UNEASY ALLIANCES
Sometimes, what's more important it's not who you're siding with but who you're siding against-Rebekah Mikaelson- The Originals
"Kitty yah have to listen to meh carefully. We don't have much time." Rogue said rushed.
"Ok, but first tell me when this all started."
"Kitty now isn't the time."
"Then when is, huh? When we're waiting to hear our sentence in the dungeons?" Kitty snapped crossing her arms across her chest.
Rogue turned to meet her eyes, but the determination in the younger girl's eyes and the way she held herself more than spoke for itself. She turned her back and just shrugged her shoulders and shook her head.
"Ah dunno."
"Liar." Without missing a beat Kitty responded accusingly. Rogue grew weary of the conversation so she took a deep breath a proceeded to speak.
"Remember a few months back when Amara became ill?" Rogue asked without expecting a response.
"Yeah of course I do. You were the one to volunteer to take care of her and she got better. What does this have anything to do with it?"
"It has everything to do with this Kit. Amara needed a glimpse of light some kind of hope in order for her to fight dat stupid illness, so ah gave it to her and dat cost meh mah freedom." Rogue mumbled the last part hoping Kitty wouldn't hear her.
Of course she had no such luck.
"What do you mean at the cost of your freedom?" Kitty demanded.
Rogue took in a deep breath and turned to look at the brunette causing her to back up a few steps. Rogue's face held such emotion that she could feel how it rolled off of her like waves of body heat.
"Kitty ah went after Amara's bracelet." She admitted.
Kitty stood there processing what she had just said, so Rogue continued.
"Ah fell into a trap Kit when ah went into that ballroom a few months ago to retrieve Amara's charm bracelet."
"Rogue you knew that it was dangerous and that wasn't even that valuable-"
"Not to you or anyone else, but to Amara it was…it still is. Do ah have to keep reminding you how badly she got sick? We thought she wasn't going to make it. That bracelet gave her hope and she recovered. What would've happened had ah not gotten it huh?"
Kitty sighed. It was true…everything she said was true. What would've happened to Amara if she hadn't had that little ray of hope she needed?
The thing was that Amara fell sick to scurvy; how Rogue knew what was making her ill no one knew. Heck none of them had ever even heard of such illness! Amara had also mentioned her charm bracelet to Jubilee, and next thing anyone knew Amara got better. Yeah there was definitely missing pieces to that story and Rogue held all of them in her hand.
"You should've told us we would've helped-"
"Exactly why ah didn't Kit, ah don't need no more blood on my hands."
"Rogue if you're talking about your father- you know that wasn't your fault!" Kitty snapped.
"It might as well have been. If only ah-"
Smack!
The sound of a hand making contact with skin resounded into the silent kitchen. Kitty stood there shocked at what she had just done, but made no move to get near the older girl. Said girl had her face bent to the side and was looking down. She also made no move to look up.
"Y-You know… I'm sick of watching how you suffer and blame yourself for something you had no hand in. You're a disgrace to our crew for doing that. You're also one of the most… cold hearted bitches I know, one that won't let emotions get in the way of anything, and that's why you're captain and not Lexa or Wanda." Kitty said quickly hoping to have smacked some sense into her.
The words seemed to have shaken the older girl back to reality, because when she raised her face she held herself high and determined and any trace of the broken, tortured girl having been there had vanished. Her façade was back in place and so was Rogue's spirit.
"Ah need yah to round up all da girls and tell them ah bailed and dat the head of security found em out and dat dey need to get outta here ASAP and then ah need yah to meet meh in da room ah'm stayin' at where ah'll give yah further instructions got it?"
Kitty shook her head up and down and grabbed a tray that held some glasses of wine as to not look suspicious and started to open the door when she heard something that caused her to smile.
"Thank yah Kit…"
With that being said, both girls took their leave each going a different direction.
Meanwhile…
Laura was starting to think that she had made a bad decision crashing the masquerade, but how would she have known that some crazy guy would chase her and stalk her the entire time she was there. She was currently hiding behind the table that had a very large and elegant cake, which made it impossible to be seen, but also impossible to see the other side as well. She decided to walk around and unfortunately bumped into a soft and petite body.
"Ouch! Lexa that hurt!" Amanda snapped trying to get back up from the ground.
Lexa let out a sigh of relief. She was glad to see the girl instead of her stalker.
"Amanda! You have no idea how glad I am to see you!" she couldn't help herself and uncharacteristically hugged the younger girl.
"Umm Lexa are you okay?" Amanda asked not hugging the older girl back.
"Huh? Ummm…yeah of course why?" Lexa answered backing off of the girl and standing up straight.
