Disclaimer: Chapter 11 and I still don't own YuGiOh.

Teana's eyes grew wide as she drew closer to the camp in the desert. It was true!

She looked down at the soldiers from her homeland and felt as though she were torn in half. She looked over her shoulder in the direction of Aigyptos and Seto before she looked ahead in the direction of her brothers.

No, she could stop this! She had to or countless people would futilely die. Spurring the horse forward, she rode towards the camp. As she did, she heard yells among the soldier as they grabbed their weapons, prepared to fight the oncoming intruder.

However, as she drew closer, she saw their faces change before they dropped their weapons and immediately bowed. Stopping the horse, she dismounted and was making her way towards the main tent when the flaps opened and she froze.

Eyes wide, she found herself staring into the eyes of Prince Darab.

"Darab?" she breathed as she looked up at her betrothed, the same man who had sold her. She backed away slightly and saw the flaps open once again.

Suddenly filled with confusion, her eyebrows knitted together and she asked, "Ophiuchus?"

"Teana," the man breathed, his eyes widening as he took her in. "Cousin, I thought you dead."

Shaking her head, she replied, "I was sold to a slave trader," and, turning towards Darab, continued, "by him."

"What?" Ophiuchus breathed and she nodded.

"It is true, cousin. He kidnapped me and sold me," she said and watched as Darab shook his head.

"Teana, beloved, surely you are mistaken," the Persian prince said as he moved towards her. However, she quickly shook her head and stepped away.

"Do not touch me, you snake!" she spit as she moved to stand besides her cousin.

Turning towards her cousin, she asked, "why have we declared war on Aigyptos, cousin?"

Looking down at her, Ophiuchus replied, "because of you," causing her to gasp.

"Me?" she breathed and he nodded.

"Yes, Teana. Shortly after you disappeared, there was word that you had been taken to Aigyptos and sold. Darab offered to journey to Aigyptos to seek you out. Upon arriving, he found you shortly afterwards before you disappeared once again. However, he sent word back to me and we realized that you had indeed been kidnapped. Immediately, we readied our men and set out," Ophiuchus said and she shook her head.

"But, he sold me!" she exclaimed as she pointed to Darab. "We cannot go to war with them for they have done no wrong."

"What?" Ophiuchus asked. "Teana, I was informed that you, a proud Spartan princess, was a slave in this land. Yet you say that they have done no wrong? Why do you defend the enemy?"

"No," she shook her head as she tried to get through to him. "They are not the enemy."

Turning towards Darab, she exclaimed, "he is!"

"Teana," her cousin said as he placed his hand on her shoulder. However, she shook his hand off and shook her head.

"Listen to me. This war must be stopped!" she exclaimed. Realizing that she wasn't getting through to him, she said, "surely my father will not go through with this when he sees that I am alive and safe."

With those words, she turned and headed into the tent, Darab and Ophiuchus following behind.

"Where is my father?" she breathed as she looked around the tent. Her father had never been absent from a battle and she knew that he would never be absent from a battle to reclaim her.

She turned towards her cousin and Darab and saw a smile cross both of their faces.

"Where is my father?" she asked again as she felt a feeling of terror run through her.

"Ah, my dear Teana," Ophiuchus smiled at her, "it truly is a surprise to see you alive."

"What?" she breathed and he chuckled, replying, "it does not matter. We have gotten what we wanted."

Confusion seizing her face, she looked from Darab to her cousin and asked, "what is going on? What have you gotten? And where is my father?!"

Although he was smiling at her, Ophiuchus' eyes were cold, Teana realized. Taking a step towards her, he replied, "why, he's dead."

The moment he said it, she felt the ground slip from beneath her feet and staggered backwards, her voice barely a whisper as she asked, "what?"

With a chuckle, Ophiuchus replied, "he's dead, Teana. He's been dead for at least three months now."

"Wha-what? Th-three mon-months? How?" she stuttered, unable to believe her ears. Her father was dead? No, he couldn't be dead.

