Grizz opened the door to his room and looked in. Toby was curled up on the bed, fast asleep. Good-he needed the extra sleep, especially after what happened last night. He quietly shut the door and went back into the kitchen where his brothers and Tabes were sitting at the table, the bears with a worried looks on their faces and Tabes who wore a pondering expression. After rescuing Toby and Grizz Tabes brought them to the ranger's station to check them over for any serious injuries (and thankfully there weren't any, except the memories that would forever be horrifically engraved inside Grizz and Toby's minds). When questioning about said events that happened that night, Panda, Ice, and Grizz told her about how Toby couldn't talk and they explained to her about his powers. Toby showed her his glowing claws and eyes as proof that what the bear brothers were saying wasn't made up. She starred at the cub in disbelief for a while before sending the bear's home for the night-telling them that she would come by in the morning to handle the situation. When Grizz asked what she meant by 'situation' she said she would explain it to them tomorrow.
Grizz couldn't sleep well that night. He kept wondering what 'situation' could mean. Was she talking about Toby's powers? Would she have Toby taken away to another animal shelter? Would she put him in the circus? Would she send him into OUTERSPACE!?
No! Tabes wasn't the kind of person who would shoot a bear cub into space. She wasn't like that. He was just getting himself so worked up that he wasn't thinking straight.
He down at the cub snuggled up against him. He didn't want him to leave. He'd just started to bond with him and his brothers. He had saved Grizz's life back at the shelter. They had just started to become friends-brothers even! There adventures were just beginning! It couldn't end now.
Holding him close, Grizz shut his eyes and tried to get some sleep. Whatever happens in the morning, Grizz was going to do everything he could to keep him safe.
So when Tabes had arrived that morning to discuss the situation, Grizz was a little nervous. She wasn't saying anything. Her elbows were propped up on the table as she leaned forward, her index fingers pressed together against her lips in a thinking manner. Finally she said, "After what happened last night and what you all told me about Toby and his powers, I've come to the conclusion that it would be best for Toby to stay at the rangers station."
The bear's faces lit up. "Really?" Grizz said, "You're not going to shoot him to the moon!?"
"What?"
"Never mind." Grizz threw his paws up into the air in triumph. "This is great! Toby stays! Hooray!"
Panda and Ice Bear also threw their hands up in the air. "Hooray!" They cheered.
"Ice Bear is happy for Toby." Ice Bear said.
It was at that time that Toby had heard all of the commotion and decided to get up and see what was going on. When he entered the kitchen he was immediately tossed up into the air and held up high like a trophy, cheering "Hooray!"
The poor cub was so surprised and confused that shouted as if to say, "What the heck is going on!?"
The bears set him down and Grizz said in an excited voice, "Guess what? You're not going to the moon! You're staying here with us!"
At first, Toby was confused by why Grizz had said he was going to the moon, but as soon as he heard the words, 'stay here' he stared at Grizz with a gaped mouth. Shock and joy was spread all over his face.
"I don't know what Grizz is talking about the moon," Panda said, "But Tabes is going to let you stay at the ranger's station."
"That's right." Tabes said, "Being with me will help you to adjust to being around other humans. I'll be able to help train your powers so that they're easier to control and maybe even, find a cure for them."
This was everything Toby could have hoped for and more. Help with his powers-even getting rid of them and going back to normal-it was too good to be true! But… he pointed to the bears and looked at Tabes sadly.
"What's wrong?" She asked him.
"I think he's sad that he won't be staying here with us." Panda said.
"Not a problem." Tabes told the sad cub. "My station isn't that far from their cave. You can visit them any time you want to."
Toby didn't know what to say. You know, if he could say anything. Even if he could talk, he didn't know how to thank these guys. They took him in and helped him, even though he was a bit of a handful at times. They saved and protected him from the bad people. And because of their help, he was never going to see the bad people again. And now, he could see them whenever he wanted because Tabes was going to help him control and even get rid of the pain that the bad people forced upon him. It was so much that the only thing he could do was smile and start to cry.
Grizz picked him up and gave him a big hug. The other two bears joined in and they were all now hugging and smiling. After a bit, Tabes took Toby from Grizz. "Common, let's go to the station and set up a living space for you."
Tabes, Toby, and the bears entered her truck and raced off towards the station. As Toby sat between Tabes and Grizz he thought all about the fun adventures that he was now going to have with his friends.
No-with his new family.
His new brothers.
Toby new deep down inside that his adventures with his bear brothers were just beginning.
Wow, what a ride!
First, I want to send a big shout out to everyone who's commented and liked and read this story! It makes me happy to see so many positive comments and it gives me the motivation I need to keep writing. To be honest, this story almost didn't happen. When I first posted this not many people were reading it so I got a bit discouraged-that and I didn't really know where this story was going at the time. But then I started getting favs and likes and comments and your positivity helped fight off the anxiety and depression that I'm struggling with and it helped me to keep writing and to finish this story and I'm so glad I did. I liked how it came out and I'm happy that this story has made people happy, too. That's why I made this fanfic page-to help people with my stories and let Jesus's light shine out of them.
This is NOT the end of Toby and the bears- no, no, no! I plan on writing a collection of stories that will have Toby meet/ interact with the other characters from the show (I know that a lot of you have been wanting me to do that). But here's the TWIST! Not only will I be coming up with the ideas for the stories-you can too! (I do take story/art requests) Do you have a story or idea that you want the characters from the show and Toby to go on? Well you can submit those ideas in the comments or by PM me and I'll write them AND give you full credit for said idea(when submitting story please make up fake name so I'm not always writing "guest" made this). My first two stories are requests from a guest, who wanted a Christmas story, and amtrak439 who wanted the bears to take pictures at the malls photo booth. And, yes, I'll have the picture on my DA page as soon as I can. I have a lot of other work I need to get done (around my home and I have other stories here that need to be updated).
Finally, I would REALLY APPRECIATE you guys and gals reading and reviewing some of my other stories I've written. They don't have as much attention as this one does, so, please, I encourage you to check them out. And if you don't like them, then please recommend them to someone who would like them. Thank you for taking the time to read this-have a good day/night!
