"Where are we going again?" Scarlett asked grumpily, sitting in the front seat of Elijah's car while Rebekah sat in the back. It had been a few days since Klaus had moved Savannah and Hayley with him to the house in the French Quarter, formerly Marcel's compound. Klaus had sent movers to the house, taking most of the belongings and moving them to his new home. Elijah had since gone to check on Hayley to make sure she was doing all right.
"Klaus has ordered the vampires to kill the werewolves in the bayou," Elijah told her, parking the car. "Hayley's family lives in the bayou." He looked to Scarlett. "Remember?"
"I think she means why do we have to go," Rebekah chimed in as they got out of the car.
"Rebekah," Elijah said firmly. "I don't think Scarlett is-"
"No, that's pretty much it," Scarlett nodded in agreement, the two of them standing side by side as they faced Rebekah.
"I hope that I don't have to explain again the importance of Hayley to our family," Elijah said in exasperation. "And, therefore, the importance of her family to us."
"No," Scarlett muttered.
"Not if you're going to be like that," Rebekah agreed.
"Scarlett," Elijah stopped her as Rebekah went off ahead. "You know this isn't about Hayley, it's about-"
"Her baby," Scarlett stopped him. "I know." He continued to look at her curiously. "I just kind of miss how things were before, there wasn't nearly as much Klaus drama." Elijah sighed, stepping closer to her.
"I know things haven't been ideal lately," Elijah agreed with her. "Soon though, things will be getting back to normal." He smiled at her. "And we'll have some time of our own."
Savannah spent her afternoon exploring the house, never spending much that much time in the compound, unless it was to drag Scarlett out of there after having a few too many. Now though, she explored the upstairs, the long halls, peeking into doors that were left open. Things were a bit tense since last night at dinner, with none of the other vampires happy that Klaus was assuming the role as leader now. The only one that seemed surprisingly ok with this was Marcel, though he made her feel uneasy, with the two of them never really getting along. Going back downstairs now and rounding a corner, she nearly ran into him.
"Oh, sorry Savannah," Marcel apologized. "How's the lady of the house doing?" She knew that was one of the stranger aspects of this situation to adjust to. He had been king for decades and always planned on Scarlett being queen. Now, the girl that had been so opposed to their relationship was queen as a new king had taken the French Quarter over by force.
"Um," Savannah said, not sure how to answer. Truthfully, she was pretty great. This house was amazing, she had finally found a great guy who really cared about her. The only downside was that she wasn't living with Scarlett anymore, though Klaus had extended the invitation to her since she hadn't really believed what Elijah had been saying about him. She hoped that they would be joining them at the house eventually.
"Oh, good," Klaus smiled as he came down the hall. "You two are together." He motioned to Marcel. "I was hoping that we could clear the air on a few things." He nodded at Savannah. "And, I know you two haven't always gotten along so..." He looked between the two of them. "Who wants to start?"
"Ladies first," Marcel shrugged at Savannah.
"Well, as long as Marcel doesn't try to kill me again," Savannah said sarcastically, crossing her arms over herself.
"I wasn't thinking," Marcel said back with equal sarcasm. He hadn't liked Savannah since she had become friends with Scarlett, he certainly wasn't sorry he tried to kill her.
"No one is going to be trying to kill anybody anymore," Klaus told them both.
"Oh, or bother Scarlett while she's happy," Savannah added.
"Wouldn't think of it," Marcel said back.
"Good," Klaus told them. "So, we can all start getting along." He looked at Marcel now. "Mind if I go next?" Marcel shrugged, just wanting to get this talk over with. "Ok," Klaus nodded. "So, first, Thierry didn't break your rule, I tricked him into it. Cami was compelled to spy on you-"
"You compelled Cami to go out with me?" Marcel snapped.
"Actually, that was Scarlett's doing," Klaus smirked at him and Marcel was surprised. "Oh, and speaking of our favorite brunette vampire, she's also the reason Davina's faked having to stay in the church. She's been teaching Davina how to control her magic with her sisters' old spells. So, she can be joining us at the compound."
"Oh, is that all?" Marcel asked sarcastically.
