Blue and Hazel

An: I don't own Artemis Fowl.

Eleven.

A white hot rage surged through Opal's body as she stared at the now dark portable view screen on the desk. She couldn't believe what she just learned. She arose from her desk slowly before turning to her a jar door. The heavy foot falls of her feet resonated through the entire mansion. She had to find Artemis. When she reached the mud boy's door her rage was simmering but still very strong. She pushed the door open without any announcement.

Sitting comfortably at the desk before her was Artemis Fowl the second. He casually glanced up from his novel to get a good look at her. How could he be so calm when he was in danger? Before she exploded she reeled in her emotions quickly. One of the many things she had learned from her past experiences was the negative affect anger has on the mind. It wouldn't benefit her to lose control. She would be calm and asses exactly how she would deliver the ultimate consequence to Artemis's actions.

"Good day," he replied comfortably as he thumbed through another page of his book.

She stood for a few seconds. Her anger renewed as she watched him casually read before her. How dare he look so disinterested? He was always attentive when she arrived. A split second she felt hurt by his behavior. The trust she put upon the mud boy was something she never done before. How could he throw it away like this? No matter her plan had to progress and after delivering a proper thrashing to the boy she would continue on. He would soon see the error of his ways.

"Opal, dear, did you think I wouldn't find out?" he asked with a tiny smile upon his lips.

The rage simmering within her cooled to confusion as she watched him set his book down. He set his blue eyes on her person. Actually one blue eye and another hazel glanced at her carefully. She watched his chair lean back slowly as he crossed one leg over the other.

"Come now, I am smarter than that," Artemis smirked he retrieved an item from a drawer. "I'm very observant."

Her eyes focused in on the item in his hands. "Do not be alarmed. The plan will continue but there will be a change. I am certain you can understand that."

"Excuse you?" she glowered after getting over her initial shock and confusion.

"We can't pretend any longer, Opal," he grinned slightly amused. "I was wondering why I felt so uncertain of myself. Why I have had unbearable migraines. It turns out you were putting a little spell on me. No matter. I must say you are quite fortunate that I still wish to partner with you. Wouldn't it have been a shame if I didn't? I may have chosen to get violent and believe me, I've learned how."

Opal narrowed her eyes at the male. "You seem confident for someone that I know is about to face my wrath."

"Wrath?" he glared. "I may have been worried before but now I've grown up. I have seen a lot more than you think. No you better hope you don't feel my wrath. "

Opal for the second time in her life was at a loss for words. The feeling was foreign but very real. She had assumed her plan was protected. All the variables were controlled. Her technology was flawless. She toiled over the lenses for months as she perfected the first level of her plan. Her magnification of the Mesmer was sound but yet here she stood staring a problem in the face.

"You could try to take back control," Artemis stated with a grin. "But I'm not as easy to tame without your precious technology. Oh, no need for such pent up frustration. I'm still on your side. There is just a transfer in power that is all."

Opal crossed her arms. "Why would I allow you power? I preferred our previous arrangement."

"I am sure you did," he stated as he arose from his chair. "After all I did everything you wanted me to."

He crossed the distance between them. Opal didn't flinch. If Artemis wished to harm her he would have looked more menacing. Even if he did wish to do so there were too many fairies on her side. She could have all of them here at the snap of her fingers. She stood her ground and stared Artemis in the eyes. When he reached her she was shocked at his soft fingers grasping her chin carefully.

"I was loyal," he remarked "I listened and I never asked the questions you didn't like. I was the perfect king to your queen."

Opal composed herself instantly. She narrowed her eyes at the elder. Artemis removed his fingers from her chin.

"How dare you," she whispered dangerously. "Mock me."

"You don't think I didn't notice?" he laughed. "How soft you were getting?"

"I was never soft," she retorted. "You are mistaken."

"No, you are mistaken if you thought this little fairytale would end just as you wished," he commented. "I'm sorry, Opal, I'm not a prince and you have no castle. If we are going to do this you are going to step down."

Opal smirked. "You are brave to speak to me freely."

"I'm Artemis Fowl," he stated casually. "I do whatever I like."

"We will agree to disagree," she commented. "I will leave and you should hope you don't find me in a mood later."

As she headed out of the guest room a frown painted across her features. It looked like her plans were evolving. She didn't like it at all.
