11. Three Half-Breeds & A Nanny (An episode for fun!)
LATER THAT DAY
After the breakfast was eaten, Piper decided to call Derek and his son while Leo tried to reach their former elf nanny again. Not easy since she seemed to be in hiding and Leo sighed not happy.
"Yeah, Derek, it's okay," Piper said into the receiver. "You can come over with Junior. We're just trying to call onto our nanny. Again. Our last babysitter was a total failure. Yeah, don't worry about it. Just come! Okay, bye."
Leo passed by a bit annoyed. "No luck on my side. I take it Derek and Junior will come over. When exactly?"
"Right after noon," the woman offered smiling. She kissed her husband lovingly. "Where are our boys, by the way? It's so quiet. Too quiet for my liking."
"Piper, you worry too much," the man said now smiling. "The boys are in the garden, playing in the grass. They were eager to go outside. Besides, let them have fun for once."
"Right. You had no luck with the elf nanny?" He shook his head. "Aw man. And here I thought she liked us and the boys."
"Ahem," came suddenly a familiar voice to their ears. Piper and Leo turned around in shock. It was the elf nanny—to their surprise. "I've heard you were looking for me and here I am. What's the matter?"
Piper began to babble. "Oh, it's you. You're back and thank you for coming. We could need you as our babysitter again. So would you, please?"
The elf nanny crossed her arms over her chest. "I didn't stutter last time, did I? I mean, there was a reason why I wouldn't come anymore. This still goes."
"We know," Leo cut in and knelt down to her level. "You were blackmailed by a demon who convinced you to quit us. To be honest, our latest babysitter was a...catastrophe and we want you back if you agree."
The elf nanny nodded. "Alright. But as I heard your boys are little devils. So okay, what do you want me to do?"
Leo and Piper looked at each other briefly before the woman spoke up, "You see, a friend of ours comes to us with his son, who's half demon, by the way, and we three parents want to go out for a while. In this time we want you to take care of the three boys."
"Wait. A half demon is a friend of your sons?" The Charmed One and former Elder nodded. "That's hard tobac if you ask me. But still, I will give it a shot—with these three. The names, please."
Leo said proudly, "Well, you already know our son Wyatt and now he has a younger brother named Chris. Their friend D.J. or just Junior came into our family over a year ago as we rescued him and his Dad from their demonic relatives. We've become closer friends over time."
"I see," the elf nanny only announced smiling. "When does your friend come and where are the boys?"
"Derek and his son come after noon, directly and the boys are in the garden, playing hopefully," Piper explained grinning at the elf.
"Right," the little woman said annoyed. She began to walk away. "I'm going to watch your boys while you do whatever you want." She headed to the garden.
When the elf was out of ear range, Leo took Piper's arm quickly. "You go to the kitchen, I'm staying behind—just in case. She could be shocked because of the new Chris here." His wife nodded and went to the kitchen while Leo watched from afar.
GARDEN
As the elf walked toward the children, she stopped all of a sudden. The younger boy reminded her strongly of the young whitelighter who had been here two years ago. How was that possible? She turned to Leo in question since she couldn't believe that.
"Yes, you're seeing right," the father spoke up from behind. "The young man from before is the same young boy you see at the moment here."
"But how and why?" the elf stuttered confused and gestured to the still playing boys. "I don't understand."
"I know." Leo watched his boys as well smiling. "Chris came back to save Wyatt from turning evil and paid for it with the ultimate sacrifice: his life. Since then Wyatt sees his little brother as his hero."
"Oh. But how?" The elf nanny began to be fascinated from this story but it seemed to be normal for the Halliwells.
Leo laughed a bit. "That's simple: Time travel. Yeah, we know it's forbidden but there was no other choice."
"Ah, okay." The elf nanny accepted this and began to walk away again. "Well then, I should get to know my new charge—before the other one arrives as well." The man stayed behind and just watched.
Wyatt recognized the elf nanny fast and run to her. "Nana," he said happily and hugged her. "Kwis, come to us."
