… … …

After the bite, Scott had quickly bandaged me up before lifting me into his arms and carrying me up the stairs. Any loss of blood on my part made me weak. I was weak to begin with, it made it even worse. I couldn't wait to be strong.

"It's going to hurt for a while." He mumbled to me as he ascended the stairs. "I'll put you in Cat's old room so you can rest. It'll be healed tomorrow and you'll start noticing the differences."

I let my head fall back as I looked up at him with a smile. "Thank you." I whispered.

"Don't thank me yet." He told me as we entered the living room. "Not until you know what you've gotten yourself into."

"It doesn't matter." I said, my smile still in place. "Because I'm going to live."

A ghost of a smile appeared on his face. "You're stubborn, it's what makes you perfect for Stiles."

"What's wrong?" The boy in question asked, appearing in my line of vision. "Why are you carrying her? Is she rejecting it?"

"It takes time." Scott assured him. "She just needs to rest."

He carried me to a bedroom and laid me down on the bed. "Just, sleep for now and I'll check on you later." He went to leave but I grabbed his hand, wincing at the pain lancing through me.

"Trent. Can you call him, tell him I'm okay?"

Scott nodded but I didn't let go. "Can you change him? Please? He's my brother. We're twins, I- I don't want to leave him behind."

The Alpha pursed his lips and I could see him mulling it over in his mind. "Let's get you situated first and I promise to really consider it."

"Thank you."

He disappeared and moments later the bed dipped in the middle as someone lied down beside me. I turned over, cuddling into Stiles as he wrapped an arm around me.

"You're amazing." I sleepily murmured before falling asleep.

… … …

When I woke up, it was morning and I felt great. I knew I slept through the night and I felt more energized. The bandage on my arm had been changed at some point and there was no blood leaking through. I considered this a good sign. Beside me, Stiles still slept, one arm over his head, his mouth opened as he softly snored. I considered waking him up but decided to let him sleep as I stood up and walked down to the kitchen where I could smell eggs cooking.

"Hey, you're awake, just in time." Cat grinned, looking me over briefly before returning to the stove. "I'm cooking you some food, I'm sure you're starving. Get used to an increased appetite now. The guys eat so much, I'm surprised they haven't bankrupted Mom yet."

"Mom?" I couldn't help but ask.

Cat shot me a shy smile. "Melissa has become like a mother to me. After the Darach and losing my Grams and almost losing her, I just started calling her Mom, so she would always know how special she is to me."

"That's awfully cool." I sincerely told her, my mouth watering at the smells coming from the stove as I sat down.

"It is." She replied, returning once again to the stove. "Scott went home for a bit, he'll be back soon."

"Where's Isaac?" I asked.

She shrugged. "I don't know, I think he went to go see Allison."

"Doesn't that bother you? I mean, what if the same thing that happened between you and Scott happened to them?"

Cat sighed, not looking up from the frying pan. "You seem to forget, I'm psychic. If I never appeared and they went through all this, I don't doubt that something would be going on between them, I mean, those two have worked really close together on stuff the last little while. But even when I get a little worried, he turns and looks at me and everything is just automatically better. I don't doubt his love. I trust him."

"Plus you would totally know if he did something."

She laughed as she began dishing the food out onto a plate for me. "Yeah, that totally helps too."

"Can I see Trent today?" I hopefully asked. I couldn't wait to show him how I had changed.

"Of course. I'll get Isaac to swing by and pick him up after breakfast." Cat picked up the plate and turned towards me, her eyes widening as she looked at me, the plate in her hand falling to the ground as she gasped. I watched it fall before looking back up at her in confusion.

"whats wrong?

"Oh, you're nose. It's bleeding."

I wiped at my nose but there was nothing there and I frowned at her. "No, it's not."

"Not yet."

She continued to stare at me when I felt a trickle from my nose and I quickly wiped it away, nose bleeds weren't unusual for me, especially with my illness. But as I looked down at my hand, I noticed the blood wasn't the usual red, it was black. I looked fearfully up at Cat.

