"Thank you." Klaus said as he hung up his phone. He turned to look at his son while smiling. "Let's go and have a little chat with our good friend Chase."
"This will be fun." Alex replied.
They have been looking for Chase and Alex for over two weeks now and this was their first lead. Alex was very excited to be a part of this, somewhere deep inside of him he knew that this was in his nature, to be like his father. He had been such a good boy for so long that it was now time to change it up a bit.
They arrived at a small bar in the middle of New York City. Klaus had seen Chase only one time and that was all that it took for him to sniff him out. He was sitting alone in a booth, clearly waiting for someone. Alex took the liberty to take a seat in front of him, since Chase didn't know who he was.
"Mind if I sit?" Alex asked, smiling from ear to ear. Chase looked at him with distaste.
"Actually, I do mind. I'm waiting for someone." He replied.
"Well, the more the merrier." Alex added, grabbing one of the menus.
"Look dude, you don't want to mess with me so I suggest you move it along." Chase then demanded. Alex looked up from his menu before he started to laugh. "What's so funny?"
"Do you really think that you can scare me?" He stated. Chase gave him a smirk as he let his vampire features show. Alex made wide eyes, acting as if he was scared. "Oh my…" He gasped, covering his mouth. "Don't kill me kind sir." He then mocked before chuckling.
"I won't, if you leave."
"Now I suggest that you put those pathetic fangs away before I rip out your heart and feed it to you mate." Klaus threatened as he joined the small group. Chase's eyes grew big and he wasn't acting.
"K-Klaus?" He stuttered. Klaus smirked, taking a seat next to Alex.
"Oh, did I forget to mention that I'm Alexander Mikaelson? Son of Niklaus?" Alex added. "My mistake, mate."
"What do you want?" Chase asked.
"Ah, Chase…," Klaus sighed. "You know very well why I'm here." He leaned forward as he whispered. "See, I got word that you and Hayley pulled a little stunt with my wife, Caroline. Giving her a werewolf bite and leaving her to die. Now, am I wrong?"
"I don't know what you are speaking of."
"There is no need to lie. You and I both know that we will get the truth out from you." Alex added. "Whatever it takes."
"I won't speak." Chase stated. "And you can't compel me."
"I can't, but he sure can." Alex responded as he pointed to his father. Klaus grinned before he flashed towards Chase, breaking his neck in the process.
"Now, let's take this bloke and have some fun." Klaus stated as he looked at his son very proudly.
"So, I just got word from Nik," Rebekah stated as she entered the kitchen where Caroline and Kol were sitting. "They found Chase."
"And?" Caroline asked. "What else?"
"Well, they just found him, broke his neck and they are in their next step to making him tell them where Hayley is."
"I can't believe that it isn't me helping Nik with this." Kol stated. "But I guess I am happy that the person with him is his son."
"What I don't like is that he is showing Alex how to torture and kill." Caroline sighed. "I didn't want that life for him." Rebekah patted Caroline on the back.
"Care, he's a Mikaelson, he was bound to torture or kill someone eventually."
"I'm surprised that this will be his first one ever!" Kol added. Caroline glared at them both.
"This isn't helping." She replied. "He's my baby and I don't want him turning into…"
"Nik?" Kol and Rebekah stated in unison.
"Yes, we get it Care, but he is out there avenging you. That is what a Mikaelson man does to protect their family." Kol stated.
"I just don't approve of it." Caroline added. "We were so good without Klaus. No problems what-so-ever; we were normal, having a normal life."
Rebekah touched Caroline hand as she gave her a sympathetic look. "Honey, we are vampires and you happened to marry into the most powerful family of them all. You were never going to be normal and besides, aren't you at least a little happy that your son is bonding with his father?" Caroline licked her lips as she took a breath in.
"I am, don't get me wrong. I'd just wish that their bondage would have been over a movie or soccer…. or even history! Not killing and torturing."
"Well, that is Nik's favorite hobby." Kol added. "Care? Could I ask something a little more intimate?"
"Yeah, what is it?"
"Do you not see yourself getting back together with him?"