"You should know why they did this," Savannah said now and Klaus looked at her. "Well, he should."
"I suppose you're right love," Klaus agreed with her and Marcel was looking at them with a mixture of confusion and indifference. "I came to New Orleans because the witches were threatening to kill Hayley and my baby," Klaus told him. "They wanted you out of power in exchange for their safety."
"I guess that's good to know," Marcel told him, preparing to leave now. "The meeting with Kieran and the others starts in an hour."
"You're sure this is your mother's ring?" Scarlett was asking with raised eye brows as they were back at the plantation house that night. While in the bayou, they had stopped the other vampires from killing the werewolves. As it turned out, there were two packs living there. One was the one that had lived there for years, the ones that were Hayley's family. There was another pack though that had recently come to town and they had the Original witch's ring in their possession.
"I'm positive," Elijah told her.
"Well, you two do what you want with it," Rebekah said, preparing to leave. "I'm not wasting my time in telling Nik about it."
"You want to tell your brother?" Scarlett asked Elijah now as Rebekah left.
"It might be the only thing that keeps him from going after the werewolves," Elijah reasoned and she took the ring from him.
"I'm going to talk to him," Scarlett said, grabbing the car keys again.
"Scarlett," Elijah protested.
"Look," she told him gently. "Nik is still mad at you, and who knows where that other silver dagger is." She shrugged. "Last time I checked, I was still allowed to live at the compound if I wanted." Elijah gave her a serious look. "Just let me go talk to him," she insisted.
Rebekah snuck off to meet Marcel again like she had been prior to the attack on Klaus, this time in the garden. Deep within the tunnels, they knew there was little chance of anyone finding them. Klaus had angered the faction during their meeting earlier, the humans striking back and killing some of the night walkers that were left after Klaus had killed so many already. Klaus and Marcel went and killed all the members, except for Kieran. Now, after Klaus had told Marcel the truth about everything and they had fought together, Klaus was offering Marcel a chance to lead with him as equals.
"You're just giving up on it?" Rebekah accused him angrily.
"Look, maybe this way everyone can be happy," Marcel tried to reason with her. "Your brother is in power, I can take care of my people-"
"And what about me?" Rebekah snapped. "Do you care at all about me?" Marcel wouldn't look at her. "You were just using me, weren't you? Getting me to help you with your plan against my brother..." She trailed off, shaking her head. "It was never for me, it was always for you, wasn't it?"
"Rebekah-"
"And, what, then you were going to drop me and run after Scarlett again?" Rebekah demanded, heartbroken by Marcel for the second time. "Tell you what, you enjoy your time with my brother and, hey, go ahead and try to steal the other one's girl. The hell if I care." She went to storm off, but then turned back. "I just hope you haven't forgotten about 1919, or that I'm the one that knows your little secret."
"Something I can help you with Scarlett?" Klaus asked as he was sitting in the study, Scarlett coming up quietly into the room.
"Never could sneak up on you," she joked, pulling the ring from her pocket.
"Did you decide you'd rather live here than with my brother?" he smirked. "I know it would make Savannah very happy."
"I came to show you this," she handed him this ring and he observed it carefully, recognizing it immediately.
"Where did you get this?" Klaus asked her.
"There's more than one werewolf pack in the bayou," Scarlett explained. "The one is descended from a chief who had a child with a witch." She gauged his reaction. "And I guess their son was turned into a vampire and was the first hybrid ever." Klaus was still silent. "Do you see where I'm going with this or do you actually need me to spell it out?"
"No, I understand," Klaus told her, observing the ring still.
"So," Scarlett said as he was quiet again. "We were all kind of hoping that you call off your werewolf hunt?"
"I'll take it under advisement," Klaus told her and she shrugged.
"Better than no," she said lightly. "Nik."
"Hm?"
"Are we friends?" Scarlett asked him.
"Ah," Klaus hesitated. The relationship he had with Scarlett didn't extend much beyond them picking at each other's nerves. "Your with my brother, I'm with your best friend...so..."
"So, acquaintances?" she joked and he cracked a smile.
