WEDDING BELLS
"Suzy, I feel sick." Serena groaned, as she sat up in bed.
It was the morning of the wedding, 23rd October, and the bride was already feeling cold feet. Though as her sister looked upon her, she prayed that today would turn out well. Vanessa was standing against the door to the bathroom, smiling as Suzanne made her way over to the bed where Serena was still sat.
"Sweetie, in a couple of hours, you'll become a Chiba." Suzanne murmured, as she walked over to the bed.
"I know." Serena groaned with a shake of her head. **At least it's not cold feet, this time. **
"Serena, take a deep breath." Serenity called as she stepped into the room. "It will help with the nausea."
Gaea, Suzanne and Vanessa looked over at Serenity, when she handed a glass of orange juice over to Serena, along with two tablets that clearly looked like they were given to pregnant women. Serena smiled as she took the tablets and the orange juice and quickly downed the two items, blinking as her nausea faded away to be bearable, and iron tablets strengthened her to give more energy so she could go through the remainder of the day without any sort of issues.
"Why would it help with nausea, Aunt Serenity?" Vanessa asked, as she looked away from the mirror.
Serenity chuckled, and waved her hands as she took the OJ glass from Serena, and put it on the bedside table, pulling her daughter up from the bed catching her quickly when she was about to fall. Gaea raised a slender eyebrow, knowing that mother and daughter were hiding something, considering how much time the engaged and soon to be married couple spent behind closed doors.
"Come on, ladies." Serenity clapped her hands. "We've still got the spa day, plus hair and makeup to be done."
"Serenity, is my daughter-in-law pregnant?" Gaea was blunt as she looked upon the duo. **What are they hiding? **
"Why do you say that, Gaea?" Serenity squeaked, as she glanced over at Serena.
**This is not what I wanted. ** Serenity thought with a groan.
Gaea raised an eyebrow knowing that mother and daughter were hiding something, and if Serena was feeling the pangs of morning sickness, it would explain some things. Gaea raised a slender eyebrow, as she stood from her position after dealing with her daughter's hair to glance over at Serena, after noticing the label for iron tablets resting on the bottle, and Serena's name underneath it. It was a set of prescription tablets given to pregnant women to deal with iron deficiency, and as she stared straight at Serena, she knew that she would need to get her answers.
"She's been feeling unwell for the past couple of days, including sickness in the morning from what Darien has said already." Gaea stated with a slender raised eyebrow. "Not only that but you've been giving her tablets, we've eaten when we were pregnant especially with the two sets of twins we managed to birth."
"Auntie Gaea." Serena squeaked as her eyes widened. **This is not what I wanted. **
"Don't go and lie to me, Serena." Gaea stated with a frown and turned to face her. "You're marrying my son today and I will not have you hide away like a child, especially if you are pregnant."
Serena sighed, and as she looked around the room at Vanessa and Suzanne, she knew she had to come out with it sooner. The pregnancy scare that faced them with months after her attack had caught them off guard and Serena had been careful in the years after, ensuring that she had not become pregnant until the time was right. At the earlier stage of her relationship with her other half, she knew it needed to grow and form strong and true, and so did he before they had ended up in bed together, but true to their words, it wasn't until much later, months after she had turned 14 that they had ended up having a sexual relationship.
"I'm pregnant." Serena whispered as she looked at her hands. "I'm, according to the doctor, about two and half months in."
"The doctor says there's danger of her miscarrying, Gaea." Serenity placed a hand on Serena's shoulder. **I wish that we could take this away from you, sweet pea. **
"So what happened to her when she was younger?" Gaea asked as she shook her head.
"It could affect the child she's carrying." Serenity confirmed as she nodded her head. "There's also the stress of wedding planning."
Serena sighed, as she stood from the bed, before a hiss escaped as she grasped her stomach. A sharp pain went through her and her eyes widened in considerable shock, when she remembered a previous feeling similar to the one she was having now. Her mother and twin sister looked at her in worry, but Vanessa had a frown on her face, wondering about her overall health. If Serena was feeling the pangs of a miscarriage, then they would need to get her to a hospital and delay the ceremony until the birth progressed as normal, but as luck would have it, Serena blinked and shook her head as the sharp pains disappeared.
"Serena?" Serenity asked, as she caught her daughter's posture. "Are you ok, darling?"
"I'm fine." Serena smiled, as she turned to her mother. "It was just a twinge that disappeared, though it was painfully sharp but I'm fine."
"We can go to the doctor's?" Gaea asked as her eyes darkened in worry.
"Auntie, I'm fine." Serena stated, as she stood properly, and shook her head slightly to clear it. "It's probably nothing to worry about. Besides we'll be late for our appointments."