Caroline thought for a while as she gave them a little smile. "There was a time where that was all that I wished for. I hoped that he would come to me and ask for forgiveness and then we would kiss and live happily ever after." She looked down, avoiding the tears that were coming. "But after 50 years of not knowing how he was or where he was, I gave up hope and that is when I started living. I took the kids all over the world, saw the Eiffel tower, learned new languages and tried new cuisine." She sniffed. "I do love him, I love him so much that it hurts me. I just learned that I must think for myself too and I need to take care of myself. Being in love with him wasn't helping at all and it still isn't. He decided that he didn't want us and I have grown to understand and make my peace with it."
"So, that would be a no?" Kol asked. Caroline sighed, looking down at her hands.
"For it to be a healthy relationship there has to be trust. I don't trust him with my heart anymore; it's been broken way too many times by him and I just won't handle it."
"Care, if there is one thing for sure about my brother, it's the love he has for you and the kids." Rebekah added. "There is nothing in this world that would making him happy again than to have his family back. It might not seem like it, but just a few moments ago when I spoke to him, he sounded like he was genuinely happy." She defended. "And no, it is not because he will be torturing someone, it was because he was spending time with his son."
"If I may interject." Elijah interrupted as he walked up to them. He had heard part of their conversation when he entered the house. "Niklaus is a stubborn man and the only reason he is not here begging for forgiveness is because he thinks you won't take him back. And even though I do not justify his indiscretions and for him letting you leave, I do know him very well and he is still very much in love with you." Elijah dug into his suit pocket before he took out a piece of paper. He placed it in front of Caroline to reveal that it was a drawing of her. "I stole this one small piece from his studio from the thousands that he has of you and the children."
Caroline touched the paper carefully. It was a drawing of her during the '80s when she was at a club with a friend she had just met that day. "How…?"
"See, I have just learned this myself, Niklaus kept close eyes on you all. He would make sure that you were safe and that you had everything you wished for." Elijah commented. "We all thought he had given up on you but, we all were the ones that had given up on him."
"Well, look who decided to wake up." Alex commented as Chase lifted his head up. Alex injected him once again with vervain and wolfs bane. "Now, will you be cooperative or will my dad have to force the information out of you?"
"Fuck you." He breathed out. The door to the motel opened allowing Klaus to enter. Chase turned to look at him, as he winced from the tight ropes around his wrists and neck. They were laced with wolfs bane.
"Oh, that is no way to speak to my son, Chase." Klaus stated, getting closer to him. "You know what I do to people who disrespect my family?" He knelt to his eye level before plunging a knife to his leg. Chase let out a pathetic yell, too weak to do more. "I hope you can be a good sport and tell me where Hayley is."
"Over my dead body." Chase hissed through his clenched teeth. He spits in Klaus' face as he smirked. Klaus inhaled deeply, cleaning the spit off his face.
"Alex, show our guest some manners."
"My pleasure." Alex grabbed his knife, giving him a long cut on his right arm before stapling it open, not allowing it to heal. Chase yelled out in agony. "We need you to bleed out, bud."
"Fucking monsters." Chase whispered, feeling too dizzy to fight back. "I won't say shit." And with that he passed out. Alex cut open the other hand and stapled it open as well.
"That vervain in his system will soon be out and we will be able to compel him." Klaus explained.
"I hate to admit it, but this is fun."
After a few hours, he woke up, wincing in pain. "Do you feel like cooperating now, mate?" Klaus asked, coming to stand in front of him. Chase looked up at him, he hated him and that was for sure.
"Kill me for all I care." He replied. Klaus took the staples off him, making him cry out in pain once again. He chuckled at how stupid Chase was sounding.
"Look, Chase, I am actually giving you an out." Klaus stated, staring at him. "I was nice enough to not kill you but you give me no choice." He plunged his hand inside his chest, grabbing his heart. Chase's eyes bulged out as he gasped for breath.
"Dad!?" Alex called out as he came out of the restroom. "What are you doing?" Klaus turned to look at him.
"What I should have done a long time ago." He turned back. "Tell me where Hayley is!"
"She's-she's in New Orleans," Chase breathed out. Klaus grinned at how easy it was to get the information out.
