Once Paul and I left Emily and Sam's we walked back to my house through the beach trail and lingered, he grabbed my hand and we walked in the shallow end of the water just enjoying life and enjoying the feeling of being together. Serenity. Tranquility. Perfect were all words that could describe this moment. I was smiling so much I was pretty sure my face would crack.

"The last time I've seen you this happy was when we were 6 and we saved muffins from that coyote." We both laughed remembering us throwing the steaks from my dad's grill and then us getting in trouble. It was all for the love of my dog, Muffins. I missed her, she had passed away two years ago and I went into a month long depression that Paul had undoubtedly got me out of.

"I still can't believe I was grounded, I was saving my dog!" I had been grounded for 4 days and Paul wasn't allowed to come over. It was horrible.

"I'm pretty sure that was the day I realized I loved you." Paul said stopping us and looking straight into my eyes. It didn't matter that he had been apart of my life for so long, everytime I was summoned to the intensity of his golden- hazel eyes my breath got caught in my throat.

We kissed and walked on the beach like every corny Nicholas Sparks movie you've ever seen and I loved it. Nothing could ever describe how I felt in that moment. As usual when things were going wonderful in my life, something bad had to happen. When I arrived home I talked to my mom about meeting the pack, of course disclosing the supernatural part.

"So did you see Emily's scar?" My mom asked, her hands holding up her face as she leaned over the island in our kitchen.

"Yes, she's still really pretty, though. What happened to her?" I was curious as to what they told outsiders about Sam's accident.

"She was in the forest one night going home and was mauled by a bear." My mom said moving from her spot to put her dishes in the sink. I got up to start getting ready to bed. For once I was excited to go to school the next day. It would be the first time I had friends. "Diem, did you start your period?" My mom said as she turned back around from the sink.

"No... I finished my period yesterday." Was my mom finally going crazy?

"Sweetie, the back of your jeans have a huge blotch of blood." She said smirking. I swear the woman acted more like my older sister than my mom. I rolled my eyes.

"Well at least Paul didn't see it." Although it wouldn't have been the first time.

"Is it weird?" She asked once I sat down at the island knowing she'd want more details.

" Is what weird?"

"Being Paul's girlfriend. It must feel strange, especially after being best friends with him for so long." I thought about it for a moment before I replied.

"Honestly, it doesn't. I feel like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be." I smiled and my mom smiled back at me.

"So when do you think you're going to have sex?" She said rubbing her hands together. I face palmed. I couldn't have expected anything less from my mom.

"I don't know!" I said feeling my cheeks heating up and covering my face.

"Diem, this a perfectly natural conversation. Tomorrow we should look at getting you lingerie." I looked at her mortified. Clearly my dad wasn't home for her to be talking so freely about this. I knew my mom was utterly insane but this just blew everything out of the way.

"I'm going to bed, night mom!" I said walking down the hall into my room. Obviously I had thought about what my first sexual experience would be but the fact that my mom was so willing to have me pursue it made me completely freaked out.

A clear sign I wasn't ready.

When I got to my room I took my pants off and put them in the garbage. There was no way the blood would come out and I wasn't an ultimate fan of these jeans anyway. I took the rest of my clothes, got a pad, put on new underwear and got into my P.J's, then crawled into bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow my phone beeped. I picked it up and was surprised to have 2 text messages.

Kim: 'You're still coming to the art show right?'

Paul: 'Hope you had a good time tonight Lily. I love you. See u school.'

I smiled instantly. It took so long to get to this place in my life and it made me feel so fulfilled. This was how high school was supposed to be- granted I was luckier than most because I knew these people would be apart of my life forever... too bad forever didn't exist.

I woke up feeling extremely tired. The entire night I had felt like peeing and everytime I ran to the bathroom I never actually peed. It was extremely weird and annoying. My eyes were pretty much squinted the entire time I put on clothes then walked to the kitchen in need of a serious coffee rejuvenate. After a few sips I started feeling a tiny flood of energy and made myself cereal and sat at the kitchen table.

"Since when do you have Coffee?" My dad said coming into the kitchen grabbing the usual mug and filling it with caffeine.

"Since I feel extremely exhausted from the lack of sleep I got." I said grumpily. I loved my sleep and this weird pee- thing was very odd. Not to mention my back has been hurting since the middle of the night and hadn't gone away.

"Did someone have a wild night?" My mom said coming into the kitchen kissing my dad and pouring a bunch of goldfish crackers into a little bowl. I glared at her.

"Oh, of course. Paul came over." I said deadpan. My dad who had taken a sip at the wrong time spit it out and started choking.

"What?!" He said the same time my mom said "EEEEEPPPPP." I pushed away from the kitchen table, grabbed my bowl and walked to the kitchen sink.

"I was kidding. Are you ready?" I said turning to look at my dad. I was in a bad mood and hated it so I wanted to get to school early so I could see my friends and make it go away.

