gaining a little too much weight these days."
"You have had three children," Sherlock chuckled and shook his head.
"Hmmm," he nodded a little as he grabbed some of papers he was marking and went over the bench and sat down near Sherlock, "So what are you doing at the moment?" he asked him.
"Testing out a theory, what the outcome is will determine who should be arrested," he said as he looked to Mike with a little smirk on his face.
The man shook his head, "Well, I hope you can figure it all out," he chuckled a little as he began to read through one of the papers, "God some of these are right brats, I don't think I was ever like this," he said as he read through.
"How bad?" Sherlock couldn't help but ask as he began to mix two chemicals and the substance he had found.
"They haven't given me one thing that is right, but then this one hasn't really paid any attention to any of the lectures so far, if this carries on I'm going to have to do something," he sighed and shook his head as he made a couple of comments in the margins.
"Like you?" he asked, a sly little grin on his face.
"God no, if I was doing the same things as this one I would have already been kicked out," he said with a shake of his head, "I worked hard, and a lot of them do," he sighed as he put that one aside and began another, "This one is a lot better, actually used the words right and made sense," he chuckled as he wrote down a few comments on what he was marking.
Sherlock shook his head, "I don't know how you can do it," he told him truthfully, "it would annoy me very quickly if people weren't listening to what I was telling them," he huffed a little at the thought.
Mike laughed at him, "Good thing you never thought to go into teaching. Though I have to say you are good with my three, you teach them quite well," he said as he pointed out how Sherlock was able to deal with Mike three children.
"They are children, small children at that and they are more curious about the world around them and wanting to know things. I don't mind that, but when they get older they will not wish to listen," he said as he smirked over to him, "And you have all that to look forward to," he finished.
"Yeah," he smiled softly as he thought of his kids, "you know I think I will go for lunch now, do you want me to bring something back for you?"
"No, you know I don't eat when I am working Mike," he said with a shake of his head as he slowly let the drops of acid into the mixture.
"All right, but you should eat more," he admonished him, though he had done so a number of times in the past. Sherlock refused to listen to him.
"I'll think about it," he huffed and rolled his eyes.
"You wont," Mike laughed, "Right, have you any idea on who you want as a flatmate, I have no doubt that you know a few that would be able to help with the rent and that," he asked him, a little curious.
Sherlock shook his head, "no, I don't think there is anyone," he sighed a little, "come on Mike, I need someone with a strong stomach and able to put up with my more eccentric behaviours."
Mike shook his head, "never know, one of your friends…" he broke off as he saw the look and rolled his eyes, "fine, acquaintances should be all right with you as a flatmate," he told him.
"Doubt it, the last flatmate ran off when he found the foot in the fridge. It was why I thought it would be nice to have my own place, and then Mycroft decided I needed to be cut off again," he huffed and looked to the mixing chemicals, that was slowly changing colour, "Be honest Mike, who would want me as a flatmate, I know I am inconsiderate at times, and I have habits that would drive a saint to homicide," he chuckled a little at the thought.
Mike laughed and shook his head, "you might be right at that, but I'll keep an ear out for someone that might be able to help you all right."
Sherlock nodded his head and said softly, "I doubt you will be able to find anyone Mike, and if you do, I shall baby-sit for you without complaint for two nights," he looked to him.
Mike grinned, "Well, I like that challenge, I'll do what I can, and I will make sure that they wont be the type to just leave."
Sherlock nodded his head, "If you say so," he said as he went back to his work.
Mike sighed and shook his head, "I'll bring you something back, you need to eat, I know it's been a couple of days," he told him as he went out of the door to the staff room to get his things.
Sherlock looked up about to protest but Mike was already gone. He gave a sigh and went back to his work. He had no idea that chain of events that were to come, a chain that he had started by mentioning to one Mike Stamford that he needed a flatmate.
