A/N: Hello everyone, it has been a long time but I'm back :) I know, I really know, you are mad at me and believe me you have every right to kill me if you want to (though if you do you will never get another update this way, so I guess, hopefully, I'm safe for now), BUT my reason for disappearing (again) was really important, get-into-collage important and my country's system is something similar to japan's for whoever knows, which means it's really difficult to get into college. But now college-exams, school-exams and school in general are over, so I will be updating and finishing this story.

As an apology-present I've already written and send to my beta the next chapter, which will be quite long, really long, so rest assure ;)
Anyway you don't really care for any of that so sorry for talking too much and I hope you will enjoy the new chapter :)

This chapter is dedicated to all its readers ^.^

Disclaimer: I own nothing, but the plot and Katsumi.

Double Jealousy

Chapter 11: The Library Encounter

The usually empty courtyard of Juuban middle school was covered by a sea of students dressed in their blue uniforms and eagerly making their leave from the place of their daily torture.

"Haaah," Usagi sighed as she exited the school gates.

"What's wrong Usagi-chan?" Ami asked politely.

"I bet you failed the test today," The blonde glared at Makoto for being right.

"I couldn't even understand most of the questions, why did they have to be written in English?!" She whined and half growled the last part.

"I don't know, maybe 'cause it was an English test?" The brunette teased, which earned her another glare.

"And how did you write?" She narrowed her blue eyes and crossed her arms, waiting for her reply.

"I didn't write, I went to the infirmary that period," Makoto smirked and stuck out her tongue playfully. Usagi frowned and mumbled something under her breath that sounded like 'I should have thought of that' as they continued walking.

"At least Ami got full marks," The green-eyed girl tried to lighten up the mood; there wasn't any need for Ami to say how she did on the test, her grades were never less than perfect.

"Wait, Ami-chan isn't your cram school that way?" Usagi pointed down the opposite way.

"Oh no not today. The building is under the yearly disinfection for two days, so I'm free for today and tomorrow," She explained and smiled, "But today I need to go to the library and borrow some books."

"You want us to tag along?" The blonde asked cheerfully as she skipped besides her.

"Nnnn, it's fine. I'm going to spend some time there and I wouldn't want you to get bored."

Usagi shook her head, her hair waving around her, "I don't mind. It's going to be fun, ne Mako-chan?"

"I'm sorry Ami I have to go pay some bills today," Makoto said apologetically.

"And Rei-chan said last night that she has work at the shrine today too," The blue-haired girl added.

"Then we will go together," Usagi jumped right next to her and grabbed her hand to walk arm in arm.

"Thank you Usagi-chan."

"No need for thanks Ami-chan; let's go," Usagi untangled their arms, took her hand, and started running, dragging Ami behind her. As the poor victim of her excitement tried to make her slow down, the blonde suddenly stopped and turned around, almost making her friend lose her balance and fall down.

"Bye bye Mako-chan, see you tomorrow," She shouted and waved her hand above her head. Ami on her side waved at the brunette too, though just a bit more discreetly.

Makoto waved back smiling until Usagi stopped and went back to running.

After some minutes Ami had succeeded in making Usagi slow down and walk properly. They arrived at the public library about half an hour later, due to Usagi's stops to see some showcases at shops, trying to decide what color looked best on Rei.

"Usagi-chan, I'm going to look for some books over in that area, you can go and read some manga if you want to," The blue-haired girl said pointing at each area for the blonde to understand, Usagi didn't come to the library as often as she did, so she wasn't familiar with the place like her.

"The library has manga too?" The blonde asked with sparkling eyes.

"Only a few compared to the number you have."

"That's great! I'm going to check them out right now."

"Aaah, Usagi-chan you can't run in the library," Ami half-whispered, only loud enough for Usagi to hear, who stopped in her tracks and turned her head.

"Sorry," She smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of her head.

Time passed as Ami created a huge pile of books next to her and Usagi tried to suppress her giggles while reading one manga after the other. However the two girls had forgotten something important: Usagi's appetite.

When the blonde's stomach growled, Usagi blushed from the embarrassing sound and stood up. After placing the manga in her hand back at its proper place, she roamed through the library in search for her friend to ask her where could she find something to eat or if she at least had any food. Soon she realized that she couldn't find the blue-haired girl and even though she could recall Ami showing her where she would be, Usagi couldn't remember the place; all the rows of shelves looked exactly the same to her.

Where is she? She questioned herself, as she continued her quest of finding the blue-haired, genius bookworm. Walking in between another row of shelves she stared at the wooden furniture holding books of all sizes. Usagi would have been irritated , if her mind wasn't occupied by wonder if anyone ever read the thickest ones, which were almost the same size of her head. No wonder Ami loved this place so much, it was perfect for her.

The row she was in connected to an area with six rectangle tables, each with four chairs that did not look comfortable, and a few low shelves that reached a little bit higher than her waist. There was no-one there, no-one but him; him with her.

