Chapter 11: Prom

Axel opened the gym door before Angel walked inside. The gym was covered in decorations, with flashing lights and loud music.

"Angel! Axel!" The two saw their three friends standing nearby. Luciano wore a tuxedo with a green tie to match Chase's short green and yellow prom dress. Kiara wore a long pink dress with sparkles going down the sides.

The trio came over to them. "Good to see you guys."

"Glad we could come…" Axel looked down at Angel with sad eyes. "Hey, would you like some punch?" She nodded slowly.

"I'll get some for you girls as well," Luciano smiled.

The two boys came back with the five cups. Chase held hers up. "Guys, I propose a toast to Axel: for his friendship, help, and just for being here with us."

"Here!" The kids held up their glasses and clinked them together.

Axel smiled. "Thank you, guys. I've never been so happy before coming here. All of you have opened my eyes and heart to more than I'd ever dreamed of. I'll miss each and every one of you…"

The group hugged, tears welling in all their eyes. "Now," Kiara wiped her eyes, "let's enjoy this night!"

Axel's heart thudded in his chest as his chosen time approached. Ten minutes till… he looked around for Angel but didn't see her. "Chase, have you seen Angel?"

"Um," the female football player bit her lip, "I think I saw her going towards the roof access stairs."

"Thanks!" He had to hurry. The DJ was cued to play the song in less than 10 minutes. Running up the stairs, he spotted her; the girl sat on the edge of the roof. "Angel…"

She turned suddenly, "Oh, Axel…" she wiped tears from her eyes. "Sorry, I just…"

"It's ok." He took her hands and helped her stand. "I know this is hard for you."

"I don't want you to leave! It's too painful to think that tomorrow I will wake up and you'll be half-way across the universe from me." Her tears began anew.

Axel hugged her. "I don't want to cause you pain…"

"Then don't go! Leave the Decepticons and stay here!"

Axel was silent for a moment before stepping back. "Angel, I… I have something for you." He pulled out a box. "Turn around."

She did so, and Axel draped a necklace around her neck. "What?" She looked at it. "It's half of the Autobot insignia…"

"Yes," Axel pulled out a necklace from under his shirt. "I have the other half." His was half of the Decepticon insignia. He put the two together and they fit perfectly. "It's an early birthday present."

"Thank you…"

Axel froze as he heard a song start from inside the gym. "Excuse me, but I believe this is our song." He smiled lovingly and began singing along with the song as his hands intertwined with Angel's and the two began to waltz across the rooftop.

"Take my hand, I'll take the lead

And every turn will be safe with me,

Don't be afraid, afraid to fall,

You know I'll catch you through it all,

You can't keep us apart,

Cause my heart is wherever you are…

It's like catching lightning,

The chances of finding,

Someone like you.

It's one in a million,

The chances of feeling,

The way we do.

And with every step together,

We just keep on getting better.

So can I have this dance?

Can I have this dance?"

The two glided across the roof as the song continued, both singing along with the words. The song ended with the two in each other's arms.

"Angel… I've made my choice." Axel pulled back, but still kept his arms around Angel's waist. "I don't want to live without you with me. I made a vow to never abandon the Decepticons for the Autobot cause and I won't. I've chosen to leave the Decepticons for no other reason than to be with you…"

Angel looked at him in shock. "What!?"

"I'm stay here, on earth, with you. I may have to hide until Lor… Megatron leaves once again, but I will be with you. That is my choice… you are my choice…"

"Axel…"

His fingers went under her chin. "Angel… I love you."

"I love you too…" Everything around them faded as their lips met and they melted into each other's arms. Nothing seemed to matter now: not the war, not the Autobots, not the Decepticons. The only thing that mattered was them.

Megatron's optics flashed with anger as he saw Axel and Angel kissing. After hearing the boy denounce the Decepticons for her, his temper flared.

Eclipse was inwardly happy for Axel, however, now that Megatron knew, both humans were in grave danger.

"Starscream!" Megatron roared angrily. "Take a squad of Vehicons down to earth. Do not let those two reach any Autobots."

The seeker grinned evilly; his plan against Axel worked! "Yes, my lord. Shall I bring Axel back here for punishment?"

"No… leave him to the Autobots. Bring me Angel…"

When the two broke apart, it felt like a dream. "Let's leave…" Angel nuzzled Axel's shoulder. "Right now. The Autobots or the US army can hide you for a time and we can be together…"

"Yes…"

"Or, we can both leave." Angel looked him in the eyes. "We can run away together. No more war, no more fighting. We can just leave."

Axel's smile grew wider. "Let's do that…"

They shared one more kiss before going back downstairs.

Chase, Luciano, and Kiara had already left for a movie marathon at the Autobot base. So, the two left, arm- in- arm, to meet Remix. This time, however, they would both get into the car. The plan was to go back to the Autobot base, get Angel's stuff, and leave together.

Leave everything behind them and start a brand new future together.

Remix wasn't in the same spot she had dropped them off in; she had parked a few blocks away to give the two as much time together as they needed.

As they walked, Axel began to be aware of dark colored cars on each side, blocking off streets and side-streets. "Angel, don't be alarmed; just walk as if nothing's wrong."

"What?"

"There are Decepticon troopers trying to cut off our escape routes on each side and a few are pulling in behind us, cutting us off from that way."

The girl looked at him. "Do you want me to call a groundbridge?"

"No," Axel shook his head. "They're too close to us. They'd just come in after us into your base. We'll just have to keep walking until we find an abandoned building we can go inside and call a groundbridge from in there. There is a warehouse up ahead we can do that is."

Their pace never changed as they approached an old building and went swiftly inside. Angel reached into her purse for her external communicator but froze and the warehouse lights turned on, suddenly. "What?"

"Ha! Ha! There's no escape, humans!" Over the two, stood Starscream.

Axel leapt in front of Angel. "Call for that bri…" The seeker smacked the boy across the room with the back of his servo.

"AXEL!" The girl broke off running towards him, but Starscream's servo wrapped around her, making her drop the communicator as the Decepticon second-in-command called his own base for a groundbridge.

He was answered with a swirling green portal. "I wonder how merciful the Autobots will be to one who got their beloved pet captured." The mech sneered as Axel attempted to stand, clutching his side. "Goodbye, traitor…" Starscream vanished, with Angel in his grip.

"ANGEL!" Axel ran forward but faltered, falling on his face. His vision blurred and went black, with a single thought in his mind… 'What have I done?'
