The ending of the last chapter:
I overlooked a root and tripped. Groaning in pain I pulled my body up on my feet, just to see a tiny white something flying directly toward me.
My eyes widened. There was no time to dodge, no place to hide.
The bomb flew closer and I heard despite of the ringing in my ear Dediara yelling "Katsu!"
Chapter 11: Approaching evil
Just in the very last second something pulled me out of the way. I still was close to the bomb when it exploded though and the blow hit me freaking hard. I felt blood in my mouth, my body was numb from pain and I practically was deaf for a moment.
I was pulled out of the smoke screen by an invisible force and landed at the feet of a person. From my spot on the floor I could only see blue sandals and white socks and I pushed my body with my shaking arms into a kneeling position to stare up at my savior's face.
It was Sasori. The puppet master had connected me with his chakra strings to pull me away before the bomb would have hit me. Now he was staring into the sky and as I followed his gaze I saw the white bird of Deidara landing a couple of feet away. The bomber jumped off and let his clay creation disappear. With a slightly pissed and grumbling expression he stepped closer to us, saying something. I couldn't hear but when I saw back at Sasori I was surprised to see that the emotional non-feeling puppet master was actually furious. With narrowed eyes he called something out at his partner who only shrugged.
I still heard nothing but the ringing in my ears. I was afraid that my eardrum was damaged and that I was permanently deaf, but while Sasori turned around, stomping back into the base and Deidara followed him after glaring at me I started to hear a mix of different sounds. They were incredibly quiet and dull, but it only took the time the cloudy sky needed to become completely dark until I clearly could hear the first rain drop landing with a smack on the stone next to me, then the second, and the third. It started to rain heavily but I just sat there, facing the dark sky. My hands sunk into the mud and let the water wash away my blood.
I don't know how long I was sitting on the cold ground, my soaked clothes hang heavily from my body by now. I didn't realize that I was shaking from coldness.
It was still raining but not as heavy as in the beginning. That was the reason why I heard the footsteps coming closer. I looked around to see a dark figure approaching me. My vision was slightly blurry so that I couldn't see who it was but I saw that he or she pulled out his or her cloak and covered my shaking body with the warmth of it. Carefully I was lifted into the person's arms. It was still too dark to see who it was but I didn't care. I leaned against the person's chest tiredly and weakly and let me being carried back into the base. When the rain suddenly stopped because of we had entered the cave I noticed the tears that were streaming down my cheeks.
Eve couldn't believe this. They really had decided to let Destiny continue its course. It was a disaster! Eve had been there, she had watched as the Universe had fallen apart the last time because they didn't do anything. It has been a tragedy! And nothing compared to two or three planets which were about to die.
She had to stop this before it would be too late. She had to prevent the tragedy from happing a second time under all costs!
Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes. What she was about to do would go against the Guard's orders. It would go against the agreement they had made. But it was necessary.
Abruptly she stood up and walked out of her office, through the white clean halls of their headquarters which was placed on one of the smallest planets existing, in the middle of the Universe. It was also the cross point of a lot of magic strings, their source of power.
Eve went into the basement, the section of the Keepers.
"Ramon." Some of the Keepers turned their heads toward her approaching form while whispering in a low tone, but she ignored them.
"Ramon!" she yelled louder this time. Doors were leading on her right and left side to rooms, each of them was labeled with the names of different planets. In these rooms lay all the knowledge which the Keepers had gathered from the dead souls, the knowledge of every planet that had ever existed.
Eve walked past these doors without really noticing them. She only needed the knowledge of one room, more like from one special soul.
"Ramon!"
"You wanted to speak me my dear Eve?" Ramon asked as he suddenly stood behind her. She didn't even bother to turn around but continued walking.
"You must do something for me."
"And why should I?" he asked following her curiously.
"Because I know that you didn't like the agreement of the Guard, just as me. You want the souls that should have died, right?" she said with a small smile.
"Speak on my dear Eve."
"Help me and you'll get your souls."
A quick smirk made its way on his lips. "Hm, sounds interesting… But tell me please what are you intending to do?"
"I'll do what we should have done the whole time: To quicken the end of this Ninja Planet so that Destiny can return to its original course." She had stopped in front of a door by now. It was labeled with Ninja planet and Earth planet. "I need you to free a special soul from your equipment. It's already here for some time so I'm sure that you collected its data anyway."
"Who do you mean?"
She told him the name. Ramon smirked. "That could indeed work…"
"So do we have a deal then? Are you going to do it?" she asked as she wanted to be sure.
Chuckling he opened the door. "Yes my dear, I will do it."
I woke up in my little room. The sun shone brightly through the window and it was quiet. My body was aching but I guessed that this wasn't only from Deidara's attempt to kill me but the result from all the training sessions. Groaning and rubbing my tired eyes I sat up carefully just to see that someone had bandaged my wounds. I had no idea how long I had been unconscious.
Slowly I stood up and walked to the window to look out. For once the sky was almost cloud-free and not greyish and rainy. It was a beautiful day.
