An Unburdened Fury
Chapter 10: When Anger Meets Rage
Broly looked downwards at the carnage his transformation unleashed. Tur'Bdis had to be down there! As his eyes scanned the canyon of rubble, they came upon the body of Nere'se. A cold, creeping feeling wormed its way throughout his body at the sight and temporarily replaced his anger.
Adopting an aloof scowl, the blond giant floated down to his caretaker but stopped just out of arm's reach of her. Nere'Se was trapped underneath some debris from the floor above. "...Broly?" Ignoring the faint, tired voice of the woman, the youth removed the massive blocks of stone and metal and tossed them aside.
Her legs and left arm were crushed, there was no debate about that. The blood around her mouth suggested internal injuries. "Nere'se." The Legendary Super Saiyan replied as he knelt down by her body. His voice was emotionless and almost uncaring. She coughed up some more blood.
"It looks like you were right earlier about not dying tomorrow." The foreign emotion seemed to increase its depth at her attempt to make light of the situation. It was clear she knew her death was near as the woman gave him a weak smile.
Broly didn't respond as he moved closer and put a gargantuan hand behind her head. He lifted it slightly, shifting his arm so it supported most of her upper body in its sitting position. Beyond that minor act, the giant was clueless as to how to continue.
A hospital would help her but his transformation most likely took out the closest medical facility. Comfort her? Why did he even care enough about a lower being to even try? She is weak so she is nothing.
At least that's what he told himself...
His lingering anger transitioned to a murderous desire as he reminded himself of Tur'Bdis. This entire situation was his fault! "I will tear Tur'Bdis apart for this...and then the galaxy will feel my wrath." The last half was more of an afterthought but he spoke it aloud nevertheless.
Nere'se heard his mutter and, in a momentary panic, found the strength to grab onto his face so their eyes could make contact. "Please...Broly...kill Tur'Bdis if you must but spare everyone else! Please!" Nere'Se pleaded as tears began to gather at the corners of her eyes. Broly couldn't maintain eye contact and looked away with a hidden shame. "This is a second chance you've been given! Don't..." The caretaker took a few moments to regain some of her will. Her heavy breaths gave some hint to her rapidly deteriorating condition."...waste it with senseless slaughter."
There was no way he could do what she wanted, not with the infinite hatred and anger that he was barely keeping control of even at this point. His remaining sanity could not handle holding back this...ocean of animosity were he to start killing and the Legendary Super Saiyan knew that.
Broly shook his head to her noticeable horror. "I...I can't."
"But I'm..." Her body tensed up and a pain-filled grimace crossed Nere'Se's face. Her arms fell limp to the floor. "...begging you..."
Several moments of silence passed.
She was dead. He held her body close; his face betrayed no emotion.
She was dead. No breathing, no moving blood, no sign of life whatsoever.
Nere'Se was dead and he couldn't even tell her a lie so she could die with a semblance of happiness or even relief.
Broly gritted his teeth as he tried to remain quiet but a grief stricken howl ripped through the air despite his wishes. The sound of a rock hitting the ground alerted the Legendary Super Saiyan and he turned to see that a multitude of people from various floors saw his moment of weakness.
Tightening his hold on his caretaker's corpse, the youth floated upwards as his free hand lit up with ki. A flick of the wrist later and the prison was enveloped by a dome of green energy, killing all of its inhabitants instantly.
Struggling to maintain his composure, Broly landed only a few yards from the hole in the ground that used to contain him and laid his caretaker's body down.
How did this happen? How did he grow so attached to an ant he would've killed without a second thought so long ago?
The image of a red duo and the doctor went through Broly's head in response to the question. This was their fault. They thought themselves better than he, a veritable god, and with his profound arrogance, he proved them right! The bug man nearly killed him and Tur'Bdis...!
"Did you just beg?"
"RAAAAAAHHHH!" Screamed the blond giant as he shot off in a random direction; his head was empty save for a burning storm of wrath that could only be calmed by the blood of many.