"Your arm." She whispered, looking to where the sleeve from my shirt covered the bandage. I pushed it up, staring in horror at the black stain against the white bandage.

"Okay, I'm in a house full of werewolves, how is it possible someone broke a dish?" Stiles sleepily mumbled as he walked into the kitchen, rubbing at his eyes.

"Stiles. Call Scott." Cat's voice was low and he immediately dropped his arms to get a good look at her. She was still staring at me and his eyes drifted towards me before widening in horror.

"No." He cried, moving towards me.

"What? What's wrong?" I asked. "What's happening to me?" I wiped at the blood coming down my nose as Stiles began to use his sleeve to mop it away.

"I'll call him." Cat announced, whirling away and looking for her phone.

"You're going to be okay." Stiles promised me. "You're going to be okay."

"What's wrong?" I asked again as Cat turned to talk to Scott. I knew she was trying to be quiet so I couldn't hear her but still her voice was panicked and a few words slipped through. I heavily gulped, trying to breathe, hoping what she was saying wasn't real.

Cat was suddenly in front of me with a garbage can and before I could ask what she was doing, I turned towards it and began throwing up. I wiped my hand across my mouth, grimacing at the black liquid I found.

"I'm rejecting, aren't I?" I asked Stiles, my voice level, not letting the fear seep through.

"No, Scott will fix this." He said. "He'll know what to do."

I nodded but I wasn't comforted by his words. I knew how it worked. There was no way for this to be fixed. My body was rejecting the bite and it would only end painfully for me but I couldn't voice that, I didn't want to upset him and furthermore, I didn't want to believe it.

… … …

Stiles sat on the couch, holding me as I shook from the pain, wiping the black fluid away from me every once in a while. It didn't take long for Scott and Isaac to reappear and immediately the beta walked over to me and grabbed my hand. I watched the black veins crawl up his arm as he took some of my pain and I was able to breathe a little bit easier. Scott stared at us, completely horrified and I knew he felt guilty.

"It's not your fault." I whispered.

"Yes, it is." He said, stepping closer. "This is all my fault. I never should have done it."

I coughed out more of the black gunk and Stiles wiped it away. "I knew the risks."

"It usually takes." Stiles said. "Peter said it usually takes."

"There's nothing usual about me." I weakly joked before gasping, my back arching in pain.

Scott rushed forward and grabbed my hand, taking more pain away from me. "Lennox, is there anything I can do?"

"Trent will freak if he sees me like this. Please don't tell him yet."

"He needs to know." Scott told me.

"I'm going to die, Scott." I alleged. "I know this. I'd rather not see Trent until it's too late."

More coughing and I hastily wiped at my mouth, pain wracking my body as I let out a small cry. I closed my eyes and leaned against Stiles, trying to be comforted by the hand rubbing my back.

I don't know how long I stayed on that couch, Isaac and Scott taking turns grabbing my hand. I briefly heard Scott talk about how she couldn't get a hold of Derek or Peter, who would know how to handle this best. I knew everyone but Stiles had left at some point, doing what I didn't know. Time was meaningless and I only wanted the pain to stop.

"I can't take it anymore." I mumbled.

Stiles hand stilled. "What did you say?"

"It hurts." I whimpered. "I can't do it anymore."

"Lennox, please don't say that." He begged me.

I opened my eyes, a tear slipping down my cheek. "I can't." My eyes searched the room until they came to land on Scott who looked ready to cry. "Please, make the pain stop. Please just end it."

Scott stepped forward, claws growing on one hand.

"What?" Stiles cried. "No, Scott, you can't do this, you can't."

"I have to." Scott told him. "Stiles, she's suffering, there's nothing we can do."

"Please." I begged Stiles. "I just want it to stop."

"Scott." Cat cried, rushing into the room. "No, you can't do it. You can't kill an innocent."

"No, I have to do this. Look, I did this to her so it's only fair I end this for her, it's my job."

