AN: After some investimagation, I figured out that yes, Kirian and Spock did in fact go to Starfleet Academy at the same time. Can anyone say 'uh oh'?
Disclaimer:
I own nothing you recognise. This is all completely un-beta'd and totally fresh off the top of my brain!
Spock receives a message. It reads very simply: sim broke, help. The human proclivity to abbreviate is a matter of some frequent contention between himself and other members of Starfleet. While it is beneficial to maintain succinct communication, there is a point at which communication loses its clarity.
This message is an example of such. That the simulator is broken is clear – contextual information provides what the missive lacks. It has been sent by Ensign Yeti. He is the student technician currently on call for minor malfunctions.
Spock walks to the simulation centre. There are a host of simulation rooms, each set up with a different location in mind. Some feature the command deck. Others are simulations for engineering. A control room is annexed to each. Ensign Yeti waves at him from one such room.
"Thank you for coming so quickly, it just stopped working!" Ensign Yeti says as he holds the door to the simulation room open. Spock enters. It is an engineering simulation room. "I don't know why, it was just – hey where'd she -"
A ceiling panel drops open. A humanoid head and torso appear. She is upside down. "Oh hey," she says. She looks at him. "Ohhhhh heeeyyyy," she repeats. She scrutinises him from his feet to his hair. He raises a brow.
"To what end -" Spock pauses and takes a step back as she swings herself down from the ceiling and lands in front of him.
"All fixed," she says. Her eyebrows are Vulcan but for the lateral turn caudally. Her smile is not. Her hair, attempting to defy gravity, could be. She dusts her hands on her cadet uniform. Her cheeks flush pink.
Neither Vulcan nor Romulan.
"May I enquire as to your planet of origin?" Spock asks. She flashes him a quick smile.
"Only if I can buy you a drink," she replies.
