Amber's P.o.v.
This morning I'd been checking my supplies and found out that some of my shirts no longer fitted. While I was glad that I was bigger than before (a tenth of an inch exactly), it meant that I needed new clothes. Ugh, I hated going to the market to trade things. It meant seeing people, walking, socializing… Aaagh.
I knew because of my secret sources that there was a borrowers' plaza on a Macy's storage unit so that was my best shot. I was surprised by all the things they offered and traded. There was practically everything that could be found on a human mall, including a Chihuahua rodeo. I spent hours in that rodeo 'cause that Chihuahua challenged me and I had to prove him wrong. I'm a very proud person.
I was browsing some of the graphic tees a borrower had gotten from the toy section of the store when I saw someone I hadn't talked to in a while.
"Bree! Over here!" The redheaded teenage borrower looked over at me and smiled. She was about my height, okay slightly taller but whatever, with mid-length curly hair.
"Amber! I thought you were on New Orleans!"
"After the Mardi Gras I wanted to take it easy and you know, get to know the Big Apple." Also because the next day I woke up in Connecticut on top of a goat. I still wondered to this day how that happened.
Before we could keep on talking, a guy came over to us with something in his hand and started talking to Bree like I wasn't even there. How rude.
"Anna, I just found that grappling hook you were looking for…"
"Ehem."
He looked up and was surprised to see me standing there. Figures, I'm invisible now.
"Oh, sorry! I didn't see you there!" He put down the hook and shook my hand. "Johnny Payne, at your service."
"Amber, this is my cousin, Johnny."
Oh, that makes sense. I just thought he was a weirdo.
"Yeah, nice to meet you. So Bree, what brings you to New York?" Yeah, I purposely said Bree 'cause I hate anyone calling her Anna, especially this Johnny douche.
"Oh not much. I was just passing by to visit Johnny and have a nice relaxing vacation…"
"You know what would make your visit even better?" I didn't wait for her to answer.
"A grand tour through all N.Y.!" I pulled her and started dragging her. "You're gonna love it. We can go to Time Square, the Hershey Factory, the Avengers' Tower, the Hershey Factory…"
"Wait! What was the third one?" Johnny the annoying bugger asked.
"The Hershey Factory?"
"No, the other one! The Avengers' Tower!"
"I'm pretty sure I said the Hershey Factory."
"You can take us to the Avengers' Tower?"
"Yeah, I live there." Although I wish it was in the Hershey Factory.
"REALLY?! Can you take us to the Tower?"
Bree piped out from the background. "I don't think it would be a really great idea to go to where Earth's Mightiest Heroes live…"
"Nonsense, I want to show you where I live. Besides you're my BFF&E!"
"BFF&E?"
"Best Friend Forever & Ever! That way you can crash with me and not with Jason here."
"It's Johnny."
"Whatever."
I managed to convince, so she was cool with us going. Well as cool as Bree could be, considering she's always worrying about everything.
Line Break
Nobody was currently in the Tower and that eased Bree's nerves. Her irritating cousin was feeling the opposite. He kept turning his head around trying to take it all in. He looked like a meerkat. We were entering the kitchen and I was going to take them to my room on top of the fridge.
"Wow, I can't believe I'm standing where Captain America eats!" I groaned.
From the moment we stepped inside the Tower, that guy started becoming an even bigger pain in the neck than he already was. He was very impressionable.
"We can go to the bathroom after and then you can stand where he shits." He ignored me and kept gawking at everything.
We climbed on top of the counter and then on top of the fridge. From there, we had a clear view of the whole place. Plus food was below us, which made this a great living. We lay down on our stomachs and I brought over a blanket.
"So Bree, how has your life been?"
"Oh, nothing much. I've been living the past few months in an apartment down at Seattle. It's mostly quiet because the humans living there travel a lot."
"Mmh, sounds like you got a great place." I would have died of boredom. Or burn the place down, because of the boredom.
"And you, how do you manage to live here without getting caught or seen?"
I looked at her confused for a moment. Before I could say anything, I heard someone coming. While Bree and Johnny ducked, I looked up. It was Thor.
I was about to say hi, when I felt someone pull me down.
"What the heck are you thinking?! Do you want to be seen?" Jason whispered desperately. I groaned; God was he such a moron.
"Little Amber, are you in here?" Bree and Jason jumped; I didn't know if it was because of his booming voice or him calling me.
