[A/N: Look what finally got updated. Like with what happened with Dearly Beloved my muse for this story dried up and it's just now coming back. I really need to establish an update schedule of some kind with these stories so I can work on them and get my school work done too. The reason Phoebus isn't in this chapter is because I don't know where he is before The Hunchback of Notre Dame starts so that's why he isn't in this chapter. Reviews are appreciated. Enjoy the chapter!]

It looked like he'd arrived in a village of some kind. There were many thatched roofs going along a cobble stone street and not far off was a massive cathedral. "So, where am I now?"

La Cité des Cloches.

What?

The city of the bells.

Then why don't they just call it that?

Don't ask me.

Erik turned his gaze to the cathedral when he felt pawing at his leg. "What is it now, Chiyo?"

Chiyo whined and looked over towards another street were dancing could be heard.

"But I was going to go look in the cathedral we can look around the town later." Erik ignored Chiyo who continued to whine and began walking towards the cathedral.

It was even bigger up close and towered above the rest of the town. "I wonder who built this cathedral." He saw the doors open to let out a portly balding man wearing a long white robe.

The man smiled at Erik before stepping aside. "Have you come to pray?"

"Not exactly, but I wouldn't mind taking a look around." Erik slunk in past the man in white marveling up at all the stained glass that decorated the cathedral. "This is a pretty place I'll give it that much." As he walked through the halls of the cathedral he saw several people kneeling in prayer. "I wonder what they're praying about? It would be rude to ask wouldn't it?"

Puck flew off of Chiyo's back and went up to the one of the windows to better examine it. He twittered several times as though he enjoyed what he was seeing before he flew back down to his master's shoulder.

"See something you like, Puck?"

The wraith twittered again before pulling on a lock of Erik's hair.

"I'm afraid you can't eat my hair if that's what you're trying to do." He continued to walk towards a pulpit when he caught sight of a narrow winding stair case. "I guess it couldn't hurt to take a peep up there."

Chiyo got in front of him and began to trot up the stairs when a tall sinister looking man wearing dark robes began to make his way down. She sniffed at his foot and began to wag her tail.

The man glowered down at her and swept past. He was looking down his nose at Erik. "And what pray tell is an urchin such as yourself doing here?"

Urchin? That's a new one. Erik smiled up at the man and patted his leg to call Chiyo back to him. "I'm sorry if she offended you sir, but I was just looking around the cathedral and I'm wondering what's up those steps."

The man was still glaring at him. "That's none of your concern boy. If you want to pray then pray, but don't go up stairs." He swept past Erik ignoring that Chiyo was trying to pull him back.

Erik looked down at Chiyo then back at the man. "Do you think he would have made a good ally for Master Xehanort?"

Chiyo barked in agreement.

"Hey mister, do you think I could talk to you for a minute?"

The man was nearly half way across the cathedral by now, but stopped and turned back around. "Yes?"

Erik quickly walked the length of the cathedral and looked right up at him. "I have something I think you can help me with."

"Do you seek the path to enlightenment?"

"No, but…."

"Then I can't help you." The man began to walk away again.

"But we haven't even been introduced. I'm Erik and you are?"

"Judge Claude Frollo."

"Well Frollo my master has given me a job and I think you would be some of the best help there is."

Frollo raised an eyebrow like he didn't understand what Erik was talking about. "Go on…."

"My master has sent me to look for the hearts of the worlds and he also told me to look for allies for him for something else he didn't tell me what for."

Frollo still looked confused. "You say you don't know don't know what your master wants? Then I'm afraid I can't help you. If I don't know what I'm doing for this man then I don't know how to help him. Good day to you, Erik."

Chiyo trotted after him and grabbed the hem of his robe in her teeth.

Frollo looked back at Chiyo and tugged his robe from her teeth. "And keep filthy animal away from me. You're probably nothing more than a filthy gypsy rat anyway."

Erik watched him go and looked a bit disappointed that such a good prospect had gotten away. He waited until Frollo was out of ear shot before looking down at Chiyo. "He said not to go upstairs. Well, now I'm curious and I think I'm going to go look anyway. I think I could handle anything that could be dangerous."

As he went up the stairs Erik only heard the clicking of the wraith's nails on the floor. The area that he came up into was mostly surrounded by bells, but in the middle of the room was a table that was covered in small wooden figures. Erik picked up one of the figures that looked like it could be a baker and rolled it over in his hand. He heard a sneezing sound from behind him and looked back at one of the bells. He saw a pair of slightly knocked knees under it and walked towards the bell. "What are you doing hiding inside a bell?"

"Master says no one should see me." Judging from the way the voice sounded it was a boy with a severe lack of confidence.

