Merry Christmas, everyone! It's been some time since I wrote something and I am not quite sure that my writing skills are a bit rusty. This chapter is a test for me to help determine my weak points and I'm counting on you guys to point them out for me.

It took a half an hour for Chris to finally find a way up the chasm, finding himself into a cemetery. As he surveyed his surroundings his eyes rested on a pistol near a rotten corpse. The pistol looked like one he would find in the real world, except it had the barrel slightly longer. As soon as he touched it the Infernal Train's whistle rang throughout the whole graveyard and from the ground a Colossal Ruin rose. It gave a mighty roar and released its flame thrower at the dark visage. Chris backed considerably and started shooting at it. After ten shots the creature finally put its weapon away and revealed its weakest point, the dark entity attacked the Ruin merciless. The fight didn't last very long and Chris moved on to Dreary Theater. When he reached his destination he saw the fish-people coming out of the theater screaming in terror and he wasted no time on getting in. He saw Alice and the Carpenter arguing and Walrus on the stage eating the dancers. Taking out his pistol he shot the creature in the head in order to make sure it wouldn't interfere. The other two whipped their heads and gasped at his appearance. Chris gave them a small smile that expressed his ill intentions better than words. He walked slowly towards them and he noted with satisfaction the redhead impresario was about to piss himself.

"Uhm…I can explain…I had no choice and it was-"started the Carpenter, but he was interrupted by a hard punch to face, nearly breaking his jaw and pushed him down. Then Chris stomped on his chest hard bruising his ribs. The insane director cough in pain before he was yanked by the throat.

"I'm going to say this nicely only once: tell me everything you know about the Train," he growled

"I-I am not the enemy you seek…"

In one swift motion the dark Assassin grabbed the Carpenter's left arm and pulled with all his might until a sickening pop was heard. The Wonderlander started to howl in pain and Alice couldn't take it anymore. "Stop, you're killing him!" she yelled as he tried to pull his hand from the Carpenter.

Chris pushed her, making her fall. "I will kill him if he doesn't tell me something useful," he spat and Alice noticed to her horror that the young man's eyes were crimson red. "Once again: tell me everything about the train."

"C-Caterpillar…"

"Knows more than you? Then that would make you useless, wouldn't it?" he asked rhetorically and began applying pressure on the Carpenter's neck until another crack was heard and the redhead impresario was limb in the dark Assassin's grasp. He threw the body away like it was a dirty cloth and turned towards the dark haired girl. He noted with great pleasure that she was still in shock and her skin was even paler. "You know where this Caterpillar is, don't you? Of course you do, his your creation after all. Get up! Time to pay him a visit."

Before Alice could even reply, the sound of an all familiar whistle echoed around. Alice's expression was one of pure terror when she saw the train coming. Chris acted quickly and he grabbed her, moving out of the way. When he felt the ground shook he knew the Infernal Train crashed into the Theater and out of instinct he used his body to protect the black-haired girl. With everything shaking and crumbling the former Assassin tighten his grip on Alice and shut his eyes. The world became silent and he wondered for a minute if he died, but quickly dismissed the thought as he could feel pressure on his chest. Opening his eyes he found himself in a bedroom and Alice resting her head on his chest. When he realized they were both naked his heartbeat increased and he felt a strange sensation between his legs. The emerald green-eyed girl heard the beatings of a heart in her ears and she stirred from her dreamless sleep and the first thing she saw was the pair of wide black eyes staring at her.

It took her a second longer to react. "What the hell is the meaning of this?!" she yelled, feeling her face warm with embarrassment.

"I don't know, believe me! I'm in the same boat as you are!" said the young man below her, and she noticed with satisfaction that his face was also red.

The door opened and Nanny came in. "Oh, good. You're both awake."

"Where the hell am I?! And where are my clothes and weapons?!" asked the ex-Assassin angrily.

"Calm down. I brought you, the both of you after we escaped that inferno. Your clothes were wet and had to be dried. Unfortunately there was only a bed to spare, but from what I see this was not an issue," she said with an amused smirked and the two young people blushed hard. "I have brought your clothes and your weapons are on the table beside you. I'll leave you to change."