"I'll be ready in a few mi-" my dad started to say but was interrupted by a honk. My heart immediately started beating wildly. I ran to the window to view who's car was honking and wasn't surprised to see my Paul standing outside the passenger door with his arms crossed, smiling and looking gorgeous.

"Looks like our daughter has a hot escort instead." My mom said from behind me looking out the window. I laughed. Hot was didn't even explain Paul's appeal. I grabbed my jacket and my school bag from the little arm chair kissed my dad on the cheek who didn't look happy and hugged my mom that was winking at Paul who laughed.

"Good morning, my Lily." Paul said as soon as I opened the door and walked down the stairs. I made my way into his outstretched arms and closed my eyes. I knew I'd feel better once I saw him.

"Good morning, Otis. To what brings you this way?" I said smiling as he opened the door to the car and I hoped inside. As he ran around to the other side he turned to look at me, and before I knew it his lips were on mine. My eyes went into the back of my head. His soft, yet forceful lips felt amazing against mine, his tongue went into my mouth and I couldn't help but moan.

"I couldn't wait any longer to see you." He kissed me again. " And to feel your lips against mine." He smiled sexily and my heart started racing again.

"Such a charmer." I rolled my eyes and put my seat belt on. He backed out of my driveway. As I took one last look I saw my mom quickly close the blinds. She was actually spying. Why was she such a weirdo?

"Why was your mom winking at me?" Paul asked as he drove us to school with one hand while his other hand held mine. He did it so casually and it made my heart smile. We were always meant to be like this it made so much sense.

"Because I told her that you snuck in last night." He slammed the breaks, instead of cursing the people who honked incessantly he looked over at me in shock. I giggled.

"Relax, she knows I was joking. She brought it up because I said I had a bad night."

"Why did you have a bad night?" He said, concern lacing his words.

"Kept having to pee, don't worry. Nothing is happening." I assured him. I couldn't dare tell him about the add pleasure of this horrid back pain that felt worse as I pressed my backbone against his leather seat. I was going to be fine.

When we got to school I got out of the car with Paul's help and held back a huge Yelp of pain that wanted to escape. Why did my back hurt so much? Had I slept on it wrong? Paul grabbed my hand and we walked to the same meeting spot where Jared had met Kim. Like before Jared was already there waiting on Kim.

"Hey Bro," Jared said once he noticed us. Him and Paul bumped fists and then Jared picked me up from Paul's side and spun me around. "How are you doing Diem?" He said once he put me down. Paul looked on with amusement.

"I'm alright, just tired." I said smiling. Jared's smile was so infectious, if there was any trace of grumpiness, it was all gone.

"Hey guys, what's up?" Kim said coming over, she gave Jared a kiss, hugged Paul then hooked her arm threw mine. "I can't wait for the art show, I heard this morning that Ms. Bonae want's me to present two more pieces." Kim squealed.

"That's awesome Kim!" I said still linked with her, we walking ahead of the guys.

"Who's Ms. Bonae?" Jared said sounding incredibly confused.

"She's the owner of the La Clare art gallery." Paul said. We all looked at him shocked. He shrugged. "My grandma loves her art."

"I know, except I'm not too sure what pieces I should show. I have a couple in mind but I don't wanna mess up the flow, you know?"

"I can help you choose, I'll be completely unbiased if you want." I said smiling at her.

"Hey, I wanna help." Jared said. Kim looked at him and smiled.

"Sorry sweetie, I have to take Diem's offer. I know for a fact you'll be biased." I laughed at Jared's face and Kim looked at me and rolled her eyes. Walking over to him she gave him a kiss then turned to me and mouthed 'baby'. I snorted.

The bell rang shortly after and we all made our way to our classes. When I got to science I slipped in my usual seat at the back. My back was still hurting me but I was hoping it'd simmer down and wouldn't be too painful when I sat down. No luck. As soon as my butt hit the chair and my back hit the frame I squealed. A few people turned to look at me. Great.

"Are you okay Diem?" Embry said from my left. I sighed in relief. I was so glad to have someone in my class. On the walk, every girl seemed to be planning my death.

"Yeah, my back's just a little sore." I smiled at him. He smiled back and then we started talking until the teacher came. Once Mr. Caprs walked in I had the instinctual urge to pee. I quickly raised my hand.

"Yes, Miss Lilac?" He said in his usual Gruff voice.

"Could I use the restroom?" I said politely.

"Yes, but next time do try to go before class starts." Once he said that a few class peers started laughing. Why did people find others' misery entertaining? Mr. Caprs then turned his back and started writing on the board.

I ran to the nearest girls restroom and made way for the first toilet. As I sat down to pee I realized that the same annoyance from last night had struck. Why was this happening? After a few minutes of being sure nothing was going to happen I got up and walked out of the bathroom, making my way slowly to class. Why all of a sudden was I bleeding when I had finished my period, having back problems and having such a strong instinct to pee? It was strange but I wasn't going to give it anymore thought. Things in my life were going well.

Extremely well and I wasn't going to ruin it. I was going to remain oblivious until absolutely necessary.
