Chapter Eleven
*Lily's POV*
I sighed as I slipped the old black leather jacket my mom got me over my red t-shirt. She apparently dug it up in her closet from the late 70s. The old thing suits me pretty nice and I like the fit. My mom and I are pretty much the same size so that's probably why. I just happen to be an inch smaller than her at 5'8. Anyway to top it all off, it's vintage.
From there I slip into my dark skinny jeans and black boots, and I'm all ready to go to school. It's been about week since the Peterson's arrived and things have gotten interesting? I don't know how to describe it, but...I don't trust them.
I sighed as I headed towards my brother's room. Aidan is still asleep so I start to pound on his door since the boy can't wake himself up for beans.
"What?" he asked groggily. I open up his door to find him sleeping on the top bunk. His arm was thrown over the edge along with the rest of his limbs as he snored away.
"It's time for school dufus," I said to him, throwing a nearby pillow at his head.
"Ow! Abuse!"
"Whatever, just get up and ready. I don't want to be late," I scolded at him as I make my way out of the room. "By the way, I think Grandma is making us pancakes today for breakfast!"
"Tell Granny Esme that I'll be there in under a minute," Aidan announced as he scurried out of his bed and towards his closet.
"Okay!" I chuckled as I headed downstairs towards Grandma and Grandpa's house through our backdoor. It's normally the town house we all meet up in during the morning for breakfast. Anyway both my parents left this morning for a day off so no one will be home. They were going to some car show in Pennsylvania for the day.
I honestly can't wait to be their age, or at least older than I am now, and just go out on dates with my mate. I don't know who is mine will be yet, but I'm sure he's going to be my missing puzzle piece, just like how everyone else describes their relationships with their mates.
I head into the main town house to find Ethan at the stove, cooking an egg. I smirk to myself as I head over to him.
Ethan and I have gotten closer over the past few days due to the fact we aren't big fans of the Peterson's and Masen is forcing us to stay close to one another. My cousin really does not like the Peterson's, and, as I said before, I personally don't trust them. I don't hate them, I just wouldn't trust them. Maybe Jenny since she seems nice and is my brother's new found friend, but Nahuel has some stink about him that makes me not like him. Especially that blonde chick Serena. Who is she? To come all over my territory and control everything.
Since Serena's arrived she's been trying to make her way up as the Queen Bee in the school. She flirts with all the boys and is slowly becoming BFF's with Madeline Terrance, my least favorite person in this whole entire school. I can totally tell that Serena is trying to start trouble because she's so obvious about it. Same goes for Maysun, her sister/groupie. Little Miss May says everything Serena tells her and it makes me sick. At least I don't have Carly bitch around for me. I treat her like a human and like my friend since she's one of the first friends I've ever made.
"Whatcha doing?" I asked out loud, slowly walking over to Ethan. This caused him to jump as he stared at me with wide eyes.
"Woah. Damn it, Lily. You scared me," he said as he went to turn back to cooking the egg.
"Good." I chuckled as I came closer to him. "Who are you making the egg for?"
"It's actually for you," He muttered under his breath. "I'm in charge of cooking today for you, Aidan, and Nessie. Then I have to go heat Lizzy's stupid blood bottle up. I love her like my very own little sister, but she is very picky when it comes to her blood."
"I heard that Ethan." We look to see a frowning Lizzy come into the room. Her hair was up half way and she was dressed in a blue sweater and jeans.
"Oh hey there almost birthday princess," I said to my cousin as I go to lift her up in the air in a hug. "How does it feel to be almost be four?"
"Interesting, thank you. Now put me down," She said, chuckling. I roll my eyes as I go to place her down on the floor.
I'm glad I don't have her growth rate, in fact I love my growth rate. Most hybrids grow according to how old their parents might have been, or their youngest parent. I know Gwen was about twenty or twenty two and Matt had to be in his twenties, so my growth has been much faster than Ness's growth. In fact, I feel like it's faster than Aidan's, but I could be wrong only because his immaturity makes him much younger than he is. So long story short, that's why I look like I'm fifteen and Ness looks only about sixteen years old.
"I heard that!" Lizzy remarked, referring to my inner thoughts. "I know my growth rate sucks! Don't need to rub it in my face!"
"Yeah well, may I remind you that you don't need to be listening in to my thoughts every five minutes," I said as she goes to sit down at the kitchen table.
"Hey! I can't help it! I was born this way, princess," She said, sticking her tongue out at me.
