Chapter 11
"Wake her up."
Senri blinked, looking over at Rima in slight shock. "...Why do I have to do it?"
"Because I don't want to," Rima whispered harsjly as she turned to look back at Sakurai's sleeping form.
"But she's scary when she's tired," Senri whispered, yawning himself.
Rima sighed, shaking her head and leaning over to gently shake Sakurai's shoulder. "Sakurai...Sakurai, wake up."
Sakurai muttered something. her blue eyes fluttering open and focusing on the two vampires looking down at her. "...What the...what time is it?"
"Nine-thirty," Senri murmured quietly.
Sakrai blinked in mild confusion, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. "In the evening?"
"No," Rima smiled. "Morning."
Sakurai's eyes narrowed dangerously as she ran a hand through her hair. "Why are you waking me up so damn early?"
"We need to prepare for the dance," Rima chirped, pulling Sakurai out of the bed. Sakurai stumbled, huffing and pulling free. Rima grinned. "Come on, get dressed, early bird!"
"Go to Hell," Sakurai muttered sourly, stalking to her dresser and all but yanking it open. She rifled through her clothes before glancing over her shoulder. "What's the weather like?"
"It's starting to cool down so maybe you should wear a sweater or at least long sleeved," Senri murmured as he headed for the door. "Just hurry. I'd like to leave before Takuma wakes up."
Sakurai watched the two vampires leave before dressing in a pair of black jeans and a long sleeved gray shirt (courtesy of Kaien), and pulling her hair up into a ponytail. She pulled on her shoes, glancing and frowning at the sun streaming into her room. "Ill kill them..."
She sighed yet again and made her way out of the room, slightly surprised at how silent the dorms were now that the sun was up. It was normally somewhat noisy, Aido always yelling about something, but currently it was as silent as death.
Sakurai didn't like it very much. It reminded her slightly of the cell the society had her in and, with a frown, she hurried down the stairs. She found Senri and Rima near the door and, to her dismay, Kaname along with them. She groaned quietly, rolling her eyes as she came to a stop before him. "You're up early, Kuran."
"I could say the same about you," Kaname murmured, running a hand through his hair slowly before crossing his arms. "Rima tells me they're taking you shopping for the dance."
"Apparently," Sakurai muttered with a small shrug. "I need a dress and everything since I'm being forced to go."
Kaname gave a small smile. "Don't think of it as you being forced. Think of it as...a sort of homework assignment."
Sakurai raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms as well. "Homework? I'd rather be doing that then dancing."
Kaname chuckled before yawning slightly. "Well, I'll walk you three out."
"Shouldn't you go to sleep?" Sakurai muttered, a small frown on her lips. "It looks like you didn't even go to sleep yet..."
In truth Kaname had tried to sleep, but more nightmares of the beautiful girl in his dreams had awoken him. But...he wouldn't tell her that. "You sound concerned for me, Miss Manami." A smirk graced his lips as he opened the front door.
Sakurai blinked before huffing and stomping out the door. "I was just trying to be nice!"
Kaname chuckled quietly, following Rima and Senri once they, too, walked out. The four walked slowly through Cross Academy, thankful that the students were all in class at this time. Getting off campus with the fans around would have proved to be nearly impossible. Kaname rubbed an eye sleepily, looking up to find Sakurai staring at him as she walked, her expression troubled. He blinked slightly. "What is it, Sakurai?"
The girl blinked in return, shaking her head and looking ahead of her. "Nothing, forget it."
Kaname frowned, curious as to what it was the girl was thinking. He stepped closer and stared at her. "Tell me."
Sakurai frowned, glaring from the corner of her eye. "...It's about this stupid dance..."
"What about it?" Kaname wondered idly, looking ahead of them once more.
Sakurai huffed, biting her lip and then huffing again. "...You said I have to dance with students but...does that mean with...you too?"
Kaname blinked in surprise, looking over to see the girl glaring at him. He chuckled, shrugging a bit. "If you wish to, but you will not be forced to. You have to dance with Day Class students, but weather or not if you dance with Night Class students is up to you." He smirked slowly. "Did you want to dance with me, Miss Manami?"
"Don't be an idiot!" Sakurai snapped, hissing a bit after her words. She looked away, sighing. "I didn't want to dance with you, that's why I asked, jerk."
"Now, now kids," Rima chirped from up ahead, smiling their way. "No fighting."
Kaname smiled a little, unaffected by the fact that dancing with Sakurai didn't seem all that bad to him. However, a frown formed on his lips as he remembered that strange student who had wanted to dance with Sakurai. "...Will you dance with that Ren boy?"
