Previously… (BPOV)
School was both boring and tiring and I couldn't wait to finally go home and relax. But, of course, there was no chance that would ever happen. Elena told me today, that there was an event, the 'Historical Society Volunteer Picnic', in which we could go for fun and also help. I also noticed today how weird Elena and Stefan reacted to each other and I decided to ask her about it.
"What's up with you and Stefan?" I asked her and she looked away from me, averting her eyes and looking down at the floor, as we walked to her car.
"Whatever it is, you can say it Elena." I said and she looked at me.
"I will tell you, but not here." She said, as we reached her car. We got inside and Elena started the car. I turned to look at her as soon as we were out of the school parking lot.
"So? What is it with you and Stefan? You've been acting weird all day." I said and she sighed before answering.
"We pretend to fight." She said and I was taken aback by her answer.
"And…why is that? I thought you and Stefan were great together." I said and a small smile appeared on her lips.
"Yeah, I know. It's just that Stefan and I think that…Caroline is talking to Katherine and…reporting whatever happens between us." She said and shrugged her shoulders. Katherine again. It's the second time I hear about her today, and she is staring to really get on my nerves.
"So…you pretend to fight and Caroline tells it to Katherine." I said and she nodded.
"That's not weird at all." I said with a laugh and Elena grinned at me.

We were currently at Elena's room and I was getting dressed for this event we were going to. I had earlier told Charlie that we were going at this, so he knew where I was going to be. From now on, I will try to lie less to him about where I'm going, except for emergencies of course.
I wore a pair of black skinny jeans and black ballerinas I owned and a V-neck stripped blouse in grey and black, that Elena had given me to match the rest. I put on some lip balm too. Elena was wearing a white tank top, that had and elephant print on it and blue jean shorts with her navy blue converse. She had put on a pink lipstick and some black mascara.
"Ready to go?" She asked me.
"I think so?" I said and it came out as a question, making us both laugh as we walked out of her house and headed to the park.
Now… (BPOV)
"This is all part of the Historical Society that is continuing their efforts for the good of the community. Thanks to the generous donation of the Fell family, we are now standing on the site of our newest public park. Thank you to everyone who showed up today to lend a helping hand." Mrs. Lockwood said with a smile, on the microphone and applause erupted from the people standing there.
I saw Elena and Caroline helping to paint something and I decided to go help them. I walked over to them and smiled at both of them.
"Hey, Caroline. How have you been?" I asked her politely. She looked up at me, sarcasm and boredom defining her features.
"Everything is just great. Just great." She said, returning to what she was doing, without a second glance in my direction. I looked at Elena questioningly and she just shook her head, as if she was telling me to drop it.
"Can I help with something?" I asked and Elena smiled at me, before nodding.
"Sure you can. Take a paint brush, if you want and do what we are doing. Be careful not to get paint on your clothes though." She said and I agreed by taking a paint brush myself. Elena and I talked while we were painting and at one moment, I looked up and my smile fell from my face. Damon had fallen to his knees and was coughing violently, while Stefan stood beside him and was trying to help him up to his feet. I turned to Elena, as I stood up.
"What happened to Damon?" I asked in panic, as I started walking to them, without waiting for Elena's answer. I heard her and Caroline following behind me. I sat next to Damon and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Are you ok Damon? What happened?" I asked him as he slowly stood up.
"I'm going to kill that son of a bitch!" He said with a hoarse voice. He took the bottle of water that Stefan offered him and he drunk it in one gulp.
"Who are you going to kill, Damon? What happened?" I asked him frantically.
"Mason. That's what happened." He said his voice still hoarse.
"Mason Lockwood? What did he do, Damon?" I asked him and instead Stefan was the one to answer.
"He put vervain in all the lemonade." Stefan told me. Damon looked behind Stefan's shoulder and his gaze became cold. I turned to look where he was staring at and I saw Mason taking big, black garbage bins, to the woods.
"We are going after him." Damon said to Stefan and they started walking towards the woods.
"He's a dead man." Damon muttered coldly and I turned to look, in shock, to Elena and Caroline.
"What are we doing standing here? Let's go!" I said to them and started walking behind Stefan and Damon.
