Broken Chapter 10
So. Hey guys. I've been rather absent on here, and I have good reasons. I was grounded… Whoops. I've been writing this chapter on my phone, so forgive any grammar problems. It's rather hard to write on ^^''In fact, I'm still grounded. It may be a little while before I upload next… Sorry.
I hope the length makes up for the wait! Enjoy!

"Listen, Yuuki..." Kuruno started, his facial expression tense. He looked as if he couldn't put what he wanted to say into words.
He started to speak, but my concentration was abruptly broken by a flash of movement in the darkness of the fire escape. The shiny metal of a gun sliced through the darkness of the night illuminated by the moonlight and sent my heart into ragged beats laced with ice. Was this how it would end? No… that's stupid! Kuruno would protect me, right?
'No… I'm tired of being some damsel in distress!' Something within me snapped and I leapt across the bed, my body weight knocking Kuruno off the edge of the bed.
"Yuuki, are you coming on to me? I knew you had feelings for me..." Kuruno chuckled and if I wasn't preoccupied with the intruder outside our window, I probably would've hit him for that.
"Shut up you pervert! Someone's out on the fire escape with a gun-" I started to speak but the piercing sound of shattering glass severed the sentence caught in my throat.
Suddenly I was on my back, with Kuruno standing over me as a human… err, vampire shield. Growls echoed through the small hotel room and the sickening sound of flesh meeting flesh met my ears before I could register what had happened.
Kuruno had moved faster than I had thought possible, tackling the male figure to the ground that crashed into our room. The two rolled about, snarling and hitting one another without restraint. I vaguely thought about how crappy the surveillance was on the hotel, but that thought quickly vanished when a familiar voice met my ears.
"What have you done to her?!" The masculine voice snarled with fear lacing his tone. Angry and terrified violet eyes met mine and stole my breath.
"Zero...?" I whispered and moved closer, my eyes wide with disbelief. Zero came for me…? Why would he care about me; a weak and pathetic girl? Kuruno quickly shot up and stood with his back to me.
"Yuuki, get back!" Kuruno snarled, glaring at the silverette dressed in a hooded cloak.
"Kuruno, he's not our enemy! Stop it!" I said, hysterical when I saw Kuruno preparing to lunge once more.
"Oh, a stranger dressed in all black hanging out in our fire escape suddenly breaks through the window and attacks us with a gun, and he isn't our enemy?" Kuruno spat, rolling his eyes. "Jeez Yuuki, I'd hate to see what it takes to get on your bad side."
"Yeah? Imagine how I feel, pureblood scum. A vampire suddenly kidnaps my... Yuuki, and I'm supposed to knock on your door and ask you out for tea?" Zero spat back with sarcasm dripping from his voice. His violet eyes were lit with an anger I'd never seen in him before.
"Just an FYI, I didn't kidnap her."
"I didn't just get felt up by some woman with a broken nose, chased by police for stealing a motorcycle, and cut by a window to hear that. Don't lie to me, buddy." Zero spat, glaring at Kuruno.
"That broken nose was thanks to my little Yuuki here. And was getting felt up really such a bad thing? Don't complain about what's free, little boy." Kuruno said with a smug expression on his face. Was he trying to challenge Zero?
"Second of all, I didn't kidnap her. She was almost dead when I found her, and was busy being ravaged by a level E. If I hadn't have been there, she would've been dead by now. So I think you owe me a thank you."
Zero opened his mouth to respond but instead froze, looking over at me with a shocked expression. He was suddenly by my side, gently tugging off my bandage with a shocked expression. His eyes swiftly turned murderous and he slowly turned around baring his fangs with a snarl.
"I'm going to kill you for this..." Zero said in an eerily calm tone, moving to pull Bloody Rose out of his pocket . "You monster! Have you let your thirst for blood consume what little sanity you have left?!"
"Zero, stop!" I said, tackling him to the ground and straddling his thighs. Shock flitted across his violet eyes, and I almost felt bad for taking advantage of his distraction. The gun skidded across the floor, the dull metal glimmering with the dim light of the hotel lamp.
"Yuuki... Are you cheating on me...?" Kuruno gasped in mock despair, covering his eyes as if he 99couldn't bear the sight.
"Wait... You and him are... You..." Zero started, and I'd never seen Zero so flustered before and yet... Depressed? .
'Probably that I had such bad taste in men... Not that I'm interested in Kuruno! He's too... I don't know. But there's no way!'
"Guys, can you stop for just a few seconds..?" I sighed, rubbing my forehead with impatience. "No, Kuruno and I are not dating. Kuruno, can you stop antagonizing him?"
