Alice:
Cullen's family story could probably fetch me more than a decent amount of money if I'd ever sell it to an entertainment company – I thought as I took a sip of 1945 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild.
I'm from a wealthy family, but it's only wealthy in the terms of money. Money which everyone in the world chases after, right? Money could do so many things. It can cause betrayal, revenge. Of course, it can bring happiness too if you so firmly believe that happiness means taking a yacht trip, indulging in a big feast, or even taking a sip of a million wine. I am grateful to be able to be able to afford those things. I am grateful for the money which enables me to chase after my dreams – attending expensive Medical school, travelling around the world. But if you were to give me another chance, I wouldn't take it – not after seeing how it causes families to fall apart and members plotting against one another just to obtain a bigger share of the "pie".
No, I'm not dwelling on my ridiculous/ laughable family history again. Nobody has the time for that… But well if you really want to know, let's go back to twenty years ago.
Carlisle Cullen was a charismatic but poor lawyer. His ambition was to help the poor and the discriminated to obtain their rights. He doesn't charge for most of the cases he took – as such he remain poor, so poor till he couldn't even afford basic commodities. He met Edward's mother in a small town bar. They had a wonderful time together. He would often bring her to the small town's restaurant situated beside the sea whenever he won a case to celebrate. He said he could never forget the smell of the sea breeze hitting against the shores. The food they had were really bad but he said the company is what really matters. Then one day, Edward's mother left him, without a trace. He looked for her for years, till one day his friend told him he saw her at T holdings. Carlisle took the first train to Forks the very next day. He found her and eventually found at that she was the heiress of T. Her family despise him for his lack ambition and fortunes. He said her father thrown a paper bag of money to his face just to force him to leave her. Carlisle did leave but he sworn to take revenge. He became a corporate lawyer and money to him was everything. He married my mum for her fortunes. He used to joke that being a charismatic man does have his own advantages. I mentioned to Edward that I was adopted by Carlisle, that's because I am from my mother's previous marriage. Years passed and Carlisle took over T holdings, spare me the details of how he did it, I am better at opening bodies than understanding how businesses work.
Edward's mother found out that she was pregnant and escaped from her family again. She and Carlisle never cross paths again. Carlisle used to wonder if Edward's mother leave him because she couldn't stand the poor life they're living or was she forced by her family to do so.
Carlisle found Edward after a long time. Edward was still a final year student at a university. Carlisle doesn't want to disturb his peaceful life but felt bad for letting him live in a one room apartment and eating instant noodles for his three meals. Things changed when Carlisle found out that he has cancer and left with only a few years of life. He want Edward to have a stable job and live a good life. Most importantly, he doesn't want Edward to be despised by others, just not another him again.
Ten years ago:
I returned back to my home one day from school. Switched on the lights.
"Alice, do me a favour." I saw Carlisle sitting on the couch. I grabbed a pillow and throw it at him.
"OMG dad, I swear you scared the hell out of me!"
His eyes turned and I saw for the first time, he was crying.
"Dad, what's wrong?" I rushed over to him.
"I hope Edward doesn't turn into another me."
"Who's Edward?"
"Your brother." He hugged me.
"Mr Cullen, time for your medication." Alec walked over to Carlisle and handed him three pills and a cup of water. Carlisle took it and drank the water, he stood up and walked over to the dining table.
"Alec, do join us for dinner. I've always treated you like my own son." Carlisle winked at me.
"Yes please join us!" I exclaimed, amazed at my guts. Alice why are you're so desperate.
After dinner:
"Dad, how can I help you?" Carlisle passed me a note with an address on it. "Please help me to find me and bring him to me and from there I'll do it."
Present:
And after that day, I approached Edward and revealed everything to him. He still hold a grudge against Carlisle for letting his mother down and for threatening him to break up with Bella. Carlisle wanted to portray himself as the bad guy and how he loves money. He never tell Edward that it was his mother who leave on her own accord. He never tell Edward that he didn't want Bella to despise him.
I am so fortunate to meet Alec, he never left me, but he couldn't really care for me. We were never an official couple. Thankfully everything was set right for me. Thankfully my baby is able to have his father beside him. But what about Bella and Edward? Bella doesn't seem to be the kind who would find happiness in money. That day at the Cafe where Edward broke up with her, I saw how she looked at Edward, how she smiled when she saw him although he was broke. After she slapped him and left, Edward cried. He hung his head down and told me that it is Bella's misfortune to meet him. I felt so bad to be a part of this scheme.
And from then I know, Carlisle we're so wrong to break them up.