"Well don't I know that little Miss Brains," I said, ruffling her hair. She frowned as she went to go fix her hair.
"Hey, watch the hair Hale," She said, frowning at me. I could tell it was a mock frown because she was struggling not to smile.
"We're so weird." I sighed as I kissed the top of her head and danced my way back to Ethan.
"So why are you in charge today?" I asked him as I took a seat up on my grandparents marble countertop.
"Well your parents aren't around, Bella and Edward went on a hunt last night with Carlisle and Esme so they should be coming back later today while Alice and Jasper are busy with Abrianna. That kid is a handful for such a small little thing," He said, chuckling. "But they enjoy having her. I haven't seen either smile this much since she came into their lives."
"Yeah. I think Aunt Alice liked to have fun with us when we were kids, but I think with Abs she's getting the whole experience. You know, the maternal love and the fun," I said to him as I leant back a bit. "Somedays I can't wait to have a child of my own. You know, dress them up and love them. I use to pretend I was the mommy when I was little. Ness and I use to play house somedays," I mused, thinking back to the days when we use to do everything together. At the time it was just Ness, Aidan, and I.
"I think that's a nice outlook on life," He said as he began to swish the eggs in the pan back and forth, making the scrambled eggs.
"What about you? Do you want a future like that?" I asked Ethan softly. I watched as he paused for a minute and looked down at the eggs.
"I don't know...I don't even have a mate yet so why even think about it," He muttered softly.
"But if you could...Would you? Like do you want a life like that?" I asked him.
"I would, but with my luck and my history...I don't know if that'll be a good idea," He muttered under his breath.
"What do you mean?" I questioned, frowning at him. How could that be such a bad idea. Ethan is so kind and gentle, and handsome...How could someone not want to start a family with him?
"I mean...It seems like every family I've been involved in has ended up...Well..."
"Dead?" I said, filling in the blank for him with wide eyes. "That's not true. There's us."
"And that's also what I'm afraid of. Lily my kind-"
"Your kind is our family, may I remind you. Lizzy and Masen. Ethan, none of us are going anywhere. I want you to realize that," I said to him softly as he looked away from me. I frowned as I turned his face gently with the tips of my fingers. His head finally turned to face me in the eyes. I swear I could see a tint of sadness in his eyes, if that is possible. "We're never going to leave you or anyone else in this family...I for one won't allow it. The Cullen's stick together until the very end. You're never going to lose us or...even me."
He smiled softly as he goes to put a hand on my shoulder, "Thanks Lily."
I smile back as I then, without thinking, go to wrap my arms around him. It was a strange thought that came over me, but it looked like he needed one. Anyway when I hugged him, the smell of a musky pine scent and the fabric softener Grandma uses filled my nose. He smelt nice...Pull yourself together Lily!
He stiffens a bit and I freeze for a moment with a million thoughts rushing through my head as we touch. I got scared that I maybe offended him in some weird way, but I shake out the thoughts as I still hugged him. He doesn't resist as he hugs me as well.
Anyway, it's just a harmless hug. What wrong can it do? Ethan is my family and my friend now. It was okay as we both relaxed in the hug.
"What's with the hug fest?" Ethan and I both pull apart as we look to see Masen and Renesmee now standing in the middle of the kitchen with Seth and Jacob right behind them.
"We were um just..."
"I was fixing his tag," I replied swiftly as I pat Ethan on the back. "There we go. All tucked into your shirt, dude."
"Thank you Lily," He replied to me quickly. We both look at one another and chuckle a bit.
"Okay...Clearly you two are in good moods this morning..." Renesmee trailed off as she sat down next to her sister, grabbing a bowl of cereal since she only eats her dad's eggs. That kid is so picky when it comes to food.
I felt a blush creep onto my cheeks as I then remember Lizzy. I turn to her and she winks at me.
"Don't worry Lils, you're hug is safe with me," She told me via her mind with an eye roll.
"Thank you," I told her in my head. She smiled as Ethan then placed a bottle of blood in front of her. I then take a seat next to Renesmee and Masen as we begin to munch down on our eggs.
"I'm here!" Aidan yelled, ramming into the kitchen as he tried to buckle the belt around his waist. "Where are the pancakes?"
"There are none, I lied," I said to him, eating an egg. "Omelet?"
"Lily!" he growled at me as he almost let go of his loose pants, but thankfully he didn't.
"What?" I questioned, shrugging. "I said, and I quote: I think Grandma is making eggs. I didn't say it was a definite yes or anything. Anyway, I walked into the kitchen to find out Ethan is in charge."
