I own nothing
Two days later Steve walked into their bedroom after his morning run. Evelyn was still curled up with his pillow asleep. The covers were kicked off her feet showing her slightly swollen ankles. Steve watched from the doorway the rise and fall of her breathing; it was breath taking sight. He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, before leaning over and kissed her forehead. The early morning sun was streaming in the windows. Evelyn moaned and moved closer to Steve trying to sleep more. Steve smile and chuckled softly as he watch her eyelashes fluttering a sure sign that she was waking up. Her eyes opened and looked at him sleepily yawned as she woke. He leaned down and kissed her yawn from her lips. Before, he leaned down and kissed her belly twice.
"Good Morning honey, Happy Valentine's day. How are you and our little munchkins this morning?" Steve asked.
"Morning, Happy Valentine's day sweetheart. They are asleep at the moment."
Steve helped her to sit up and let his hand travel to the bump where twins rested. Evelyn hands traveled down and rested over top of his. The babies have been moving fluttering feeling that only Evelyn could really feel thus far. She cuddled closer to Steve's side.
"I can't wait to be able to feel them move and kick." Steve said softly.
"It will be not long now. Rachael says it should be anytime now."
Evelyn made the move to get up. Steve mind traveled to all images of their children and being able to feel them move. It was a beautiful image to Steve.
Steve got up and walked into the bathroom where he heard the water running. Evelyn was washing her face. Her hair was sleepy mess that framed her face. She was still dressed in soft cotton nightdress in soft green color that hugged her larger boobs and her baby bump. He watched from the doorway as she finished washing her face removing the soap from her face. She started to brush her teeth. To him she could not be more beautiful in that moment. She turned and looked at him with a questioning look.
"What?" Evelyn asked after removing the toothpaste from her mouth.
"You're beautiful" Steve said softly.
"You are just saying that. I look like a swallowed a basketball." Evelyn joked.
Steve walked over and lean his head on her shoulder. He kissed her cheek as his hands traveled around her middle. She let out a little sigh and snuggled into his embrace.
"No, you are breathtaking." Steve said.
At that moment Evelyn felt one of twins start to move. Then suddenly a little gasp left her mouth a she felt a kick right under Steve right hand. Steve and Evelyn's eyes met in the mirror. He had a huge grin on his face. She turned sideways. Steve sank to his knees. He placed his hands were the kick was felt, only to have it kicked again. It was followed by another thump on the other side. They both started to laugh; then he pressed a kiss to where the kicking was taking place.
"Someone agrees with me. So Honey, what do you and our little munchkins want for breakfast."
"Surprise us" Evelyn said with giggle.
A little bit later Evelyn came downstairs dressed in rose pink maternity sweater and pair of jeans and pink flats. She walked over to Steve; who was cooking what looked like omelet. One was already on the plate next to the stove.
"Smells good" Evelyn said as she wrapped her arms around Steve's middle.
Steve smiled as he continued to cook. He felt a kick in the center of his back. Evelyn let out a little "ow" before walking over and leaned against the counter. Steve instantly turned and started to look her over. Evelyn's hand was over her stomach rubbing the spot that was just kicked.
"Are you alright honey? Are our munchkins alright?"
"They are fine; I'm fine Steve. One of them, at least, has your strength that is all."
Steve gave her a worried look. He finished the second omelet before turning to look at her. She lean up and kissed his cheek and then his lips softly.
"If you are still worried we can talk to Rachel about it at our appointment tomorrow. We knew that this was possibility"
Evelyn took one of the plates from Steve's hand. Steve followed her into the dining room and pulled out the chair for her. He took the seat across from her and looked in her eyes.
"Like I would be anywhere else baby; I'm just worried about them maybe hurting you."
Evelyn regarded him as she took a bit of the omelet and made happy noise. She reached across the table and squeezed his hand. It was clear to see the love, devotion, and worry that were present in his eyes.
Steve, sweetheart you forget that I have a healing factor and I was subject to…" Evelyn started.
Steve squeezed her hand and brought their join hands to his mouth and kissed her knuckles.
"I know baby I just don't know what I would do if anything happened to you or them." Steve finished.
"Nothing is going happen to us."
Evelyn leaned across the small dining table and kissed him. He kissed her back. Then they pulled apart breathless and rest their foreheads against each others. Then they went back to their meal.
Later that day Evelyn and Natasha were in Evie's and Steve's apartment in Stark Tower which Evelyn and Steve would be staying in for the night because of appointment very early in the morning and meeting that Steve had to be at, at six am. The smell of baking pot pies filled the apartment. Steve was due home any moment now. Evelyn had a cell phone to her ear as Tasha sat next to her looking over a list of items that would be in exhibit. Tasha eyes went wide when she read one of items on the list. Evelyn quickly scribed down a room number and name of nursing home and address; before she hung up the phone.
"His old uniform; they want to put his uniform into the exhibit."
"Yeah, I guess they have the rest of the outfit from his band of howling commandos so it makes sense I guess." Evelyn said then made a little noise as one of the twins kicked again let her know that they were awake.
Evelyn rubbed where the baby kicked then got up and head into the kitchen. Natasha quickly followed.
"Are they kicking?" Natasha asked.
Evelyn had a finished chocolate cake with strawberries decorating top on the counter and turned to face Natasha with a huge smile on her face.
