Chapter Ten - Battleplan
Lynnea left from speaking to her family, drying her tears, and found her way to the area where all the children of the former Avengers were listening to young Rina as she was giving her debrief.
A transparent globe was slowly spinning and moving to where it was isolating a location in the northern regions of Midgard.
"This is Ultron's HIVE facility," Rina was saying. "It's a Level 5 facility that is assimilating humans and gathering them for harvesting."
"Harvest for what?" the little green monster looking child asked. "It is not like robots require food to sustain themselves and function."
"Not in that sense," Rina explained, "but what do bots need to live? Electricity, right? So what produces enough electricity and so long as it is kept alive for a period of time, could produce a lifetime of electrical energy?"
"The human brain," Francis spoke of it.
"Right on," she replied. "Ultron's toxins from his factories have clogged up the skies with so much garbage that he is lucky if he can retrieve any solar power out of the sky. But that is not the worst thing."
"Oh there's more?" the small boy blurted out one of his childish responses. "How can it get worse?"
"Ultron has thousands of people and Scavenger groups not connected with us are being drawn in and harvested," Rina continued. "I tried to get to them, but I was too late. I had to slice and dice a few just to get out of there."
"So our first pri is to take out that HIVE facility," the sandy brown haired boy with the blue leather jacket said,"and we free everyone that is still alive."
"Not going to be so easy there Cap," she told him. "I watched and moved as close as I could to the base. I saw at least a thousand people loaded in the days that I was watching the facility. I did not get close enough to see what was going on, but one thing is clear," Rina explained. "You go in, you do not come out."
"Then we must free these people," her niece Torunn declared, staking her sword into the floor. She was just like her father. "We must liberate them from this prison."
"I am not one for committing suicide or genocide of what Avengers we have left," the older gentlemen spoke out.
"So what are we thinking?" her son also spoke. "We don't have the resources for widespread aerial assault."
"Then we go in with stealth," the young man in black with feline claws engraved on his suit and tattoo markings. "We find a place to infiltrate and lay waste to the facility."
"Sounds like a plan," she heard Rina speak. She moved her map around to show a small circular tunnel. "There is air pipe access that if we disable the fan blades, we can gain access to the HIVE, and destroy it."
This appeared to be a dangerous mission, but if they would have her as part of the team, she would be willing to go.
"We will start with reconnoissance," their apparent leader told them. "Rina, you pick a team that could help with infiltration. Azari, start getting the gear together."
Lynnea got a little dizzy for a moment and walked out of the chamber. She found and isolated tunnel where she hopefully thought she could could clear her head.
While in search of a place to gather some natural light or some other source of life that would help to restore her weakened strength, she began to feel as if her life was depleting, as a natural being. This mountain was dark, isolated, and cold. She hoped nature or something natural could save her.
With a planet that was dying under the oppression of this mechanical warriors, it was going to be a journey to seek and use such resources.
But she was not alone for long.
"So, when is your king going to be making an appearance?" the voice of the elder gentleman asked. It was the man with the silver hair, aging gracefully under strain of both time and stress. His arms were crossed over his chest.
"I do not know what you are speaking about," she replied in a lie; making her father proud no doubt. "I am merely a friend come to help."
"Well friend, you lie just like your king's brother," the man replied. "Torunn is pretty good when it comes to being a polygraph detector. She can tell an Asgardian from a mile away."
She had been discovered.
"My king did not send me," she revealed the truth. "In fact, he does not know of me since I do not exist." There was a period of silence. "For all intents and purposes, I am Aunt Lynnea toward Princess Torunn, but I have not been born yet."
The man was curious. "So that would make you a time traveller of sorts, right?"
"Yes. My name is Lynnea Rose Lokisdottir. I am the daughter of one of your people, Jane Foster and..."
"...Prince Loki of Asgard," the male replied. "Well, she just left Earth I'd say...twenty years ago. She wasn't with child till at least a few months after she left; and even then she had a boy. Not a girl."
"You will be long gone sir before I am conceived," she replied with a sly smile, but returned her tone to more serious one. "I am not here under the guidance of my uncle. I am here out of defiance."
Lynnea brought herself to rest up against the rocky wall. "I was ordered to stay away from this time and this place or face, at least I am certain, with excommunication or even execution."
"Ooo, harsh."
"I came here to..." She was about to say something when her senses discovered that they were not alone.
It was the young dark haired boy wearing crimson, white, and blue.
"Oh, sorry to interrupt," the youth said. "I wanted to report in to you Tony."
"It's OK James," the man whom she learned was called Tony.
Lynnea had heard of this Tony person. He was known as a hero on Earth called Iron Man. Her father and he once had a great conflict between themselves, but her mother trusted him so that was good enough to earn her trust.
"I think I know who will be on the team," James reported, "but we could still use a few more."
"Let me finish here James," Tony answered, "and I will be with you shortly."
The young one James walked out of their space and she felt safe enough to continue her revelation.
"So, you must have a reason to risk death to come here. Spill it."
She took in a deep breath and released.
"Young Francis whom I rescued from your metal warriors. He is..." She did not want to confess to this man the truth. No one should know her secret. It could impact the future as she knew it.
But her future was already destroyed and if she did not take care her son and these people, she may not have a future or worse yet, her niece would continue to suffer on this world.
"...he is of my blood."
Tony's arms dropped to his sides from his hips.
"He's what...? Wait a second. You are telling me that everything I know about lil Frankie out there...none of it is true?"
"No, it is...and it isn't." She paused and walked in a circle away from him. "Francis was conceived nearly 1300 years into the future on Asgard; with a father, Clinton, who is from your past."
"Talk about reaching out and touching someone," Tony said, though she did not know what he was talking about. "Your future and Barton's past made a child. And I thought my family was out of this world, but lady, you take the cake on this one."
"Francis cannot know who I am or why I am here," Lynnea spoke. "You must swear to me that he will not know."
"Well, Francis is a smart kid," he replied to her request. "Bobbi Jo and Hawkeye raised him well and as best as they could until Ultron and the robots took over. He's had to raise himself ever since and even then, he's better than anyone else in this cave. He will not hear a peep out of me..."
"Thank you sir," she answered.
"...but don't think you are going to be able to keep the truth from him for good," he finished talking. "Eventually, he is going to figure it out."
"And I will approach that precipice when I get there...but I have another problem," she brought up to their attention. "I am the Guardian of Nature and Life."
"Yeah..." Tony drew out his reply.
Lynnea brushed a hand through her hair, several new strands entangling her fingers.
"Oh..."
"Without life or nature to heal me or make me stronger, I am on borrowed time."
"How much?"
"Unknown...and in being cut off from Asgard here in the past or in my future, I cannot depend on my ancestors to save me," she spoke. "I have to live as though I were a mortal."
"Can you?"
They were interrupted, but this time by her son, Francis.
"Tony, Rina has selected her team to invade the farm," Francis said. "Wants to pass it by you so we can the people ready with some tech and weaponry."
"JOCOSTA and I will be there shortly," Tony spoke to her son.
He started to work.
"We have very little resources, but I have a colleague that might be able to help you," he said. "Let me go to my meeting and then we can hopefully figure out something."
"I am in your debt Master Stark."
"If you can save us, I will consider the debt paid-in-full" he told her. "Go visit with Doctor Ross and see what she can do and then visit with Rina at the supply lockers. Might be able to fortify you more."
"I am going to go and get some air and clear my head.," Lynnea replied, hoping that this would give her much needed natural life she needed to win another day.
The battle and a huge revelation is coming...please review.