"Ugh, whatever. It's too early in the morning for me to be fighting with you. I'll have an egg," He announced in a grumble as he took a plate of eggs and began to munch on them.
"Good morning everyone!" Aunt Alice sung as she came dancing into the room with Uncle Jasper right behind her. Abby was in sitting in her arms, wrapped up in a wool blanket that Grandma knitted for her.
"Hey Aunt Alice," Nessie said, greeting her first. "Hey Uncle Jazz, little Abby."
"Hello...Um not to rush any of you, but it's time to go. We're driving you guys, so come on," Aunt Alice said to us, jerking her head towards the front door.
"Alright, almost done!" Aidan cried out as he scarfed down his eggs. We all chuckle as we head towards the entrance, but Masen then stopped Ethan and I.
"Do you guys want to go somewhere tonight or this weekend because Ness is inviting over Grace tonight and then I have a feeling Nahuel might try to stop by and I don't want to see him."
"Fine." I sighed as I roll my eyes at him.
"What did you have in mind exactly? Playing stake out for the Peterson's or something because I can sense devious energy coming off of you," Ethan said, frowning at my cousin.
Somedays I forget Ethan's power. He happens to be an empath like my uncle, but more more accurate in ways. He can tell what you're thinking just by your mood and suck energy out of you like he did to those vampires that attacked us all those years ago. Ethan also happens to be a physical shield. When he uses it, he's pretty much in an inviable bubble. Combined his powers are pretty amazing, but I know it takes a lot of energy from him. When he used it to defend our family from Lorenzo, he was lying on the couch for a couple of hours in exhaustion.
"Well...Actually yes. We're going to be spies this weekend. Lily your in charge of black clothing and Ethan your in charge of the get away car," Masen said, smirking at us with a devious smile. I frowned as I shared a quick look with Ethan. Since when did Masen Cullen become sneaky?
"And if we say no?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Well...I'll tell Uncle Em and Aunt Rose about what happened to your flat screen back on the island. You and I both know that it wasn't Aidan who broke it while trying to practice his powers...And I have much much more."
"Wow. Masen Cullen gone devious just for a stake out. Alright, fine. We'll check them out. I don't know why we need to, but I'll go," I said.
"I'll go too," Ethan said quickly after I finished.
"Alright, thanks guys. Now come on, we're going to be late," He said as he motioned his head towards our aunt and uncle, who were too busy helping Aidan with something.
"Kay," I muttered as I then look at Ethan. He sends me a sheepish smile, causing me to blush as we head out the door towards Masen. Something tells me this weekend is going to be the weirdest weekend of our lives.
*Renesmee's POV*
It's been a week since Nahuel came to our school and he's become a very loyal friend to me. We have a few classes together in the afternoon and since then we've become closer. We normally walk with each other to a few classes and talk during periods of the day, so it's nice.
Lily and Masen still seem to find something uneasy about Nahuel, and it's kind of a pain in the butt since we can't invite him or Jen to our lunch table because those two won't allow it.
Aidan is having a blast though because Jen's become one of his new best friends. The two are chatting all the time and I think it's nice for Aide to have a friend in school considering he hasn't made too many friends. They seem to click well as friends, and I know Lisa has this hunch that they'll be cute together as a couple. But, as fair as I'm concerned they just want to stay friends. I can tell Aidan is a person that isn't ready for any romance yet, and neither does Jen. I think they both just need a friend.
Anyway, today is Friday once again and Grace will be coming over for the first time. I was so excited to have her over. I wanted a friend to come over since it's been awhile. I had Lisa and Bryan over the other day for a project we had in Spanish, but other than that, that's about it.
"You're really good at playing the piano," Nahuel said to me as he took a seat next to me on the bench. We were currently having a free period since our teacher wasn't here so I decided to work independently. Grace was currently working on an extra assignment while Jen and Aidan talked.
"Yeah, well my dad is pretty much the world's best piano player so some of his genes must have passed on to me with musical talent," I joked as I fiddled with the keys. "But it's my favorite instrument of all time. It's the one I'm probably the best at and the one I worked to make perfect. Lizzy's good at the piano too, but she also wondered more towards the violin as well. But Masen, my brother...He's just as amazing as my dad when it comes to music. Masen knows almost any type of instrument there is. He just doesn't like to show it off so he'll always be playing them in his room secretly or when he needs father-son bonding with my dad," I told Nahuel as I began to play the soft tune of Claire de Lune, the song that was one of the first I made sure was perfect. "What about you? How many instruments do you play?"