At first she was stunned, then afraid of being noticed, since if they raised their heads the two of them would see her, so she immediately ducked down behind a low shelve. Lastly she was angry, very angry, even though Usagi couldn't comprehend why her body was suddenly burning with rage or why she had the need to go curl up in a little ball in a corner and cry. She would had gone right then and there and punched the jerk's face, if it wasn't for the small fragment of self-control she held. Her hunger and search for Ami were completely forgotten by now.

Slowly she poked her head out until her eyes were visible and watched as the woman next to him typed something on the black laptop with an unfading smile. Her body was too close to his for Usagi's liking, as she pressed her upper arm against his, her head was right under his chin. They exchanged some words, he said something that made her laugh and then Mamoru turned his head to look at her as she looked up at him; their faces were centimeters apart.

It felt as though someone stabbed her in the stomach. The sight in front of her made her body freeze over, yet she was boiling with anger. Why wasn't he pulling away!? Usagi felt the violent need to go there and pull the brunette's head away from his by her perfect hair and then, instead of punching the jerk, slap him. But thankfully Mamoru turned back to stare at the screen before the blonde had time to act. Once the green-eyed woman looked away from him and nothing happened Usagi felt slightly relieved; she let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding and her tensed body relaxed. However frustration grew within her once more, as then Mamoru said something that made the brunette laugh again. Since when did the jerk know any jokes or said anything remotely funny?

"But why do I care?" She asked herself aloud and frowned.

"Care about what?" Said a voice behind her. Usagi cover her mouth with her hands to muffle her squeak of surprise as she turned to see who it was.

"Oh, Ami-chan it's just you," She sighed in relief and leaned her back against the book-shelve, "You scared me," She whispered placing a hand on her throbbing heart; she was so caught up with the two people behind her that she hadn't even heard Ami approaching her.

"I'm sorry, Usagi-chan," Ami smiled apologetically. "But why are we hiding and whispering?"

"That doesn't matter right now, where were you? I looked everywhere for you."

"I was at the area I showed you gathering the books I wanted," She moved a bit to the left to reveal a pile of books, sitting on a cart, that reached half a meter. Usagi sweat-dropped seeing this.

"What do you need this many books for?"

"For some light reading naturally. But what is it you don't you care about?" Ami directed the conversation back to where it started.

"Nothing!" The blonde instantly replied in a worried tone, which made the genius girl curious.

"Then let me see what this 'nothing' is," She said and poked her head out. "Who is the lady with Mamoru-san?"

"I don't know and nor do I care to learn," Usagi clenched her teeth. She stubbornly stared at the pile of books Ami had brought, refusing to look the least interested in them.

"Oh, Mamoru-san is coming this way," The blue-haired girl said as soon as the sound of a chair rubbing against the floor was heard and footsteps followed.

"Hide!" Usagi whispered panicked and pulled Ami's hand to bring her body close and completely covered by the book-shelve. They both held their breaths as Mamoru came to a stop on the other side of the object they were hiding behind and bent down.

"R...R...R..." He mumbled to himself as he searched for the book he wanted. Usagi had a puzzled look on her face, why was he repeating the letter?

The blonde turned to look at Ami, who was moving her pointing finger to the spines of the books on the shelve. The blue-haired girl looked up at Usagi, who mouthed 'What are you doing?' but she didn't get an answer; instead her friend waved her hand as a sign to move away. She obeyed and as slowly and silently as she could move a sit to her right.

Ami immediately continued her search and a second later lightly tapped her finger on a book. Usagi looked at her confused as she took the book out and Ami pointed at a word on its cover. 'Encyclopedia' it wrote and then she turned it to point at the letter 'R' on the end of its spine. Usagi nodded, finally understanding and watched as her friend slowly raised the large book above her head and placed it on top of the book-shelve. She pushed it slowly with her fingers and quickly retreated her hands close to her body. She made it just in time as Mamoru stood up and sighed.

"It's must be at the other side," He said, but no footsteps were heard; he had probably, and hopefully, seen the book.

"This wasn't there when I came here, was it?" He questioned himself.

"Mamoru-kun is everything all right?" A young woman's voice was heard; it was a nice voice, gentle and feminine.

"Yes, everything's fine, Maino-san," The college student answered taking the book and walking back.

"I told you it's Katsumi," The woman named Maino said, but they couldn't listen to Mamoru's answer as their voices went back to low, most likely because they were still in the library.

"So her name is Maino Katsumi, huh?" Usagi whispered aloud, having forgotten that she supposedly didn't care.

"Apparently," Ami replayed as they both poked their heads out again to watch the two.

"But how did you know what he wanted?"

"Usagi-chan I know this library better than my own bedroom, this book-shelve has only two types of encyclopedias, if Mamoru-san couldn't find the 'R' he needed on the other side, it only meant that he wanted the one on this side," She said and then paused, "We were just lucky that Maino-san didn't noticed me placing the book."

"Actually I was lucky you got here before he needed the encyclopedia," The blonde mumbled so softly that not even Ami heard it and sighed in relief for the third time that day.

"I wonder who she is though, apart from her name," Ami continued. There was a pause of silence for a while neither of the girls spoke, they just watched as the two older people flipped the pages of the encyclopedia. "Maybe she is his girlfriend," Ami said as if it was just telling good morning to someone.

