Chapter 11:

Shortly after their conversation, Anna was allowed to return to work. She left the office and quickly made her way downstairs. A few other passing nurses and orderlies waved their greetings, but continued on their way. Making her way towards the nurse's kitchen, she got lost in her thoughts.

"Wow, so I'm really going to be Elsa's nurse! This is exciting…or is it terrifying? Excitifying? Terriciting? What, no, those aren't words, you made them up you goof," she mused to herself.

Pushing open the door to the kitchen, she had to stifle a giggle. The door swung open and a resounding thud was heard.

Walter Elias Psychiatric Center

(Nurse's Kitchen)

The redhead rushed into the kitchen. Standing right next to the door was a tan woman, slightly taller than Anna, with thick raven black hair and bright emerald green eyes. The woman stood next to the door, looking slightly concerned, but virtually unharmed. Nevertheless, the redhead began to apologize profusely.

"Oh man, oh no, I'm so sorry! Did I hit you with the door? I did, didn't I? That's the second time I've done that! I really need to pay attention more!"

Anna continued to prattle on. She didn't notice the woman trying to interject to calm her down. The young nurse went on until a gentle hand found its way to her shoulder and teal eyes snapped up.

"Hey, whoa, easy…calm down. It's ok. I'm fine," a soft voice spoke.

The redheaded nurse let out a sigh of relief, "Thank god."

"Hmm, red hair, incessant rambling… you must be Anna."

"Wow, are those the traits everyone uses when describing me?"

The other woman chuckled, "That's not so bad. You should've heard the names they called me when I first started."

"They called you names!"

"Nothing I couldn't handle. Besides," The raven –haired woman winked, "I straightened them all out in the end."

"Really? How'd you do – " Anna interrupted her own sentence with a sudden yelp of pain. She suddenly began bouncing up and down while attempting to sooth her shin. "What the…"

Glancing down at the floor, she saw a small white and grey goat glaring back at her. Teal eyes remained trained on the animal until a pair of tan hands gently picked the goat up. The goat bleated in protest, but to no avail. The other woman had a firm grasp on the creature.

"Djali, that wasn't nice!" She scolded. "It was an accident, Anna didn't mean to hit you!"

Anna looked back and forth between the woman and the goat. Confusion etched on her face, she watched the two interact. The emerald-eyed woman coddled the little goat as if it were a small child. She muttered a few inaudible words to the creature and scratched behind its ear.

"Esmeralda."

"Huh?"

"My name, it's Esmeralda. And this," the woman stated while hoisting the goat up to eye level, "is Djali."

Djali let out a small bleat as if confirming his master's statement. The young nurse stood by looking dumbfounded. Esmeralda saw the confusion on the girl's face. A smile crept onto her features as she brought the goat closer to her once again.

"I uh…y-you have a-a g-g-goat?" Anna stammered.

"Yeah, I've had Djali for a few years now. Isn't that right?" she cooed. "When I got my job here, I got him registered as a service animal, so now he can come to work and help me with the patients.

The redhead raised a curious eyebrow. "How is a goat considered a service animal?"

"Well he helps some of the more…frantic patients with anxiety. The younger ones, like Vanellope, like to play with him and he keeps them leveled, so to speak."

"Right," Anna stated as she watched the other woman place the animal back on the floor. She watched as it hopped around her feet for a moment before trotting off into the kitchen.

"Don't mind him, he's just a troublemaker. I am very sorry about your leg though, he hasn't done anything like that in a while."

"It's alright, I deserved it I guess. I have to stop recklessly swinging doors open. The last time it happened, I spilled coffee all over Meg."

Esmeralda chuckled. "I'm sure it was an improvement on that sweet disposition of hers. How is she anyway?"

"I haven't heard from her since the incident. I was going to visit her today, if I could finagle her address out of Roz."

"Please, that woman is like a fortress. You'd sooner break into McDuck National Bank before you break through her. Try asking Mirage, I'm sure she'd have no qualms giving it to you," the raven-haired woman retorted.

Anna thought about that statement before concluding it to be her best option. The pair spoke briefly before going out and doing their rounds. The day was uneventful for the young redhead. She didn't work with Elsa today, that would start later in the week. Today was primarily working with Vanellope and a few other residents. Esmeralda handled the more difficult ones, leaving Anna to work with the smoother crowd.

The work day flew by and before Anna knew it, it was almost three o'clock. She checked in with Esmeralda, making sure it was ok to leave. The emerald-eyed woman flashed a bright smile as she attempted to keep a close eye on Djali who was playing with a young brown-haired girl.