The first city was reached within a few minutes. The order for evacuation had yet to be sent from their leaders so it was an average day for them.
Until now.
The citizens heard what sounded like the cry of an ancient behemoth coming towards the city gaining the curiosity of a majority of them. The curiosity turned to heart wrenching terror as half a dozen football sized orbs turned several skyscrapers into rubble killing thousands instantly.
Broly flew through the streets of the city with his shield up splattering civilians and knocking their hovering vehicles out of the way with his sheer momentum. His unholy scream of righteous fury didn't waver for a moment. Two more ki blasts were launched from his hands into the opposing sides of the road effectively erasing several dozen blocks of the metropolis.
With the city in full blown panic now, the Legendary Super Saiyan suddenly changed course and headed straight up. On the way, his screams turned into a joyous laughter as his sanity seemed to break. The sickly glow of his shield acted as a beacon of death for the powerless weaklings below. The giant turned around and held his glowing hands out.
"HAHAHAHA!"
A rapid series of blasts not unlike machine gun fire erupted from the Saiyan's outstretched hands and millions were devoured in the ensuing destruction. Broly's aura flared up and the giant rocketed away to a new target, his amusement apparent to any who saw him.
The next three cities shared similar fates as the first one as the evacuation order did not reach them in time. There was a morbid positive in this wanton slaughter as it distracted Broly long enough to get the cities that did receive the order to launch some shuttles into space.
Unfortunately, even in his cracked state of mind, the youth still had an instinct to look up whenever a strange shadow passed overhead.
These fools thought they could escape him!
Raising his shield once more, the blond youth raced after the ships that acted as the planet's saviors. He tore through one of the smaller vessels as if they were made of paper mache. Any of the passengers who survived the initial explosion were left to drift in the vacuum of space.
Broly stopped in the center of the group of fleeing ships and coated himself in a bubble of ki. Thrusting his arms out, the Legendary Super Saiyan let loose a torrent of blasts amidst his insane laughter that could only be heard by him.
The smaller ships were disintegrated completely while the larger ones had entire chunks of their hulls and inner workings erased. The largest one, easily several miles in length, was the only one to keep mostly intact due to its size but it wasn't moving anywhere since a stray blast took out its engines.
Broly shot into the flagship's side inadvertently causing some civilians to be sucked out into space. Lowering his shield, He flew towards where he thought the bridge would be, not letting himself be impeded by floors, walls, or bodies.
In the final seconds of his impromptu tour through one of Aciero's impressive feats of engineering, the giant broke through the door of the ship's bridge and encountered a security force of about twenty individuals with a terrified captain on the opposite side of the room.
Smiling a devilish smile, the Super Saiyan ran through the group without hesitation and grabbed the captain by his bulbous head. Swinging the man forward, Broly smashed his head through the bridge's monumental windows. In the instant thereafter, he raised his energy shield back up and tossed the man away.
Igniting his aura, Broly turned around and rammed into the ship once more but this time he started pushing against the hull rather than punching straight through the shell. The vessel, unable to resist without its thrusters, moved without hesitancy with the Legendary Super Saiyan's guiding hands.
What had once been a beacon of hope was turned into yet another disaster for the people of Aciero.
In mere moments, the ship became a flaming meteor with a cackling teen riding atop it.
Hours Later
The Smoldering Ruins of Aciero's Capital
Broly sat on a warped mass of partially melted metal with his elbows on his knees and his hands crossed in front of his face. The youth, back to his normal raven-haired self, contemplated his victory with a sober expression to his face.
He had done it.
After so many months of hopeless fantasies and empty threats on his part, Aciero was a dead planet. Yet, he was unsatisfied.
Why? His superiority was established and his victory absolute as it should be.
His power, nearly unstoppable before, was now unholy in its scope as a result of this new...ascension of his Super Saiyan transformation. The zenkai from his healed injuries was a great bonus as well.
Thinking back to his time spent in his new state, Broly couldn't help but grin. The experience was almost beautiful. All that power at his fingertips that did what he asked without hesitation and with an efficiency that rivaled his own ruthlessness. He could have taken out the planet with a mere thought rather than through any effort on his part.