The elf nanny looked at him in disbelief but her jaw dropped as she saw the younger boy standing up and slowly walking toward them. "Wow," she only said astonished. "I'm impressed, I think."
Wyatt grinned and so his Dad. "See, see," the boy continued babbling. He turned to the elf, "You pway wif us, right?" He simply took her hand and walked with her to his baby brother where the three of them started to play.
Leo watched them amused and started to walk to the kitchen but the ringing doorbell stopped his path. Sighing, he went to open it and was shocked. "Derek, Junior, you're early," he only offered confused.
Derek grinned. "Yeah, well, knowing Piper's cooking skills, I couldn't resist. And Junior wanted to see Wyatt and Chris again. So, can we?"
"Sure, step in." Leo stepped aside and father with son walked in. "The boys are playing with their nanny who is an elf, by the way. Piper's still cooking, I think."
"An elf? What happened to this young student?" Derek asked confused.
"That's a long story. Let Junior go to the boys while we join Piper in the kitchen." Derek sat his son down who immediately walked to his friends. The two fathers, however, went to the kitchen. Finally.
KITCHEN
"Look, Piper, who's already come to us," Leo said as he and Derek entered the kitchen. "It's Derek and Junior who's playing with the boys and the nanny. So are you ready?"
"Almost," she replied and then realized what her spouse had said. "Derek?! What's going on? Did anything happen?"
"Whoa, Piper, calm down," Derek cut in and stopped with that Piper's rant. "Nothing happened. It's just...we love your cooking and decided to come over earlier. It's okay with you, isn't it?"
She nodded. "Sure." She looked back to her cooking. "Alright, I'm done. Call the boys and the nanny and prepare the table!"
"I'll do the table," Derek quickly announced and grabbed the dishes.
Leo just shook his head amused and went back to the garden, again. As he came back, he had to hide his laughter, because the elf nanny was spun in a net. "Boys, what have you done now?" the father scolded amused. "By the way, time for lunch! Wash your hands!"
The three boys looked up at him innocently. Completely innocent before running to the bath.
Leo sighed and freed the nanny. "I'm sorry," he apologized. "Come and eat with us! I promise that the boys will behave at the table."
"Fine," the elf only said and walked straight to the table. The man simply followed her.
Unnoticed, someone invisible waited for his chance. To get his revenge—on the boy who had hurt his group badly two years ago.
LUNCH
Piper watched a bit confused how the boys ate their lunch in silence and tried, without success, by the way, to avoid the nanny with their looks. The nanny herself was not amused what wondered Piper. What had happened earlier? She looked at Leo for help.
Leo shook his head but told her with his eyes that he'd tell her later—when they were alone. But the boys' behavior amused him as well, like the nanny's.
Derek could only grin at his friends and at the boys. He knew he could be told later on. One thing he was sure of: the afternoon would be interesting—for all of them.
Several minutes later, the dishes were done and the adults were ready to go. The boys stood in front of them like little angels but the nanny had a suspicious look.
"Alright, you three," Piper said in a stern and final voice at the three boys. "You behave nicely and don't annoy the nanny too much. We're happy she's back, you know." All nodded very eagerly. "Okay then. Be nice!"
Leo, Derek and Piper walked out of the house what pleased the invisible demon. The nanny now went in front of the boys and gave them an amused look which they interpreted right. They were running through the house, straight to the garden.
LATER IN THE AFTERNOON
Three kids were playing and behaved like little angels whenever the nanny was looking. Though Wyatt, D.J. and Chris seemed to have an endless energy, it wasn't long until the youngest of the three was falling asleep in a standing position.
The elf noticed it immediately. "Okay, you two, go on, I'll take care of him." She quickly conjured a huge pillow and laid the boy on it smiling. "Very well."
For another hour it was rather quiet, except for the laughter of the older boys. Wyatt and D.J. had super fun in their games which sometimes included the nanny. Needless to say that the elf, of course, was not amused.
"Nana, pway wif us," Wyatt pleaded with his best weapon: puppy dog eyes, and his friend D.J. tried to do the same but failed. Unfortunately.