As if reading her mind, Ophiuchus replied, "oh, but he is."

Looking at her shock filled face, he confessed, "I know because I was the one who killed him."

Immediately, she looked up at him, her face paling as she breathed, "what?"

With a laugh, he said, "much has changed since you disappeared. Your father became obsessed with finding you and led numerous voyages to find you. Of course, I knew exactly where you were. Dead in Aigyptos."

She looked up at him with confused eyes and he sighed before saying, "I see that you are in too much shock to realize what is going on."

Moving to sit, he said, "I shall explain everything to you. Take a seat, cousin."

Teana, however, merely stood there and stared back at him, too shocked to react.

"Sit, cousin," he gestured for her to sit once again. When she didn't move, anger flared in his eyes and he suddenly yelled, "sit down!"

Shaken, Teana moved forward and sat, watching as he smiled at her once again, although his eyes remained dangerous. As she looked at him, her mind was racing. Why was he doing this?

He had grown up with her and cared for her like a younger sister. Why was he suddenly doing this? As she looked at him, she suddenly questioned why she had never seen the evil and ruthlessness lurking in his eyes.

"Now," he smiled at her as he placed his hands together so that his fingertips touched, "shall we continue?"

"What did you do to my father, you beast?" Teana spit as she felt her strength begin to return.

Chuckling, he said, "aren't you still as tempered as ever?"

"What did you do?!" she screamed at him and he smiled at her.

"I poisoned him, my dear cousin," he replied and her eyes grew wide.

"What?" she asked and he nodded.

"You see, your father was getting in the way of my plan."

At the confused look on her face, he explained, "I overheard your father arranging your marriage to Darab and I knew at once that I would never be able to become the king. So, I devised a plan to kill your father and then you."

"However, Darab saved me the hassle of having to kill you," he said as he gestured towards Darab.

"You see, Teana," Darab began, "I have been looking for a reason to go to war with Aigyptos for a long time now. Their land is so expansive and rich. When your father arranged your marriage to me, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to declare war on them."

"By selling me to Aigyptos and counting on me dying," Teana breathed and he nodded.

"Exactly," he chuckled. "It was rather simple. All I had to do was declare war on Aigyptos because one of its citizens had kidnapped and killed my betrothed."

"I learned of his plan," Ophiuchus piped up, "and I could not say no for it would allow both of us to get what we wanted. Bidding our time, we had you kidnapped and sold and I poisoned your father. But," he paused.

Glaring at her, he said, "you somehow managed to run away and ruined the plan for we did not know where you were or if you were still alive."

"Darab, however," her cousin continued, "assured me that the plan could go on as originally decided. We didn't necessarily need your dead body to prove that you had been kidnapped and killed."

"Because we had this," Darab said as he held up a pendant. Immediately, her eyes grew wide and she gasped.

"My royal pendant," she said and they nodded.

"What better proof of you being kidnapped and killed by a citizen from Aigyptos than discovering your necklace in this land?" Ophiuchus smirked.

"But, I am alive and well. You cannot go to war," she breathed. "The soldiers all saw me enter the tent, alive and well. You cannot kill me nor can you use me to declare war."

However, they both laughed and Ophiuchus pointed out, "they saw you riding towards our camp as if Hades himself were after you. Surely, they will not think that you were treated kindly nor can they deny that you were indeed a prisoner in this land."

At his words, her eyes grew wide and she shook her head. "No, they cannot do that."

"Oh, they will because they are under my control now. I am their king and they will never go against my orders. Besides, those soldiers are not all your brothers. Many of them belong to the Persian army," Ophiuchus said as he stood and walked towards her.

Immediately, she got to her feet and, glaring up at him, spit, "you will not succeed in your plan. You will pay for killing my father and kidnapping me. I assure you that you will die, you traitor. You will pay for your sins."