"Well when I was growing up I never really learned how to play many. My aunt did teach me a few of the traditional instruments from her and my mother's tribe, but over the years as I ventured out into civilization and met people, I learned a few things. The piano was always one of the more interesting," He said, touching the keys lightly.
"Some of my fondest memories with my dad, and even both of my parents in general, were when we use to sit around the piano and we would play songs. I always remember the first time I asked my dad to teach me how to play the piano. I was very little, and we started off easy but I think he knew that I wanted more of a challenge and taught me Claire de Lune," I said, thinking back on the memory fondly.
"It seems like you had a really nice childhood," He mused, looking at me with soft eyes.
"It was a good childhood," I agreed, nodding gently. "We had bumps along the way and it was very short, but my parents and family made sure I had the best of it. It's not going to be long anyway until I'm a 'full hybrid' adult...How about you? What was your childhood like?"
"Mine was fine. Not perfect, but fine. My aunt raised me and she did everything she could for me, but I've always felt guilty about my mother's death. It always tore me up inside, especially when my aunt would tell me about my mother...It wasn't until I met your family and learned that my father could've saved my mother, did I realize none of it was my fault. And for the past six years life has felt free for me. I've felt like a big burden was lifted off my shoulders," He said to me softly as he fiddled with some of the keys again, playing a soft tune. "And when my father died, I took my sisters in because I know that my father didn't let them have much contact with the outside world. He was abusive and controlling. Not many people saw that," He explained to me.
"Well, everything's better now. Right? The future is bright for you guys." I smiled at him. He smiled back softly as he then looked at the keys.
"So...On a much more maybe lighter note, what are you doing this weekend?" Nahuel asked me, turning the topics around. I could tell it was bothering him now, so I decided to go along so I wouldn't hurt my friend.
"I'm having friends over, and I might go out with Jake," I said as I brushed the piano keys with the tips of my fingers.
"That sounds nice. I have one question, and it is kind of personal," Nahuel said as he got up to lean against the piano. "Are you and Jacob, dating? Or whatever you call it nowadays?"
"Um.." I stuttered as I felt my face heat up. "I'm mean he's my best friend, and he was the only friend I had for a long time before one came into my life."
"Oh, I was just wondering. He seems like he has feelings for you," Nahuel said nonchalantly as he hit one of the keys.
"Jake? I mean he could, but he probably doesn't. We're um just friends," I concluded, trying to get off the topic. My head was ringing at just the thought of Jacob.
Could I be in love with Jake? He is my imprint, but are we truly meant to be?
"Are you okay? I feel like I may have upset you," Nahuel said, snapping me out of my train of thought.
"No, no, no. I'm just thinking. That's all," I tell him as I touch the fabric of my skirt. "Hey, I'm going to talk to Grace. I'll be right back."
"Okay," He said, looking rather upset. I give him a weak smile as I head towards Grace. The thought of Jake was still ringing in my head. Maybe I should just piece the signs together. The way I act around him, the way he acts around me, it just seem...It just seems like we'd be perfect together.
"Hey," I greeted Grace as she fiddled around with a guitar. I needed to get Jake and this whole topic off my mind right now. "Are you excited to come over?" I asked her, causing her to chuckle.
"Of course I am. I haven't left the house in weeks," She said to me, placing the guitar down. "Just to show you how much of a life I don't have."
"You have a life," I said, rolling my eyes. "You're coming over to my house!"
She chuckled as she leant back in the chair. "I guess I have one then."
I laughed as I nudged her playfully. "It'll be fun. I promise."
"Alright." She sighed, smiling at me.
The rest of the period seemed to go by pretty fast. Grace, Nahuel, and I ended up trying to work on some extra credit. I did notice Nahuel looking up at me once and awhile. Grace frowned at this, sharing a small look with me. I just couldn't figure these looks out, but they were confusing me.
Nahuel is just confusing to me as a person. He's sweet, funny, charming, cute, and just everything a girl would want in a guy. So many people have already come up to me in a short time and have asked if I liked him...He's my friend. I'm not sure if I wanted or was even ready for a relationship like that.
The bell finally rang and I felt as if a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders that day when I said goodbye to Nahuel. He is my friend. Nothing more and nothing less.