"Everything's all good here. I'm just waiting for Wendy's time to be up, then I'm going to head out myself," she stated. "Have a good evening, oh, and give my best to Meg."

The redhead nodded before running off into the building. She made her way to the nurse's kitchen and carefully opened the door this time. Finding no one the other side, she quickly changed out of her uniform and grabbed her things. Once she changed, she returned to the hospital to search for her boss. Her search didn't take long and Mirage was more than happy to give her Meg's address, even if it was against protocol. Anna shouted her thanks as she turned and made a mad dash for the front door. With that, she was off.

Megara's House

Anna stood on the doorstep and gazed upon the house before her. It wasn't extravagant by any means, just a simple triplex. The young redhead took a chance to steal a quick glance around the neighborhood. The other houses were duplexes, all the same color and evenly distanced. Teal eyes returned to the house at hand and shortly after, she knocked on the door. The seconds ticked by and Anna continued to wait.

Suddenly the door swung open causing the redhead to snap out of her thoughts. Standing in the doorway was a tall brown-skinned woman, with hazel eyes and curly dark brown hair. "Hello, can I help you?"

"I u-uh, must have the wrong house. I'm sorry to bother you, I'll just be-"

"You must be a friend of Meg's," the woman cut in. "You're at the right place, come on in."

The woman stepped aside and gestured for Anna to enter. The redhead followed suit and strolled into the house. Once inside, the taller woman shut the door behind them and stood at Anna's side. She easily had six inches of height over the smaller girl, causing the redhead to blatantly look up at her.

"Do you also work at the hospital?"

"Yes, I'm the new…WAS the new nightshift nurse. I started a few weeks back, but then I got switched to the day shift after a really weird thing happened during my shift and that's when I started working with Meg. Well, I guess technically I have been working with her, since I'm an employee and-"

"Whoa, hold on, slow down!" the brunette chuckled. "You must be Anna. Spits sentences out a mile a minute, red hair, sparkling personality. Yes, I'd say you fit the bill."

Anna's cheeks reddened. Had Meg been talking about her to this woman? A woman whose name she didn't even know!

"Calliope," the woman stated, as if she read the shorter woman's mind. "But please, call me Cal, or Calli, whichever you prefer."

Cal jutted her hand out to Anna and the redhead tentatively accepted it. The pair shook hands and exchanged a few more pleasantries before a loud crash sounded off from within the house. The sound caused both women to flinch. After regaining her composure, Cal let out a loud sigh and pinched the bridge of her nose.

"I'M GOING TO KILL HER!" screamed a familiar voice. "DEAD! SHE'S AS GOOD AS DEAD!"

"It would seem that Meg is out of bed and about. Follow me."

The pair ventured further into the house. As they did so, Anna took the chance to glance around the dwelling. There were all types of things adorning the walls of the house. There were a few paintings of historical figures, some framed posters of famous comedians and even a few gold records. After a short walk, the two women arrived in the kitchen where they found Meg angrily digging through a cabinet.

"Always eating my food and never replacing it! Somehow finds all the good stuff that I try to hide! Ugh, she's so dead," Meg muttered to herself as she casually flung things over her shoulder.

Cal cleared her throat, causing the brunette to cease her grumbling. "You have a visitor."

Violet eyes looked past the taller woman and spotted the notable red hair of her coworker.

"Gingersnap?" Meg quickly closed the cabinet door and strolled over to the other women in the room.

"I'll leave you two to it, but don't think for a second that you aren't cleaning up this mess," Cal stated.

Meg flagged her hand, much to the taller brunette's annoyance. "Yeah, yeah, don't worry mother, I think I can handle it."

The hazel-eyed woman scoffed and turned to Anna. "It was nice to meet you. I'm glad to know that Meg has some friends. Perhaps she'll be a suitable host and show you around the house…perhaps," she hinted. With that, she was off.

Anna stood awkwardly in the doorway of the kitchen and Meg watched the other woman exit. Once Cal was gone, the brunette turned her attention to her coworker. The redhead was looking around at the mess strewn about the floor.

"Sorry about the…mess. You came at a good time, I'm amidst plotting a murder as we speak," she quipped.

"Who's the unlucky victim?"

"My roommate-,"

Before she could even finish her sentence, a short, heavy-set woman with a ponytail atop her head bounded into the kitchen. Meg's eyes widened when she noticed what the newcomer was eating. In the woman's hands was a container that was very familiar to the slender brunette.

"Thalia," Meg continued. "Those wouldn't happen to be loukoumades would they? Loukoumades that were hidden…in the cabinet, on the very top shelf, with a sign that clearly stated 'DO NOT EAT'?"

The woman swallowed the remains of what she'd been eating, then audibly gulped. "Um…no?"