"Zero, I couldn't go back after all of that... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you, if it hurt you at all." I whispered, closing my eyes and expecting him to burst into anger; maybe even hit me. I was expecting everything except for what he actually did.
Arms circles around my shoulders, pulling me into a lean frame tightly. I could feel Zero breathing and burying his head into my neck. His fingers knotted in my shirt, immobilizing me against his shaking form.
"I'm just glad you're okay... You scared me so much. I'm sorry I didn't protect you... Yuuki..." Zero shuddered with his eyes full of sorrow.
"It's not your fault... Plus, I'm okay right now, see?" I said, smiling at how Zero was finally opening up to me after all of these years. "It's okay..."
"Okay, now that the hugfest is over you can take your leave." Kuruno said, grasping my wrist and hoisting me up with a grin. I stumbled, falling back into his arms, not noticing the look he shot at Zero.
"Kuruno! Stop being so rude... Zero, will you stay with me...? Please...?" I said, holding out my hand to my childhood friend. Kuruno scoffed from behind me, making me roll my eyes at his idiotic behavior. What has gotten into him?
Zero used my hand to pull up, yanking me back into his arms with a glare at Kuruno. "Of course I will, Yuuki. I'd never forgive myself if you got hurt..."
Kuruno glared back at Zero, and I started to feel like a chew toy between two dogs being tugged back and forth. What was wrong with them? Zero had never been so actively protective before, and Kuruno was uncharacteristically tense.
"Anyways..." I said, looking between the two of them. "Zero, how did you find us?"
"I tracked your scent mostly, and got a lot of information from the GPS in your phone. After that, it was easy because you traveled through a lot of close knit towns where I could ask locals if they'd seen you."
"Stalker..." Kuruno muttered, earning himself an elbow to the ribs. He rubbed his chest and shot me a look as if to ask 'What did I do?'
"In any case, we're being hunted right now by Kuruno's father... He's after us to get Kuruno back. He's been tracking us for a while, which is why we've been running so much." I said, and Zero merely nodded.
"I thought I could smell another pureblood..." Zero said, rubbing his thumb over his thigh. "Question, why is Kuruno still here, then? Why doesn't he just go back?"
"If I go back, there's a good chance that all mortals will be enslaved by vampires." Kuruno said point blank, as if he was discussing the weather. Zero nodded, as if the thought didn't surprise him. "The purebloods are discussing what they want to do, and my father will have a lot of political support if I go back. He will force me to marry this woman so that some pureblood family will also fall behind him, and if that happens then all mortals will be enslaved or killed."
"Well, that settles that. We keep on moving, then. I can try to contact the Headmaster, but even if he does get the word out about the purebloods plot, nobody is going to listen." Zero sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"If you tell this to the peace loving higher ups, they're going to laugh and blow you off. Even if it was from a legendary vampire hunter like Headmaster, they probably won't take it half as seriously as they should."
"That's true. I doubt even the Hunter's association would believe us without proof. Hell, I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it myself." Kuruno sighed, rubbing his forehead with frustration.
"So… What do we do now?" I spoke up, but it was fairly obvious what we would have to do. We'd have to get proof right from the source, and I had a feeling I wasn't going to like this one bit.
"Well. We'll have to figure out a way to get into my father's study without being seen." Kuruno said with a distant look in his eyes.
"Anyways, it's getting kind of late. Zero, you can stay with us if you'd like, but I think we should continue this in the morning. All of us are kind of stressed out and tired, so I think some sleep will do us good."
"You really think we can stay in here after the huge ruckus we caused? I'm pretty sure someone called the cops." Zero stated, sighing at the broken window before standing and holding his hand out to me.
"Yeah. Let's go, Princess." Kuruno said, standing up and mirroring Zeros stance with a grin.

"Sorry, but all we have available is a double room. Our usual suites have all been booked for the weekend, and no single rooms are available. If you'd like to wait until tomorrow evening, there will be a single room open at abou—"
"No thanks. Just give us what you have." Zero said, a look of contempt on his face. Apparently, he didn't like the idea of having to share a room with Kuruno. Who would've thought?
"Why are all of the rooms booked? It isn't even a holiday weekend." Zero muttered, glaring at the floor.
"I think the real question is, who's going to sleep with Yuuki? I can say, I surely wouldn't mind…" Kuruno said, grabbing a tendril of my hair and pressing it to his lips.
Zero's pale hand quickly slapped Kuruno's hand away, pushing him backwards with a glare.