Hours had passed, and it was nearly time for the ceremony to get underway.
The congregation had already been seated, but the bride's and groom's mothers, being best friends, were running back and forth to ensure that everything was all ready and perfect for their children's wedding. From his place at the makeshift altar, Darien shook his head at his mother as he looked over at his brother knowing that he would be happy with however Serena looked, even if she was dressed in jeans and a shirt. He had loved Serena with all his heart and smiled brightly, when Serena accepted his proposal to marry, knowing that they had not rushed and this were what they had wanted in the end.
Outside the closed doors, Serena was leaning against the side wall, as she breathed heavily. Jonathan was stood off to the side, speaking to an usher, as Serena struggled to fight through the pain in her lower abdomen. Suzanne stood next to her, and watched with worry as Serena took a harsh breath, before pushing from the wall, and taking her place behind everyone else.
"Don't worry about me, Suzy." Serena whispered as she winced. "I'll get through it."
"Serena, you're in pain." Suzanne hissed as she looked up. "Darien will figure out that something is wrong?"
**Serena you need to see a doctor. ** Suzanne bit her lower lip in worry. **This sort of pain isn't normal for you. **
"No one will find out." Serena stated, as she turned to her sister. "Please let nothing come between us?"
Suzanne nodded at her sister's plea, before their father joined up with them and offered his arm for Serena. Serena smiled and looped her hand through it, with a light smile to him as a feeling of pain shot through her lower abdomen once more, but this time a small wince flickered across her skin and this time only Suzanne was able to catch it. Suzanne looked worried as she took her place in front of her sister, praying that nothing would happen and that everything would go well.
"Dad, don't let me fall." Serena whispered, as she stood outside the doors.
"I won't, darling." Jonathan smiled, as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Just breathe. Your other half is waiting at the end of the aisle for you."
"Are you ready, Serena?" Suzanne asked as she looked over her shoulder.
"I am." Serena nodded as a small smile appeared. "Go ahead, Suzanne."
The flower girl and ring bearer were the first to go; they were the children of the cousin of one of Serena's closest friends, when she was attending Phoenix Academy. Like her parents and in-laws, it was the same school where she and Darien fell in love and now at long last, she was getting married to the man of her dreams.
"Girls, be ready." Suzanne called from her sister's side. "Boys, be ready."
"Suzy, everything will be fine." Serena murmured as she looked up with a raised eyebrow. "Don't put yourself under too much pressure."
"I want it to go fine, Serena." Suzanne smiled and gave a small wink. "I'm your maid of honour for a reason and don't worry about me, concentrate on the person waiting on the end of the aisle."
"You're also my sister." Serena grinned, before the music was heard. "I'm meant to be a worrywart."
When the music changed to allow the wedding party to march, Serena giggled as her sister winked. One by one, the bridesmaids who were Vanessa, Aurora and her siblings, made their way out into the room, before Suzanne walked as it was her turn to walk out.
"Let's get you to your other half." Jonathan whispered, as he lifted the veil over her head.
"I'm still your daughter, papa." Serena returned as she closed her eyes.
"You won't need my support." Jonathan stated, looking ahead at the future that awaited his eldest daughter. "You'll learn to rely on Darien for the majority, my dear."
"You'll be a great grandfather when the time comes." Serena sniffled and her grip tightened on him. "I promise I'll ask if Darien's being a stick in the mud with me."
Jonathan chuckled, and kissed his daughter's forehead, one last time, before the music changed once more. It was time for the bride to make her appearance. Jonathan and Serena finally entered through the doors, and when they walked up the path, Serenity stood with a light smile. The remainder of the procession stood, when the bride entered, as she was walked down the aisle with her father. Once they reached the end of the aisle, and Jonathan handed his daughter to Darien, the procession was seated then once again with a nod from the minister.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of Serena Moon and Darien Chiba in holy matrimony." The minister's voice rang out across the room. "If anyone can show why these two may not be joined here today, speak now or forever hold your peace."
Silence rang out across the room, and for a minute, Serena held her breath hoping that nothing would go wrong today. After another minute had passed, the minister smiled, and nodded over to the father of the bride.
"Let us begin then." The minister spoke once again. "Who gives this woman away to this man?"
"Her mother and I do." Jonathan whispered as he smiled at his daughter.
"Thank you." Serena mouthed.
Jonathan placed a gentle kiss on Serena's hand, and placed her hand in Darien's, before moving over to sit next to Serenity. Serenity looked up with a light smile as Jonathan moved back to the seat by his side, as their daughter was finally becoming married after the long years of torment and issues in their earlier years.