"Come on, I think Ethan might be driving us," I said to Grace as I brought her outside. I didn't see my father's Volvo but I saw Ethan waiting for us with his old van from the 90s. When he moved in with us he left some of his stuff at the Leonardo's, his deceased adopted family's home, so we helped him try to retrieve anything. One of those things included this old van that was his family's before they were killed. Ethan decided he'd fix it up and with some help from Aunt Rose, my father, Uncle Emmett, and even some from Jake, they were able to start it up.
I smiled seeing Lizzy just standing next to him. He was ruffling her hair while she frowned at him.
"Hey guys!" I greeted them. My dad probably wasn't driving us due to the fact they were probably coming home from a hunt now.
"What's up Ness?" Lizzy said as we headed into the car.
"Nothing much little sis," I replied, giggling as we all headed into the van. Grace sat next to Lizzy and I in the back while Aidan and Masen took the front. Lily got shotgun today, again, since she's become really close to Ethan over the past few days.
I could tell Grace seemed a bit nervous as we drove to my house, but soon enough we were there and she seemed to relax a bit.
When we got there Grace looked at our home in awe. "You guys...Live here?"
"Yep. It's our home," I said, smiling at her as we climbed out of the van. "Come on, let's show you around!" I sung, taking her hand in excitement as the others went to do their own thing.
I show her quickly around the house. I show her all of the downstairs and then briskly taking her to the upstairs. It was nice since no one was here yet and that meant I get private time with my friend for a bit. My parents are probably still stuck in traffic or something so they'll probably be home late and I know Jake went to some store to pick up some parts, so he might come whenever he finds the parts.
"Here's Masen's room," I said, pointing to the room covered in brick and guitars. "As you can tell, he's got a thing for music."
Grace chuckled. "Yeah, I've noticed. He's always humming songs by the Ramones in Biology."
I laughed as we walked down the hall together, "Yeah that's my brother. That's little Mase."
"Um excuse me sis," Masen's deep voice said, tapping me behind on the shoulder. "May I remind you who sings like crazy in the shower, as in you can be heard all throughout the house."
I rolled my eyes as I go to nudge him.
"But wait, wait a second. You know the Ramones?" Masen asked, pointing to Grace with a smirk playing on his face at the mention of one of his favorite band.
Grace huffed as she crossed her arms across her chest. "Of course. My dad raised me on rock. Blitzkrieg Bop is my favorite of theirs."
"No way, same. Have you heard of I don't know..Nirvana?"
"Oh please, who hasn't heard of Nirvana," Grace said, huffing. "How about Red Hot Chili Peppers? Led Zeppelin? Rolling Stones? Journey even, any of those a favorite of yours? I personally love Joan Jett as well."
"I've heard of all of them. I'm a pretty much inner die hard rocker. Don't look like one, but on the inside I am," Masen said, joking a bit. "My dad raised me on classical honestly, but as I got older I explored through some of his records and began to listen to rock. It drives- drove him crazy but ya know. I'm one of those teenagers."
"My mom doesn't like rock, but she didn't mind since it was how my dad and I bonded with one another." Grace laughed, thinking of a memory that could've caused her pain. "And I get what you mean, I'm not one for looking like a rocker but I am on the inside. Maybe it's some teenage thing too."
"It's okay. I mean everyone in our family has different tastes of music. I pretty much like everything, Lizzy's the same but kind of prefers classical since she's a little braniacs, Ethan's into I think country and 80s music, I don't know he's got a weird taste, Aidan's more so for rap, Lily loves country, I can tell my little um cousin Abby is very into pop songs like her mom, and then Ness here is like me as well," Masen explained to Grace.
"Nice. That was my family too. My mom loved the classic 80s music. Michael Jackson was her idol and my um brother he was really into anything too, but he loved rap for some reason. It annoyed my dad, but we always had a good joke about it," Grace said, chuckling.
I rolled my eyes as I watched the two flirt about music. They were clearly flirting. It wasn't that hard to see.
"Okay you two, Masen aren't you going bowling or something with Lily and Ethan," I said to him, frowning a bit.
"We're leaving in about an hour. We still got time, plus I have to tell m-Bella and Ed about where we're going," Masen said as he then slowly started to walk away. "Nice talking to you, Grace."
"Same." She smiled as I then led her into my room. I couldn't help mentally smile. I want the two together, but as selfish as this was, I wanted Grace time. It's the first time I have a friend over really for fun, like a normal kid.
"Wow your room is awesome," Grace said to me as we entered my room. She looked around slowly at the walls as she walked in with me.
"Oh thanks," I said as I took a seat on the bed. "My aunt did it for me. She knows what we like, but she likes to do these things. I don't know, it's her thing. But, it came out really nice."