I was interrupted from my thoughts when the door suddenly opened. I turned around to see Kisame grinning at me. "So the little girl is finally awake?"
I frowned. "Finally? How long have I been out?" I asked quietly because my throat was hurting.
"Three days" he said smirking. "Hidan has already suggested he should free you from your suffering and sacrifice you. You could be lucky that Leader has interest in you otherwise you already would have been dead by now."
I just nodded. Three days… Man, I really must have been exhausted.
"Come on, Leader wants to speak you as soon as you are awake." He mentioned me to follow him and I did. We walked through some halls until we stopped in front of Pan's office.
"Come in" his calm voice called out after Kisame had knocked. I walked into the room alone; Kisame just closed the door behind me giving me one last smirk. Slightly nervous I turned around.
Pain sat behind his desk and looked at me with his scary cold Rinnegan eyes, Konan was like usual by his side.
"How are you feeling?" I was a little surprised to hear that question; I had thought he wouldn't give a damn about my condition.
"B-better" I managed to say. My throat was still sore; after all I hadn't drunk for three days, or eaten.
"Good. I think you had more than enough time to rest, so you will continue training tomorrow, understood?" I only nodded. There was no point in trying to argue with him anyway.
"But first I have some questions for you."
And this is where the hard thing started. He wanted to know more details about my knowledge, like information about their enemies, the Jinchuriki, Akatsuki's future, the reason for their failure…
I tried to answer these questions the best I could but it was difficult because I didn't want to give him too much information. After all I didn't want the Akatsuki to win, I didn't want them to get hands on every Bijuu and I didn't want any of the Konoha, Suna or other ninjas to die. But I couldn't reject to answer because I only would continue living if I would be useful for them. And trying to lie would be stupid because I bet that he would notice it right away.
So I tried to please him with vague and half-true answers until he finally stopped asking questions. I couldn't tell if he was satisfied though, he hadn't shown a single reaction throughout our conversation. My head was still spinning from all the questions Pain had asked me and I was asking myself if I had told him anything wrong. How did Chloe thought that I could stop them? In the moment I rather supported their goals…
But in the end Pain let go of me and ordered Zetsu to bring me back to my room.
During the whole way I felt Zetsu's stare on me. It was making me feel uncomfortable, no it actually freaked me out and I was so glad when we finally had reached my room. But before I could open the door he suddenly leaned closer to my ear and whispered: "You should be happy that Leader-sama trusts you, but others don't. Remember this little girl: We're watching you. One wrong move and it'll be over for you. Then we will be there, and I'm already looking forward to eat you. Are you serious? She's really thin… Better than nothing. Touché." With this the plant man merged into the wall, his yellow eyes never leaving mine. I shuddered at his warning. I had an idea about who he had meant, who the person was which didn't trust me, which wanted Zetsu to spy me… Obito.
I quickly entered my room and shut the door behind me with a heavy sigh. Completely exhausted I plumped down on my bed.
Staring at the white ceiling I thought about ways how to turn ten S-class criminals good, and how I should deal with Tobi. I was surprised that he didn't want to speak with me yet, in fact I never had seen him once…
I was about to drift off into sleep when someone knocked on my door.
"Come in" I said, sitting up with a sigh and rubbing my tired eyes hoping that this wasn't anything important.
"Hello Rachel-chan!" Thinking about the devil…I immediately tensed when the hyperactive evil sugar-ball jumped in my room.
Oh no… please not him, not now…
"We haven't met yet Rachel-chan, I'm Tobi and I'm a good boy!" he yelled.
"Tobi… what do you want?" I asked carefully.
"Oh I just wanted to check on you" he said closing the door. "And I thought that it was about time that we two have a little talk." My blood ran cold when he didn't use his high-pitched voice anymore but the dark cruel one. I looked everywhere but in his direction, biting my lips.
I knew that playing dumb would be useless, there was no point in denying that I didn't know about his true self.
"You really seem to know a lot about us and this world but I'm curious… What do you know about me?"
I gulped and suddenly had problems breathing. Just only his simple presence wanted to make me run away from him as far away as possible… But of course I knew better. I wouldn't even come close to the door.
"I… I know everything important" I finally managed to whisper out, my gaze still on the floor. My voice was cracking and raspy but at least I could speak at all.
"I know that you pretend to be Madara, but you're not. You… You're Obito. You didn't die the day in the cave but were saved by Madara who helped you regain your strength. One day Rin and Kakashi were attacked nearby and you tried to save them but saw how-"
From the corners of my eyes I saw him raising a hand and I inwardly flinched. Afraid that I had said something wrong or had gone too far I looked up.
But Obito only said with a complete calm voice: "I know my past story, it's not necessary that you repeat it."
I shut my mouth and nodded slowly.
"You really know something… But be sure girl that I could easily get the information out of you in other ways, so don't think that you're invaluable. Tell anyone about me and I will personally rip your heart out after I let you suffer. Am I clear enough?" I again only nodded. "Good girl…" I could feel him smirk at me before he turned to open the door.
"Bye Rachel-chan!" he yelled and was gone in the next second.