Meg slowly stalked over to the shorter woman. "Oh really? Because I could have sworn, I had a container of them, a container that was eerily similar to the one you now have in your possession."

Anna watched on as the smaller brunette glanced at the aforementioned container then back to a very irritated Meg. The two continued their stare down. The brunette took one step forward and the other woman took one step back. Without any warning, Thalia turned on her heel and ran off into the house. Meg flew past an intrigued Anna as she chased after the other woman.

The redhead followed the sound of yelling and heavy footsteps throughout the house. She quickly found the pair in the living room being separated by Cal and two other women. Anna stood by the entry and observed the sight before her. Thalia kept a watchful eye on Meg as she hid behind Cal. Meg was being restrained by two women Anna hadn't yet met.

"Let me go!" The brunette struggled against her restrainers. "I'm gonna do it, I'm going to kill her. Point blank. No arguments, no questions."

Cal sighed. "You're not going to kill her. You say that every time and every time, what happens?"

"I let her go," Meg muttered.

"You let her go."

The slender nurse visibly deflated. Thalia grinned in triumph, but her victory was short-lived as Cal rounded on her.

"As for you, how many times have I told you to stop taking things that aren't yours? One day we," she gestured to herself and the two unnamed women, "won't be here to save you."

Anna stood by as the group of women talked and bickered amongst themselves. For the most part she'd gone unnoticed. It was amusing to watch her friend interact this way. Wait…friend? Was Meg her friend? Of course they were coworkers, but that didn't constitute friendship did it? Was that presumptuous of her to assume that?

The expression on her face must've read dire panic. Meg turned to look at the young redhead and dropped what she was doing. The remaining four women quickly all huddled together.

"Hey, Gingersnap, you ok?"

The redhead shook her thoughts away and looked up at familiar violet eyes. "Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm fine. I was uh…just thinking about something."

"Whatever it was must've been really heavy for you to scrunch your face up like that," she quipped.

"No, it wasn't a big deal," the redhead smiled.

Cal cleared her throat, "Ahem."

Both nurses looked back into the living room to find the other occupants staring at them. Cal had a slight smirk on her face and Thalia was full on grinning…while still munching hard on her pilfered snacks.

"Aren't you going to introduce your friend?" she continued.

Meg pinched the bridge of her nose. "Right. Anna you already met Cal. The whimpering mass of thievery to her left is Thalia. My two former handlers on the right are Melpomene, you can call her Mel and Terpsichore, affectionately known as Twerp."

Cal shot a glare at Meg.

"Or you can call her Sissy. Not as fun as twerp, but guaranteed to keep mother hen off of my back," she finished.

Mel stepped forward to shake Anna's hand, followed by Sissy.

"It's an absolute pleasure to meet you." Mel stated. She was a tall woman, but not taller than Cal. She looked to be in good shape, with soft brown eyes and hair down to her waist.

Sissy practically shoved the other woman aside as she gently grasped the redhead's hands. Sissy was slightly taller than Thalia, had frizzy hair and light brown eyes. "It's lovely to meet you, Meg never brings friend's home. We're actually surprised to find she had some."

"Hey, I have friends! I just don't bother bringing them around you lot," Meg snapped.

"What's going on in here?" an unfamiliar voice asked.

Moments later, the foreign voice revealed itself to belong to yet another woman. Seriously, how many people lived in this house? The newcomer was of average height, had a ponytail that sat high and she possessed the same kind brown eyes as the other women Anna had recently met. Now that Anna thought about it, all the women slightly resembled one another.

"Clio, how nice of you to join us," the brunette nurse deadpanned. "Looks like the gang's all here. Anna meet Clio, Clio that's Anna."

Clio had her hands full with textbooks and papers so shaking hands was out of the question. Instead, she offered Anna a warm smile and a quick nod of her head in acknowledgement. "Hi, nice to meet you. Sorry, my hands are a little full at the moment."

"Oh not a problem! It's nice to meet you too, to meet you all actually. I'm sorry, I feel like such an intrusion on you guys. If you'd like, I can come back later or, you know, never at all if that's what you'd prefer," Anna was in full on rant mode.

Meg strode over to the redheaded woman and placed a hand on her shoulder as teal eyes snapped up to meet violet ones. "Hey, easy, calm down. You're not an intrusion and you don't have to go anywhere."

Anna gave her friend a sheepish smile. The taller woman couldn't help but to smirk in response. The action incited taunting from some of the other women. Instead of indulging them, Meg simply guided Anna out of the room. She led her up a flight of stairs and through a few halls before stopping. They stood in front a lavender door. The brunette turned to doorknob, opened the door and stepped inside, followed by Anna.

