Chapter Eleven
Answers
It was late at night and they were still in the lava swears, questioning Sam. So far what Nivenna and Ladro`n learned was that Sam was born in a different world where most of his people thought Perim was a made up place for a game could Chaotic.
They both thought at first that Sam was completely crazy and somehow made the whole thing up in his ill mind, but the picture of that creature that Sam claims is Nivenna's twin sister had made Nivenna want to keep asking questions.
After he told them of Chaotic, they began to ask about the game. They had asked him of the creatures he battled as and he said mostly Underworlders, but he had a scan of a M'arrillian that he liked to use. That caught them off guard.
"Wait the M'arrillians never existed!" Ladro`n shouted.
Ignoring Ladro`n's out burst, Nivenna asked Sam: " When and where did you scan this M'arrillian?"
"Six months ago in the River Lands." Sam said.
"Is that where the M'arrillians live, in the River Lands?" she asked.
"No." he said, flatly.
"Then where do they live at?"
"Behind the Doors of the Deep Mines."
Nivenna didn't like his answer. The Doors of the Deep Mines is located in the Underworld next to the borders of the other Tribes, but it is a natrul location. The only creatures allowed there are the four guards posted there by all four of the Tribes to keep anyone from trying to open the doors. No one would be able to open the doors without all the Tribes agreeing to it. And that was just not going to happen.
"If the M'arrillians live there then how did the M'arrillian get to the River Lands with the doors closed?" she asked. At this point, Ladro`n wasn't talking and instead was just listing to Nivenna asking the questions and Sam answering them.
"Because the doors had been opened letting all the M'arrillians out."
"When did this happen?" Nivenna was really hoping he was just a crazy creature that looked odd. If that wasn't it than she didn't want to think what he was saying was the truth.
"About three years in the future. I don't know the exact date." he said.
Nivenna knew that had to be impossible. Even if she didn't know what years meant, she knew future was a time that didn't happen yet and it shouldn't be possible for Sam to have come from the future. She had so many questions for him, but first she wanted to ask the simple ones first.
"What are years? Tell me is it a number of days or something else?" she asked.
"A year is 365 days or if it's a leap year then it's 366 days."
"Okay then, so a year is two solans. Which would mean the M'arrillians get out in six solans, give a day or two. How do you know what's going to happen in the future?"
"Because I am from the future." He said. Nivenna didn't know who the crazy one was at this point. Was it Sam who was saying the crazy things or her for continuing to ask the crazy person.
"Alright, I have had enough of this guy's insane talk. I say you just hand him over to Chaor and let him deal with his idiosy, colact the reward and we'll be on our merry way back to the normal world!" Ladro`n agrley yelled.
"No, I want to ask more questions, before the potion wears off and besides we had him down here too long. If he tells Chaor we had him for this long then we'll get punished."
"We could fix that by killing him. A dead creature can't tell anybody anything anymore. " He quoted a popular Underworld saying.
Nivenna just ignored him and went back to questioning, Sam. " Let's talk more about this place called Chaotic. You said earlier that you and your fellow players turn into the creatures you battle as and that you not only have all the creatures strengths and weakness, but also their memories."
"That's right." Sam said. Nivenna didn't like what he said, because what she said wasn't really a question and the book she had read said that if the creature that is under the influence, starts to answer something that wasn't a question then it means the potion is wearing off.
"Have you turned into me before?" If he said yes then she would ask questions that only she would know, since he should have had her memoirs. Part of her was wanting him to say no; the idea of having some one turn into her was just creepy.
"Yes, I have a few times." he said.
"Okay then, what was the nickname I had when I was a toddler?" she asked. Few creatures know her old nickname and only one creature called her by that nickname.
"I don't know."
"But you told us you gain the memoires of the creatures you turn into. Why is it that you don't have my memoires?" she asked.
"It doesn't work that way. We have to focus on a certain memoir during the battle and we don't look for something that wouldn't help us win."
"Okay then." Nivenna said. She wanted to find some prof of what he was saying, but the potion will not least long and there were other things that needed to be answered. "How did the M'arrillans get out of the Doors? And give me the whole story." she asked.
"The Underworlders fond a creature by the name of Phelphor frozen inside Ice Pillar. They freed him and took him to Chaor. He lied to Chaor saying that the M'arrillians had the Cothica behind the doors of the deep mines. Chaor wasn't fooled by Phelphor's lies, but then Phelphor attacked Chaor and was able to escape. He convinced Lord Van Bloot that the Cothica was indeed behind the doors. Van Bloot gathered his army and went to open the doors, but Chaor and his army went to stop him. Chaor left the battle field, because he knew Van Bloot was just a diversion and that Phelphor was on his way to the Deep Mines. At the Doors of the Deep Mines, Phelphor had used his mind powers to brain wash the guards and open the doors. Chaor was too late to stop him." Sam finished telling the story.