Usagi felt a stab in her stomach considering the possibility. What was wrong with it today? It was probably trying to remind her that it was empty and she was hungry; she should eat something soon. Yet the question remained; it couldn't be possible that Katsumi was the jerk's girlfriend, could it? No, of course not, since the jerk didn't date and someone nearly as beautiful as this woman wouldn't like a jerk like him. Who would like him in the first place?! Mamoru was an arrogant, rude, insensitive, heartless, cold, smartass, selfish, mean jerk, the only thing of good quality he had was his looks. Why would any girl like him!?

Ami watched amused from the corner of her eyes. Usagi's face changing one expression after the other; first it was shocked, then thoughtful, afterwards frowning, then back to thoughtful, and lastly full of anger. She tried to keep her face straight but she couldn't help but allow a small smile to be formed by her lips. "Or maybe not," She whispered after her second long pause; even though it was amusing to watch Usagi being jealous, she didn't want her friend's head to explode from anger. "I mean," She continued, "If Mamoru-san had a girlfriend, he would have definitely told Motoki-san and Motoki-san isn't able to keep such a thing a secret for long so he would have at least told one of us."

Usagi thought about this for a moment; Ami was right, her second scenario was more possible than the first and she nodded. But still, watching them being so close to each other and him not minding at all made her feel worried. The problem was, she didn't know what she was worried about.

Sensing this, Ami said, "They are probably just friends," And that was all that was needed to trigger the blonde's insults to fly loose.

"Friends? Who in their right mind would want to be friends with a guy like him? Let alone like him with that awful, girl-anti-magnet green jacket of his?" Miraculously, somehow Usagi had remembered to keep her voice low and not to be heard by the one she was currently badmouthing. "Besides, he doesn't hang out with anyone but Motoki-onii-san, how could he have made a new friend?"

"What if he just started hanging out with this person?"

"He wouldn't"

"Why wouldn't he?"

"'Cause he just wouldn't," Usagi whispered sharply, not being able to come up with a reason. Remembering that this wasn't the first time seeing him with her only made Ami's question more possible. She frowned; Mamoru wouldn't hang out with other people, he didn't like people in the first place. Why was she making such a big deal out of the situation? It wasn't like she cared about what he did or not in his life. The only thing she wanted from him was to stop showing up wherever she went! Stubbornly she turned her head to look at her friend and said "Come on let's go, I'm hungry."

"But you ate so much at school," The blue-haired said seeing past her excuse. Usagi might have been hungry but that wasn't the only reason she wanted to leave.

"But that was three hours ago! Now I'm hungry again," She said crawling away from their hiding spot.

"Fine, I just have to check out these books before leaving," She said as she followed, pushing the cart in front of her.

"Are you even allowed to borrow that many?" The blonde turned her head back to see Ami taking out a card.

"Special membership card, I can borrow as many books as I like," She grinned. Usagi rolled her eyes; this was definitely Ami's paradise.

Mamoru stared at the book-shelve he had just took the encyclopedia they were currently using for their project. His eyes must have been playing tricks on him. He hadn't just seen two yellow odangos behind it, had he? Not possible, he said to himself, Odango Atama would never place her foot in a place full of books, made specifically for reading and studying.

He turned to look back at Katsumi who was saying something irrelevant from their project again, he wasn't sure what, but if she continued this way they would never finish it. In addition she kept pressing her body more close than possible to his and it was starting to get annoying as he didn't really have any personal space or space to move at. He just hoped nothing would happen like before when their faces were so closed that their breaths mixed. It was really awkward to him, wanting to pull back. But he didn't, only because he was thinking the exact same line. 'Now that's really awkward'. And that was why he had tried to cover it up with a joke afterwards and luckily for him, even though it was awful, Katsumi did laugh.

The feeling of her wanting something from him was still there but what he felt most at the moment, apart from annoyance and boredom, was that he had done something bad. Something he should be worried about or ashamed of. Why was he feeling like that? He shook his head in a failed attempt to shake away those thoughts and feelings. Something told him complications were going to come soon.

A/N: I really want to point out what my beta said about this chapter, I really find it hilarious (in the good way) so the next line belongs to ShiyaHawk: "Usagi in a library. That's a one time thing for sure. Not unless you lure her in there with food."
So I'm not gonna talk anymore, hope you enjoyed the chapter :)

Preview of Chapter 12:

Mamoru no longer wondered why most people in his college thought Katsumi was, indeed, beautiful and not just pretty.
...

What was going on here? Chiba Mamoru was blushing?!
...

They had been taking in the most beautiful thing he had ever seen and at the same time, the most disturbing.
...

Usagi looked at him with widen eyes. Was he offering to sit with her through detention and share the work load?
...

Mamoru's calm voice made him look even more terrifying from the boy's eyes.
...

"You know, when girls at Usagi-chan's age get a boyfriend they tend to prefer hanging out with him, rather than their friends."
...

But neither of them seemed bothered by the intrusion on their personal space; it was as if they were so comfortable with each other, they didn't mind the closure.
...

I'm not sure if I confused you enough with those cuts but I hope I made you curious :)