With that Alice and Chris started to dress without looking at each other. Chris took a moment to inspect his weapon to see if they needed repairs. 'Looks like she pulled a bit too hard on the hidden blades, the blade is not perpendicular with my arm, but nothing too serious. I'm surprised she didn't activate the release mechanism.' Once he was done he headed downstairs with Alice right behind him.

"Thank you for your help. I'm sorry, but I don't have enough money to repay you," he told Nanny when he saw here and gave her a small bow.

She just waved her hand. "Please there is no need for that. If fact, I can never repay for saving me and Alice. I was glad to help."

"Thank you once again," he said and walked towards the door when his left arm was grabbed. He turned and raised an eyebrow at Alice

"Where are you going?"

"I have some business to attend to."

"Can't it wait? We need to talk!" she said seriously.

He shook his head. "I'm afraid it can't, it's very urgent. We'll talk, I promise, but later," he said pulling down his hood and he exited Nanny's flat.

Alice signed and sit on the closest chair. 'Why does he always have to be so mysterious? I hate it so much when people refuse to tell me what is going on! I wish I could just enter their minds to find out what they are really thinking!'

"Alice, are you alright?" asked Nanny.

"Yes, don't worry Nanny. By the way, where is the brute that hit me Nanny?"

"In jail. The coppers got him a few hours ago."

'He got off easy.' "Nanny, I need to know about-"

"The damn fire? Look Alice, I don't know anything about it, Radcliffe wrote the Inquest Report. I can take you to him."

The emerald-green eyed girl signed. She didn't want to talk to her family lawyer because he stole her family's fortune and every time she did it ended in her learning half-truths and something boring about the Middle East. 'I can never understand Radcliffe's power. How does he makes even the most interesting subjects so boring? I swear, that man can cure insomnia. However I do need information. Maybe if I change the tactics, be more aggressive…' An image of Carpenter's arm being dislocated by the dark visage of former Assassin came to her mind and she shook her head in order to get rid of it. That's one thing she needed to talk with him. "Alright, but Mr. Radcliffe is useless."

"Don't I know it?"

Most of the ride to Radcliffe was spent in silence when Nanny suddenly asked "So who was that delicious young man? Seems to me like you two know each other."

Alice tried to keep herself from blushing. "He's just a friend who helped out one time and I haven't had the opportunity to thank him," she said, half-lying

"Then why didn't you do it twenty minutes ago? Oh, Alice you're such a bad liar! Is he your lover?"

This time the black-haired girl's face turned crimson red. "Nanny! There is nothing going on between me and Chris!" she exclaimed while glaring at the older woman.

"So does that mean he is free?" asked Nanny with a strange glint in her eye, making Alice glare harder at her. Nanny laughed at the young woman's reaction. "Oh, relax dear! I'm just messing with you," she said, but Alice wasn't too sure about that. "Anyway, we've arrived. Go and talk to Radcliff, I'll wait here."

Ten minutes later the police arrived and entered the lawyer's house. Nanny visibly paled. 'Oh, God. Don't tell me…' A minute later the older woman's fears came true when the police came out with Alice screaming her head off. 'Oh, God. This is very bad. I must find that guy, Chris,' she thought frantically when it suddenly crossed her mind that she didn't know where he was and so she was forced to turn towards her psychiatrist. 'Though I rather not. That man gives me the chills.' As she went to the orphanage with the carriage she spotted a group of people wearing robes similar to Chris's, the only difference was that they were gray. She couldn't help but wonder if they were connected to him. 'Maybe they are willing to help,' she thought hopefully. 'What am I thinking? I barely know the bloke and I could tell that Alice doesn't know him all too well. And what if those people aren't his friends? After all, someone like him is bound to have enemies. I should stick to the people I know are somewhat trustworthy, thought I have to admit Chris never gave me a weird feeling like Dr. Bumby.'

'Where are you going?' asked the voice in his head

'To Bumby's orphanage. I need to retrieve the journal so that I can have the leverage over him and get this link between me and Alice severed.'

'Now you're thinking,' came the reply with some pride in it.

Chris kept jumping from rooftop to rooftop. He could see the orphanage coming into view when his vision begun to blur.

'No! It's too soon!'

Fortunately for him a wagon full of hay was below him and before he blacked out he performed a Leap of Faith and landed safely in it.
