I own nothing!
Grant was released from the hospital on a Tuesday. A nurse helped him get dressed in clothes that Coulson had dropped off and wheeled up to the front of the hospital. Skye was leaning against the hood of a black SHIELD issued car with her arms crossed over her chest. She had on a pair of faded skinny jeans, a purple v-neck and black combat boots. Her hair was pulled into a messy ponytail and there was a small smile on her lips.
She walked toward him and helped out of the wheel chair careful not to move the arm held in the sling. Grant wrapped his good arm around her shoulder and she snaked one arm around his waist supporting his weight as he limped toward the car. With a little bit of a struggle, he sat in the passenger side of the car and Skye closed it gently behind him.
The nurse handed Skye Grant's duffle bag and with a grateful smile, she tossed it into the back seat. She climbed into the driver's side of the car and turned her keys in the ignition. The engine rumbled to life and she pulled out of the parking lot.
"Sweet ride," Ward said looking over at Skye.
"Thanks," Skye replied. "It's Coulson's new car. He named it Lily."
Grant chuckled closing his eyes. His laughter caught in his throat and he winced as he started sputtering into a coughing fit. Skye handed him a water bottle her brow knitting together with concern.
"You okay?" She asked after he caught his breath.
"Yeah," Grant gasped breathlessly. "It just kinda hurts….everywhere."
"Well, lucky for you we are on the way to pick up your macho-man pain meds," Skye teased turning into the parking lot of the drug store. Skye parked the car and pulled the keys out of the ignition. She reached into the duffle bag in the back seat and pulled out a leather wallet. "You are now Garrett Smith and I'm Sarah. We are married and you broke your collar bone in a biking accident. Any questions?"
"Nope," Grant said taking the wallet in his good hand. He pocketed the wallet as he climbed out of the car. Skye met him on his side of the car and put her arm around his waist leaning into him. Grant put his arm around her shoulders as they approached the door.
Skye pulled the door open and the bell hanging above their heads jangled. The pharmacist at the counter with a name tag that said 'Kira' gave them a cheery smile, but Skye saw the way she looked at Grant a little longer than she needed to. It made her blood boil.
"We have a prescription for Smith," Skye said trying to hide the fact that she wanted to pull the gun out of her waistband and press it to the dumb blonde's skull. It wasn't like she wanted to shoot her or anything, just scare the crap out of her.
"Garrett?" The woman asked smiling a little wider if that was even possible as she typed something into the computer. Skye imagined what Kira's oh-so peppy smile would look like if she knocked a couple of those bleached white teeth out.
"That's me," Grant said squeezing Skye's shoulder.
"Wow," Kira said. "That's quite the injury, what did you do?"
"Bike crash," Grant said.
"Ouch," Kira said. "Well, I hope you feel better."
"Thanks," Grant replied swiping the card in the machine and signing the little screen.
Skye snatched the little paper bag out of the girls hands and she could hear the pills shaking around in the bottle. "Have a nice day," Skye hissed bitterly.
She practically dragged Grant out of the drug store. Grant could hear her muttering quietly under her breath and he smiled hearing her whisper all that nonsense. They climbed back into the car and Skye started it sighing exasperatedly.
"Can you believe her?" Skye whispered. "I mean, she was practically undressing you with her eyes."
"Are you jealous?" Grant asked incredulously.
"What? No!" Skye sputtered.
Grant took that opportunity to lean over and catch her off guard. He slipped his hand into her hair and pressed his lips against hers. Grant could feel her whole body tense up for a moment before she relaxed into the kiss.
She responded by putting her small hands against his chest. Skye pulled away breathlessly suddenly aware of what she had done. She kissed a traitor. She yanked her whole body out of his grasp and buckled her seatbelt. Without saying a word to Grant, she pulled out of the parking lot and onto the main road.
An awkward silence fell upon the two of them as she drove back to the Bus. Grant leaned against the door of the car pinching the bridge of his nose and huffing. Once again, he had screwed up.
"Skye," he pleaded.
"Just forget that ever happened," Skye replied her voice rough. She stared straight ahead at the road with a blank expression. Her entire body showed no emotion and her eyes held a stone cold gaze that rivaled May's. The only telltale sign that she in fact felt anything was the way her hands were wrapped so tightly around the steering wheel that her knuckles had turned white.
"Skye," Grant repeated.
"We can't do this, Grant," Skye said looking over at him.
"Why not, Skye?" Grant asked. "Why can't we do this?"
"Because- because we just can't," Skye sighed she pulled up into the cargo hold of the Bus. She pulled the keys out of the ignition and slammed the door shut.
"What's wrong with her?" Fitz asked walking down the stairs. He had just run into a very angry looking Skye on the way down.
"I, um, I kissed her," Grant sighed leaning against the hood of the car.
"You what?" Fitz asked.
"I kissed her," Grant said.
"Why the hell would you go and do that?" Fitz demanded.
"There was this girl at the drug store who was flirting with me and Skye got really jealous. She freaked out and she kinda scrunched her nose up and got this crease on her forehead. I don't know, I guess I couldn't help myself."
"Well what are you going to do now?"
"I don't know."
"You need to figure it out," Fitz said. "Because you've been reinstated."
"I've what?"
"You're a full functioning SHIELD agent as of this morning. Well, mostly functioning," Leo added gesturing to his injured arm.
Not my best, I know, but still tell me what you think!
Love,
Kaylie
