Young Dracula: Extra Outtakes
So if you haven't noticed by now these outtakes are kind of being auto-going up daily. I am trying to like get things up on a daily basis while I try and get Turmoil finished and then get them up on a daily basis.
I will try to get publishing daily after Turmoil but no guarantees because it's very erratic how much I can get done. The most recent stuff – since the anniversary – are actually things I have written over a weekend, pretty much day and night to get ahead so I can work on Turmoil. After that, I am hoping to get onto Detestabilis Clan. I plan on trying to write regularly again but there are no guarantees. I will probably stop during the summer so I can write the novel-length stories, and check them.
I thought of this outtake basically off the top of my head. Recently I had a conversation with another fanfic writer about YD and the politics in it. I won't go into detail but we both realised that the politics wasn't really addressed, neither was vampire culture, in a way we can understand. It all seems very jumbled and complicated. So I decided, after checking the outtake I wrote for this area, to write this outtake to show the implications that the death of the Grand High Vampire had.
I don't own Young Dracula
Consequences – based between episodes 12 and 13 of season 2
The Count sat comfortably on his throne reading the latest Vampire Times, the Headline being 'Grand High Vampire Slain by Insane Dracula.'
Vlad came into the room carrying an envelope.
"Dad, we need to talk." Vlad sounded almost angry, and somewhat like he was trying to take charge. In the past few months the Count saw this side of his son a lot more. Vlad seemed to be becoming a leader of some sort and that idea both worried and excited the Count.
The Count put down his paper. "What is it Vladdy?"
Vlad dumped the envelope on his father's lap and scowled. The envelope had been opened even though it had been addressed to the Count.
"Vladimir did you open me…?"
"Why the flapping bats didn't you tell me?" Vlad demanded before the Count could yell at him. "Why didn't you tell me that the clan leaders were coming here?"
"Vladimir," the Count said in warning.
"Having the clans come here, are you insane? We are meant to be keeping a low profile, or have you forgotten that? What about the fact that there are Vampire Slayers in the town? Do you realise what they will do if they find two dozen vampires here? They will call the Slayer's guild and we will be overrun by Slayers. Then we will be slaughtered and the vampire world will be without the clan leaders and all hell will break loose. Did you think of that? Did you even think at all?!"
"VLADIMIR!" The Count yelled, and thunder echoed.
"What?" Vlad scowled and flung his arms out like he did when he was frustrated.
"Do not talk to me like that, I am your father."
Vlad rolled his eyes, crossed his arms and glared at his father defiantly. "I am just trying to point out that this is the stupidest plan you have had since you had the Hunt Ball."
The Count sighed. "Vladimir. I had no choice."
Vlad frowned. "I don't get it."
"My own nephew killed the Grand High Vampire, and within my own castle. Don't you think that looks suspicious? Like I set this all up?" The Count pointed out. "By having the clans in the castle, I am trying to prove my dedication to vampirekind and the new Grand High Vampire."
"Oh," Vlad looked down in shame. "I'm sorry Dad, I didn't know."
The Count got up to his feet. "Vladimir, do not apologise. Yes you were angry, but you are only showing concern for our people. That is what people like you and I must do. I am more than aware of the risks, but compared to the chance of the clan being slain. I would rather risk the clans being here.
"Okay," Vlad nodded.
The Count smiled down on his son and put a hand on his shoulder. "Vladdy, look at me." Vlad looked at his father, guilt plain on his face. "Vampire politics in messy and complicated and occasionally people get slain. You may not understand that, but you will one day. What is important that you are beginning to understand, you are starting to show the signs of a leader and that, Vladimir, is what these leaders will need to see."
Vlad looked confused. The Count put an arm around his son, guiding him. "Come, let's take a night stroll, this may be the last time we can do this."
"Vladimir, you need to understand that as the heir to the Dracula throne there is much more on your shoulders than just a title." The Count said as he guided his son on their normal walking route around the castle.