His eyes widened at her words before he chuckled. Then, without warning, his hand shot out and slapped her across the face, causing her to stagger back.

She touched her lip and, upon seeing the blood, chuckled at him, "slap me as much as you want but I see the fear in your eyes."

She saw his face contort in anger before his control snapped and he snatched at her.

"I will seize this land and then I will personally kill you," he smiled down at her, "making sure to savor your face as the life leaves your body."

With those words, he flung her towards Darab and said, "tie her up! And ready your army as well. At dawn, we go to war."

As Darab moved to tie her up, the tent flaps opened once again as Ophiuchus exited and another figure entered, causing her eyes to grow wide.

"Beset?" she breathed as she looked back at the girl.

Chuckling, the girl replied, "ah, princess," before she gave her a mock bow.

"Why are you here?" she asked as the girl walked towards Darab. Her eyes grew wide as she saw him bend down and press a kiss to the girl's lips.

"Do you understand now?" Beset asked, smiling at Teana.

"You were with him all along?" she asked and the girl chuckled. Immediately, Teana recalled Ata's warning and her eyes grew wide. All along, she had thought that Ata had been her enemy but she had been mistaken.

"You are not as stupid as you look, Teana," Beset replied before she nodded and said, "yes, I was with him."

"But why?" Teana breathed and watched as the girl's face brightened, giving her a terrifyingly evil appearance.

"Because he promised me that I could rule as his queen," she said.

"So you betray your land? Your people?" Teana asked.

"I do not care for any of them," Beset replied in an as-a-matter-of-factly voice. "I shall soon be their queen."

"You're not even worthy of ruling over dung beetles," Teana spit at her and watched as her face changed as anger seized her features.

"You bitch!" Beset yelled as she slapped Teana. However, Teana chuckled and continued, "you do not know the first thing about being a queen."

"Be quiet!" Beset hissed at her but Teana continued, "you are nothing but a filthy commoner!"

"I said be quiet!" Beset yelled as she delivered another slap to Teana's face.

"Beset, that is enough!" Darab said, shaking his head. "Do not kill her just yet."

With those words, Darab shoved her into a corner and smiled down at her.

"Enjoy your last day alive, princess," before he and Beset left the tent. As Teana watched them leave, she made up her mind. She would stop this war even if it was the last thing she did!

She refused to allow the people of Aigyptos lost their lives because of greediness.

After all, it was her duty as a Spartan to defend those who could not protect themselves, no matter the cost.

Seto looked at the rising sun and turned his attention towards the soldier gathered below him.

His voice clear and powerful, he said, "today, we go to war against the Spartans."

"We will conquer them and slay their soldiers. After that, no one will ever again question or challenge the power of Kemet nor of the Pharaoh!"

Cheering erupted from the crowd and he yelled, "prepare yourselves! Get ready to move out!"

With those words, he turned away and headed towards the door. As he did, he saw Atem looking at him with grave eyes.

"Cousin," Atem said, "please rethink this."

However, Seto shook his head and said, "it is too late for us to turn back. We must either fight or surrender. I do not intend to relinquish my kingdom without a battle."

"But, Seto, think of Teana. She can stop this," Atem said and Seto's eyes flashed dangerously.

"Do not mention that traitor! She is the cause of all of this!" he thundered as he walked past his cousin. "She is the spy who caused this! How can she stop it?!"

"Cousin, she is no spy!" he exclaimed and Seto spun to look at him, demanding, "how do you know that?!"

"Because she is a princess!" Atem yelled and Seto's eyes grew wide.

"What?" he breathed and Atem nodded.

"It is true, cousin. She is Princess Teana of Sparta!" he said and Seto felt as though the ground had slipped from beneath his feet.

She was the princess? The very same one he had often heard about from other rulers?

His mind racing, he recalled his conversation with her and his eyes grew wide.

No, I learned from the royal he- from the royal Princess. I learned from the Princess.

She had stopped herself from revealing her true identity to him. But why?