Of course he didn't. After all, Aciero had to suffer.
Transitioning into that form had hurt though. A lot. Were it not for the continuous pain he had found himself in at that prison allowing him to gain a tolerance, he probably would have just passed out before completing the transformation. The strain his body felt once the adrenaline left his system forced him to return to his base state.
He would've stayed in the form otherwise; it was unreal.
That brought Broly back to his initial question; why?
Why, with such recent success, was he not in a celebratory mood? Why did he feel so...incomplete?
'Nere'Se.' The name came unbidden yet the youth felt it was as good an answer as any.
The Saiyan shot off from his seat and headed back to the destroyed prison.
Ten Minutes Later
The Prison
Broly stared at the poorly dug grave where his caretaker now resided. It was barely big enough for her body and the tombstone, if you could call it that, was a large chunk of metal from the pit that he used to reside in.
It just wasn't fair. Why was he the one to suffer as he had?
'Those two weaklings, Torbie and Galech. This is all their fault! And Tur'Bdis' as well!' Thought the young Saiyan as he hardened his heart at the sight of her final resting place. ''
Never again will this happen.
Never again will he allow himself to feel for another.
The clank of something hitting a stone floor reached Broly's ear. He snapped his head to the source seeing a hint of something moving out of sight behind one of the few standing buildings that were left.
A shock of light erupted as the youth became a Super Saiyan once more. Underestimating a potential threat was what caused all of this to happen in the first place. He rounded the corner within the blink of an eye and saw a group of survivors apparently trying to sneak away from him.
One of them held a cracked datapad which explained the sound he heard.
A cry of 'No.', much more despairing than the panicked noise the rest of the group, drew his attention to an alien missing an arm in doctor's robes...
"TUR'BDIS!" The teen thundered as he barreled through the survivors and grasped onto the man's collar. A light toss sent him tumbling along the rocky ground as the teen's power skyrocketed despite his already strained body. Each step he took to the downed man cracked the earth beneath with ease and his aura even burned some of those who were too close.
The doctor tried his damnedest to crawl away from the angry teen. The toss from Broly was deliberately far too weak to cause him harm. "Where's that confidence you displayed mere hours ago, Tur'Bdis?! Can't handle it now that I can fight back?!" The Super Saiyan grabbed the front of his coat with both hands.
He lifted the doctor up onto his two feet. "Stand up, you filthy coward!" Broly grabbed onto the back of Tur'Bdis' before the man could utter a word and pointed him so he could look upon what remained of his species. The Super Saiyan lifted a hand to them as they cowered in fear.
The doctor, realizing what his captor was about to do, started to squirm in Broly's grasp to regain his attention. "Don't! Please spare them at the very least! They had nothing to do with what I did!" He begged with all he had but the cold look in the scarred teen's eyes refused to waiver.
"I'll show them mercy." The momentary relief that swept through his body was promptly washed away as what he presumed to be the last of his species was destroyed in a vicious emerald glow. "You won't be so lucky."
Broly grabbed onto the sides of Tur'Bdis' head and put his thumbs to the alien's eyes.
The screams went on for miles.
They ended when the day of the planet turned to night.
During Broly's rampage across the planet, drones were sent out to capture the carnage as it happened. His new form was captured on film and added to the hundreds of distress signals that were being sent to planets throughout the South Galaxy. While Aciero's leaders knew that any help would arrive too late, this was done out of an altruistic desire to keep other civilizations from sharing their fate.
Upon seeing him wipe out a fleet of their ships, any hope of escaping him in the depths of space were dashed away.
A second wave of distress signals were sent to other galaxies. If there was anyone who had any chance of combating this monster, there was a good chance it would reach them...
Somewhere In the North Galaxy
'Lord Frieza is not going to like this...' Thought Zarbon as he walked to the bridge where the tyrant was located at the moment. The Planet Trade leader sat in his floating chair in the middle of the room overlooking the stars. "Excuse me, Lord Frieza."
