Chapter Ten

Normal (3rd person) POV

Suddenly, the man's hand was then on his shoulder and the purple clad genius faintly heard him say, "How very, very interesting" before feeling a prick in his shoulder of which the man was holding. It was then Donnie blacked out.

Chapter Eleven

Normal (3rd person) POV

Mikey let out a huff of air, "Shouldn't they be back by now?"

It was getting towards sunrise and Splinter forbidden them from being topside by this time.

"Yeah." Raph replied, a bottle in hand as he fed Jasper. Mikey sat beside him on the lounge, holding Bonnie, who slept in his arms.

"Do you think something went wrong?"

"… Yeah, I do."

"Should we tell Splinter?" Mikey asked hesitantly.

"Tell me what, my sons?"

Mikey let out a yelp and turned his head to see Splinter standing calmly beside them.

"Oh, uh – nothing. Just, um… Leo and Donnie… They're not back a-and it's getting towards sunrise and, well, you probably already-know-but-I-just-thought-y'know-maybe-we-should-,"

"That is enough, Michelangelo," Splinter spoke.

"Right. Heh." Mikey rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, his other arm still holding Bonnie against his chest.

"So, uh, what'ta we do, Sensei?" Raph asked, "I mean, they ain't answerin' our calls. Ya think somethin' went wrong?"

"Perhaps it would be best for you two to go search for your brothers." Splinter responded without answering Raphael's inquiry. He had a forbidding feeling about this...

Should have realised… they wore… I know… can't believe… miracle… I've missed them so much… Know… Any second…

Leonardo let out a moan. His head was pounding and those voices weren't helping... Ugh, his head…

"I told you."

Laughter. Leonardo moaned. Just shut up, please. The blue clad ninja felt himself be jerked back to reality once he realised he had no idea who these people talking were. The events flashed through his mind – had he blacked out? Taking a deep breath, he forced his eyes open and tried to remove the fog from his senses. He laid on something soft and cosy and opened his eyes to see it was a bed. He searched for the owners of the voices. One was the blue-and-red-headed male from the earlier events and the other…

Leo took in a sharp breath; the other was a mutant turtle, just like Leonardo and his brothers. The turtle's skin was dark green and his eyes coffee brown. But even the shock did not wipe away Leonardo's vagueness.

"Hi." The turtle said meekly. Leonardo opened his mouth but no words fell out. Say something, say something, say something!

"… Hi." Leo managed.

The turtle sat on the bed beside where Leonardo lay, "How do you feel? Are you okay?"

Instead of answering, Leonardo asked him who he was. The turtle breathed in sharply and a weak smile appeared on his face, "I-I'm… I'm Nicholas. You?"

Leonardo opened his mouth but once again nothing came out. His brain was fuzzy and his body ached. He wanted to close his eyes and go back to sleep. He was probably already asleep and about to wake up any moment… Any moment now…

"What is your name?" The turtle, Nicholas, pressed.

Leo hesitated, "I'm Leonardo."

"Leonardo." Nicholas mused, smiling.

The said turtle felt his stomach drop as the sudden thought hit like a bulldozer: where was Donnie? He looked around the room, as if expecting to see him suddenly appear there… But nope. His brother wasn't there. The blue clad turtle turned to Nicholas, asking if he knew, trying not to let his voice shake.

"He is fine," Nicholas replied, "Just sleeping."

"I want to see him." Leo demanded.

Nicholas opened his mouth, as if to argue, but then thought better. He stood and faced the door before speaking in a language Leonardo didn't understand. Unease was beginning to swirl in his gut as his memories became clearer. The man had said something about a place called 'Viridania'. That scene of the torn-apart women. Donnie and himself being knocked out. Him waking up here. Nicholas. Everything. Taking a deep breath, Leonardo followed Nicholas out of the room and into a hallway.

The floor of the hallway was covered in old-looking faded red mats and the walls looked like those of a cabin. There was a window nearby, coating the room in an orangey-golden glow. From here, Leonardo could see that wherever he was, he was surrounded by a forest. The sun – now nothing but a golden ball – was setting, and trees were all black against the orange sky. Leonardo turned back to Nicholas, his shoulders tensing. This was definitely not New York City.

Along the corridor were a few draperies and photos. The only difference between any of the doors was what was inscribed on them in a language unknown by Leonardo. The blue clad ninja couldn't help the anxiousness he felt at the lack of people. Finally, Nicholas stopped by a door and announced that this was where 'Donnie?' was. The door was opened to a room looking to be the same as the one Leonardo had been in; only Donatello was in the bed, not himself.

Leonardo walked in and towards the bed, fully aware of Nicholas' eyes on him. Donnie slept on the bed one arm above his head and resting on the headrest, while his other hand hung from the bed and his legs were tangled in the blanket. He was snoring softly, his coffee brown eyes closed.

"It would be best not to wake him." Nicholas stated.

Leonardo nodded and sat down on the bed, warmth spreading through him. Donnie was fine as was he. They could still get out of here. They could still get home unharmed… Which raised another question…

"Wh-Why are we here, anyways?" He couldn't help the weakness of his voice.

"Um…" Nicholas hesitated, "Because of me, actually."

"Because of-…?" Leo shook his head, "I don't understand."

Again his questions swarmed his mind, the latter flailing wildly. He didn't understand anything and that felt like a stab to his heart. He didn't know where he was, or how to get home. He didn't know who Nicholas was, what he wanted, how he'd come into existence, why and how he could look like Leonardo and his brothers. Leonardo felt lost within all the possibilities.

Nicholas let out a sigh and sat beside him, "This is going to be a long story… I-I know you won't like it. I know you won't. But… But you need to know. I need you to know."

"Just get to the point." Leo said, adding reluctantly, "… Please."

After all – he had no reason to be rude.

Nicholas nodded, "Okay, okay… Well, seventeen years ago, when you and your brothers were little-,"

Leonardo's heart went cold. 'I know you won't like it. I know you won't. But… but you need to know. I need you to know.' Leo had a feeling Nicholas was right – that he wouldn't like this.

"The point. Please. Just get to the point."

Nicholas nodded and heaved a sigh.

"I'm… I'm your father, Leonardo."