Suddenly, anger consumed him as he realized that he had been lied to even more than he had thought.

"So, you knew the truth all along?!" he demanded as he looked at Atem, who sighed and nodded.

"How wonderful, Atem," Seto shook his head. "Tell me, did the two of you enjoy making me a fool?"

Immediately, Atem shook his head and replied, "that was not my intention at all!"

"Then what was your intention?" Seto bit out.

"I wanted her to return you to your prior self!" Atem yelled back and Seto froze.

"What?" he breathed and Atem nodded.

"Since Kisara's death, you have changed, cousin. You became colder and more distant in your heartache. You pushed everyone away and built up your walls," Atem shook his head. "A ruler cannot be cold and cruel. He must be forgiving and understanding."

When Seto said nothing, Atem continued, "stop this war, Seto. Do not let countless people die for no reason."

Seto didn't respond and Atem held his breath, hoping that he had gotten though to his cousin.

When Seto did speak, he said, "I am sorry, my cousin. I truly am. But, this war cannot be stopped."

Feeling his control leave him, Atem exclaimed, "then you are a fool! Your foolish decision will result in the death of hundreds!"

"I am the Pharaoh!" Seto thundered.

"Yet you do not rule as a Pharaoh! You are going to war because of a broken heart and bruised pride!" Atem said and Seto's eyes narrowed.

"Again, I am the Pharaoh, Atem," he hissed. "Do you dare to question me?"

Atem clenched his jaw and shook his head.

"No, I do not," he replied as he turned to walk away. However, he stopped and turned back to Seto, saying, "but I do question my cousin. Seto, can you look into the face of the woman you love and kill her?"

With those words, he turned and left, Seto staring after him as his mind raced.

Inhaling deeply, Seto looked away and shook his head. He was doing the right thing! He was protecting his people and asserting his power!

Shaking his head, he growled, "we are going to war!"

"No," Teana groaned as she struggled, crawling along the floor of the tent in search of something sharp. Her eyes fell on a dagger but it was too far away. She looked down at her bound feet which were tied to a corner of the tent and let out a frustrated groan.

The sun had just risen and the army had set off for battle. If she didn't get out now, hundreds would die.

Her mind flashed to Seto and she felt fear pierce her heart. She knew that he would die as well. There was no way that he would be able to fight her cousin.

Struggling, she was aware that blood was running down her wrists as she fought to get out of the ropes but paid no mind to it.

Not seeing another option, she turned her body and began to bite at the ropes in hopes of freeing herself. As she did, the flaps of the tent suddenly opened and she looked up.

"Ata!" Teana breathed as she looked up at the girl. What was she doing here?

"We do not have much time," Ata said, not even bothering to explain why she was there. She quickly grabbed the dagger and cut the ropes binding Teana.

Helping her to her feet, she said, "you are the only one who can stop this battle."

"But, why are you here?" Teana breathed and Ata gave her a small smile.

"I followed you. When you rode through the village, I saw you and I followed you," Ata replied.

"But, I thought that you didn't like me," Teana breathed and Ata shook her head.

"At first, I did not," she confessed. "I thought that you were in love with Atem."

"Atem?" Teana breathed, her eyes wide.

"Yes," Ata said, blushing suddenly. Immediately, Teana gasped and asked, "are you two in love?"

With a small nod, Ata replied, "we are betrothed."

"But, why were you a dancer?" Teana asked, confused.

"I was Atem's betrothed since birth," Ata explained. "To protect me, I was sent to live in the village until I became of age. When I learned the truth, I went to see him but he refused to marry me, despite having never seen me. So, I decided to pose as a dancer and managed to become a part of his royal court."

"Eventually, we fell in love but he was torn because I was a commoner, and he could not marry a commoner," Ata chuckled. "When he discovered that I was in fact his betrothed, he was overjoyed and announced his intention to marry me after he handed the throne to Seto."