Either way, I got up and waved.
"Hey Thor! Over here!"
"Are you freaking nuts?!" Bree was getting whiter and paler.
"Relax, he wouldn't hurt a fly. Except that time when he actually killed a fly and I was so amazed cause it's so freaking hard since they're so fast and shi…"
I was interrupted by high girly screaming. And it was not Bree.
When I turned around, Thor was already reaching for me. I could see his gigantic hand coming to us. I was so used to being manhandled around here (yeah, I'm looking right at you Clint), Bree and Whats-his-name obviously weren't. Thor accidentally grabbed them with me. I tried not to ponder much on the fact that the three of us could fit comfortably in his loose fist.
He got us down from the top of the fridge and started walking to the living room. Meanwhile, I was trying to reassure them that we were friends.
"Are you absolutely sure he's not going to try anything against us?" Bree was getting calmer but not less nervous.
"Relax, Thor's cool. I mean, it was really funny how we met. He accidentally confused me with a Pop-tart and well one thing led to another…"
"OH MY GOD WE'RE GOING TO DIE!" Johnny on the other hand was not handling this very well.
I rolled my eyes. "We're not going to die."
"YES, YES WE ARE! He's going to squash us, sell us, dissect us, eat us alive, shoot us, kill us, squash us…"
"You already said squash us."
"Because he's going to do it again!"
My patience was growing thin and I had to contain myself from not throwing him overboard. Bree tried to get him to calm down.
"Johnny, I trust Amber and if she says he's not going to hurt us…"
"Well I don't! I think we're going to die and it will all be her fault and…"
"Oh that's IT!" I was no more Ms. Nice Girl. I started shaking his shoulders ravenously and slapping him.
"Control yourself dude! Pull yourself together goddamn it!" I think it's a good time to mention that one of my favorite movies is Airplane.
Finally, Thor opened his hand and light flooded in. I immediately let go of Johnny just in case that made me look bad. Thor's face was confused for a moment and then it went back to its gleaming basic setting.
"Little Friend Amber, you have brought tiny friends with you!"
"Thor, you make it sound as if I had no social life. This is my best friend in all galaxies and beyond, Bree. And her cousin, Jonas."
"My name's Johnny."
"Shut up Jonas."
Thor extended his pinkie to Bree (which was bigger than her arm) and Bree shook it.
"It is my pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Bree." By Odin, he sounded like a living Shakespearian character. And that was confusing since he was supposed to be a Norwegian demigod from outer space.
Bree blushed and tried unsuccessfully to not look flustered. "Likewise."
He turned his pinkie to Johnny and shook his hand a bit more roughly. "Pleasure to meet you also, Jonas."
The newly named Jonas looked ready to have a change of pants but just gulped and nodded.
"So Thor, why did you grabbed us and took us to the living room?"
Thor beamed even more than possible and announced in a booming voice that rattled us. "I bring joyous news to you and your friends, lady Amber! Lady Jane and I will be bonded by vows of eternal love!"
I gasped. "Thor, you can't say that in front of children!" I pointedly looked at Jonas, who was trying by all means to be invisible. Yeah, not happening bro.
"That means they're going to get married Amber."
"Oh, I thought… yeah. Congratulations Thor!" I went over and patted his thumb and Thor smiled. "Jane's a great girl and you guys make a cute couple."
"Thank you, lady Amber! I haven't told the others but will do so when they arrive. Let's rejoice in mead and Pop-tarts!"
And we did. There was abundance of Pop-tarts and mead was passed for everyone. There was feasting and celebration.
By the time the others came, the four of us had already bonded and the living room looked like it had been bombarded by Skittles and chickens. Bree had fallen asleep hugging one of the chicks and Jonas and Thor were now BFUJD (Best Friends Until Jonas Died).
"Nooo, you should be my best maaaan." And Thor poked Jonas, who fell over.
"Buuut I'm nooot preeettyy enough." Jonas started crying and Thor hugged him closer to his beard. Then Thor started crying.
I was sitting in the couch watching Tv and barely even glanced up to their arrival.
"What even happened… No wait, I don't want to know." Tony asked and then walked away followed by Natasha and Clint. Bruce and Steve stood there looking confused.
"Some people can't hold their mead in." I shrugged and kept watching Tv. It had been an awesome day.