"She'll be happy, Jonathan." Serenity whispered as she curled into him. "She's still in our sights though?"
"Oh I know." Jonathan chuckled and kissed the top of her head. "Now we just have to wait until the next one leaves the nest."
"Jonathan!" Serenity squeaked.
**I can't believe him. ** Serenity thought with a shake of her head.
Jonathan smirked, and pulled Serenity closer, as they turned to watch their daughter get married to the man of her dreams. It was the same man she had grown up with, and Darien had already been pulled in to protecting her from the minute she had opened her eyes to him in the hospital room, he alone had been drawn to their daughter from infancy and they hoped there was nothing that would break them apart.
"Darien, if you can follow my words now." The minister called, as he looked over to the groom. "Do the both of you consent to this marriage with your hearts?"
"Yes." Darien and Serena agreed and gave their confirmation through a small nod of their heads.
"If you can take each other's hands and we'll proceed." The minister waved over to Serena.
Darien smiled briefly, and took both of Serena's shaking hands in his own knowing that she was nervous. The minister smiled, as Serena breathed out a small sigh, and locked eyes with Darien. When the minister started saying the wedding vows, Darien's sapphire blues softened as he turned to face his wife to be and began reciting after minister proceedings.
"I, Darien, take thee Serena to be my lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold." Darien breathed, as he smiled at his wife to be. "From this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health." Serena smiled softly, as he squeezed her hands. "To love honour and cherish, 'til death do us part."
"Now Serena, if you can repeat after me." The minister turned to Serena.
Serena nodded, and once again the minister repeated the same phrase. Serena breathed in and sighed, as she began repeating after him, locking her gaze with Darien's own, knowing that their hearts would be entwined from this day until either breathed their last on this world.
"I, Serena, take thee Darien to be my lawful wedded husband, to have and to hold." Serena smiled, even as Drake and her brothers snickered. "From this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health." Darien glared at his brother, before turning back to Serena. "To love honour and cherish, 'til death do us part."
Serena raised a slender eyebrow, as she tilted her head to glare over at the groomsmen stood just behind Darien. Darien turned and raised an eyebrow in annoyance, even as the rest of the procession watched, whilst the bridesmaids rolled their eyes knowing that the men would just entertain themselves at the bride's annoyance.
"May we proceed?" The minister asked.
**What have I gotten myself into? ** The minister asked as Serena and Darien turned back.
"Darien, do you have a ring to give to Serena?" The minister looked over at Darien. "Once you have, state I thee wed."
"I do." Darien murmured, as he placed the ring on Serena's finger. "With this ring, I thee wed."
"Serena, do you have a ring to give to Darien?" The minister nodded, and asked the same of Serena.
"I do." Serena replied.
Serena placed the gold ring on Darien's finger muttering the same 'With this ring, I thee wed' phrase that the minister had asked. The two rings, engagement and wedding, sparkled in the light on their fingers, as they looked back at each other. The minister smiled and nodded.
"Now that you have placed the rings on each other, let it be known that they have given and received." The minister stated. "This is a token of your affection, sincerity and fidelity, so that you may remain with another 'til the end of days."
Darien smiled, as he looked down at the wedding ring that had graced Serena's finger. She was now his, as she looked up at him with a tiny blush on her features.
"By the authority vested in me by the state of Boston, I now pronounce you husband and wife." The minister stated. "You may now kiss the bride."
Wolf whistles rang out across the hall, as Serena and Darien kissed for the first time as a married couple. The minister chuckled, as Serena pulled back with a blush on her cheeks, and buried her face in Darien's shirt, whilst Darien's arms tightened around her waist.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, may I please." The minister stated. "Present to you Mr and Mrs Darien Endymion James Chiba."
The bride and groom walked down, and out into the waiting reception area. Following behind them, were their siblings and then their parents. Another couple of hours had passed, and it was filled with laughter, dancing and merriment, but several people had caught it as agony flickered across the face of the bride, as she placed a hand to her stomach.
"Serena, sweetie, what's wrong?" Darien asked as he moved to her side.
"I'm fine." Serena gasped as she shook her head. **Please not now, please. **
"Darien, take her to a doctor." Suzanne hissed as she ran up.
"Suzanne, I'm fine." Serena gasped before a whimper escaped. "Or actually then again, maybe not."
"I don't call this fine, Serena, you're in severe pain." Suzanne growled as she looked at her brother-in-law. "Darien, get her to the hospital."
Serena gasped once more and whimpered at the agony that was shooting throughout her young figure, closing her eyes as she leaned forward. Just above her hunched form, as flashes of pain flickered over her features, Darien, Drake and Suzanne looked at each other knowing that they would need to rush.