"What is this about Scarlett?" he asked now.
"Elijah is really sorry," she told him. "I just don't think he knows how to tell you."
"Well, thank you for that," he told her politely. "But, I think the apology would actually have to come from him to mean anything."
"There you are," Elijah smiled when Scarlett returned home from the compound. He was home alone as Rebekah was still gone, sitting on the couch reading. He set the book to the side as he reached for Scarlett and she moved to sit on his lap, her legs around him.
"Well," he started off as he kissed her once. "With the others moved out and Rebekah with Marcel I'm assuming..." He kissed her again, putting his arms around her waist. "I think this is part of that time on our own I was promising you before," he smiled at her. She only half smiled back, her arms looped around his neck. "What is it Scarlett?"
"Your brother," Scarlett admitted.
"Um," Elijah chuckled. "Not what I had hoped you'd be thinking of at this moment." She bit her lip as she fought off a laugh. "What about him?"
"I think he's really hurt," Scarlett said. "I know he...isn't the easiest to be around or get along with but." She hesitated on how to word it. "You're his older brother, he looks up to you. And I think what you said really hurt his feelings." Elijah looked at her curiously.
"Do you remember being buried alive?" Elijah reminded her. "Or him biting your sister, or-"
"Trust me, I know," Scarlett stopped him. "But, you know what else I remember?" Elijah looked at her curiously. "The night before you were going to turn me...God, I was freaking out so badly. Cold feet and everything. And...he told me how much you loved me and how much I loved you, basically that everything was going to be fine."
"You never told me that," Elijah told her.
"I never wanted to admit to cold feet," Scarlett said lightly, kissing him again. "Can you go talk to him?"
Elijah had gone to the compound, apologizing to Klaus for the things that he said and Klaus knew that he meant his apology, forgiving him. After they made up, Klaus told him that he wanted Elijah and Scarlett to move into the house with him. Rebekah still wasn't coming around to making up with Klaus, especially after her conversation with Marcel.
It was weird for Scarlett to be back here. While she had never lived here, she had spent plenty of time there while she was with Marcel. She was looking around now on her own, much like Savannah had been doing in the previous days. Savannah was out with Klaus now and Elijah had offered to take Hayley to the doctor's office for a check up, leaving Scarlett to settle in on her own for now. Though, she wasn't completely by herself.
"Hey," Marcel caught up with her in the hall. "How are you Prin..." He stopped as she raised her eyebrows at him. "Scarlett."
"I'm good," Scarlett answered politely.
"Weird being back here I bet," he offered and she nodded. "I guess when I thought about you moving in here, I always figured it would be with me."
"Let's not go there," Scarlett said, turning to go.
"Scarlett, just let me get this out," Marcel stopped her. "Do you even know what you did to me?" Scarlett didn't answer him. "Because I can tell you," he continued. "I spent a hundred years with you, taking care of you, being in love with you." He shook his head. "And, what, Elijah's back barely a week and you run right off? Like I never meant anything."
"Kind of sounds like what you did to Rebekah," Scarlett commented. When the originals left New Orleans, Marcel didn't even bother going after Rebekah, like he had never cared. And he had now just used her to get to Klaus, dropping her when it didn't work.
"Don't give me that," Marcel told her. "What we had was real, whether you want to admit it or not." Scarlett rolled her eyes. "He left you Scarlett, that's something I would never do."
"Seriously, stop," Scarlett argued with him. She didn't want to hear this right now.
"And, now what," Marcel continued. "He's back, but it's all about his brother. His brother's baby. The girl carrying his baby." He looked her over. "Don't tell me that doesn't bother you, not when I was all about you."
"I don't want to talk about this," Scarlett told him, though she didn't move away.
"Me either," Marcel said, stepping closer before bringing her close for a kiss; Scarlett immediately shoved him away.
"We're back!" she heard Elijah calling downstairs with Hayley.
"Coming!" Scarlett called back, preparing to go downstairs, though she was touching her lips lightly with her fingertips as if she couldn't believe what happened. "Didn't happen," she mouthed at Marcel before turning to go find Elijah.
