Where Malli went was no holding cell or police station whatsoever. She went to a hotel sort of place, so that man who put cuffs on her said. She had learned that the man who had arrested her was working with the police on the Kira case and that his name was Matsuda. He had not given her his last name, which she did not care for. She had also learned that Matsuda wasn't supposed to give her information such as 'working on the Kira case', as it was confidential, according to 'L', who ever that was, letting her know that there was another man in the car with them. This second male sounded a little older, like an old man. SHe could not see their faces as she was blindfolded right before the car sped off.
I can't believe that I was arrested for something that I didn't even do. Malli thought as she was being lead into some sort of building. The smell of a fresh scent of air freshener filled the room, making it smell of a newly built building. She was then lead to an elevator, she assumed as the small beep sound was filled her ears, as well as the sound of elevator door closing. Malli was all too familiar with that sound as she had been to Lindzie's apartment so many times, the sound had been accustom to her. Well, that was before her best friend had passed on to the other world.
She was then being lead out of the elevator, as she felt a slight push on her shoulders, leading her down a hallway, guiding her to one of the hotel rooms, she assumed. The sound of hers, and two more footsteps were heard in the hallway. Malli's hearing has gotten stronger since she was blindfolded. Whenever she can't see, her sense of touch and hearing has tripled its normal capacity had been. Her mother had once called her a little bat in a dark cave. The thought of her mother sent a tear down Malli's face. She wished she could wipe it before anyone saw. She didn't want to appear weak. But unfortunately for Malli, her hands were cuffed behind her back.
The sound of a door opening filled her ears, pulling her from her thoughts as she was pushed into a room and new hands had grabbed her before she fell onto her face and lead her deeper into the room. She heard the door shut and locked before the new set of hands pulled the blindfold off of her face, allowing her to see. The light of the room was a bit to bright for a minute or two, but Malli's eyes adjusted quickly enough, showing the first face for her to see was unfamiliar. He had black hair and dull black eyes, which underneath were dark bags, indicating her hadn't had enough sleep. He had a bit of a slouch, but nothing too unattractive. Malli thought he was cute, like a panda. This new man reminded her of a panda.
"Matsuda, can you please uncuff her? She doesn't look too comfortable." he said in a emotionless tone of voice. Malli heard the click of the lock and felt the cuffs being freed from her wrists. She pulled her right wrist to her chest, lightly massaging it with her left. She then repeated the same procedure to her left hand.
"Now miss, will you please tell me your name?" he asked, looking at her.
Malli did not answer. She did not want the man to hear her voice. She did not want anyone to hear her voice. She only wanted her one and only love to hear her voice. Only Daichi. Malli didn't make hand motion for a pen and paper to inform the new man of her name. She decided that she did not want to tell him her name. She wanted to remain unknown to him. Unfortunately for her, that was not the case.
"That's alright. You don't have to tell me. I already know. Your name is Kohana Kawashima." He started, walking back and forth, left to right in Malli's eyes. "I know everything about you. You grew up in Canada and learned Japanese as a second language, as well as French as it was mandatory in grades four - six. You moved to Japan to live with your grandmother when your parents were brutally murdered. Your friend, Lindzie, lived in Canada until she was seventeen, when she moved here with her father as he was transferred her for a job. Lindzie had died about a week ago from a heart attack. Correct me if I'm wrong."
Malli made a hand motion for a pen and paper. The man complied and she wrote 'Lindzie wasn't just my friend, she was my best friend.' And turned the paper so he could see.
"She was your best friend, my apologies." he said, his voice still emotionless, making it hard to tell if he was sorry or if he was just saying that to make Malli feel better. "Could you please tell me why Lindzie had called you 'Malli' when you two texted?"
Malli found it quite disturbing, rude, and an invasion of privacy at the thought of someone reading through her text messages. She wanted to go home and hide in under the covors of her bed and cry, but she hid her emotions in both her eyes, face and body, making it hard for the man to tell what she was thinking or feeling. Malli flipped the paper over and wrote, 'No one calls me Kohana anymore. Not since I was little. Everyone calls me Malli. That has been my name ever since kindergarten.' She flipped the paper over once again, showing the unknown man in front her.
"Would you prefer it if I called you 'Malli" instead of Kohana." he said, not a hint of an asking tone in his voice. His words are what made it a question, but his tone did not.
Malli nodded in answer to his question.
"Do you know why you're here, Malli." he 'asked'. Malli shook her head 'no', answering his 'question'. She flipped the paper over, once again, and wrote, 'Not a clue except for what Mr. Matsuda told me.' She flipped it over and showed the man.
"How did you know Matsuda's name." he 'asked' and she wrote an answer.
He told me.
"Do you know who I am."
No.
"I am L."