"When you joined his court, I was worried that you were going to steal him from me and," she gave Teana a slightly ashamed look, "I was jealous."

Smiling, Teana shook her head and said, "I care for him as a brother."

"I realized that after I saw how you looked at Seto and how he looked at you," Ata said and Teana's face instantly sobered.

"He loves you, Teana," Ata said, "but he is too blinded by his heartbreak to see the truth. That is why you must stop this war before lives are lost for no reason."

Nodding, Teana looked around and her eyes fell on armor that had been left behind.

"I shall protect those who need me," she vowed as she grabbed the armor. Stripping down, she pulled on the armor and turned towards Ata and said, "please get yourself to safety."

"But, where are you going?" Ata asked as she watched Teana don the armor.

"Into battle," Teana said before she turned and left the tent.

Just as she did, a figure leapt out at her.

"Teana!" Ata yelled in warning. Quickly dodging, she found herself face to face with Beset.

"I knew that you would try to escape," the girl shot out and Teana saw a dagger in her hand.

"But I refuse to let you ruin everything. Why wait until later today to kill you?" she demanded before she leapt towards Teana, the dagger raised.

"Teana!" Ata yelled again. Teana quickly dodged her attack and, looking around, saw a shield. Running, she grabbed the shield and spun around in time to block another attack.

Adrenaline flowing through her, Teana managed to hit Beset in the face with the shield before, taking advantage of Beset's moment lapse in attention, she pried the dagger from the girl's hand.

"I do not wish to kill you," Teana said but Beset, enraged, ran towards her. Jumping out of the way, Teana quickly turned and stabbed Beset with the dagger. Pulling it out, she watched as Beset's wide eyes looked back at her before she fell in the sand, dead.

Looking down at the dagger, Teana wiped the blood off of it and placed it in the armor just as Ata joined her.

With a parting nod at Ata, she mounted the horse she had stolen and promised herself that she would stop this war no matter the cost.

Teana's eyes grew wide as she stared back at the battle field, the sight of blood and dead bodies greeting her.

"No, it has started," she breathed to herself. Nudging the horse, she rode into the battlefield, her eyes searching for Seto or her cousin.

As she dismounted the horse and rushed into battle, her eyes fell on Atem.

Suddenly, a man appeared behind him and raised his sword to run him through.

"No!" she yelled. Hearing her, Atem quickly turned and jumped out of the way just as the sword came down, catching his shield. As he righted himself, his eyes sought her out but she had already disappeared.

Seto quickly blocked an attack before plunging his sword down, incapacitating his attacker. Turning, he caught sight of another soldier who was standing frozen, staring at the scene unfolding.

With a yell, he ran towards the soldier just as he turned around. However, he was not fast enough and Seto brought his sword down.

Teana felt a sudden searing pain in her side as the sword made contact. Gasping from the pain and from the force of the attack, she fell to the ground, her helmet falling off as she hit the ground.

Seto watched as his sword managed to nick the soldier and he fell to the ground. Just as Seto raised his sword to deliver the fatal blow, the soldier hit the ground and his helmet fell off.

Immediately, Seto's eyes grew wide and he froze, unable to believe what he was seeing.

Teana stared up into Seto's shocked face and it seemed as though everything suddenly froze around them.

"Go ahead, Seto," she whispered to him as tears came to her eyes, "kill me."

He looked down at her, frozen, before he slowly staggered backwards, shaking his head.

"Why are you here? You shouldn't be in battle," he was saying. She was a woman. She shouldn't be on the battlefield at all.

He looked down at his sword and then at her and realized with nausea that it was her blood on his sword.

Without thinking, he grabbed the horn at his waist and blew into it.

"Stop!" he bellowed and Teana watched as the fighting ceased.

Immediately, there were cries of "Princess Teana!" throughout the crowd but Teana merely look up at Seto and said with tear filled eyes, "kill me Seto."

As he looked down at her pitiful state, Seto felt like running himself through with his sword.