"It did," Grace agreed as she sat down next to me. "It came out really elegant."
"Ness?" I heard Jacob call out. I guess he got home earlier than I thought.
"Oh, excuse me. It's Jake," I tell her. I blush as I go to open my bedroom door up to him just as he was about to knock, as if I knew he was going to come in.
"Hey." I smiled at him. Jacob was in his leather jacket and jeans. He was in a tight black t-shirt too that showed his abs and he was holding his black biker's helmet in his arms.
"Oh hey," He said, smiling. He then looked over towards Grace and smiled at her. She smiled back shyly and sent a wave. "You're Grace...Right?"
"Yeah. We met at the park," She said to him, waving again. "Nice to see you, again."
"You too," Jacob replied as he went to go focus his attention back at me.
"I just wanted to say hi and I see you have company, so I'll come back later," He said to me quickly. I could feel my smile drop a bit at the mention of his departure. He could stay, if he really wanted to...
"Um alright...I guess I'll see you later," I replied, my tone a little disappointed. He gave us both a nod as he then walked away.
"So..." Grace trailed off as Jacob left the area.
"So?" I questioned, quirking an eyebrow at her.
"Are you and Jacob...Are you two um dating by chance?" She asked, her tone a bit awkward. "Because it looks like you guys might be-"
"Oh, no Jake's just a um friend," I said, feeling the blush creep up on my cheeks. "A really good friend of mine."
"Ah...I've seen that look. The way you two look at one another," Grace said, sighing in content. "I've seen it in all the movies. You like him. As in you have feelings for him, strong ones too."
"I don't like him like that," I squeaked, hoping Jake wouldn't here anything.
"Well, I think you do." She smirked at me.
I sighed as I sat down on the bed with her. I made sure I could hear that Jake was far off somewhere in the house before I would speak. "I kind of...I don't know. I'm confused as to how I feel about him. He's always been my friend and a protector even...But for the longest time it feels like there's something more."
"I think there is. I know he's a bit older, but he looks like he really cares about you," Grace whispered to me with a reassuring tone. "Things will fall into place. I'm sure of it Ness."
"I know...Then there's Nahuel. I know he's just a friend, but why do I have the feeling he wants something more," I muttered to her.
"I think he does, hun. I've seen the way he looks at you too, but the way you look at him...I don't know. There's no chemistry," She told me softly. "But...I feel like Jacob loves you."
"He doesn't love me," I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest. I sighed a bit as I then thought about it...She could be right...But Love? Jacob love me? I don't know if he could. I know that imprinting means we were most likely meant to be together, but does he even want love?
"Like, maybe. But I...Did you ever know that something was suppose to happen, but you just weren't sure it was meant to be," I said to her, looking away as I leant on the bed.
"As in you and Jake...You think you were both meant to be?" She questioned.
"No...I mean yes...I don't know. I just feel like my brain is telling me he's just my friend, but my heart says something else."
"Ness, trust your heart on this one. It's like the universe wanted you two together, and I've only met the guy a few times. Call it a gut feeling," she teased with me, winking. "I can see it in his eyes too, that boy loves you. I'm betting that you two will end up together. I bet on it!"
"Oh hush, if you do I bet that you'll get with Masen," I said, huffing with a chuckle. "You two look at each other like you're the missing puzzle pieces to one another's lives."
Grace blushed a deep red as she flopped back on my bed. "Okay...Maybe I-"
"You like him!" I exclaimed giddily. "I knew it!"
"Well...We talk a bit in Biology...But I feel like he's gotten distant at times. I feel like he's scared of something. I don't know why but I can just feel that he's scared...It's strange," she murmured. "And this is probably strange for you since he is your brother."
"It's okay. Yeah, something's up with him, but then again my brother is the carbon copy of my dad practically and those two have weird ways when it comes to expressing love, well at least when it comes to liking a girl." I giggled, thinking about the story of how my parents met.
My dad is the biggest romantic though when it comes to my mom. Their love is something what I would like. Living for the other. I've always admired them so much for how passionate they are, even though it's a little gross to me since they are my parents, but it's true. That love is one that you can never let go of. I would like that...Hopefully, maybe, with Jacob if he is the one my heart wants. Right now it's telling me yes and I'm just scared that somehow this whole thing with Jake could end terribly wrong.
"So you think he likes me?" Grace asked in a whisper, blushing still.
"Oh, I know sweetie," I said, teasing with her. "I have a hunch, you were both made for one another. There, I said it!"