The Arcosian sighed at having his solitude interrupted and turned around to level a cold gaze at the feminine man. "What is it, Zarbon?"
Zarbon managed to compose himself somewhat as he began to speak once more. His apprehension was still readily apparent. "We've intercepted an emergency transmission from a planet in the South Galaxy called Aciero and...uh..."
Frieza rolled his eyes at his subordinate's attempt to skate around the news. The transmission must have something unpleasant therein for Zarbon to be nervous. "Get to the point Zarbon."
Clearing his throat, the Planet Trade general moved ahead. "Well, its says a Saiyan escaped one of their prisons and began attacking the planet."
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes once more lest he repeat himself, Frieza decided on a bored look in response to the new information. "Is that it, Zarbon?" While another surviving Saiyan was unfortunate, it was unfortunate in that it called into question his ability to cause extinction.
'I might need to brush up on my skill a bit.' Thought the amused tyrant.
"Sir, I really think you should take a look at the message before dismissing it."
Frieza narrowed his eyes at Zarbon. It was out of character for him to insist on anything. "Fine, pull it up."
Zarbon pulled out a datapad of sorts and tapped on it a few times. An image of a dead-eyed, dark-haired teen popped up on the window that comprised the front of the room. Definitely Saiyan. A message of warning was written below the mugshot.
Neither of these were of interest to Frieza. What caught his eyes was the picture next to the mugshot. A blond giant was apparently attacking a city with the glee that was always seen on a Saiyan's face when sowing destruction.
According to the message, they were one and the same. Frieza's eyes widened imperceptibly with a cold fear at the potential implications.
Saiyans only transform into giant monkeys! The only other form they're even so much as rumored to turn into was...the Super Saiyan form.
The Arcosian gave Zarbon a sharp glare. "Get me the monkeys. Now."
A few minutes later, the trio of Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta was kneeling in front of Frieza with stoic facades in place. Vegeta was about to ask why they were summoned but the Planet Trade Emperor raised a hand. "Being Saiyans yourselves, I assume, foolishly so I believe, that you know more about your race than other sources." He pointed at the mugshot of 'Broly' as the transmission identified him.
The picture changed into the one of Broly in his transformed state. "So explain this and explain it quick."
Author's Note
Since this is a transitional period for our protagonist, I wanted to show a softer side to him while avoiding any overt displays of those kinds of emotions when it came to dealing with Nere'Se's death. Given how long it took to write this chapter, it's apparent that that wasn't an easy task.
In the end, I believe I did okay but definitely not my best work. I might rewrite this chapter down the road.
Anyways in amazing news, this story has hit 100 reviews! Wooooooooo! No special this time since the last one was quite literally the chapter before this...
The next special (if any of you are curious) will be when this story hits 200 reviews so...keep on reviewing if you wanna read it.
Oh, and for all those wondering, that was the Big Gete star at the end of the special ;)
Special thanks to The Kazekage of Suna for being my one hundredth review! By the way, y'all just have to read Signed: From Your Not So Loyal Author by him/her/it! (Don't know/forgot the gender of this particular author. Sorry o.o; ) It's pretty funny and updates frequently. Highly recommended if your day needs a little brightening up.
That's it for now I believe.
Don't forget to review before you leave!
Reviewer Responses!
18 freaking reviews since the last update! Let's keep this going!
J. Hellscythe: [The review was pretty long so go read it if you're curious of its contents.]
Thanks for this review! It really helped to shape this chapter.
ShadowFFD: Does Goku exist in this universe? And if so when ill they meet?
Goku does indeed exist. As for your second question, I don't even know the answer to that but it will happen in the future.
Omega Gogeta: One question though, when did this occur in Broly's timeline?
In that three week period before his landing on Aciero where he just destroyed planets willy nilly.
Kazuma Bushi: Turles got absorbed by the Big Gete Star? How did he even survive?
Turles did not survive the explosion but the Star revived what remained of him for use as its core. The Big Gete Star had practically nonexistent exposition so I took a few liberties with what it could do.