"They just started this morning" Evelyn answered.
Natasha walked closer to Evelyn. She looked down at Evelyn's belly with a questioning look in her green eyes. Evelyn reached for Tasha hand and placed it were one of the twins were kicking. Tasha hand was quickly greeted with a kick.
"It's amazing" Natasha stated.
"Yeah it is."
Natasha hand then a felt a strong kick which cause Evelyn to wince.
"Do they get any stronger?"
"Sometimes Steve's worried about that them having his strength and unintentionally hurting me." Evelyn stated.
"I would be too." Tasha said honestly.
Evelyn walked over to the oven but stopped when Tasha walked closer to her and placed her hand on her shoulder.
"We will talk to Rachel about it tomorrow." Evelyn started.
Natasha knew that was Evie way of dealing with things that worried her; put on a brave front and not think about the things that worried or upset her. It came with years of training as spy. Natasha pulled Evelyn into tight hug feeling a kick on her abdomen. Evelyn started to cry as Natasha hugged her.
"You can talk to me." Tasha said as they pulled apart.
"I know...Tasha, I know... I worried about so much. Them hurting me is least of my worries. I scared that they are going to born to soon. I know twins are born early but my mind can't wrap it head around that thought. I'm so worried. I don't want them to be born early at all i want them to stay inside me full term. But I know that impossible. I love them already. I'm scared; I'm going to cause them harm. This is all new to me. I knew it was possible and we wanted to have children but Tasha no amount of planning can prepare you for it. It not like a normal pregnancy completely either well to a point with Steve and me subject to that serum god knows what it will do to our children. I put on brave face because I can't think about all that could go wrong. " Evelyn said really in tears.
"It going to be alright. Does Steve know you this scared?" Tasha asked
Evelyn looked into Tasha's eyes and shook her head no. She looked down and bit her bottom lip; she looked up slowly removing the tear tracks from her face.
"I haven't found a way to tell him yet. I tried but every time I get close there so much worry in his eyes already. I can't do that to him. He worried enough as it is. I don't want to add to it. " Evelyn said.
"You have to tell him. Evie, he has the right and need to know. He does everything in his power to keep you and them safe. He can help you deal with your fears; help shoulder them." Tasha stated.
"I know. I will. Can you get pot pies out please? Steve would have a cow if he saw be lifting anything that weighs more the loaf a bread." Evelyn asked
Natasha the golden brown pot pies out of the oven placing them on the counter. Steve at that moment came through the door of the apartment.
"Honey I'm home." Steve said coming to the kitchen of the apartment.
Steve came over and kissed Evelyn on her lips softly handing her a bouquet of three dozen roses in red, white and pink. His hand trailed down to the bump. She leaned over and kissed his cheek after she smelt the roses.
"It smells good" Steve commented.
"I will be going. Have a happy Valentine's Day Captain, Evie." Natasha said as she left the love birds alone giving Evelyn a look that read "tell him."
That night after dinner Steve and Evelyn were relaxing on the sofa in the living room as love songs playing in the background. The roses sat on the counter in vase. Steve was rubbing her feet as she munched on the chocolate cover strawberries he got her as surprise. She leaned up and kissed him. He smiled and kissed her forehead before switching feet.
"I love you" Evelyn said softly.
"I love you my darling"
Evelyn closed her eyes and made a happy content moan as he continued rubbing her swollen ankles. He paused in his foot rub and looked over to his wife. He reached into his pocket and placed a box on her chest. Evelyn opened her eyes when he placed the box on her chest. She looked at him oddly as she reached for the box. She opened the box inside was what looked like an old fashioned golden key. It was simple in design and looked like it came out of the forties. She touched it softly but looked at him with questioning look.
"Happy Valentine's day, darling. I was not sure what to get you so I figured I would give you something that would symbolize our love for each other. So now you have the key to my heart." Steve said softly
Steve watched as she processed that information. She started to tear up at site of the key. Steve leaned over placing the box on the table near the strawberries and pulled her into his protective embrace as tears started to course down her face. He rested his head against the top of her head and let her cry it out. Her hormones made her emotions a little crazy. She moved in his arms so he could see her face. She had huge grin on her face as the tears course down her face still.
"I love it; it's perfect." Evelyn said as she leaned up and kissed him passionately.
When they pulled away Evelyn nearly stumbled as she hurried to the other room. Steve was instantly on his feet making sure she did not fall. He followed her into their bedroom at the apartment. He leaned against the doorway. She walked back over to him with silver small package with red bow on the top. She placed in his hands with huge smile on her face and love shining through her eyes. He kissed her lip then the tip of her nose.
"Happy Valentine's day, sweetheart." Evelyn said
Steve unwrapped the package he got to an old looking box. He opened it and took out to two gold cufflinks that looked older then on he remembered in the forties. She placed her hands on his on his forearms.
"They were my great-great-great grandfather's. I wanted to give you something that was from my heart. My dad said they were past down to father to son."
"I love them"
Steve pulled her into his arms he peppered her face with kisses. He stop on her lips and kissed deeply until he felt a kick in his abs from the bump. Steve pulled away and sweep her up into his arms he deposited the box on the table near the key. He sat down with her still in his lap his hand went to the bump and rubbed it. They sat cuddling in each other arms every so often on they would kiss. Their hands were joined over the baby bump. They murmured I love you as the soft music played on into the night.