"Bella! Wait! Bella!" Elena shouted behind me, but I didn't turn around. I had a really bad feeling about the whole thing and didn't want to let Stefan and Damon out of my sight. I heard Elena and Caroline following behind me, when suddenly we reached a place that looked to be a clearing, where Damon, Stefan and Mason were standing. I started walking towards them, but someone now had a firm hold of my arm and I turned my head around in breakneck speed, to see who it was. Caroline placed a hand on my mouth to stop me from speaking and I looked into her eyes in both question and panic.
"Don't speak, Bella. Someone is here." She whispered to me. "Will you stay quiet if I let you?" She asked and I nodded quickly. She took her hand off my mouth and stood next to Elena that looked really panicked.
"What happened? Why didn't you let me go to them?" I whispered to both of them.
"Because my mom is out there!" Caroline hissed in a hushed tone. My brows furrowed together in confusion.
"What do you mean 'your mom is out there'? What is she doing here?" I whispered.
"It's a trap, Bella! She knows they are vampires, Stefan and Damon. Mason told her. I heard them!" She said, her tone rising slightly. I knew that something bad was going to happen. Suddenly, I heard the sound of two gun shots and I looked around in panic. I turned to Caroline.
"What happened? Can you hear?" I asked her and she hushed me. Elena was standing behind Caroline, looking deep in thought. Caroline took me by my elbow, doing the same thing with Elena and then everything became a blur of colors and light, taking my breath away. When we suddenly stopped and I could see normally again, I understood that Caroline had taken us somewhere with vampire speed. But where were we?
"Where did you bring us?" Elena asked her, voicing my thoughts.
"They are down there." Caroline said, pointing at what seemed like an underground chamber.
"I'm going in." Elena said and started walking towards the stairs that seemed to lead down there, but she was stopped by Caroline her back.
"We can't go in there, Elena. My mom is in there, and she can't know I'm a vampire!" Caroline said quickly.
"We can't let them Caroline! She will kill them!" I said.
"I'm going." Elena said, and before Caroline could stop her, started walking and I followed behind her. I heard Caroline cursing, behind me, under her breath. When we got down there, we heard voices and decided to follow them.
"I'm your friend Liz. I am your best friend." I heard Damon say with a groan. We walked further in and I saw Liz, Caroline's mom, pointing a gun at Damon and an unconscious Stefan, lying beside him. Suddenly, I saw a body, which was actually a deputy, falling to the ground, blood flowing freely from his neck. And next to the body, was Caroline, looking wild and scary, with purple veins under her eyes and blood smeared around her mouth. Her face relaxed and she had a sad and remorseful expression, as she looked at her mom.
"Hi, Mom." She whispered. Shock and disgust was written all over her mom's face.
"What…Why are you-…I can't believe this." Liz muttered.
"I'm sorry Mom." Caroline whispered.
"Don't kill them Liz. Please." Elena said to Liz and she turned to Elena.
"You don't know anything Elena. We have to do it. It's for everyone's good." Liz said to her.
"I know what they are, Liz. But, please don't kill them." Elena said desperately. She then walked to Stefan and placed her wrist to his mouth.
"Come on, Stefan. Drink. You said we were going to do this together." She whispered to him. Damon had slowly stood up and gone to the deputy that Caroline had bitten and started drinking from his neck. It was the first time ever, that I saw Damon drinking what he craved as the vampire he was and I didn't know what to feel. When he finished, he stood up and slowly walked to Liz. She took a step back the closer he got and I was afraid of what he was going to do. She hadn't spoken at all since Caroline had revealed herself, but I could guess at what was passing through her mind.
"I can't believe my daughter is now a monster, the kind that I've been trying to find and kill for my whole life, all the time I was in the police force. She is not my daughter anymore." She said looking ahead, at nothing in particular.
"I'm not going to kill you Liz. I can't kill you. You are my best friend." He said and she looked up at him. "We will wait until the vervain is out of your system and then we will make everything as it was before." He said and Liz shook her head.
"Nothing can be as it was before." She murmured.
-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-
After taking Liz to the Boarding House and locking her in a room in the basement, we all sat in the living room, everyone deep in their own thoughts.
"How long is she going to stay down there?" I asked no one in particular, but Damon answered me.
"For as long as it takes for the vervain to leave her system. We will then compel her and she will be free to go." Damon said and I nodded.
"What's the excuse of her absence?" I asked.
"Something personal she had to take care of." He said shrugging. I nodded and slowly stood up.
"I'd like to go home now, if you don't mind." I said.