"I kind of figured." Grace giggled. "I don't know...We'll see how fate plays out. I'm not sure if I'm ready for love."
"Grace, I'm sure whatever hits us, especially love...It's going to be okay because we've got each other to back one another up." I smiled at her, causing her to smile back.
"It's nice to have you as a friend," Grace said softly.
"You're a nice one too," I replied.
Grace and I then decided to talk for a bit, which resulted into a long discussion. Basically it was like we were two friends who haven't seen one another for years as we spent almost two hours talking.
We were on the purple rug on my floor, looking through some magazines Aunt Rose got for me, Lily, and Lizzy. Lily read all of them and Lizzy could care less.
"I wish we didn't have to wear uniforms," Grace said, sighing as she looked at an outfit in a magazine. "I would love to just wear a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt to school somedays. Much more cozier than an itchy uniform."
"I would too, but I'm kind of glad we have uniforms. My aunt Alice is a tyrant when it comes to clothing. She loves to take control of our clothing since it's her thing, and I don't really care, but I honestly am not the biggest fan of dress up or really fancy things, so my sister normally sneaks us sweatshirts and any polyester wear," I tease with Grace.
"It's nice that your aunt does that for you, I haven't gone shopping with my mom in months," Grace said, looking through a page. "I normally find whatever's on the sales rack."
"I am grateful my aunt does it though since she doesn't need to," I pointed out. "And the only reason I don't stop her most of the time is because it's what makes her happy. So I'm happy when she's happy when she brings me a new top home or a new outfit she found in the mall for me with my aunt Rose. She has good taste anyway, I'm sure she'd love to take you shopping. She loves to take anyone she meets shopping," I said, giggling.
"Anyway since Abby, my new little cousin, came into our lives she's been pretty occupied with her the most when it comes to shopping. It's cute," I mused, smiling as I thought about my toddler cousin. Abby was still considered a baby, but she was getting close to that toddler stage. It isn't long before she starts to walk. She's about two months now and she's growing faster than I did.
"Where is the rest of your family, by the way?" Grace asked me curiously.
"Around here, somewhere," I said, getting up from the rug. "You want to see what Lizzy is up to. I think she's watching Abby and playing some game with her. I believe it's that time of the day when Seth and Aidan are playing video games together."
"Seth?" Grace asked, furrowing her eyebrows together. "Who's he? I think you've mentioned him before, but I was just wondering, if you don't mind."
"Oh no, it's not a big deal...Seth is um..Jacob's...Brother. Seth and Jacob moved in with us because he was really good friends with my sister and they needed a place to stay. Seth's also best friends with Aidan and um Lizzy."
"That's cool," Grace said, smiling softly. I then take her hand and lead her towards Lizzy's room. When we get there I looked to see my sister was reading a book to Abby.
Little Abby was in pigtails on the floor in front of Lizzy, clapping happily as Lizzy closed the book. Abby's a smart little thing who is very much like her mother in the sense she's always happy and spunky, yet I can tell she's going to be more calm and very smart like Uncle Jasper.
"Hey guys," I greeted them as I leant against the door frame. "What are you up to?"
"Oh, I was reading Abbs Little Women. Last time she made me read this piece of fairy pink cupcake literature," Lizzy said, rolling her eyes as she let her intellectual side come in. "This time I'm reading to her a good piece of writing. Not that garbage."
I smiled as I went to kiss her head and to sweep little Abby up in my arms, kissing her cheeks. "Well you two have fun. Make sure to lay the heavy off of her, she is a baby still Liz," I said, looking at my sister.
Lizzy rolled her eyes as she took Abby into her arms and let the small girl cling to her. "I will. We're going to play tea party now. God Nessie, you have so much faith in me." She giggled. I chuckled as I let the two head out of Lizzy's room.
"Your sister seems really smart for her age," Grace muttered, really surprised. "I know you said she was smart...But damn, she's really smart."
"Yeah, that's Liz. She's the brains of the family, Masen's the musician, and I'm not quite sure what I'd consider myself," I said, shrugging a bit.
"You don't need a place in your family, I mean you do, but..You know what I mean," Grace said to me, playing a small smile on her face. "Your their Ness. You seem like the one everyone looks up to, even Masen and I'm pretty sure he's older than you by a minute," Grace said to me, chuckling.
"Who told you he was older than me by a minute," I snorted. Masen, older than me?
