Buffy
Xander stood against the desk, dumbfounded, he just attempted to tell Buffy about Spike, they had agreed not to, for Buffy's sake, but to see her, the way she was suffering, was awful.
I've got to tell her Xander thought, taking a deep breath as he pushed himself to the door, I can't lie to her, not about this. Quickly Xander speed of down the halls in search of Buffy hoping not to run into anyone he knew wouldn't want her to know.
Spike
"What do you mean thousands?" Angel yelled, as he brushed his fingers through his hair, his stress levels bursting through the roof.
The keeper of the well, Drogyn, stood on the bridge, staring at Angel, who looked as if he were about to cry.
"I have told you I cannot lie, when I say thousands will die… I mean it! Dragging Illyria back to her sarcophagus would be difficult and she would put up a fight… a big one! Illyria would destroy anything in her path."
Angel looked down the deeper well, staring at the numerous coffins stacked upon each other. This was it, another one he couldn't save, another one of his own, gone. I can't he thought. "I can't imagine Fred would be very happy in life knowing she killed thousands to save herself from death."
"Angel!" spike said it was the first word he had said since entering the deeper well, "its fred."
"I know!" Angel dropped his shoulders.
"How do we tell Wesley?" Spike asked. Angel sighed barely able to think of what Wesley was going through.
"How do we tell…" Spike paused before continuing "…everyone?"
"We tell them the truth… I guess!" Angel said as he looked at Spike, his fists clenched tightly.
"She was murdered!"
Spike thought of Knox, nodding both he and Angel wheeled around and left the deeper well, rushing home to say their goodbyes to Fred, and to unleash revenge on the man who had sentenced Fred to her death.
Angel sped off ahead as he walked out of the tree, the entrance to the deeper well, Spike rushed to keep up, his thoughts echoing loudly in his head.
"Hey!" said a voice behind him. It was Drogyn.
Spike turned back and returned to his side by the entrance to the deeper well.
"You must know of the significant battle on the horizon! It approaches! It will be here sooner than you think!" Spike nodded and turned to catch up with Angel but Drogyn continued, holding him back "You must know your place before it is too late, one champion can make all the difference, but two…" Drogyn cut himself off and leisurely turned around and returned to the deeper well.
Spike entered Fred's room of the infirmary first, Angel at his feet. If they had hearts this would be the moment they raced in fear or broke at the sight of Fred.
As Spike turned to door knob and entered the dark room, Angel flicked on the light and they noticed the bed was empty, it was made neatly and with by the looks of it fresh sheets.
Buffy
Buffy walked into the kitchen, the following afternoon, to see Dawn and Jason huddled over the counter, spoons in their hands as they shared an apple pie for dessert. The two giggled, not noticing Buffy had entered the room.
"Hey there you two..."Dawn spun around her eyes focused on Buffy.
"Oh Hey Buffy, we were just hanging out."
Buffy smiled, "It's ok you can do what you want to do." Buffy opened the fridge and pulled out a slice of leftover pizza, the girls had left. Dawn and Jason had continued their conversation.
"...So where have you been all night?" Buffy said interrupting Jason's sentence. The two looked at her, "we went out to see a movie after lunch and then went out for dinner." Dawn said sheepishly.
"Neat" Buffy smiled awkwardly and then simply waved before exiting the kitchen.
She was happy for Dawn, of course, but was confused because she couldn't stand to be in the same room with her when Jason was around. It hurt, to see something normal, Buffy wanted Dawn to live, to see the world and experience what it has to offer, not to be stuck by her sister's side, fighting to save the world on a daily basis. It was pretty obvious Buffy envied Dawn's chances of a normal life of experiencing love like Buffy had never been able to.
Dawn
Jason and Dawn walked along the street, their stomachs stuffed with food from the Italian restaurant they had just eaten at. Jason took Dawn's hand and tangled his fingers in hers. The street was lit with lights and neon signs from different diners and restaurants, and the two walked hand in hand through the street, veering around different groups of people who stood on the sidewalk.
They walked silently for a few minutes enjoying the serenity, but thoughts emerged in Jason's mind, what if she rejects me? But I have to tell her.
He took a deep breath, his heart racing.
"Dawn..." He said, immediately regretting it, she looked up at him, a calm smile on her face as she waited for him to continue. Jason stopped walking and took her other hand. Dawn was curious and concerned at the same time.
"What?" she asked impatiently.
"I... I'm not what you think I am. I..." he paused to take a breath.
"Jason, what is it?" Dawn said suddenly feeling more scared then anything.
Jason let go of Dawn's hand and she took a small step backwards. He held his hand out, his palm facing upwards, and then muttered something, so quiet Dawn couldn't make it out. She looked from Jason's face to his palm and gasped as she saw a small flower bud materialise, hovering above his palm. Dawn watched as the small flower grew and expanded into a beautiful pink flower and then looked back to Jason's face, noticing he was now staring at her.
"I'm a warlock." Dawn took a moment to process, in this time Jason rambled on about how he understood if she never wanted to see him again and how he was sorry he didn't tell her earlier.
"Jason!" Dawn said interrupting him, "it's…." more than anything Dawn wanted something normal in her life, but she understood, being the sister of the slayer meant that was impossible, the good and bad sides to the world always came back to her. "it's ok…" she said smiling, Jason smiled, relieved, then he softly held the flower in his hand and push it around Dawn's left ear, the flower holding her hair back.
Jason then put his hand to her face and kissed her softly. As he pulled away his smile faded, "why? Why is it ok?"
"Oh ah, being a warlock I thought you would have known Buffy, my sister, she's kinda the slayer." She watched as his jaw dropped. "No biggie, and it's not like I don't know about magic and stuff Willow's this amazing witch! Oh you haven't met her, but she is coming here tomorrow, maybe you can." Dawns voice drowned out as thoughts rushed into Jason's mind. The two weren't sure how to continue from here, so Dawn took his hand and continued walking.
ANYONE see that coming? probably, Dawns always getting into trouble ;)
So please read and review, I'll post the next chapter when its ready and i have two extra comments :)
