Chapter 12 A normal day (Part 5 Final part)

Flaky still stood frozen in place. She knew the wait was over, and danger had moved past her corner. But still, a natural instinct urged her to remain for a moment longer. One second later and an hour for Flaky, a plate came flying by exploding onto a nearby wall and leaving small white fragments on the floor. Ever so slowly, the porcupine began to breath again, taking note that the plate had missed her by a narrow 3 centimeters. "Sorry, dearie!" A honey laced tone rang out from behind the cafeteria desk. The cafeteria lady herself quickly grabbed a convenient broom and pan placed next to her side and rushed out to clean up the unsalvageable plate pieces.

While the lady worked, Flaky watched from the corners of her eyes. Following her every move, she noticed a few remarkable things she never cared to realize. The lady in front was actually quite young, just about no more than 20. She wore a greasy apron covered in soup splatters and some other... things. Aside from that, her overall image was quite appealing. What a poor girl, Flaky thought to herself, and for once she realised that beauty wasn't everything.

A ringing bell broke her trance once again and Flaky carefully collected her belongings and helped the lady clean up the mess. Once or twice Flaky peeked over to see the lady grinning at her which she took as an inner token of thanks. Flaky acknowledged this with a smile of her own, content with the comfortable silence between the two.

Once the tedious task was finally finished, the apparently also shy cafeteria lady murmured what Flaky assumed to be a "thank you". The red head smiled once again, rejuvenated with the warmth of helping someone, and dipped her head in a short nod. As she walked to her next class she thought she overheard the lady saying something about a "Nice young girl". And what a surprise, now who could that be?

Time rewind, with Splendon't the Shirt Avenger

The young girl, Rosy, was running for her life. She'd screwed up big time (though it really wasn't her fault) and now she was going to pay for it. Rosy kept a quick and even pace, but her aching knees were begging and screaming at her to stop. Luckily, she had a bit of added stamina thanks to joining a volleyball team over the summer. But that wouldn't be enough to outrun the school's fastest, strongest, best warrior on berserk mode.

Now wheezing and panting, Rosy was gasping for air that just seemed always out of reach. There was just never enough air to fill her lungs. Rounding her final corner, she hid behind it, trying to keep her breathing to a minimum as to detract attention from her. Sadly, this just wasn't her lucky day. The corner she rounded was the corner leading to the washrooms. Rosy tried to get up and make a final sacrifice to hide in the washroom, but her legs would not obey. They wobbled as she toppled over grunting in pain. Her misfortune continued as the girl's washroom door opened to reveal three girls in fashionable outfits. Everything about them radiated confidence and said "Don't mess with me". Even their outfits scintillated with a dazzling light.

The three girls immediately broke into a fit of laughter over Rosy's helpless state. Her eyes begged for help, but just when she thought one of the girls was pulling her up, the hand let go, and another uproarious bought of laughter. Cruel, mocking voices filled Rosy's mind as she tried to hold her tears. The burning ache in her throat only stimulated the natural urge to cry.

She gave herself a small boost of confidence with a little self pep talk. Come on, Rosy, if that girl can survive public humiliation, you can too! This is nothing compared to that brave Valkyrie!. And mental self talk was all it took for her to get up uneasily on both feet, leaning against the wall for support, she limped away from the girls daring not to look back. As she rounded into another hallway, her heart throbbed with trepidation. Everything around her seemed to scream wrong way.

Rosy slowly lifted her head as her impending doom leered at her from a nearby shadow. There, in all his glory was Splendon't. This day was just getting better for her, wasn't it. Oh how ironic that just yesterday life seemed to have reached its glorious peek. Heaving out a heavy sigh, she had unknowingly drawn attention to herself. She stop in the middle of a long awaited breath. Splendon't had his back facing her, covered in the sauce of her lunch which only seemed to mock her even more. Splendon't swiftly turned around locking eyes with his prey. It froze in shock as he used only his eyes to assert dominance. The little girl whimpered and cowered in fear as she shrunk down to an insignificant bug. That was all she was.

Suddenly, as Splendon't was about to hit the defenseless vermin, an image of Flaky flashed by. All anger was cleansed and Rosy saw this as a blessing when she stood up to find her leg almost fully healed, dashing off in any other direction with a good few seconds head start. Damn that whoring bitch prostitute, Splendon't mentally cursed vowing to annihilate the porcupine if he ever set eyes on her again. But that would have to wait until tomorrow. Shit! He was getting soft, vulnerable and unable to defend. The strongman cursed the red head again.