The elf nanny shook her head. "No, kiddo. Your baby brother is sleeping and I can't let him fall out of my radar. No chance!"
The two boys shared a suspicious look and then, all of a sudden, attacked the nanny who had no chance since Wyatt used his powers on her. Soon laughter was heard.
Behind a wall, the still invisible Scabber demon named Theo who could never forget the traitor in their midst. He was told that the traitor had been killed before but he didn't believe it. Still, it was time to act now!
Looking around and seeing the other three busy, Theo took a deep breath and then grabbed the sleeping child. Laughing, he was about to shimmer away when a cat jumped in front of him.
"Put the child down if you want to live!" the cat offered in a very calm voice.
Wyatt, D.J. and the elf nanny had by now noticed the situation. Wyatt was furious by seeing his little brother in a demon's hand but a bit relieved to see their cat. "Kitty," he whispered only.
Theo seemed to be encircled by two powerful beings. "Who are you?" he asked the cat confused. "And you can't threaten me: I have the child who's a traitor, by the way."
The cat just looked at the demon and took care of her paws. "You mistake the young boy for the older one. You are wrong since they are two different people. As for who I am: Just the protector of the child."
"Protector? You're kidding me!" Theo protested out loud and tightened his hold on the boy. Chris woke up and began to cry. "See. He's awake now and I know for sure that he is the one who was in our midst."
Wyatt shushed his friend and nanny as he seemed to remember what the demon spoke about. Chris was his hero—after all. What could he do? Thinking long, his eyes suddenly lit up as they had just discovered a new way of talking: telepathy!
'Kwis?' he began and opened their link. 'Don't look at me. Just tell me how feel.'
''Fraid. Man scawy,' Chris said and looked nervously around. 'What do?'
'Trust Kitty and me. We free you.' Wyatt nodded more to himself and also to the cat who just continued with her cleaning and nodded.
The cat itself, however, was not impressed. "Could be true but as I said, the two of them are different and you should accept this. Simple but easy, right?"
Theo shook his head. "No way, the boy's my leverage against you. And I must insist that he comes with me! He took too many out of us!"
"It's your death warrant," the cat just said and nodded briefly to Wyatt who immediately orbed his brother to him. Theo was in shock but even more as the cat changed into a shadowy figure. "As I said, you're dead."
The Scabber demon didn't even notice what killed him. A shadowy arm hit the demon who was reduced to ash.
Happy with the result, the Shadow turned to Wyatt. "It's okay, Wyatt. You all are safe again and I go back to my place. Your kitty is herself again. So, shsh." The Shadow turned to the elf nanny. "Oh, I haven't introduced myself to you. I'm the Shadow, of the Nexus here and I welcome you back, elf nanny."
"Oh. Okay, and thanks, I think," the elf nanny said and shook his hand. She looked at the now three playing children. "I can't believe it."
"It's okay," the Shadow said. "And now excuse me, I have to watch over the Halliwells."
"So do I. Over these three half-breeds." She laughed all of a sudden and all kids turned to her confused. "With you three it's never boring, is it?"
The three kids grinned at her and attacked her which caused all four of them to laugh and have fun for the rest of the day.
IN THE EVENING
As the three parents returned back to the Manor laughing, they heard laughter coming from inside as well which wondered Piper, Leo and Derek. Though they were curious what had happened over the day. Entering the house, the three stood behind a wall and just watched.
The elf nanny was tied to a thick broom and dressed like a cowboy while the three boys danced around her like little indians. And they even made the same sounds, though the youngest of the group had some trouble catching up.
The mother then decided to make their presence known. "Hey boys, we're back," Piper announced smiling and held her arms out.
Wyatt and Chris heard her voice and immediately ran into her arms. Snuggling into her embrace, the boys were happy.
Derek did the same with his Junior while Leo freed the nanny from her situation. Still, the man could not contain his curiosity, "What has happened today? Anything we should know about?"
The elf nanny looked briefly at the boys and then at the man saying, "Well, nothing unusual if you ask me. The three boys acted like little angels. We had a lot of fun."
