Adam read the text message over and over again.

"How can she know about us?" He asked, his voice shaken. Nick shrugged, nervous about Connie was going to do. He knew that his and Adams job was on the line. He held on to Adam and kissed the top of his head,

"She can't do anything to us Adam. She hasn't got the right. It's discrimination." He mumbled into his hair but Adam couldn't shake off the feeling that he and Nick would be forced to part ways. They got dressed in silence, trying to stay positive but all the while thinking about the consequences of their forbidden love.

At ED Nick and Adam saw that people were staring at them and Adam ducked his head in embarrassment while Nick snapped,

"What are you all staring at?!"

They all got back to work while Zoe and Max watched from nearby the commotion. Zoe knew that it was all going to be revealed sooner or later but she hadn't expected it to be to soon.

Nick went to his office and sat at his desk staring at a picture of him and Adam on his birthday. There was not anything intimate about it, they looked like friends. Nick sighed to himself as he looked at the photo however the moment was lost with the appearance of Connie in the doorway.

"What do you want?!" Nick said sharply and Connie grinned to herself.

"You've got no right to speak to me like that Mr Jordan. I would like to speak to you about Dr Trueman. How long has it been going?" She said and Nick raised his eyebrows.

"What has that got to do with you? I don't think anyone's sexuality affects work life, do you?"

Connie rolled her eyes,

"I think you'll find that it does. The patients will talk. We will lose patients. The ED will have a bad name if they knew two male doctors were cohabiting with each other." Connie snapped and Nick leaned back in his chair.

"I'm happy with Adam. I've never been this happy in a long time. I've been though a lot in recent years. You know that. But he's my light at the end of the tunnel." Nick snapped back, folding his arms over his chest. Connie felt very annoyed by the ignorance but she couldn't help but find admiration for the man whom she never got on with.

"Alright Nick. I understand that you've been through alot and I'm prepared to let this knowledge subside. But you need to think about whether your relationship is worth to upcoming criticism that you will face. It's him or the reputation of the hospital." And she left and her words kept echoing in his ears. She was making him choose between Adam and his job. He was torn.

While he loved Adam, his job meant a lot to him as it was a career he wanted ever since he was young. He didn't know what to do.

At the end of the day, Adam, who was surprised that Nick hadn't spoken to him all day, decided to stop by at his office. Nick was sat there, his head in his hands. Adam was worried now,

"Nick, what's wrong? What has she said?" He asked walking over and sitting on his desk. Nick shook his head,

"I dunno. She wants me to dump you and think about the hospital. She thinks our relationship is gonna spell disaster and that reputation of the hospital will be ruined. I don't know what to do." Nick said honestly and Adam felt upset and angry by this.

"So what your saying is you don't whether you want to be with me anymore?!" He shouted and Nick looked at him,

"That's not what I'm saying. But I need time to think that's all." He said calmly. Adam was so stunned by this admission that he stormed off, leaving Nick to be reduced to tears, knowing he had hurt Adam badly.