Sakurai's eyes narrowed. "What? Why would you ask that?"
"I'm simply curious," Kaname murmured. "I may have to warn him that you bite."
Sakurai rolled her eyes and sighed. "If he asks me to dance then yes, I'll be dancing with him."
Kaname took a moment to think that over. Arguing with Sakurai would be useless; he would talk to Zero about it. It wasn't that he cared about who Sakurai danced with, it was that this boy, Ren, gave off a strange and suspicious vibe that he could not dismiss. "Very well."
Sakurai frowned but said nothing. They came to the academy gates, Kaname looking at Rima and Senri. "Keep an eye on Sakurai; you'll be around humans."
Sakurai glared from the corner of her eye. "I have better restraint."
"Only because you fed recently," Kaname murmured, shaking his head and looking back at Rima and Senri. "Don't get too distracted or take too long. Get her something fitting...You're models, you're good at that."
Senri nodded absently. "Yeah, don't worry."
"We've got this handled, Kaname," Rima assured, grabbing Sakurai's wrist and pulling the irritated girl closer. "She'll look gorgeous."
Kaname smiled softly. "Yes, well-"
"Miss Manami!"
Kaname's gaze hardened, a frown on his lips as Ren came running towards them. The black haired boy smiled as his eyes fell on Sakurai, Kaname crossing his arms as he took a small step back. Sakurai tilted her head a bit. "Ren? Shouldn't you be in class?"
"I was excused from this period," Ren replied with a small shrug. He smiled again. "Where are you going?"
"Dress shopping, apparently," Sakurai murmured, shrugging a bit. "Nothing too important."
Ren's smile only grew. "That sounds fun. Wear something pretty...not that you aren't already pretty."
Kaname cleared his throat, catching the other boy's attention. "Sakurai has limited time so if you would, please leave her to be on her way."
Sakurai frowned, holding back a sigh as she looked away from Ren. "I'll see you later."
Ren and Kaname, a few feet apart, watched as Sakurai got into the car with Rima and Senri. When the car was out of sight, Kaname turned back to Ren. "What did you say your name was?"
Ren looked over at the other male with a grin. "Ren, Kuran-Sempai."
"I haven't seen you around," Kaname murmured back. He raised an eyebrow curiously, waiting.
Ren smiled again. "I normally stay in classes or the dorms. I just recently found a reason to come out."
Curious, Kaname tilted his head. "And that reason was...?"
Ren's smile grew brighter, if possible. "Sakurai-Can."
Kaname mentally scolded himself for the rush of anger that went through him at the boys statement. He grit his teeth before speaking. "You seem to have an interest in Miss Manami."
"She's really pretty," Ren shrugged as he turned on his heel. "I'll be seeing you around, Kuran-Sempai!"
Kaname watched as the Day Class student ran off. Slowly, the scent of dying flowers invaded his senses. IT was floral, almost sweet but covered by something almost dusty. He frowned again, unsettled.
Was he jealous?
No, he wouldn't be jealous. Sakurai was...Sakurai.
Senri yawned, rubbing an eye as he leaned back against the wall. "Hurry."
From inside the dressing room, Sakurai growled out, "Stop rushing me!"
"You're taking forever," Senri murmured back as he gazed around the store. "It doesn't take an eternity to put on a dress."
Rima elbowed him lightly and smiled. "Relax, Takuma will still be there when we get home."
Senri rolled his eyes as he nodded. Rima smiled again, looking towards the dressing room. The lock clicked and the door opened, Sakurai walking out ever so slowly. The other two vampires stood a little bit straighter as Sakurai came out, her face a light shade of red. The dress Rima had told her to try on was light blue with a low cut back, the item hugging to her body snuggly but not too much. It stopped just above her knees and, the best part of it Rima would say, was that it was strapless. Rima gasped, grinning. "You look gorgeous!"
"I feel naked," Sakurai snapped back, frowning and looking away. "It...it's short..."
"Well I figured you'd trip in something long," Rima replied with a giggle as she walked over and looked Sakurai up and down. "You're getting this one. What do you think, Senri?"
Senri looked up and cocked his head to the side. "...It's pretty, Sakurai-Chan."
Sakurai huffed, knowing there was no way she was going to win the argument. She changed back into her other clothes while Rima paid for the dress, walking out to stand beside Senri. Senri glanced at her, noticing the uneasiness of her stance. "...Stop looking nervous."
Sakurai blinked and looked at him. "I...right..."