Leo raised a skeptical eyebrow. "Really? That's hard to believe in this house."
The elf nanny crossed her arms over her chest. "It is," she insisted a bit angrily. Then she heard a call. "Right. I need to go now. Call me if you need me, again." And she was gone just as quickly.
"Weird," Leo only commented and scratched his head confused. Smiling then, he grabbed his youngest son out of Piper's arms and spun him around above his head. Chris squealed in delight.
Piper saw the happiness and now turned to her eldest son who tried to avoid her gaze. That told her something must have happened here. "Alright, baby, come with me to the kitchen. We're going to have a little talk." She took his hand and led him to the place.
Leo, on the other hand, stayed in the garden and played with his baby boy. He knew he shouldn't make the same mistake again but he couldn't help it. Chris held a special place in his heart, though the father loved both his sons equally. Leo realized that this trait ran in the whole family.
KITCHEN
Piper placed her baby on the kitchen table and prepared them something to eat. She could feel how her son's eyes followed her every move and also how nervous he seemed to be. That only confirmed her own suspicions. When she was ready, she placed the sandwiches in front of him.
"Thanks Mommy," Wyatt said and grabbed a piece quickly. He knew he couldn't avoid the questions.
"You're welcome, honey," his mother replied and pretended to be busy when she, all of a sudden, turned to him and placed her arms around him. "So honey, care to tell Mommy what happened today? I know something did."
Wyatt was caught off guard and began to stutter nervously, "I...I don't know what...what you mean, Mommy. And nothing did, I swear."
"You're as bad at lying as your aunt Phoebe," Piper offered smiling and then softened her voice. "I could barely see it but there was a scorch mark on the carpet."
Wyatt began to whistle, or at least tried to, and did not look at his mother. He knew she was right but if he told her the truth, he'd be given a long lecture and never get to play with Chris again. No way! He loved his little brother.
"All right, you don't want to," Piper said after some time. "But I promise you I'll find out, no matter what. Unless you tell me now. Otherwise, I won't have to punish you. Clear?"
Wyatt looked at his Mom in fear and knew she'd carry out this threat. He thought about it—long. "Well, if I tell you, no punish?" He showed her his best weapon, hoping it'd work.
The mother hid her laughter, full knowing that her baby boy could do it even better. "I promise. Scout's honor. And now tell me."
Wyatt sighed deeply and then told his mother all of what happened this afternoon. From their fun at the beginning and then the sudden break as a demon took Chris. What the elder boy saw was that the demon wanted revenge on his younger brother—for the older version, of course. But luckily, their kitty or the Shadow came to the rescue.
Piper said nothing at first but whatever she wanted to do was stopped as Leo walked in, with Chris in his arms, concerned and confused. She shook her head to him, telling her spouse she'd tell him later.
GARDEN, A BIT EARLIER
Leo was playing with his baby son who laughed happily but every time he stopped, Chris clung to him afraid. The father wondered what had made his son afraid. "Shsh, Chris, it's okay," he soothed his son and kissed him lovingly on his head.
"Dema," Chris said slowly and held onto his Daddy as if his life depended on it. He tried not to shake but he couldn't help it.
Leo's concern grew and he comforted his son the best way he knew. Holding him tightly, the Dad slowly walked back into the house, hoping his wife had an explanation.
BACK IN THE KITCHEN
Mother and son saw father and son walk in. Piper knew she could tell Leo later but for the moment, they'd enjoy their time with their boys. She smiled at them and offered, "How about we play a bit? Together?"
Wyatt and Chris squealed in delight and urged their parents to do so. Though the boys may have been tired already but they also enjoyed their time together with their Mom and Dad.
"Alright," Leo said and sat down on the carpet, still with Chris in his arms. "Let's play until one of you sleeps. No words here! That's settled."
However, the play hadn't lasted long. Soon both boys had fallen asleep and were brought to bed. Only then Piper told Leo everything she knew. They feel asleep in troubled thoughts.
