Hey guys. So no one reviewed my new story. I need feedback on it. My offer from last chapter still stands. Anyway, here's Chapter 11.
Kendall's POV
I looked at my desk, then my paper, then the clock. I needed to write a speech for my birthday celebration, but no ideas were coming. Ivy was probably sleeping in her room, since the doctors had told her to rest for a week. Don't get me wrong, I was glad that she was getting better, but that also meant that she wouldn't be helping me.
Jo was doing who knows what in her office. No help there, either.
Jett was the one who asked me to get the speech out of the way, right when I was about to go up to Ivy's room to see how she was doing, so there was no way on Earth I'd go to Jett for help.
Ivy. Lately, she had been all I thought about. Her eyes. Her smile. The fight. How she collapsed. How her hand gripped mine before she passed out. The time I spent waiting at the hospital. How I didn't visit her in the hospital because I was too nervous.
I shook his head to clear my thoughts. I needed to focus on getting this done. Jett had said someone would be coming to see me, so I knew I had to focus. Maybe I needed a walk. Yeah, maybe a walk would clear my mind.
Making up my mind, I walked up and out of my room. I turned and was walking down the stairs, when I saw Ivy come down the other staircase. I quickly went to the other staircase.
"Hey Ivy," I said. Ivy turned to me and smiled.
"Hi."
The two began to walk down the stairs together, while I was trying to find something to say to keep their conversation going. "So, what has you coming down?" I asked Ivy. Ivy looked at me as if I was crazy. "It's lunchtime."
"Oh yeah. I knew that." I was calm on the outside, but falling apart on the inside.
You couldn't just look at the time? How awkward was that? Dumb, dumb, dumb, I thought to myself.
"And Jett did say you would have a visitor today," Ivy added.
I stared at her. "Since when do you talk to Jett?"
"I don't. But Jett actually visits me sometimes."
"Oh. Well, I'm sorry for, well, not visiting." Keep it together Kendall. "I was busy."
Ivy laughed. "That's not what Jett said."
I turned to look at her so fast I almost got whiplash. "What?"
"He said you were just lying around."
I lowered my eyes and she laughed. "Don't worry, I'm not mad. I wouldn't want to visit you in a hospital either."
I must have looked really shocked, because Ivy was laughing even harder, if that was possible. "You suck."
"I," she had to pause to take a breath. "I thought that was my line."
I didn't mind Ivy laughing at me. I was honestly glad to see her well. And she looked really pretty when she laughed, and-wait a second! Ivy is my assistant. Nothing more, nothing less. No feelings.
We walked into the Dining Room together. Jett looked over and saw me. "Did you finish?"
I shook my head. "I needed a walk. And maybe food."
Jett rolled his eyes, but said nothing.
Suddenly, the door opened again, and Mercedes Griffin walked through. "Kendall, darling!" She yelled, pulling me into a hug. Ivy stepped back and watched, a stunned but amused look on her face.
"Jett, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked. He nodded amd we walked out.
"All the people in the world and you invited Mercedes Griffin?"
"What's wrong with her?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes. "Everything."
I walked back into the dining hall, and sat down. To my surprise, Katie walked in and sat next to Ivy. I watched as she whispered something to Ivy, and watched Ivy whisper back.
Jett cleared his throat. "Ivy, shouldn't you be in your room?"
Ivy shook her head. "I'm supposed to rest as much as possible, not lock myself in my room. Besides, I wasn't going to starve. Chef Gustavo's been bringing out the A game."
Jett sighed. "Fine. Tomorrow, I'll take you to our farm."
Ivy smiled. "You have a farm?"
"Where do you think we get these things from?" Katie asked.
"I always thought you bought them."
We all stared at her, but then the food came, and we began to eat. The food was delicious, and lunch was soon over. At least for me. I needed to talk to James and Carlos.
Ivy's POV
Katie had asked me to meet her in the library. Just to see what she wanted, I decided to go. I had settled in the history section, when Katie came. "Hello, Ivy."
"Hi Princess Katherine," I responded.
"Call me Katie. You're a busy girl, so I'm going to keep this brief. My brother has a major crush on you. Just thought you should know that, so you can be more careful."
I blinked. "Thanks."