Senri gave the smallest of smiles. "Are you going to look so nervous when all eyes are on you at the dance?"
Sakurai looked horrified, eyes wider and face pink. "No one will be looking at me!"
"Kaname will." Senri stated before pulling Sakurai towards the exit. The next few hours were spent tying on and eventually buying, shoes, make up and jewelry to match the dress. Sakurai, though far beyond her comfort zone in all of it, followed the two vampires more than willingly. It surprised her, but Rima and Senri were the two she felt most comfortable around, save for Takuma as well. With Ruka there was tension, irritable and angry. With Yuki it was strained, part of Sakurai wanting to rip the female Pureblood in half and another trying not to care. With Aido it was simply awkward, the little blonde still convinced the girl would eat him; Sakurai was tempted. Kain was...easier, though he simply ignored Sakurai anyways. As for Kaname...
Sakurai felt a wave of irritation was over her at the thought of the arrogant Pureblood. Oh, how he pissed her off...
But, she would admit to only herself, there was something about him that left her...curious. Yes, he was rude and arrogant but, at the same time, he seemed to, on a certain level, care somewhat about Sakurai.
No, she quickly shook her head. No thinking like that, idiot.
No, Kaname was a vampire and a Pureblood at that. There was no kind quality to find in him.
Sakurai sighed, waiting outside of a cafe as Rima and Senri ordered god knew what for lunch. A breeze blew by, gray clouds now lingering in the sky. Sakurai looked up, biting down on her lip. This is growing far too irritating...
"But the fun hasn't even started yet."
Her heart beat a little faster as she heard the voice, her fists clenching at her sides until she felt her nails break the skin on her palms. Wincing, she looked back down to stare at her bleeding palms. Her hands were shaking, though that was far from surprising. "Damn it all..."
It was almost evening when they finally came back to the academy, Rima and Senri carrying her bags as they came into the dorms. Sakurai was surprised to find ZEro there, half way up the stairs. "Zero?"
The hunter paused, looking over his shoulder. "Sakurai, hey."
"What are you doing here?" The girl asked quietly, watching as Rima and Senri went ahead upstairs to put the bags in her room. She looked back to Zero. "You didn't come to find me, did you?"
"No, Kuran wanted to see me," Zero replied as he shook his head. "Not sure what it's about."
Sakurai nodded slowly, attempting to walk past him. Zero stopped her, grabbing her wrist and making her face him. He smiled a bit, though it seemed hesitant. Sakurai tugged her wrist free. "What is it?"
"Are you ok?" Zero wondered.
Sakurai nodded. "Yes...tired, is all. I was woken early...go, see Kuran before he has a fit."
Zero watched his friends hurry off and a sigh escaped his lips before he too continued up the stairs. He yawned, knocking roughly on Kaname's door. "Kuran, open the damn door."
It swung open, Kaname glaring slightly. "Impatient, Zero?"
"Tired,' Zero replied, shoving his way inside. "I was sleeping when Aido ran into my dorm. Why of all people did you send that fool?"
"He'd be the fastest," Kaname murmured as he closed his door. He walked back to his desk and sat down, eyes locked on the hunter before him. Zero crossed his arms, waiting, and Kaname spoke. "Do you know a student by the name of Ren?"
"Ren?" Zero repeated, frowning. "First year?"
"Third year, I believe," Kaname stated. "Dark hair?"
Zero shook his head."I know all the male third years; there's no Ren. Why?"
Kaname frowned as he turned to stare at the setting sun in his window. "...There's a boy here by that name who has taken a very...questionable interest in Sakurai, Zero. He'll be at the dance."
"I'm guessing I'm supposed to keep my eyes on this guy?" Zero guessed. "I guess I can...wait, why do you care?" Zero's lips turned up in a small smirk. "Getting jealous, Kuran?"
"Don't be stupid," Kaname hissed, turning back to the other boy. "But Sakurai is now my responsibility and it's my duty to be sure nothing happens to her. This boy is suspicious and I want you to assist me in watching him."
Zero rolled his eyes and then nodded."I will, I will. Don't worry."
He found it almost comical that Kaname made such a command but, another part of him took notice to the fierce, unsettled look on the Pureblood's face. If somethign could put such a look on Kaname's face, Zero knew it was serious. Turning for the door, Zero looked over his shoulder. "I'll keep an eye on her, Kuran, as long as you do as well."
Kaname knew he would and it irritated him. Why would he care for Sakurai, the girl who irritated him to no end?
Sighing, he stood and ran a hand through his hair. He wouldn't focus on that now.