The shorter woman closed the door behind herself out of habit. Once fully inside, Anna glanced around taking in the room. The walls were a deep purple, which contrasted the door, the floor was a nice dark brown wood finish and one large window sat on the opposite side of the room. A sizeable bed sat against the wall to the right of the room, on which Meg had effectively flopped onto.

"Wow, this…is beautiful."

"Eh, you've seen one room, you've seen em' all. So what brings you to my neck of the woods?"

"Oh, I got your address from Mirage, I hope that's ok. I just wanted to check on you and see how you were. Oh! And to thank you for what you did. It's my fault you're even out sick, when you didn't have to help me at all, so I figured the least I could do was thank you."

Meg allowed the woman to finish her rant. She'd never seen her finish one, so why not now. Anna went on for a few minutes more, before Meg eventually had to put a stop to it.

"Easy there red, calm down. You're gonna pop a fuse one day, I'm sure of it."

The redhead blushed. "Sorry about that."

"No need to apologize, seriously. As for helping you out, of course I'd help you. I couldn't let the new girl get flambéed on the clock, right?" The brunette tossed her companion a teasing smirk.

The jibe allowed Anna to visibly relax. "So what've you been up to since that day?"

"Nothing much. Binge-watching Netflix and harassing my roommates. You know, just girly things."

Auburn eyebrows shot up at the mention of the other women. "Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you about that, if you don't mind."

Meg raised an eyebrow in curiosity and waited for the redhead to continue.

"You're roommates, they all look… familiar."

"Ah, you noticed that, huh?" Meg let out a sound that could only be described a mix between a scoff and laughter. "They used to be a singing group back home. Got fairly famous over there and moved to the states to try to further their career. It didn't work out so well, so they decided to pursue other ventures."

"Where's home?" Anna asked curiously.

"Greece."

The redhead nodded. "Did you all grow up together?"

Meg shook her head. "No. They're all older than I am, except Thalia. She's my age. We were best friends growing up, so naturally I tagged along a lot. Anyway, when we were preteens, their little group took off."

"That's great!"

"Yeah…" was the morose response. "It wasn't the best experience, but they moved state side, I did a few years later for school and now here we are."

There was a brief silent pause before Meg continued.

"Enough about my tragic back-story, how are things at work?"

Anna perked up. "Work? Oh! Work! Well not much really. I finally got to meet Esmeralda, gives you her best –"

"That prat," she muttered.

" –ookay… um, oh, I got assigned to be Elsa's secondary nurse."

The auburn-haired woman leapt up off of the bed. She stood across from Anna with eyes wide and her jaw dropped slightly. Had she heard correctly? No she couldn't have. Clearly she was hearing things.

"You…are the Ice Queen's secondary? The Ice Queen has a secondary? YOU! You are said secondary?"

"Um…yes," the redhead squeaked.

"You are by far the most interesting thing to happen to this job in the entirety of the time I've been there," Meg literally slid over to Anna, grabbed her by the hand and dramatically continued. "Please don't ever leave…I don't think my heart could take it…give me details."

The shorter woman laughed at her friend's antics. It was good to see the other woman in good spirits after the incident. All the worry Anna had before arriving had dissipated in that moment. "Well, after things settled in the foyer, Mirage called me to her office –"

Anna continued her story in full, sparing no details. The two women caught up with one another. Apparently not much happened in the brunette's life. Hours flew by and Anna decided to call it a night. The two women walked to the front door and said their goodbyes.

Meg closed the door and turned around, intent to return to her room. Instead she was faced with five grinning roommates. The brunette released a loud sigh as she pushed through the other women. She made her way up the stairs, but took a moment to glance back at the women. They still stood by the door giving her a knowing look. She shook her head and continued her ascent.

Anna's Apartment

The door to the apartment swung open and the redhead trudged in. She was tired, today had been a long day. Granted, it wasn't a bad day, but a long day nonetheless. She tossed her bag and coat on a nearby chair and plopped down on the sofa. Kristoff sat on the opposite end, tuning his guitar.

"Long day?" he asked.

"Busy day. Very tired, need sleep."

The blond man chuckled and continued picking at his instrument. "What you need is a good old fashioned song…or a bath."

"A bath! A bath sounds good," she stated as she hopped up off of the sofa and darted out of the room.

Kristoff just smiled as he continued his work. At that moment, Olaf decided to make his presence known. The cat strolled over to the man and rubbed himself against the man.

"She totally bailed on my tunes little dude…but you wouldn't do that, wouldya boy?"

He started to play his freshly tuned guitar, only to have the cat trot out of the room.

"Ouch…burned."