"Yeah, sure. Call if you need anything." Elena said and I nodded. I slowly walked out of the house, thinking of the warm shower I was going to have when I got home. It was definitely needed after such a day.
-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-
After about fifteen or twenty minutes, I reached home and after I saw that Charlie was out, I went upstairs to take a shower. I took off my clothes, leaving Elena's blouse out, so that I could give it to her later. I went under the shower, letting the warm water relax my tense muscles. When I got out of the shower, I wrapped a big fluffy towel around my body and quickly blow dried my hair, before walking to my bedroom. I should know better, by now, that to just go in my bedroom with just a towel covering the parts that needed to be covered. Damon was standing in front of my wardrobe, looking through my clothes lazily, as if he owned the place.
"I can't believe you! I can't believe it you came here, again, when I'm only in a towel! You are such a pervert!" I said to him accusingly. He turned to me with a smirk, looking me up and down and making me blush deeply.
"That I am. And believe it quickly, because we don't have enough time." He said before going back to looking through my wardrobe.
"What do you mean? We don't have enough time for what?" I asked him confused. He continued inspecting my clothes, while he answered me.
"Remember what I told you in the car yesterday?" He asked me.
"You told me a lot of things Damon." I said. He sighed dramatically.
"Whatever. The plan is to go find Mason and then Bonnie will do her witchy-woo on him to discover anything that has to do with the moonstone. Simple as that." He said shrugging.
"Are you serious? And you think-…" I started saying.
"Put this on." He said interrupting me and throwing at me a dress he found in my wardrobe.
"What? No! That's the only dress I own Damon! And I'm not wearing it! No way!" I exclaimed, giving him my dress back. There was a reason why I have never worn that dress. My ass could be seen from a mile away in that dress.
"Way." He said stubbornly, throwing it at me again. I took it with an annoyed huff and went to my bathroom to put it on privately. It was a darker shade of red, with little black dots on it, almost invisible. It was mid-thigh length, a little above my knees. It was the only dress I owned and that was because Renee had given it to me as a Christmas present, the year before I moved to Forks. It was still new, since I had never worn it.
When I had it on, I let my hair fall in my back freely and then made my way out of the bathroom and to my room. Damon turned to look at me, appraising me. His eyes roamed up and down my body, making me blush.
"Hello legs." He said smirking and I blushed even more. "It's good. Really good. But we should add something more." He said, nodding to himself. He went to my jewelry box and after looking through the few accessories I owned, he took out a black, triple-wrap bracelet and placed it around my wrist. He silently started looking through my shoe collection, only to turn to me with a disappointed expression on his face.
"Don't you have high heels? Or even heel booties?" He asked me and I rolled my eyes at him.
"There's no chance I would still be alive, if I wore high heels." I said sarcastically. But it was completely true. Me and heels just didn't cooperate well.
"You will go shopping with me one day." He said and I shook my head. He took my black ballerinas and gave them to me.
"Those will have to do." He said, nodding to himself again. I took them from his hands and pulled them on.
"And why do I have to dress up like that?" I asked him and he rolled his eyes.
"Have you formally met Mason?" He asked me. I thought about it for a second, but nothing came to my mind and I shook my head at him.
"Well it's time you do. And you should be dressed up for a reason." He said.
"Meaning?" I asked him. He sighed, walking out of the room and going downstairs, with me following behind him.
"We will trick him and you...will be...let's say, the bait." He said casually. I glared at him.
"Thank you very much Damon." I said angrily, but he didn't say anything. We walked together out of the main door of the house and got into Damon's car, which was in the driveway. Once we were inside, Damon started the car and started driving.
"Where are we going to find Bonnie?" I asked him.
"She's at the Lockwood's. They are preparing for the Masquerade Ball and she went to help." He said.
"Ok. What is this Masquerade Ball? Another event?" I asked him and I groaned. "What is it with this town and events? Don't you have other things to do?" I asked with a sigh. Damon shrugged beside me with a grin. Do you think it's funny?
When we reached the Lockwood's house, we found Bonnie outside, helping to move something.
"Hey, Bonnie." I greeted her with a smile and she smiled back.
"Oh, forget the greetings. We have to get to work." Damon said from behind me impatiently.
"Have some patience Damon. It doesn't work like that." Bonnie said.
"All you have to do is touch Mason Lockwood, to see if he gave Katherine the moonstone." He said to her.