"If anyone is going to sleep with Yuuki it'll be me, you hideous creature." Zero spat, his eyes narrowed in his famous go-to-hell glare.
"In case you hadn't realized you're one of us. Nice insult. And I hope you guys are at least using protection." Zero's eyes widened at the innuendo, disgust flashing across his features.
"I'm not sleeping with anyone, you idiot! I'm a virgin!" I blurted out, not thinking about my words until after I said them. Both Zero and Kuruno looked shocked at my outburst, which irritated me.
Who did they think I was?! As if it wasn't obvious enough. I never dated much, since Zero would usually scare off any guys interested in me. Plus I barely had time for friends between school and the disciplinary committee, much less time for a boyfriend.
"…Well, want me to change that for you?" Kuruno smirked, walking up to me and tilting my chin upwards with his finger. A heavy blush coated my cheeks, matching the red handprint that marred his cheek just moments after.
"Shut up you pervert! Both of you are sleeping in the other bed!" I huffed stomping into the bathroom to change my clothes, not noticing the possessive and ultimately enraged glare that Zero sent to Kuruno.
I slid to the floor with one hand pressed to my chest and the other cupping my forehead. Why was my heart beating out of control? His face was inches from mine; if I had breathed too deeply, our lips would've been brushing. Stupid pervert…
Shaking my head, I decided to focus instead on the fact that Zero was here. Why did he care so much? In all of my memories of him, he never seemed to show much emotion towards me. Yeah, he would defend me, but he rarely defended me while I was present. The absolute terror that he expressed when his gaze met mine… Was it possible that Zero truly did care about me?
A frustrated sigh left my lips, but I couldn't ponder it forever. Thinking about it would only lead to more confusion. I quickly showered, dragging my feet to put on my clothes. As I dressed, I looked at the neat holes in my neck. It was hard for me to believe that any of this was really happening. A year ago I would've laughed at the idea of letting a vampire drink from me, much less forcing it onto him.
I paused outside the door, gulping slightly. Why was I so nervous to converse with Zero? I had just seen him, but even still… I felt like he would be disappointed in me.
As soon as I opened the door trembling arms encircled me, grasping my sides. I briefly wondered where Kuruno had gone, but that thought escaped my head after I felt his trembling body.
"Yuuki… I was so scared. Please… don't do that again to me. Don't leave me again…" Zero whispered, his voice joyful yet pained. I must've been hallucinating, but I could've sworn I felt a water droplet kiss my head.
"I won't, Zero… I promise."

Kuruno had left to contact an "old friend" about ways to get into his father's study. I had protested about him sharing our plans with this friend, but Kuruno reassured me that he wouldn't tell.
Zero and I had gone out for the day since Kuruno had practically vanished, talking about everything that happened while I was gone. Apparently, when Zero had decided to come after me, the headmaster had hired three new teenagers to man the disciplinary committee in our absence. Apparently they had caused quite a ruckus, but Zero hadn't cared to learn their names.
"Why couldn't they have hired them while we were still there?" I said with a hint of aggravation. Of course they would hire new people after we left; it wasn't like we begged for years to have new members on the committee or anything. We were just getting back into the hotel, trailing through the lobby side by side.
"That's exactly what I said." Zero said, nodding in agreement. Those pesky fangirls had annoyed us for so long, and we had spread ourselves so thin when replacements could've been hired so easily?
"Geez. I'm pretty sure that even if those fangirls knew that they were vampires, they would still try to get close to them. Ever heard of the book Twilight, Zero?" I questioned as we walked into the elevator with a grin.
"No… why?" Zero asked, looking extremely confused by the random statement.
"It's a book about vampires who sparkle like disco balls in the sunlight. Anyways, a lot of girls freak out over the book and say that they would want to be turned, and some go as far as to hunt vampires just to get bit."
"What?!" Zero exclaimed, making me laugh at his absolute shock. "Please tell me you're kidding."
"Nope. Personally, I found the book kind of romantic…" Zero scoffed, rolling his eyes at me. We walked out of the elevator, crossing to just in front of our door while I fished through my small purse for the key to our room.
"Of course you would, Yu—" Zero broke off after he stepped inside the door, glaring at something inside.
"What is it, Zero?" I said, trailing in behind him only to be stopped by his pale yet muscular arm.
A man with black hair and sharp blue eyes that were almost white stared back at us, a grin plastered to his face. He resembled Kuruno so much that I had to take a step back, and briefly wondered if Kuruno had dyed his hair black. He sauntered forward, grabbing a piece of my hair and bringing it to his lips with a wink.
"So this is the Yuuki I've heard so much about…"