"Thanks mate." And with that he pulled his heart out. "And that is how you deal with imbeciles like him."
"I thought you were just going to compel him, that's why we bled him out." Alex commented, looking at his father in disbelief. Klaus let the heart drop from his hand as he grabbed a towel cloth, wiping the blood from his hand.
"Men, like Chase, deserve to die. He double crossed me, almost killed your mother, and he was refraining important information from me." Klaus defended, walking closer to his son. "You do not betray a Mikaelson." He placed his hand behind Alex's neck, staring him straight in the eyes. "I won't let anyone bring harm to you, your sister or your mother. That is a promise." Alex shut his eyes, avoiding the tears that were threatening to fall.
"We should go and finish the job." Alex added, pulling away from Klaus' grip and walking away.
"Aren't you afraid that he will find you if you stay in one place for a long time?" Jackson, a friend of Hayley's, asked her. They were sitting outside a small cabin in the Bayou of New Orleans.
"The only one that knows where I am is Chase and he won't even dare to tell Klaus where I am." She replied, taking a sip of coffee. "Besides, if Klaus wanted to compel him, he wouldn't be able to, Chase and I have managed to find a way to become immune to their compulsion."
"Not even if Klaus tortured him?"
"Not even that. His loyalty lies with me and knowing where I am, is something that he would take to his grave." She stated as a matter of fact.
Jackson sighed as he shook his head. "I still think that you need some sort of protection. He is powerful and I've heard stories, Hayley." She turned to look at him.
"Stop worrying, I've barely been here a day." Her eyes trailed to the lake. "Besides, I bet he doesn't even know about what happened to his precious Caroline." She chuckled.
"Oh, he knows." Klaus stated as he approached them with his hands dangling on his back. "And that was not very nice, little wolf." Hayley began to breath heavily, standing up.
"How-how did you find me?" She questioned. Klaus grinned, showing his dimples.
"You see, I had to do a little digging to find where you were." He said. "I bumped into your friend, um, what was his name again?"
"Chase?" Jackson asked, his eyes began to get watery. Chase was a good friend of his until Klaus came and turned him into a hybrid. He turned to look at Hayley, they both shared a look before turning to look at Klaus again.
"Ah, yes, Chase." He replied. "Nice fellow, even though it took some persuasion..." Hayley gasped. "…he did finally tell me where you were, right before I pulled his heart out."
"You monster!" Hayley yelled, flashing towards Klaus in the attempt to punch him. He dodged her very easily, just moving to the side as he chuckled.
"You are quite pathetic, Hayley." He stated. "I sure did waste my time with you, but surely I will be happy ripping your heart out of your body." She looked up at him with hatred. She was not going down without a fight. She got up and then she punched him once before Klaus pushed her far away from him.
"Alex!" He called out.
"What? You are going to throw your son at me?" She questioned. "Now, look who's pathetic, Klaus."
Alex came out, dragging an unconscious Tyler behind him. "I believe this is yours." Alex added, laying him in front of him.
"Tyler!" She called out, wanting to go to him, but Klaus stopped her. "Let me go Klaus! Let me go!" She pounded on his chest as she cried. "Please…"
"Hayley, what makes you think I will be merciful with you when you weren't with Caroline." He stated, grabbing her by the neck. Jackson, terrified as he was, tried to help Caroline with no luck. Alex appeared in front of him.
"I think it's time for you to go to sleep mate." He stated before injecting him with wolfs bane. He quickly fainted; Alex took a hold of him, placing him on the ground, just making sure he was ok.
"You wanted me to become vulnerable, you wanted to kill the woman of my dreams- "He turned to look at his son. "-his mother! And you want for me to just stand here and do nothing of the matter?" Hayley struggled to breath. "I would like for you to feel the same way I felt when you made the attempt to kill Caroline."
"Wha-where am I?" Tyler asked, waking up as he touched his head. It was hurting like hell. He looked up to see Klaus strangling Hayley, and Alex, Caroline's son, standing right in front of him. "What is happening?"