"My visions don't work like that. I don't get to ask questions." She said shaking her head. Damon rolled his eyes.
"How inconvenient. Although, let's talk about that witchy thing you do with me. You know…" He said, moving his hands to his head. "…the funny one where my brain bursts into flames? What is that one?" He asked, looking quite irritated. Bonnie smirked.
"That's me, giving you an aneurysm." She said and I remembered the night at the carnival, where Bonnie had done something like that.
"Is that what you did at the carnival?" I asked her.
"Yeah, that was the one. Basically, your blood vessels go pop, but you heal quickly, so I do it over and over again." She explained smirking.
"Does it work only on vampires?" Damon asked her and she shook her head.
"It works on any supernatural beings that heal quickly." She said.
"That's good. That's really good." He said in thought, nodding.
"Ok. You, Bella." He said, pointing at me. "You start talking to Mason, after you find him of course. Then you, " He pointed at Bonnie "you do the witchy-woo with the aneurism, to him, while Bella is distracting him and then I appear" He said and pointed at himself with a smirk "and knock him out cold. But we have to do everything quickly. From then on it's all a piece of cake." He said. I nodded with a sigh. Damon disappeared, but Bonnie stayed close by. I looked around, trying to find Mason and I found him carrying what looked like a table, a few feet away from us. I plastered a smile on my face and started walking to him.
"Hey!" I called to him, trying to look as enthusiastic as I could and he looked up.
"Yes?" He asked me. Think quickly Bella! Think!
"Are you Mason Lockwood? Tyler's uncle?" I asked him, trying to keep the fake smile on my face.
"Yes, that would be me. Who are you?" He asked suspiciously and I let out a nervous chuckle.
"I know Tyler from school. He speaks very fondly of you." I said and mentally slapped myself. How lame was that?
"He does? Well that's a wonder." He said.
"Oh, how silly of me. I haven't introduced myself. I'm Bella Swan." I said and shook his hand.
"I'm Mason Lock-…" Before he could finish his sentence, he stopped, placing both hands on his head, much like Damon did in the carnival that night. Mason groaned loudly. That must hurt like a bitch I thought, wincing slightly, as I saw him falling to his knees. Damon appeared out of nowhere and hit him in the head, knocking him out.
"That was good." He said to Bonnie, and then turned to me. "You said too much. Introductions weren't needed." He said to me and I glared at him.
"What did you expect me to say, Damon? I didn't know what to say." I exclaimed.
"Stop fighting you too and let's go, before someone sees us." Bonnie said to us. We were not fighting! Why would be fighting?
"Whatever." I muttered.
-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-
After putting Mason in the car, we drove to the Boarding House, as instructed by Damon of course. I didn't even want to think about what he wanted to do to Mason.
Damon had dumped Mason in a chair in front of the fireplace. Bonnie was helping him with whatever he needed help with and I stood in a corner, silently observing anything. I didn't want to get further into this. I already had helped. That was it.
"Grab that corner." Damon said to Bonnie, pointing at the corner of the carpet. He was holding a blanket in his hands.
"Why are we doing this?" Bonnie asked him.
"Because I don't want to stain the carpet." He said smirking. Bonnie shook her head at his answer.
"I knew you were going to say something like that." She said. Are they talking about what I think they are talking about?
"Hm. Judging again." Damon said with a sigh.
"Come on; let's pull this over the rug." He said to her and I went to help them. We pulled the blanket over the carpet. Bonnie went to Mason and took his head in her hands.
"Did you bring his bag?" Damon asked her and she nodded without opening her eyes.
"Yeah. It's right there." She said and Damon started taking chains out of Mason's bag and tying Mason to the chair.
"What are you doing?" Damon asked her, when he saw her taking Mason's head in her hands.
"You are looking for a moonstone. I'm trying to help you find it." She said without even opening her eyes.
"Oh, good, yeah. Find out if he gave it to Katherine and find out where she is. And find out what they are going to do with it once they get it." He said quickly, nodding to himself. Bonnie had a look of deep concentration, as she held Mason's head in her hands.
"It's somewhere small and dark. There is water." She said slowly. Damon looked at her.
"You mean like a sewer?" He asked her and she hesitantly shook her head.
"Maybe, like a well? No, that can't be right." She murmured frustrated. "Yeah. It's a well." She said finally. She opened her eyes and took her hands off Mason's head.
