"What did you want to talk about Kira?" David absentmindedly kicked a rock down the sidewalk as he walked beside Kira. The sun had gone down, the other three were off prowling the rides, or whatever is was they did when not led by David.
Kira looked at the little knick knacks in the shop windows they passed. She didn't know exactly what she wanted to talk about, just that she had questions. She tried to gather her thoughts. "Why me David?" He raised an eyebrow slightly. Kira wasn't sure if he was genuinely confused or just pulling a face. "Why would you turn me"
He thought for a moment. Why had they tried to turn her? Sure she was cute in her own little way. But did Max have a motive? "It wasn't really my choice"
Kira pulled a face. "No offense or nothing" she mumbled jokingly and then smiled. "But whose was it then?"
"Hmm. It was a collective decision" he honestly had no idea what reason to give her. He had planned on her being dinner that first night. Especially after catching on to her 'business.' But then it felt as though she could belong with them. Max wasn't too happy at first, but it was his decision to turn her. David probably would have been fine misleading the slayers and then eventually sending them on their way. Maybe. Or maybe he would eat the brother. He shrugged to himself. Max had a plan, Better to not question it he guessed.
Kira gave him a small glare of doubt but let the answer stick. Then she went quiet, continuing to look at windows. She wanted to talk more, yeah. But David was the boss. The mean and grumpy one. She didn't feel as comfortable with him as the others. It was weird. With The other three vampires, Kira had no problem talking to them. Maybe it was David's leader of the pack attitude.
As if reading her thoughts, David tried to start conversation. "You know Kira. I just want you to be as strong as the rest of us" his voice took on a caring tone, like one you might hear from Dwayne. It was odd to her.
It was her turn to raise an eyebrow. "Strong?" She questioned.
He nodded. "You should know if you're a slayer. Heightened senses. Strength. Speed. Gliding even. None of which you can really do or control until you finally drink"
Kira rolled her eyes. 'This subject again. 'She should have known. "What if I don't want those? I didn't ask you to turn me"
"But I wanted to" 'I think' he added to himself. "And anyways, if you don't feed for too long you'll just snap. Maybe on those little comic nerds" David saw Kira's expression flash horror for a moment, and chuckled darkly to himself. "Or maybe die. I don't know. Haven't seen death happen yet." Kira looked through the crowd, her eyes searching for something she couldn't think of. "See. You're already hunting" he gave another small dark laugh.
She turned to stare at his chest. "How did you turn everyone else? Did they have a choice? How were you turned?" Kira asked him.
David hesitated before answering. "Maybe you should ask them"
Kira glared at someone who bumped past her before responding. "Then what about you?"
He was quiet again. "I had a date" David's eyes seemed to fog with nostalgia that Kira wouldn't have thought vampires had. "She was beautiful. Like living chocolate" he spoke quietly. And then changed the subject. "You liked the blood in the flask right? Human blood is the same" It was so strange to see menacing David like that, but then he was back to normal in a flash.
Kira opened her mouth to respond but was unable to speak when someone jumped on her back and she almost fell over. Thank god for vampire senses. Even if they were only half. She turned around, furious, until she saw the poof of thick blonde hair that was Paul. Kira punched his shoulder. "Way to go jerk" she pouted jokingly.
Paul stared at her for a minute and the other two walked up. "Damn Paul what did you do this time?" Marko laughed at him.
"Well she's still breathing aint she?" Paul responded and leaned on Marko, an arm around his shoulders. "Let's go find some rides" the two blondes lead the way down the boardwalk. Kira rolled her eyes but followed.
Creed admired Mary's dark hair as they walked side by side, following Debbie's lead down past booths selling things like leather jackets, piercings and hats. This area of the walk smelled like fried pastries and spilt pop. Creed was lost trying to figure out exactly what pastry he was smelling. It was almost like a brown sugar toast mixed with crepe? Something with powdered sugar and strawberries came to mind. He shook his head and continued following Debbie. "Where are we going?" He asked.
She giggled in response and turned to face him and Mary. "Everywhere and nowhere" she skipped backwards, bumping into someone while doing so. Creed recognized this someone as one of the leeches Kira had been hanging around. The one that wore black fishnet under his jacket all the time. The hatred from the vampires and Debbie's stare seemed tangible in the air. "Watch it!" The loud blonde female shouted. The vampire just blew her a kiss, waved his hand, and then continued walking with two of the other blood suckers. The leader was missing. Did that mean he and Kira were together somewhere?
"What was that about?" Creed asked Debbie.
She shrugged and changed the subject. "What are we doing anyway?"
"We could go see what's playing at the drive in? Or explore the rides?" Brandi suggested.
"I'm feeling up for a party" Mary spoke from beside Creed. Though she was quiet, her voice held dominance.
"That would be fun. Think Widow is hosting anything tonight?" Debbie asked.
Brandi glanced at Creed and then Mary. Creed just barely caught the look. "She always is" Mary laughed. "Should be fine" she said, taking Creeds arm. "You up for some fun?"
"I should really try to locate my sister or something tonight" Creed replied. "I haven't seen her for a bit"
"She's the one hanging with those..." Brandi stopped to think up a word. "Biker guys right?" She finished. Creed nodded. The girls once again shared a look.
"She's probably fine. She's been around them for what? A week? Two? And she's still alive" Debbie giggled when Mary finished talking, like there was some sort of inside joke.
"I guess you're right. Doesn't mean I can't worry though" Creed reluctantly agreed to go wherever the girls were going to drag him. "So who is Widow?"
"She's badass" Debbie responded as the small group walked forward, headed towards the boardwalk entrance. They didn't walk far, just down the road a ways to another spot along the beach. "This is Widows" Debbie said walking backwards again. Creed looked up at the large house, admiring the pillars and the molding around the windows. He felt uneasy looking at the place, and the people scattered around the area. It looked to be about two or three stories, with almost every inch of wall covered by windows. "Watcha think?"
"It looks nice" Creed looked at the dark water against the sand.
"Let's go" Mary lead them past the cars and bikes. Creed thought he saw a limo pulling away but wasn't sure. Bouncing the sand off their shoes on the stairs of the house, the group entered the building. There were very few males at the party, Creed noted. But there were plenty of different types of people. There were some women that looked like movie stars, and others that looked like street rats. Mary exchanged whispers with a fairly pretty girl who had chocolate hair and mint green eyes. The group of four was then directed to an empty room. It was decorated lavishly, with dark colors and low lighting. "Widows not available tonight sadly" Mary informed them as she flopped onto the couch in the room, the air from her flop causing the long dark curtains to wave.
"The drinks are though" Debbie happily watched the green eyed girl bring in glasses and a bottle of red wine. Mary filled all four glasses and waved the girl away. Creed sat down as cups were passed out. Creed sniffed at the glass he was handed. It looked and smelled like normal wine. When the girls were on maybe their fourth glass, Debbie laughed at him. "Don't be a wuss just drink it"
"I don't know, is there water maybe I could trade out?" Better safe than sorry in Creeds mind.
Mary slide closer to him, holding his hand in hers. She took a small drink and then she kissed him. Creed was taken by surprise, but he did like her, so he kissed her back. Though when he parted his lips, Mary revealed she had saved her last sip as she shared it with Creed. This surprised him more than the kiss itself, but as annoyed as he was about her not respecting his wishes to not drink alcohol, he felt happy with her. When the kiss was done, he forgot about caution. He just wanted to feel happy tonight, he decided. He picked up his own drink and took a sip or two, and then went back to kiss Mary, caressing her cheek and then running his hand through her hair. Debbie and Brandi cheered for a moment, before going to explore the house and leaving the two alone.