"Umm…no reason. Now come on, Kitty's looking for us all of us." Amanda said pulling the older girl after her without giving her a chance to protest.
They dodged patrons and other servants and ended in an empty hallway. Then through random corridors that caused Lexa a headache trying to keep up where they were heading. After a few random twists and turns they arrived to a balcony where Kitty, Amara, and Jubilee were arguing about something.
"We're here!" Amanda said pushing Lexa in front.
"What is it Kitty?" Laura snapped.
"Calm down Lex I just came here to warn you guys err girls, but where's Betts and Wanda?"
"Who knows, but what do you mean warn us?"
"You girls have to go to the ship; our cover has been blown, the head of security knows each one of us isn't who we say we are and we have to go before they find us."
"But how?" Wanda interrupted.
"Umm when did you …never mind…how what?" Kitty stuttered.
"How did they find out?"
"Well, ummm…you see the true lady of Madrid or whatever showed up at the last minute and well now they know that there are two Senorita whatever your name was and their searching for us all. We all have to leave even Amanda and I understood?" Kitty managed to explain.
This sounded off, but if what Kitty was saying was remotely true then they really had to get out of there and fast.
"Fine let's go."
"What about Betts?" Asked Amara worried.
"She'll catch up…she always does." Lexa reassured.
"But what if she doesn't?" asked Jubilee making Lexa sigh.
"Fine you guys get out of here as fast as you can and I'll go in search of Betts we'll meet at the port and we'll set sail by sunrise."
They nodded their heads and headed off as discreetly as they could towards and exit. However, even though probably no one really noticed them a group of young men did.
Lexa shook her head and started off towards the main room, but noticed that one of the girls had stayed behind and without turning her head she asked, "Wanda why haven't you left?"
"Betts is also my friend, and I know you didn't come here to mingle and party, so go find her."
"Whatever Wanda I didn't-"
"Don't lie and just go your wasting time I'll go look for Betts." Wanda said leaving quietly.
Laura sighed and shook her head then headed towards the rooms opening doors and finding them empty. She opened another door and found that room empty as well. She stood at the doorway and looked down the hallway to see how many rooms she had left. She groaned when she saw that there was at least twenty other rooms on one side.
She began opening rooms and looking in back and forth that she became dizzy and the floor started to get dangerously close. She began to pitch forward, but right when she saw the floor inches from her face she also felt her body suddenly stop and two strong arms wrapped around her waist.
When she was pulled up she was pulled up flush against a man's chest. She tried to pull away, but the arms held her in place. Her eyes flashed when they met with familiar bright blue eyes. She placed her hands on his chest and tried to push herself off.
"Let go!"
"That's how you give thanks to your savior?"
"Thanks. Now let go!"
"Umm…how about no."
"I didn't ask for permission I demanded you to LET GO!" she growled.
"Who do think you are anyway, some kind of princess or something?"
"Actually I'm the lady of the court in Madrid, so let me go!"
"Are you now? What is your name if I may ask?"
"I have no reason to tell you." She sneered and she stepped on his foot…hard.
Her so called savior promptly let go to rub his injured foot giving her the perfect chance to escape. She ran as best as she could given that she was wearing the wretchedly pinched shoes. She had gone through too much and she was ready to just leave and forget about her so-called friend. However, that thought was interrupted when she ran right into a smaller body knocking over whoever it was.
"Oh I'm so…Kitty?" Lex said surprised.
"Yeah it's me uh do you have a minute…alone." Kitty said looking behind her.
"Don't mind me I was just heading out."
As soon as the self-proclaimed gentleman left Lex let out a sigh of relief.
"Uhh a little help here please?" Kitty asked from her position on the ground.
"Oh sorry…here." Lex pulled the tiny girl to her feet nearly toppling over as well…stupid shoes.
"So were you going to tell me why you lied to us all?"
Before Kitty spoke she looked back and forth so much it made Lex feel seasick.
"I think it's safe Kitty."
"Sorry just making sure. Ok I lied I don't know how you knew but sorry. Rogue needs our help tomorrow is the wedding only she wasn't supposed to know, but obviously the servants have to know to have everything prepared-"
"Kitty breathe and get to the point." Lexa said grabbing the girl's shoulders and shaking her.
"Right, well we actually need to help Rogue escape tonight, but we have no way of doing it." Kitty said.
"What makes you think I can help hmm?"
"Because Rogue needs us just trust me on this please." Kitty begged.
"Fine I'll give her another chance, but that's final!" Lexa stated.
"Come on!" Kitty said grabbing the girl's hand and nearly dragged her to the stables.
Meanwhile at the stables…
Rogue couldn't help but pace back in forth and scatter to the darkest parts of the stables at the slightest motion or noise. She was in midstride when she froze feeling the presence of someone behind her glaring.