"I don't know, that's what he told me during lunch when you were with Nahuel. That's when he was talking to me," Grace muttered. I rolled my eyes at that comment, even though I was slightly exploding inside. Grace and Masen were talking, that's a really good sign in my eyes.
"I'm actually older," I said, laughing. "He's lying because he has always hated that I'm older."
"Oh brothers." Grace giggled with me. "They're all like that."
I was going to show Grace to the rest of my family when I heard the door open downstairs followed by a; "We're home."
"They're here." I grinned eagerly, looking down the stairs to see my parents. I missed them, they were gone for a night and I wanted Grace to meet them too.
"Who's here?" Grace asked, frowning as I dragged her over to meet my parents.
"My sister and Edward. They were um away for a bit," I said to her. "But anyway, I really want you to meet them. The rest of my family are all somewhere too, I was going to introduce you to them."
"Oh okay, I'd love to meet them. I've seen Edward drive you to school all the time but never introduced myself fully," Grace said, shrugging as her shy nature took over.
"They'll like you, they're fine. Promise," I told her as we reached the bottom stairs. Lizzy beat me with Abby in saying hi to our parents. She was currently being held by my dad while my mom tickled Abby in her arms.
"Hey there, I can tell you guy missed us," My mom said, laughing.
"Hey guys," I said, smiling as I came over to wrap my arms around my mother first when she was done saying hello to Abby.
"How was your um trip?"
"It was great, we had fun," My mom said, kissing my cheek. I smiled as I then went to go wrap my arms around my dad.
"Hey Daddy," I placed into his head as I hugged him.
"Hey Princess," He muttered into my ear without Grace hearing. I then pull away from my dad and go over towards Grace. As I look towards her I notice she seems nervous about something.
"Grace, this is my elder sister Bella and her husband Edward," I told her as I motioned to my parents. "Guys, this is Grace."
"Nice to meet you," My mom said, smiling fondly at her as I brought Grace over. "Renesmee's said a lot about you."
"Yeah, so I've um heard," She replied a little shakily. I noticed my father then frown at her as she met my parents in the eyes. Lizzy was frowning as well as she then went to cling to my mother's side with Abby.
"You know what we are!" I heard a loud gasp echo throughout the home. I turn around to see Masen, Lily, and Ethan coming over from behind us. Masen had a strange look in his eyes as he came over to us with a loud growl.
"Masen!" I hissed at him.
"Masen," my father warned loudly as he frowned at him.
"You idiot! You just had to read my mind!" Lizzy then all of a sudden growled. "Ugh!"
"Well it's not my fault if I can penetrate your shield, plus how can you read her mind and not me!?" Masen said, snarling. "Does she even know Liz? Or are you making up fibs in your head!"
"Yes, god Masen! She knows! She knows everything!" Lizzy cried out. My dad nodded in agreement as he pushes Lizzy to the side behind him and my mom.
"I can read hers too...It's true son. Please calm down, look she does know and I need you to act rational about this," my dad said.
"What's going on..." My mother trailed off.
"I don't know, why don't you ask Ness! I swear to god, did you tell her anything!? Anything at all!?" Masen growled, stalking towards me. "I don't know how much she knows, but she had to learn from you. You know how much danger you probably just put her in!?"
"No, and what are you talking about!?" I snarled at him, almost letting my vampire side let loose in front of Grace.
"Stop it now, you idiot," Lily snapped at Masen as she pushed him back towards Ethan.
"Everyone, keep your cool," Ethan demanded, but then turned to my brother. "Especially you, Masen."
"Sorry if I got scared for the safety of someone!" Masen yelled.
"You don't even know what is going on in her mind, I do. You don't. You just know what I've gathered through my mind!" Lizzy snapped at him as she still clung to our mother's legs with Abby now hiding herself in my mother's arms.
"Well I read her mind through yours! It isn't that hard Elizabelle!" I looked to see everyone in the family seemed to come over now since they heard the yelling. Seth and Aidan were right behind the trio and Jacob was now at the top of the stairs.
"What the hell is going on?" Jacob demanded as he came to my side almost right away. He was glaring slightly at Masen, the one with the outburst.
"She knows what we are!" Masen said again, pointing at Grace. My eyes widen as I turn to Grace, who was clearly frightened now as she stood against our wall.
"Grace? What do you know?" I whispered, walking towards her. "Please tell me. I promise I won't hurt you, your my friend. I'd never do that," I said, trying to ease her. I could tell Ethan was having some effect on her, but it didn't look like a lot.
"It's okay Ness...I know your good...It's just...I know...I know that you're vampires."
