"Hi Bon Bon! Wow, this is gonna be huge!"
Bon Bon finished operating with her paper cone full of cream - she always used it to create different kinds of patterns for her confectionery - and only then turned around to see Dinky, Glimmer and Quote, who were bouncing with impatience, and only then Derpy, who entered the back room of the Golden Leaf Bakery rather warily, knowing that she could break or damage anything here if not careful.
"Hello everyone", Bon Bon beamed. She knew it better than any other high school student that creating happiness for a kid is simple - you just have to find the needed taste. Sometimes almost literally. The three children were the bright proof of this - despite their gender and race differences, they all were excited to be here. "Will you wait for a while? I'm in the middle of a process, and I'd better finish it before I forget everything".
"O-okay, Bon Bon", Glimmer replied.
"Mind if we watch you?" Derpy asked.
"Fine. You can watch, but don't interfere, please".
The three kids were hardly staying patient while Bon Bon was finishing her work. Only when the last cupcake was decorated with swirls and twirls, she rubbed the sweat off her forehead and turned to them:
"Now you can ask questions".
"What was that? Octavia would've envied your concentration", Derpy noticed.
"Nothing. Just my entry for the culinary competition". Bon Bon moved her hand over the row of neatly decorated cupcakes, each of which had a different pattern. "I've got some spoilt ones. Wanna try?"
"YES!" Glimmer, Quote and Dinky shrieked.
Derpy let out a delighted "mmmm..." upon the thought of cupcakes. Or muffins, or whatever they are called?.. Yes, Bon Bon was lucky. She had found her talent and was using it in full measure... Derpy's sugared thoughts were gone when she heard Bon Bon's voice again:
"No-no-no-no! No magic here, you two!"
Glimmer's and Dinky's mage's bumps gave up glittering with greyish green and dark golden light correspondingly, and Quote made a nervous swallow. Afraid to let his own uncontrolled powers out, Derpy guessed.
"But why no magic?" Dinky asked.
"First rule of cooking is that everyone, including mages, takes and operates things with fingerrrrrrrs!" Bon Bon started. "You may think it's a trifle, but no. It's like one extra pinch of salt or a speck of pepper".
"Tricky always uses magic when cooking", Glimmer objected.
"I may be too picky, but magic is not as reliable as fingers when cooking", Bon Bon pointed out.
"Whether do you know? You're not a mage to judge us!" Dinky shot out. Yes, Bon Bon's forehead under her pink and blue curls was perfectly smooth, but this didn't bother her at all.
"I'm not judging you. I mean... you always know what to expect from your fingers, and magic can be a tiny bit too unreliable..." This was muffled, because she was digging in the fridge. "Anyway, here's a riddle for you. These cupcakes have unique patterns. Where did I get them?"
All three kids decided to use different approaches: Quote began muttering something, Glimmer examined each and every cake in the row, and Dinky smelled them. No way. With such rainbow of colors and smells (and tastes too - Bon Bon didn't like duplicating her creations) this is going to be difficult. But no. Glimmer was the first to spot a hint:
"That twirly thing is striped like Tricky's scarf!"
He pointed at the cupcake with a decoration which looked much like a carelessly tossed thick thread on the top. If you had some imagination, it could be taken as a stripy scarf.
"You're right". Bon Bon put a full plate of "spoilt" cupcakes on the table and started fixing the teapot.
"And those are just like frills on Dandy's shirts!" Quote noticed, having seen the white "petals" on another cupcake. "You took our bros as an example?"
"Not only them. Look". Bon Bon pointed at the one with orange icing, weird triangular symbol on its top and with sparkles. "That's Gingersnap. See? And my school pallies too. Octavia, Lyra, Vinyl and Derpy". These were of such colors and patterns correspondingly: grey with treble clef, turquoise with ancient harp, pale yellow with double musical note and pale grey with bubbles. "There are more as well. Star Shock, Skyfall, Thistles, Killershot, Golden Leaf..."
"Who's Golden Leaf?" Dinky wondered.
"This is me!"
This was said by a very pretty girl in a flower print blue dress and black jacket over it, who entered the kitchen. She was an ordinary as well - fine smooth forehead framed by locks of straight dark hair and no "extra weight" on the back.
"Wow, Bon Bon, you're the master of confectionery!" she exclaimed.
"By the way, about Masters", Quote put in. "You included them?"
Bon Bon gestured at the group of cupcakes aside from the rest:
"Honestly, I did it because I respect Sparkler and feel pity for Red..."
After some time the group was already munching on the "spoilt" creations of Bon Bon, though it wasn't clear what made them "spoilt". They tasted nicely, and their decorations were as pretty as the "final versions'", but... That must be her professional look, Derpy thought. No crossed eyes here.
"What's up, Glimmer?" Golden Leaf was the first to see that Glimmer stopped eating after having taken one bite from the first version of Killershot's cake - beige with a 3-D atom bomb explosion model on the top, edible as well. Now he was just sitting, toying with his almost full tea cup.
"Nothing, Miss Leaf", Glimmer replied. "Bon Bon, can I ask you about something?"
"Yes, definitely".
"Can you add two more cupcakes to the collection?"
Bon Bon's blue eyebrows arched.
"I just... don't wanna make anybody offended or left behind", Glimmer confessed. "Okay?"
"All right, I'll do what you ask. What should they be like?"
"One just like this", Glimmer pointed at Time's cake, brown with pale blue pinstripes and the sugar model mixture of pen and laser gun across it, "but make it indigo. And the other... emmm... use golden and brown, and a bit of grey".
"Mind if I ask you who you want me to mention this way?"
"Secret!" Glimmer grinned.