He quickly made his way to science class unless he risk another detention. The teacher, even though he usually didn't care much had threatened that if he came even a second late, detention wouldn't be his only worries. He'd be talking about full out suspension, and though Splendon't was a hard core douchebag, he couldn't afford that at the moment. And wait, did I, the narrator just call him a douchebag?

Back with Rosy

The girl breathed a sigh of relief as doomsday passed by sparing her. The moment the predator lay eyes on her feeble figure, she was already calculating away to find any weaknesses. At first finding none, she braced for the worst but noticed a moment later a sudden pressure point. Stealthily, she stood up with renewed vigour that had somehow healed her leg. Within moments she was dashing away leaving her predator to bleed to death or die right on the spot. Either way, she didn't care. She was free now, and nothing else mattered. As she walked into class Rosy hadn't realised how good she looked. She glanced over at a nearby mirror hanging above the clock in front of the room. She took her usual residence at the back of the room and realized a few guys glancing her way.

She could tell some approved, and she felt powerful. Maybe the day would be better than she'd thought. Rosy continued to reminisced old times as she stared at the beautiful girl in the mirror. Her hair was flat and combed but shined with brilliance from slivers of sunlight. Her clothes showed off a flamboyant figure in a pair of ripped jean shorts and a white sleeveless tank top with a big glittery pink star on her right breast followed by two smaller stars of the same quality.

A dark purple hairband rested atop her head like a crown and her finger nails were painted a delicate rose red reflecting simplicity and grace. Her feet were adorned with a pair of stylish running shoes that had a pattern of shiny sparkles running along the sides in a crisscrossing rainbow.

She felt like a queen, her dominance rapidly applying into the minds of her fellow subjects. The taste of popularity was powerful and ravenous. She needed more, now. As class ended, she walked towards the three girls who'd previously insulted her. They were dressed in slutty outfits that showed less desirable curves. Rosy didn't care. And her stupid name which had been a setback was no more. She was Ruby, the radiant hot red chic. The corruption of popularity was already pulsing through her veins. She smirked in a vile way, a cruel temptress seducing her puppets.

A new queen had been born that day.

With Flaky

As Flaky reached for the door knob to her class, she remembered the incident that'd happened a few days ago. Even now, she wondered who the masked green hero was. Perhaps she'd never know, but maybe love at first sight has a different way of playing out. She daydreamed that finally, her prince in shining armour had come to find her, and was finally going to take her away on his horse from this hell hole. She sighed a dreamy sigh as she tried to pay attention to the last few words of the teacher. Flaky looked down at her notes to find that thanks to her normal habits, she'd jotted down every word of the teacher and it was accompanied by a flawlessly realistic doodle of her reminisces. A knight in shining armour was reaching out his hand to pull a fair maiden onto his steed. The faces were shaded out but it was pretty obvious who the maiden was. The picture was in monochrome but Flaky noticed ears jutting out of the helmet of her knight. I don't remember drawing that... Flaky thought to herself, but sometimes fate and destiny help without directly interfering.

When class ended, Flaky cast her head down pulling on her hood though it was already on and tried to hide a small blush of embarrassment but it was pretty obvious.

Meanwhile, a few seats across, a glamorous queen to be had just set her eyes on her first victim. The sharp, steely orbs noted everything about her posture. She screamed weak and useless, just the perfect target. As Flaky passed by the girl, she "accidently" tripped the girl causing Flaky to let out a small gasp of surprise as she went sprawling onto the ground. No one noticed as they walked past her and the porcupine quickly gathered her notes and drawings holding them to her chest much like how a mother does with her child. They were priceless to her, and she knew if they got out of her hands, public humiliation would be the least of her worries.

Rosy's eyes burned with fierce fire. Flaky had not been so easy as she'd assumed, but no matter, she'd get back at the little slut. It was quite ironic that Flaky had done absolutely nothing to provoke her. What popularity brings into the minds of people is one of the worst seven sins. Popularity is the spawn of all seven.

While Flaky continued walking unknowingly, dark shadows were lurking just around the corner. In the form of a scheming girl and her three recruits. Or so one would presume. That wasn't the case of this eventful day. Ever since the start, Flaky had been more alert than usual and her shy mode had been temporarily shut off. A deep darkness stirred within her waiting to be awakened. With a little more "encouragement" a new spawn would feed of her mother's womb.

Next up: Flaky is in for the worst when a false friend shows up. That friend had a great potential, but spent it on the wrong thing. Popularity is tearing at her seems as the young porcupine continues her endless search for reinforcement. She might just find that most girls really aren't her thing. Maybe the opposite gender has something else to say...

Spoilers: A soccer game, and a new found enjoyment, Flaky's life is going to be a roller coaster at its peak, to begin with...
