Chapter 11 - Reunion

Bella's POV

I wasn't asleep nor awake. I couldn't see anything but the sounds of voices were coming through loud and clear.

"When is she going to wake up?" A familiar female voice demanded, concern evident in her voice. "What if she doesn't wake up at all, how hard did you hit her?"

I was getting more frightened by the minute even in this state between consciousness and unconsciousness. Who were these people and what did they want with me? I must have the worst luck in the world. Vampires just never leave me alone, whether they're human loving animal drinkers, sadistic nomads, or rulers, I just never seem to be able to catch a break with these people. And if its not Vampires then its werewolves. Jake is my best friend and even though he has a beating heart he is still part of the supernatural world.

"I know how to hit someone, Rose." An equally familiar voice responded although this one was clearly male. "She will wake when she is ready, she needs to rest."

I knew that name and instantly I recognised the first voice. "Rose?" I croaked, my throat was dry and scratchy.

A soft, cold hand slid into my own and I heard her speak again. "I'm here Bella," the vampire assured me. "Can you open your eyes.

I cracked my eyes open and the light burnt. I had to blink a few times before it would settle, thankfully it was fairly dark.

"Don't try to sit up," Rose warned before holding a water bottle to my lips. "Drink," she instructed and I drank greedily. "I'm sorry we had to kidnap you like that, but we were rather short on time." She explained, not making a whole lot of sense.

I gulped down the cool liquid that felt like liquid heaven in my throat which felt as dry as a desert. "Why were you in a hurry?" I asked them once I had had my fill of the water.

"Caius was after you," Rose explained, "we had to move quickly. He still is but we are far enough away that he wont find us for a while. We will have to move on soon though."

"How long have I been out?" I asked her, placing a hand over my throbbing head.

"A few days," Rose spoke and my eyes widened. "Don't touch that you'll make in bleed again," she insisted, pulling my hand away from my face.

"A few days?" I asked in shock. "But what about... I have to go with the Volturi." I told Rose who shook her head.

"We wont let them take you." Jasper insisted and I sat up slowly to look at him.

My head spun slightly but I was alright. Jasper was standing against the opposite wall, although there was not much room in here to begin with. In the shadows I could just barely make out the colour of his eyes.

RED!

His eyes were red!

"It's okay," Rose assured me but I just looked at him uncertainly.

"I didn't kill anyone," Jasper assured me and I gave him the benefit of the doubt. "Being on animal blood only makes the hunger stronger because it is not what we are supposed to drink. Resisting your blood is hard enough without an increased hunger." He explained and I nodded, slowly so the throbbing didn't worsen.

Jasper opened the little fridge next to him and I saw a stack of blood bags on the bottom shelf. "I didn't kill anyone," he assured me again and I nodded.

"I believed you before," I assured the vampire in turn.

Jasper smiled pleasantly at me and reached into the mini-fridge. Is he going to drink that right now? In front of me? I thought in shock, nauseous at the thought of the blood but he tossed me a pear. "Eat." Jasper instructed and although I felt awful I suddenly realised I was ravenous.

I bit into the pear and moaned as it's juice entered my mouth. I heard a chuckle and glared at both vampires while I continued eating my pear.

"Come on Rose," Jasper insisted. "We'd best go feed the human." They were about to leave when I called out.

"Wait," they both stopped and turned to face me. "Why are you protecting me?" I had to know. "What does the Volturi want with me?"

They both paused a moment. "You don't know?" Rose finally asked and I shook my head.

"Caius wants you as his mate." Jasper told me and all the pieces fell into place to make a terrifying picture. "We wont let that happen," Jasper assured me.

The only thing I didn't understand was, "why?"

Rose shrugged. "Who knows why those madmen do anything?" And with that they stepped into the passenger seat of the portable home, so that's why it's so small.