It was night-time and there was the faint glow on the town below allowing for the castle to have a creepy look and was comforting in its own way.
"As heir to the throne you cannot show any weakness to them, they need to respect you as much as they do me." Vlad supressed a laugh, knowing that very few vampires actually respected the Count. "You must show yourself as a potential leader and the person the clan leaders must deal with should have anything to do with the clan."
"So basically when the clan leaders come you want me to stand up straight, stand up to them when they taunt me and make it plain that I won't stand up to their garlic like attitude." Vlad said.
The Count grinned. "Precisely Vladimir."
"Right," Vlad sighed. "No pressure."
"Just be yourself," The Count shrugged like it was no big deal. "Recently you have done remarkably well for an untransformed vampire. You have stood up against slayers multiple times, you stood up against me and your mother, you assisted Ingrid against her reflection, you fought against your cousin, and most importantly you got through the Dreamworld prematurely and survived. The past year you have shown many of the qualities you will need and yet many vampires lack. I may not have been keen on you living a breather life, but it has changed you and for the better at that. You may not be the most obedient child, but if you were we'd all probably be slain by now."
"Thanks Dad," Vlad said. "Can I ask, what did you mean by this may be the last time we could do one of our night walks?"
The Count frowned. "This meeting is to find the new Grand High Vampire, Vladdy. Any one of the clan leaders could be chosen to be Grand High Vampire, and that includes me."
Vlad looked at his father in surprise. "Won't that make it look like you set up the whole thing again?"
The Cunt shook his head. "The system for choosing the next Grand High Vampire doesn't work in a way that can be manipulated. The only way that a specific person could be chosen is if the Chosen One is among us."
Vlad flinched at that, thankfully the Count took this as concern on his son's part.
"Don't worry yourself Vladimir, the Chosen One isn't here yet. But you must be aware if I am chosen to be Grand High Vampire, the responsibilities of the Dracula throne will automatically fall to you. I could be both at the same time, but I feel it would be better for both of us if you took the name. Then took the throne at sixteen."
"But," Vlad protested. "Sixteen is too young. I am not allowed a throne till I am eighteen."
The Count chuckled. "In the unlikely event of me becoming Grand High Vampire. I will make sure you can take the throne, no son and heir of mine will be living a normal vampire life while I am in charge."
Vlad frowned uncertainly, it was bad enough with everything going on but the fact that he may have to take the Dracula throne early terrified him. Then he remembered what he had been told, he was the Chosen One meaning his responsibility went beyond that of the simple Dracula throne.
"How does it work the whole, choosing thing?"
"There is a piece of parchment that determines which vampire can next wear the crown of power." Vlad looked at his father, thoroughly confused. "The parchment is linked to the crown, it knows which vampire can tolerate the power of the crown. That is why Boris was dusted, he was not meant to wear the crown, he was not who the crown wanted. The crown demands someone, and will not accept anyone else."
"What if it wants the Chosen One?" Vlad asked.
The Count shrugged. "Then we are done for. If the Chosen One is out there then he… or dare I say it she has not revealed themselves yet. If the crown wants the Chosen One then the parchment may not say who it is to protect them. People have claimed to be the Chosen One many times and they ended up dead either because they were found out or someone slayed them because of the potential threat. If the Chosen One is out there, it is best they keep themselves hidden as most vampires would want them dead. The crown would know this, so would the parchment."
Vlad sighed. "Vampire politics is all very complicated." He muttered, thinking about how he knew he was the Chosen One and would one day have to admit it.
He had spent the past few months thinking it was all a mistake but after the death of the Grand High Vampire by his own cousin in the castle he lived in it felt like all events were intentionally tied to down that it was all tied down to him.
"Yes, it's all very messy and involves a lot of bribery and slaying. No one really obeys the rules Vladimir. One day it will all make sense."
"Hm, I'll look forward to it," Vlad muttered sarcastically.
Yet again this didn't take the turn I expected but I quite like it.
