Casual Observations 11
"You better be careful, feelings like that usually only come in two forms, job satisfaction and marital satisfaction." Lee said as he and Amanda shared a laugh.
"Uh, well, that is other reason I called. I need your help with something. I think I got married that night. Can you come help me, please?"
The silence from his parents was almost more than he could handle. Matt knew that out of him and his twin sister he was considered more of the "sneaky" one. He had learned at an early age how not to get caught. Matt, couldn't remember a time when his older siblings wouldn't call him Bugsy Malone.
"Could one of you please say something because, um, oh shit. No, I don't have a rehearsal today. Why do you ask, Davis?"
"Are you no longer alone?" Amanda asked, concern lacing her voice.
"Yeah, I just found out myself that Jennie had a baby. I wonder where my twin sense was with that one."
"Is it your questionable wife?" Lee asked.
"It sure is, Davis, but I know this great pub we can all go to if you ever get over here." Matt said as Jordan wrapped her arms around his waist and gave him a quick kiss on his back before walking over to a chair by a window to read a book.
"We can't get there until after your sister gets home, it will be a few days. Well, maybe your dad can come first and then I can after I get her settled and have Katie help with Jennie so I can leave. Would that work for you, honey?" Amanda asked.
"Well, I have a concert in four days. You may be able to catch a flight over with my dad. He said he may fly over for it since my mom needs to be with my sister now. Not to mention, my Dad and I have a lot of things to work out."
"Yes, we do son. I will see you soon. We will get to the bottom of things. We love you."
"Hey you know what I always say, Mozart. I hope to see you soon, Davis."
Matt hung up with his parents and turned to his wife, at least he thought she was. He still wasn't sure about those events. He hated to involve his parents but he knew he needed help and his parents were the best at getting to the bottom of things.
"What are you reading, Jordan?" He asked as he moved closer to her.
"The Art of War, an assignment for a political science class I have tomorrow."
"My dad read that to me and my sister when we were younger. My mother said it was great strategy to read to us, but a very poor choice for five year olds."
"Well, I will remember that for our future children. Speaking of your parents, have you told them yet about us?" Jordan had hoped that when he was on the phone it was with his parents, but it clearly was not.
"No, not yet, they are trying to get things ready for when my sister and the baby come home. She apparently had a very difficult labor and almost lost the baby she also almost died." He got a faraway look in his eyes and Jordan hit him to bring him out of his revere.
"What of that look? You looked as if you were miles away just now."
"I was well, it's just odd. Jennie and I have always had a special bond. We really can communicate with one another without talking. When I was small, I almost drown at the lake with my brothers, dad, and uncle, she knew. She wouldn't leave Mom, Grandma, or Katie alone until my mom drove over an hour to show her I was fine. My mom didn't even find out until she got there. When Jennie was raped, I was at my Grandmother's. I called my brothers anyone that could go and check on her. I knew something was wrong and she was hurting." His deep brown eyes pinned her to her seat forcing her to look at him.
Jordan swallowed hard, "Wow, we sure do have a lot to learn about one another." She looked away from him. He was a good person, if she looked in his eyes long enough, would he learn who she really was? She held tight to the book her uncle had given her wondering how long it would take her to completely fall in love with a man she was sent to kill.
"Hey, talk about me, where were you just now?" Matt asked as he watched her knuckles go white as she tightened her grip on the book.
"You know what? I am starving let's go out into this lovely rain and get something to eat." Setting her book down and pulling Matt with her toward the door, they put on their shoes and set out into the sweet English rain.
Amanda came downstairs to sit with her husband to discuss the latest development in the lives of their children.
"I think I like Phillip the best. I love them all, but at this moment I think I like Phillip the best." Lee said with a sigh and a wave of his hand in his hair.
"Wow that is a bit surprising. It wouldn't have to do with the fact that he has the most normal life out of all of us?"
"That is exactly it. The biggest problem he ever came to me with was his struggling teenage feelings for Katie and not going all the way before they were married."
"Well, you and Phillip did hit it off pretty well right from the start. Jamie was okay with you at first until he realized you were here for the long haul. I think after he outed you though are when you two became really close."