Katie nodded and disappeared.
I cocked my head to one side, and went back to looking for books.
The next day, I had to go to the farm with Jett, so I quickly got dressed in my most casual clothes, and headed out. Jett spoke up while we were driving. "Ivy, I'm just going to warn you right now that these farmers are clinically insane."
I shook my head. "You've never been second in command at one of the Northeast's biggest companies. What you call weird, I call normal."
"Suit yourself," Jett said.
"Jett?" I asked.
He grunted.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure."
Suddenly, the words were hard to find. "How...how long have you been working for Prince Kendall?"
Jett sighed. "For 16 years. I started out as his valet, and worked my way up."
"And are you happy here?"
Jett didn't answer as we turned into a large farm. I stepped out of the car, and saw two men walking out.
"Jett!" One yelled out.
"Good to see you," said the other one.
And then they turned to me.
"This must be Ivy," one said.
I was suddenly crushed by a very strong hug from...both of them? Maybe Jett was right about this whole clinically insane thing. I subtly rubbed my scar, wondering how badly they had hurt it.
"I'm Dennis," the first one said.
"And I'm Bobby."
And this will be a very long day.
Kendall's POV
James and Carlos were sitting on my couch with terrified expressions on their faces.
"So she's here?" James asked, terrified.
I nodded. "Apparently, Jett decided to invite her over. She just bugs me."
"Me too. But are any suitors here? Or your assistant?"
Carlos threw a cushion at him. "His assistant would break you in two, and none of his suitors would want to be seen with you."
James looked up. "Kendall, when are we meeting your assistant?"
"You met her," I said.
"No, we haven't, but you always talk about her."
Suddenly, the sound of shrieking was heard in the hallway.
"Well I don't care if he's the prince! He can't just run off! My dad is the head of the Congress, making him the third most powerful adult in California! If I don't see some respect, I'll-"
I jumped up and ran to my closet. "If she comes in here, I went to the stables."
Carlos and James nodded, hoping she wouldn't come.
She did.
Mercedes began banging on the door. "Let me in! I demand to see the Prince!"
Carlos quickly opened the door. "Hi Mercedes!"
"Carlos, WHERE IS KENDALL?!"
James saw Carlos's resolve breaking and quickly jumped in to help.
"He went to the stables. He's probably riding right now."
Mercedes narrowed her eyes. "He's in the closet."
My eyes widened and I quickly found the switch to a passageway. I opened the passage and quickly let myself in. I quickly ran to the end of the hallway, turned into a different one, and hurried out.
But not before hearing Mercedes scream wildly.
Ivy's POV
Dennis and Bobby led us to a barn that was completely empty, except for a small puppy that wouldn't stop barking.
"Don't try to pet him. He'll bite your hand off."
I decided to scratch his ears anyway.
And he didn't bite my hand off. Instead, he rolled over and stuck his legs up in the air.
"I'm keeping this dog. How much do you want?" I asked.
Bobby shrugged. "I don't know. Four hundred dollars. He's housebroken and he's got his shots."
I nodded. "I'll give you a hundred."
"Deal."
What? Whatever.
I handed over the money and took the dog.
"Thank you for having us, but Prince Kendall really needs me," I said.
In the car, Jett turned to me. "That was some smooth lying. But I didn't want to stay another minute there either."
He looked at my dog. "What are you going to name him?"
I thought for a moment. "Chester. After America's only President to resign's dog."
I sat back and began scratching Chester's ears.
"So, Jett. What does Kendall on a bad day look like?"
"Horrible. Like the day I first started working for him."
"Oh?"
Jett shook his head. "He threw a major tantrum, and then wouldn't talk to me for a week. It's a good thing he likes you."
And now Jett is the second person to talk about how much Kendall likes me. But I'm sure he sees us as just friends. The way it should be.
Deep in thought, I scratched Chester's ears until we got back to the palace.
Third Person POV
Mercedes walked out of the palace and into her car, before making a call.
"What's the report, Mercedes?"
"Just as I expected. Prince Kendall is head over heels for Ivy Johnson, but she doesn't return his love. Too easy."
"Excellent. That throne will soon be ours, and the Griffin family will become the most powerful in California."