"Come out I want to see your face."

"No."

"If you don't come out I'll pull you out."

Slowly the boy crawled out from under the bell. He was deformed just like Erik had thought with a bump over one eye and a hunched back.

"You don't look that bad. I could create worse then you."

The boy looked confused at this. "You make things too?"

"Yes, look at them." Erik gestured back at the wraiths. "I made them. Now what's your name?"

"Quasimodo…."

"That's a strange name. I won't tell you mine since I doubt we'll see each other again. Is your master Claude Frollo by chance?"

"Yes…."

"What does he have against gypsies?"

"They're evil."

"How are they evil?" Maybe I could convince some to side with me.

Quasimodo shrugged. "I don't know. They're just evil. I've never left this tower."

"So you just believe everything Frollo tells you is that the story?"

The younger boy's face flushed. "Of course I believe everything he tells me. Why would he lie?"

"I could feed you a whole line of bullshit then and you'd believe me, right?" Erik turned and started walking away. "Not that I'm interested in scaring little boys. I think I'll leave you know to whatever it was that you were doing."

Quasimodo hastily got up and tried to follow Erik down the steps hesitating when he got to the first one. "Wait, I'd like it if you stayed just a while longer."

"Sorry kid times a wasting and I haven't found one ally yet."

"I'll be your ally."

"I think you misunderstood me, Quasimodo. I need big strong intimidating people. You're short and awkward looking."

Quasimodo looked a little defeated when he heard this. "You could have just said no."

"That is what I said. It's a resounding no." Erik frowned at the downcast look on the crippled boy's face. "Well don't pout about it. Who knows maybe one day you'll be able to leave this tower and do whatever you want. I'm leaving now and I expect you to stop pouting, all right?"

"All right…."

Once Erik walked out of the cathedral he saw several people in brightly colored clothes running down the street with several soldiers in hot pursuit. "I wonder if those are the gypsies Frollo was talking about? I guess I could follow them and find out."

"Esmeralda, Esmeralda? Where did that girl get off to?" A tall man wearing purple with a goatee and a pierced ear was looking around the streets.

There were quiet giggles from around a corner.

Erik walked over to the ally and looked down it to see a small girl with a tanned face, green eyes, and thick curly black hair holding a goat in her lap. "I think your Father is looking for you."

The girl whom he guessed was Esmeralda stuck her tongue out at him. "Clopin isn't my Father."

"Well he's looking for you anyway." Erik turned and started to walk away when he saw Antonia slip off of Chiyo's back and slither back towards Esmeralda.

Instead of cowering at the sight of the wraith Esmeralda held her hand out for Antonia to slither up. "Is she your snake?"

"Yes….I don't know why she likes you normally she's very temperamental."

Esmeralda giggled as Antonia continued to slither up her arm.

"Antonia come back and leave her alone."

The wraith looked back at Erik rolling her eyes before slithering off Esmeralda's arm and going back to Erik.

Clopin the man from before was standing over Erik's shoulder smiling down at Esmeralda. "Ah, there you are Esmeralda. Why do you always hide?"

"So the soldiers won't find me."

"Well, I'm glad I found you."

Erik was about to take his leave when he heard Clopin's voice.

"Since you found Esmeralda for me why don't you come share a meal with us?"

And here I thought gypsies were evil. They can't be evil if they want to share food with me. "Yeah I guess…"

"And your name?"

"Erik…."

"Well Erik you have my sincerest thanks for helping me find Esmeralda." Clopin took Esmeralda by the hand and began to walk away.

I guess it couldn't hurt to follow them back to where ever it is that they live. Erik followed along behind listening to Esmeralda chatter away to Clopin.

They soon left the city and were entering a cemetery.

Clopin walked up to a particularly large mausoleum and pulled the doors open. "Ladies first."

Esmeralda quickly trotted down the steps followed the goat then by Clopin. She didn't hear Erik following and looked back at him. "Are you coming?"

"Yeah, I'll be there in a minute." There was something peculiar about the doors of the mausoleum that made Erik want to take a better look. He waited until the footsteps of Esmeralda and Clopin had become distant before with a bit of difficulty lifted the doors back on.

He hadn't noticed this before, but snuggled between the doors was the heart of the world. How could I have not seen this before? Well, I guess eating will have to wait now that I've found what I'm looking for. And I guess I'll have to tell Master Xehanort that I missed out on finding an ally for him. Erik summoned a dark portal and was about to step inside when a thought occurred to him. "I should leave them something to remember me by." With a flick of his wrist he summoned a pride elephant, envy monkey, and a handful of lust snakes.