"Yeah, I know, the great Scarecrow check mated by a twelve year old." Lee smiled remembering that morning over coffee and cereal when Jamie called him out on things between him and Amanda, including their marriage.
"We never really had many problems after that. Then we had the twins and we thought we were complete. Matt turned out to be a kleptomaniac, Jennie wanted to be one of the boys; until she found out she liked them more than wanting to be them. Matt turned out fine and has done well in the world with his music. I know now what he meant the other day when I called him to tell him about Jennie and he told me he was tired of being compared to me. I didn't know at the time he had been on a mission; I'll still have to ask Jason about that one. Amanda, I really love our children but now I know how Billy must have felt with you, me, Francine and Beaman."
"I know, Lee, what are we going to do about Matt; he needs both of us? Jennie will be home soon and she is going to need help, her surgery wasn't an easy one."
"I was just thinking about that and I have a solution for that." Lee looked into Amanda's eyes and he could tell she already knew what he was going to say.
Confirming his thoughts Amanda said, "Are you sure you want David to stay here with Jennie while we are gone?"
"That is exactly what I am saying, well, without saying it. He wants to be the hands on daddy and prove to Jennie that he never meant anything he said before he left, what if for once we take your advice and let these two sort it out while we are getting Bugsy back on track?"
"I think that is a great idea; I am just surprised that you came up with it, on your own, without anyone guiding you in that direction."
"Funny, very funny Amanda, I just think that they need to work things out. It is as clear as the nose on my face that he is over the moon mad for our daughter. She is just a lot like me, her trust was broken and that takes a big shot at a person's ego as well. I can tell she has already forgiven him, but she wants to believe in him again and that might take her some time, which is what he has to prove. If we give them the chance to be together alone, to work out their issues, then maybe just maybe all of our children can be happy at the same time."
"Okay, that takes care of the Jennie and Matt of it all. We still have to deal with one child and I am not confronting him alone. He was genuinely pissed on that message." Amanda pointed out.
"I know, I know, his message said he would see us in two days. I think it will be sooner than that. I think he is going to David's first. Amanda hand me your phone a minute."
Lee held the cell in his hand and when he heard who he wanted he said, "Do not react to anything I am saying to you. Are you already home?"
"Yes, of course." Kendra King smiled at her father in law over the phone, knowing what he was doing.
"When did you leave? Just say a number."
"Jamie isn't here. He went to David's. We left as soon as we got the text. Is Jennie okay?"
"She is fine, but I am worried about your husband." Lee said.
"He just wants to talk to David, the plane ride calmed him down a lot. He isn't going to do anything foolish, I assure you."
"David isn't at his apartment; he is at the hospital with Jennie and has been the whole time. Kendra, we will talk to you all later. Thanks."
"No problem, hey, JJ don't put that in your mouth. I have to go." Kendra hung up and Lee laughed trying to figure out what his granddaughter just put in her mouth.
Looking at Amanda Lee said, "Do you want to come with me or do you want me to stay out of it and help finish the baby's room?"
"You go handle Jamie, I'll finish the room, and then we will meet back here in our room for some us time; how does that sound?"
Leaning in to kiss her Lee whispered, "Can we just skip to that last one?"
"We could, but then even more chaos would consume this family, go now and stop the fire from spreading or we will never get to England." Amanda suggested.
Lee let out an exhausted sigh then left and headed for David's apartment. Twenty minutes later Lee found his son sitting on the floor in front of David's apartment silently crying.
Sitting next to him, Lee put his arm around Jamie as Jamie said, "I introduced him to her. This is my fault."
"Funny, I didn't realize that you were there with them." Lee said trying to get Jamie to see that it wasn't his fault.
"Dad, she never knew who David was until I asked her to help him with his dancing."
Smiling Lee said, "Jamie is doesn't matter how they met, they met. They fell in love on their own and they did what people in love do; they made love. Do you know what trust your sister felt with this man to even consider making love to him?"
"Jamie, Lee, what are you doing here?" David asked as he walked toward his door.