The room fell silent as Nivenna and Ladro`n took in what he said. Nivenna couldn't believe the story Sam told, but at least she knew that she could always prove it right or wrong by going to Ice Pillar and see for herself. But she just didn't have time to do that right now.
Looking over at Ladro`n, she saw that his face looed like he was in shock as if he had seen an ghost. For a moment she wondered why, but shuck it the thought away and went back to questioning Sam.
"We don't have much time left, so I'll ask the question I've been wanting to ask." she said, preparing herself for the answer. " Do you know if the family I came from are Underworlders or Overworlders?" she asked.
"No, I don't know." he said. Nivenna was both disappointed and relieved. She was disappointed, because she wanted to know who her family was, but part of her was relieved, because of the chance that she might actually have come from the Overworld.
"This twin of mine, Aivenna. W-what's her life-like up there in the Overworld?" she asked. It was very hard for her to ask such a question and she had stuttered a little trying to get the question out. She even looked away from Sam as she said it. Such behavior is considered weakness in the Underworld and to have asked that question to possibly a spy and an enemy is just not what Underworlders do. Ladro`n was staring at her, but didn't say anything.
"I hear she has it pretty good. She was fond and raised by Intress when she was a baby. As far as I know, she lives a happy life. I'm sorry I don't know more." Sam said.
Nivenna, quickly snapped her eyes back on him and anger instantly began to build. She knew the second he said 'I'm sorry' that the potion had worn off right before she had asked the question. It wasn't that she was mad at him, but more like she was mad at herself for asking in the first place. Takinom had worried her countless times never to ask such an intimate question to a prisoner unless it was about them.
Sam didn't have a judgmental look like what any other creature would have. Instead he looked sad like he felt pity for her. That didn't really help the anger Nivenna was feeling right now though. In fact it might have just made her feel worse.
"How dare this stranger, think that he knows what it feels like." she thought. Unable to control her anger anymore, she kicked Sam in the stomach making him fall over in his chair. He was groaning in pain and there was a good chance that Nivenna had broken at least one of his ribs. She was going to attack more, but them Ladro'n stopped her by grabbing her wrist. Her furies green eyes meet his calm golden ones.
"It's okay Nivenna. Calm down. We still need to think about what we are going to do with him." he said, trying to calm her down. " Like you said it's too late to hand him over to Chaor, but then what are we going to do?" he asked.
Looking back at Sam who was still in a lot of pain and looked like he wasn't paying attention to what they were saying. She said: "If what he says is true then we need to keep him alive. And I only know one way to prove what he is saying." she turned her eyes back to his. "We go to Ice Pillar and find this Phelphor.
"Right, but how? I know you can't because it would be impossible for you to sneak away for so long without anyone noticing your absence." he asked. Nivenna had no idea, but she wanted to go see with her own eyes.
Knowing that she didn't have an answer, Ladro`n continued to say: " Look just let me and some of the others go to Ice Pillar. Unlike you no one will care if a few street rats are gone for a few days."
Nivenna thought about it and knew there was not much of an argument about it. As much as she loved them (though she would never say it) she had to admit that if they were to disappear for a few days no one would notice. Even if they did it wasn't like they would do anything about it. The Underworld police sure wouldn't go looking for a bunch of trash as they like to call her friends.
"Fine, but be careful. Chaor has many of his warriors posted there and on the paths leading there. If you get caught, I won't be able to help you." she agreed. A sly smile grow on Ladro`n's face as if Nivenna had said something funny.
"Us get caught? I thought you know better than that little sister." he said, then laughed. Nivenna couldn't help, but to show a small smile. He was right after all. After all those times that the gang had stolen so many things from so many creatures, only she had got caught and even then she was able to get out on top.
Author's Notes
Hello lovely readers. I hope you liked this chapter. Sorry for taking so long.
I'm really not happy with this chapter, but it is not my worst work.
Anyways, I'm not sure what I'll be doing for the next chapter. Since it's been so long since I worked on it, I have forgotten what I had planned, but I'm sure I'll think of something.
I might show another flash back to show more of how Nivenna slowly turned from street rat to a respected Underworlder.
Please write a review and tell me what you think. Thanks for reading!
