Hello there.
I know that it's been a long time. It's a long story, so let's just do this one instead.
Sorry.
Enjoy.
"Suddenly, I viddied what I had to do, and what I had wanted to do, and that was to do myself in; to snuff it, to blast off for ever out of this wicked, cruel world. One moment of pain perhaps and, then, sleep for ever, and ever and ever." - Alex, A Clockwork Orange
Paul pondered which he liked best, weed or Madison's blood, as he slowly gulped down the wonderful liquid, savoring the taste, almost moaning as it passed his mouth. He had never had something so sweet, at least not since…
Madison suddenly felt limp. At first, Paul didn't think about it, but then he realized she had fainted and dropped her in surprise so she fell backwards to the ground.
"Holy shit!" he exclaimed, staring at her limp body on the ground and quickly standing up, looking around the cave, trying to figure out what to do.
Shit. Shit shit shit. Shit.
He was about to move to get her up and place her somewhere else when Marko's voice filled his head, as if on queue, which made him curse again.
What's going on, Paul?
Picking Madison up and carrying her over to her bed, pulling the covers over the new wound on her shoulder, he tried to answer as calmly as possible.
Uh, nothing? I, ah, dropped my joint on my leg. Ow.
Licking his lips and thus clearing off the last blood from his face, he enjoyed his last taste of her blood, even though it had become a bit more cold than he preferred. How much time did he have before Marko came back? It was an accident, he didn't mean to drain that much. How was he supposed to know that she was going to pass out? Humans are so weak, it's hard not to take too much when all they do is struggle.
Sighing, he went over to the bed again, looking down at the unconscious girl. She was a bit pale, he noted. Although maybe she had been that pale all this time? He had a hard time remembering. Marko had been so unfair about her. Blood, he could share, but the rest? Paul was just waiting for Marko to allow him this moment with her obeying him. Maybe he would've been able to get some?
Shaking his head and snorting, he walked away from the bed with his hands in his pockets. It's not like he'd never raped anyone before, he actually had a small habit of doing just that every now and then when his prey happened to be sort-of hot. But something about the way she'd said it, how she had been resistant even through their, as Paul and Marko put it, Jedi Mind Tricks. Something about her voice actually summoned the long lost mercy he had hidden deep down so long ago, around the same time he threw away his humanity. It just reminded him of so many victims he had raped and killed. It just made him confused. He was Paul, a vampire, a killer. But something about Marko's new toy just confused him so much.
A sigh escaped his lips as he lit a cigarette and plopped down on the couch with his legs spread widely. Marko was going to be so pissed when he found out Paul had drained Madison to the point of unconsciousness. They were brothers, but Paul had a feeling that Marko was a lot more attached to her and her blood than he was to any of the other three in the pack.
Attachment was bad.
The only thing that was supposed to matter was the pack, the brotherhood. It didn't take much time for Paul to understand that. They all had had families. Before. Parents that loved them. Brothers and sisters. Paul could remember every story that the others had told him. Some, like Marko and David, had killed either their entire family or parts of them. Others, like him and Dwayne, had been through something even worse.
Paul could still feel his hands shake when he thought about that horrifying night. He had been at the beach from sunset, surfing with his younger sister waiting for him by the edge of the ocean every afternoon so that she could catch a glimpse of him. She was scared of water and was always so impressed when she watched him surf. To her, Paul was a superhero. He had told her about sharks and dolphins and seals and all kinds of animals in the ocean that were cute and cool. She even believed him when he told her that there was a kind of shark that could swim in sand AND water and that there was no safe place when those sharks felt like eating small girls.
She had managed to stay completely oblivious of the fact that her brother had been turned into a vampire when he suddenly moved out and her other brother had gone missing. So childishly oblivious. Paul never figured out if he liked it that way or not.
She too met her fate, by Dwayne's hand. When they realized that Paul's sister was keeping him from the pack, they broke her neck and tossed her in the ocean. Her body was never found. And Paul was completely okay with that.
Madison was lucky, Paul thought. She was human. While it was true that she was a "guest" in their home, she could still end it any moment she'd want. Jump from the cliff, swim out 'till she couldn't swim anymore and drown… She could do it. Immortality ruined way too much. If she ever made it out alive from them, she'd move on with her life, probably, find herself a man, get married, have kids…
Or she would go bananas and get locked up in the looney bin.
Paul chuckled at the thought of Madison in a straightjacket.
Restless, he stood up again and walked over to her, sitting down on the bed instead, still smoking.
"Y'know, Madi, you're lucky. You don't know it yet, but you are."
He chuckled and lay down on his back by the foot of the bed, one arm behind his head and his feet on the ground.
"I don't think he'll let us kill you. That's what makes you lucky," he whispered, staring at the ceiling and just waiting for a very angry Marko to come home again.
This is me trying to get into Paul's head. I suppose it was worth a shot, eh?
Don't we all wonder what will happen next?
Until the next chapter. See ya.