"Ah, well it seems like the guest of honor has finally woken." Klaus stated, dropping Hayley in the process. He walked towards Tyler. "Hello Tyler, it has been sometime since we last saw each other."
"Go to hell." He spat. Klaus chuckled while shaking his head at him.
"You should be nicer to me, Tyler, your life is in my hands."
"Let him go Klaus!" Hayley commanded.
"Shut up!" Alex defended.
"Thank you, son." Klaus added before he grabbed Tyler by his neck. "Hayley, you should know better than to mess with my family." He stared into his eyes. "Now, listen to me mate, you will go to Hayley, plunge your hand into her chest and rip her hear out." He compelled. Hayley shook her head as more tears began to fall from her eyes. She could not believe what she was hearing.
"Tyler don't listen to him, please! Your love for me is stronger than this, please!" Hayley pleaded, looking at Tyler. He looked back at her with no emotion as Klaus let him go.
"This is where it ends for you." Alex commented. "You bit my mother, leaving her for dead and now you will pay."
"Now, mate." Klaus stated. Tyler walked towards Hayley, picking her up by the neck.
"Please, Tyler!" She choked. "You don't want to do this." He plunged his hand into her heart. "Ty- "
Tyler let a single tear fall from his eye before he pulled her heart out. As he watched her lifeless body fall to the ground, so did he. He was devastated and the worst part was that it was him the one who had killed her. His hand carried the heart of the woman he loved.
"Will you just let him deal with his pain?" Alex asked.
"Not at all." Klaus replied as he flashed towards him, sticking his hand in his chest.
"Dad!" He yelled. "Don't kill him too."
"Alex, you don't understand. He was conspiring against me; making plans to kill you, your sister, and your mother. Do you really want this animal to walk this Earth? Having the ability to try and attempt to harm you again?" Alex kept quiet. "That is why I had him in chains and desiccating, son. Even though I was not with you, I still watched you and made sure you were all safe."
"You did?" He whispered.
"Of course, I did. Family above all." He recited. "Always and forever, even from far away." And then he pulled his heart out.
"We're here." Klaus announced as he pulled up in Caroline's drive way. Alex turned to look at his father.
"I'm sorry, I misjudged you." He started. "I was so angry at you, I never thought you actually kept an eye on us. I never thought you cared."
"I do care, Alexander, but throughout the years I just thought that being away from you all would be better for your safety." He replied. "That's what really mattered. I did not care if you hated me or if you ever wanted to see me again, all I wanted was for you, your sister and your mother to be safe."
"Thank you, father." Alex stated. "I do hope you come to visit us more often."
"I would very much like that too." Klaus said as he offered a genuine smile to his son. Alex smiled back before he got out of the car.
"Bye, dad." He waved as he closed the door. Klaus was just about to pull out of the drive way when he saw Caroline rush outside. She stood there in front of his car, staring at him with her eyes all watery.
"Hi." She greeted with a smile. Klaus turned the ignition off, climbing out of his car.
"Hi, love." He replied, feeling nervous for the very first time in 100 years. He stepped closer to her.
"Hi." She stated again, staring into his eyes. Klaus wouldn't dare to look away, he would hold her stare for all eternity if he had to.
"I brought Alex all in one piece, just like I thought you would like." Caroline giggled, dropping her gaze as she pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear.
"Thank you for that. I really do appreciate it." She replied. She looked up at him again.
"You're welcome, sweetheart. I think I should be off now." He then stated. He looked behind her, waving good-bye to his son before he turned away.
"Nik?" Caroline called out. He turned around to look at her, he never thought he would hear her call him like that again.
She walked towards him, closing the space between them. "I love you." She whispered before she captured his lips. It was a tender and sweet kiss that they shared. It had been so long that it felt like they were sharing their very first kiss.
"It was about time." Emily said while smirking.
"Shut up." Alex chastised, hating that she ruined the moment. Klaus and Caroline pulled apart, turning to look at the whole family watching them.
"Wow, we have an audience." Caroline commented while giggling.
"That we do." Klaus added before he pushed her chin up. "I love you too." And then he kissed her. One thing was for sure and that was that he was never letting her go again.