"Well, well, well look who we have here it's little miss princess." A high-pitched voice screeched.
"What do you want Carol?" Rogue could recognize that annoying voice anywhere.
"Oh you'll find that my interests are the same as yours my lady." She spat.
Rogue turned to face the snitch-bitch-as Kitty had once called her- and proceeded to glare.
"Really and what would those interests be exactly?"
"Oh just to get you as far away from here as humanly possible." Carol said not backing off.
"And why should I believe you of all people? I know you hate me." Rogue challenged.
"As long as you never show your face here again I will do everything in my power to accomplish that goal." She answered sternly.
Rogue couldn't help but contemplate on the situation she was in and the distrust she had developed over time.
"Fine, but until then you will be loyal and will follow instructions. Oh and before I forget you cannot accuse us of any crime our names will not be tainted by you insolence we can do that all ourselves." Rogue answered with a slight smirk.
"Fine let us shake on it." She said holding out her hand.
"How am I supposed to know that you will not betray me with that single shake?" Rogue asked suspicion laced in her voice.
"You don't." Carol answered keeping her hand outstretched.
Rogue had to hide the slight smirk that fought to appear on her face. The girl was a spitfire if she weren't so intolerable she would suggest her to join their rankings. She took the girl's hand and shook it firmly.
"Deal."
"Snitch-bitch?!" Kitty's voice interrupted.
"Excuse me?" Carol sneered.
"Kitty…" Rogue cautioned.
"Rogue how could you ally yourself with this skank?!" Kitty asked turning on Rogue. Rogue couldn't help but feel hurt at the sight of Kitty's wide accusing eyes.
"She's still here." Carol said with a roll of her eyes.
"Kitty trust me she shares our same interest." Rogue answered with indifference.
"Kitty if Rogue says to trust her then we must, is that not what you pleaded I do not a few moments earlier?" Lexa spoke up surprising everyone even herself.
"Lex.."
"Not now Rogue."
"Right."
"Ok here's the deal I know a secret passageway that leads to the beach and close to the harbor."
"I can already hear the' but 'coming." Lex mumbled.
"Lex's right where's the catch?" Rogue asked.
"Well, it's haunted and anyone who dares step inside during midnight until dawn will be forever lost."
"Oh come on really a scary bedtime story has you all worked up?!" Kitty scoffed.
"How can I believe you?" Rogue asked.
"You'll just have to trust me."
Rogue crossed her arms and stared at the blonde searching for any sign of deception. Carol did not waver engaging in the staring contest.
"Fine tomorrow at midday we leave." Rogue responded after what seemed to be the equivalent of eternity.
"Wait what you can't be serious?!" Kitty scoffed in disbelief.
"As the plague." Lex deadpanned.
"I cannot believe either of you."
"You do not need to believe all you need to do is trust and follow." Carol sneered.
"Enough both of you!" Rogue instructed.
"We cannot possibly function if we kill each other like wild animals before!"
This seemed to make Kitty snap out of her rage filled revenue.
"Of course you're right as always Rogue. I do apologize for my outbursts." Kitty answered.
"Right then on to business." Rogue said nodding.
"Midday is the ceremony." Kitty said in realization.
"What ceremony?" Rogue asked.
"…"
"Well, am I going to have to beat it out of you all?" Rogue growled.
"Well…umm..you see..-" Kitty stammered.
"You're wedding ceremony my Lady." Carol mocked.
"Wedding?! And you tell me this NOW!" Rogue glared accusingly to Kitty.
"As much as I would love to see Kitty be put into place I will have to admit that we were only told a few moments ago about the arrangement." Carol interrupted shocking everyone including herself.
"Do not fret Rogue leave it up to us just wear proper shoes for running and we'll take care of the rest." Lexa stated coolly.
"No promises on the don't fret thing." Rogue sighed.
"Very well then a deal's a deal. Now Lady 'Syrena' let us lead you're way back to your chambers to retire you will need all the strength you can get for tomorrow." Carol said playing the loyal servant role once again.
Rogue sighed and turned to give Lex a subtle nod receiving one as well. Then without another glance behind her she followed Carol and Kitty back towards the fortress.
Meanwhile….
A man draped in a similar hooded cloak as the one the Lady wore smirked against the darkness. Having witnessed the whole exchange without a single glance at his direction was nothing out of the ordinary for him.
He was trained as a thief and rightfully so earned the title as the prince of thieves. He was a mercenary as well as a man. A man who couldn't help but leap at the chance of playing the knight in shining armor to a damsel in distress when it came around. Obviously after he got her eating out of his hands he would ruin her, because that's what the devil's spawn did.
For the right price…