Cat looked like she wanted to say more but stopped herself, turning to me. "Lennox, Trent wants to see you, we'll give you some time, okay?" She motioned for the boys to follow her, Stiles even shifting to lie me down but I moved my arm to stop him, not wanting him to leave.

"Are you sure?" He asked.

I nodded, crying a little more as Trent ran into the room, kneeling down beside me and grabbing a hand.

"I'm sorry, Trent." I cried.

"Lenny, it's fine, don't cry." He told me, smoothing my hair back.

"I don't want to leave you."

Trent leaned forward, placing a kiss on my forehead. "I know but it's okay. It'll be okay, I promise."

"You'll do everything we talked about?" I asked, we had so many plans, to do crazy things, to travel the world.

"Every last thing, I'll do it, I know you'll be there."

"It hurts, Trent." More tears came down as I gasped. Dying hurt, it hurt a lot and I wanted nothing more than for it all to be over, even if I had to leave him.

"I know baby sis, it's okay to let go now."

With great effort I raised his hand, placing a kiss on it and mumbling I was sorry for the black liquid on him. He shook his head, saying he didn't care.

"I'm ready, please tell them I'm ready." I told him.

He nodded, giving me one last kiss as he stood up and left the room, leaving me with Stiles.

"You don't have to be around for this, you shouldn't."

"I'll be here until the end."

I sighed, leaning against him. "I was falling for you, hard and fast."

"Me too." He choked out.

I softly began to sing "And I'll be wearing white, when I come into your kingdom, I'm as green as the ring on my little cold finger. I've never known the lovin' of a man but it sure felt nice when he was holdin' my hand. There's a boy here in town, says he'll love me forever, who would have thought forever could be severed by..." I trailed off as I began to cough against him.

"I'm sorry I couldn't stay around for our third date." I told him when I was done coughing.

He pulled me closer and hugged me tight against him as Cat walked back into the room.

"Uh, Stiles, Scott wants to see you, he's getting ready and he could really talk to you."

"I don't want to leave her."

"It's okay." I told him. "Go, he needs you more."

"But he's not dying." The boy who I thought was the most amazing guy on the planet told me.

"No but he has to deal with the aftermath and he shouldn't have to. Please."

He stared at me a moment longer before leaning down to kiss me. When he pulled away, he gently laid me on the couch before leaving the room. Cat watched him leave before walking over to me and kneeling down, pulling something out of her pocket.

"You're an amazing person Lennox." She told me, placing a hand on my forehead "and I'm sorry it had to end like this."

"I know." I whispered.

"I can't let Scott do this, he became a true alpha because he refuses to kill. To do so will kill a piece of him forever and I can't do that to him."

"What are you doing?" I asked, my eyes rolling down to the vial in her hand.

"It's just something for the pain." She promised, pulling out a needle and uncapping it before withdrawing the liquid from the vial. "It will help, I promise."

Her hands were trembling as she grabbed my arm, "You're a good friend." I mumbled.

"I'm not." She softly cried, the tears pouring down my face. "I'm really not. I'm sorry Lennox, I'm so sorry." She plunged the needle into me, standing up when she pulled it out. She looked downright horrified by what she had just done.

My movements felt even more sluggish and I watched as she took a step back and then another, one hand coming up to her mouth as she muffled a sob.

"Wha…?" I tried to speak but I lost the ability to form words as my eyes grew heavy.

I blinked and when I opened them again, she had stepped further back, toppling over the coffee table as she let out another sob, scooting back until she hit the wall. Another blink and she had her arms wrapped around her knees, full out sobbing as she kept whispering sorry to me, over and over.

Trent, Stiles, Scott and Isaac came running into the room, at least I think they did, they were moving in slow motion.

"What did you do?" Scott hissed, grabbing Cat's arm.

"Dude, let her go." Isaac warned him.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." Cat continued crying.

"What the hell, Cat?" Stiles yelled, picking up the needle and vial she had dropped. "What did you put in in her?"

The blonde was unable to say more than I'm sorry.

I wanted to tell her it was okay, not to cry, it would be fine but I didn't get the chance, my eyes slipped shut and I entered the black void.