"Why would it be in a well?" Damon asked her.
"Mason thought it would be good to hide it in a well. There must be a reason behind his decision though." I said thoughtfully.
"I told you Damon. I only get what I get." Bonnie said and started walking to the door. Damon looked up from Mason, to Bonnie.
"Hey, Judgey?" He called to Bonnie and she turned around to look at him. "Thank you." He said to her and she nodded and left.
"You are not going to hurt him are you?" I asked him and he looked at me.
"I am going to give him what he deserves." He said.
I wasn't going to stay there and watch a person getting hurt or even dying.
"I'm going." I murmured, but Damon didn't seem to hear me. He was talking to Mason.
"Come on. Wake up, wolf boy."
-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-
When I went back home, I took off my clothes and changed into something comfortable. Charlie was out at work again, so I was home alone. He has been working a lot lately and I barely saw him.
Since I was home alone, I decided to put a movie on and decided to see 'Home Alone'. What an irony, I know. Halfway through the movie, I decided to call Elena and see if there was something new. After a few rings, she picked up.
"Hey Bella." She said and I noticed she sounded kind of tired.
"Are you ok Elena? You sound a little down." I said.
"No, everything is fine actually." She said.
"And how's that?" I asked her curiously.
"Well, we now have the moonstone." She said and I quickly stood up from the couch.
"Really? Was it where Bonne said it was?" I asked her.
"Yes, it was in the well, but…it was full of vervain." She said. Hm. Seems like Mason didn't trust Katherine much.
"Stefan got in there and…we had to quickly pull him out." She said with a tired sigh.
"Is he ok now?" I asked her worriedly.
"Yes, he's ok. Plus, we have the moonstone." She said.
"I guess that's good" I said. "I'll stay at home for the rest of the day. The last few days, had been really tiring." I said to her.
"That's ok. I think we can handle everything. And thank you for today. You know, for helping out with Mason. Damon told me." She said.
"It's nothing. The truth is, I just dressed up and went out and talked to a guy. Everything else was Bonnie and Damon." I said.
"Ok. Bye." She said.
"Bye Elena. See you tomorrow." I said and ended the call. I sighed and continued watching the rest of the movie. So many days before, I wanted to just stay at home for a day and relax. But, now I was kind of bored out of my mind. Whatever.
After the movie finished, I went upstairs to do my homework. After a while, at about eight or nine o' clock in the evening, Charlie came home. And after our usual small talk, I said goodnight and went upstairs to change into my pajamas and go to sleep. When I came out of the bathroom, after brushing my teeth, I laid down on the bed, waiting for sleep to come. But then, I heard the familiar tap on the window that I had some time to hear. My heart raced, as I slowly stood up and went to look out of the window. And sure enough, the black crow was there. I opened the window and the crow flew inside the room, changing into Damon on the way.
He sat at the end of my bed, looking down at his hands. He seemed deep in thought, with worry lines on his forehead, his eyebrows furrowed together.
"Did something happen?" I asked him in a low voice, afraid of the answer and afraid of Charlie hearing us.
"A lot happened." He murmured. I sat down beside him.
"Elena told me that you got the moonstone." I said and he nodded. "That's good, right?" I asked hesitantly. Damon shook his head to himself.
"I'm stupid. I'm really stupid." He murmured to himself.
"Why? What happened?" I asked him.
"A lot of things happened Bella. And it's my entire fault." He said.
"Tell me. Please." I said to him.
'Well, first of all, Mason is a dead man, we now have the moonstone which I hid in a place that no one would think to search in. And the worst thing I did today and which I'm really stupid of" he said that with his head hidden in his hands "was, to provoke Katherine by calling her and telling her that I killed Mason and that I have the moonstone. Which led to her hurting someone." He said. I hesitantly placed my hand on his shoulder and he seemed to relax a little.
"Who?" I whispered and he looked up at me.
"Jenna." He said and I gasped.
"What happened to her? Is she ok?" I asked him frantically.
"She'll live. She's ok. The thing is, this is my entire fault. I wasn't thinking. I wasn't thinking at all." He said. He went to put his head in his hands again, but I placed my hands on each side of his face, forcing him to look at me.
"It's ok, Damon." I murmured. "Everything will be fine." I said and leaned closer to him as I hesitantly placed my lips softly over his. He pulled away after a moment.
"I have something to give you." He said, smirking a little.
