Chapter 11- A tragic past but a better future
Alex was silent as she sat on the hospital bed, her fronds resting on her shoulders softly as the sound of the nurses and doctors attended to the people that really needed help. She sat there her brown eyes fixed on a pink mom like monster hugging her kid that had a broken arm.
She raised an eyebrow at the couple; everyone seemed to be happy except her and a few others in her life, which she openly admitted she may have contributed if not caused some of the heartbreak. But how can a mom and her kid be so happy together under the circumstances of a broken arm?
Alex tilted her head a little trying to think why the agents even sent her to the hospital it was clear than other than a bruised arm from the impact of the concrete was the only thing wrong with her. Other than that she was fine physically anyway, all the doctors did was run some tests like blood and other stuff that Alex wasn't really listening to. Wanting to be a doctor once she already knew about the slandered tests they did to people who come in to A&E.
Looking down at her wrist for the countless amounts of times in one day Alex narrowed her eyes at them cursing the damn marks to disappear because she disapproved of them. But that wasn't going to happen, what she did was in the past and the past is dead.
Alex's gaze was drawn to a open set of doors where a few doctors were wheeling out Ridge in a hospital bed, after giving him some stitches lucky Alex hadn't priced any internal organs well except his stomach which Alex had penetrated in self-defence. He looked dazed like they had overdosed him on the drugs giving him a blank expression on the face. His hands were now cuffed to the side of the bed preventing escape.
"Not like he's going anywhere in the state I left him in." Alex said as she let out her signature smile, the first time she had done in days.
"Miss Dibb, Jonathan Ridge wants to talk to you… I trust that you'll say no but he insisted call it his last request before he faces a trial that I can guarantee he won't walk out of this time." An agent said from behind Alex making her jump a little from the voice.
She turned her head to see the agent behind her. "I think a word is appropriate, I'm not sayin' it will be a nice conversation with tea and cakes more like a couple of words that I shouldn't say when children are near." Alex cracked letting out another smile. She could see from the movement of the agent and the way his body had stiffened that he was holding in a snigger
The agent lead her into a side ward where Ridge lay their still, a series of pipes connected to his body supplying it with blood and anaesthetic to keep him somewhat sedated and calm in case he tried to make a break for it. Although that option seemed unlikely from the state of his body as Alex had caved him up quite a bit.
She looked at the large monster as he took in deep breaths in sync with the vitals monitor at the side of him, her gazed was entranced with the theory of pulling the leads out of him and placing and replacing it with a syringe of adrenalin that lay on the side table.
"I know what you're thinking?" Ridge said in a groggy voice that was just above a whisper.
"What?" Alex responded with the only word that she could come up with.
"I see the way you eye the syringe, I can see it in your eyes. Opaque and dark... Eyes only a few have yet I've seen my fair share of them…" Ridge said as he lifted himself up into a sitting position causing him to whimper a little in pain as he tried to pull his cuffed hands free to no avail.
"Debonski... A famous poet in our world, he had a fascination with medical journals and the darkness with the eyes leading to the darkness in the souls… Why did you quote one of his pieces then?" Alex muttered looking at him from the far side of the room not wanting to take any chances if she got too close.
"Because he was talking about your eyes… the eyes of a killer. Don't even bother to say you haven't killed before I can see it so well." Ridge said his voice returning back to its dark tone.
" Yeah the way I calved you up people should start calling me that city butcher or chopper or decapitator or something... But I suppose I could say the same for you…" Alex let out a smirk, something Ridge was not expecting from Alex. He only thought she would design it and leave the room dropping the conversation as she ran out crying at his accusation, but not Alex she knew she had killed and had come to terms with it.
"Not the reaction I was expecting…" Ridge cracked as he let out a small whimper as he shifted his body.
"I know… You see I had a little incident when I was young and stupid." Alex raised her arms and showed him her scared wrists; the strange thing was she wasn't ashamed of them in his presence maybe because she saw a monster lower and darker than her who unlike Randall had no chance of redemption. "Collage is a place where you are tested in more ways than exams guess I failed both of them." Alex let out anther smirk at the dark creature.
He smirked back at her and raised his demonic head showing his neck had a faint line of scaring that like Alex had healed but remained from years earlier. Alex let out a small gasp at the creature and her face softened a little.
Noticing this Ridge let out a small snigger reoshoreing Alex not to petty him like her "sweet Randy."
"I had a little incident with a mother who was beaten to death and a father who used me as his personal punishing bag after he ended her life with the abuse. Let's say I didn't see another way out and used metal wire to hang myself when I was fourteen I ended up virtually slitting my throat until somebody from next door heard my screaming and came to cut me down while my dear dad was passed out with a bottle of his finest. But hey that's my family life…" Ridge let out a smirk to Alex who had placed a hand over her mouth as her eyes became a little glassy. "What about you? Guessing you didn't have a family to support you…?"
"My mom died when I was little and my dad worked a lot to support me and my little sister I raised her… I had to grow up a little too soon and stop been a kid."Alex took in a sigh as she looked down at her wrists and narrowed her eyes at them.
"Look I don't think you want to know my life story and I'm really not that interested in yours when I'm in this much pain. So I mean all I wanted to say was thank you for saving my life and I know you just think this is a lie but I wasn't going to hurt that girl like you thought I was…"
"Yeah when shit falls down from the sky then I'll believe you… I know exactly what you wanted to do to her and me… This little pep talk doesn't change anything; you still got to answer for what you did… And I will be a pleasure to see you locked up forever." Alex said as she headed for the exit trying to avoid eye contact with Ridge's piercing red eyes that were the opposite of Randall's holding only darkness and hate with no Singh of remorse or regret.
"I you ever want to talk Angel… I'll be in one of two places… this hospital bed or the city prison… An offer to call it even for saving my life, you are my guardian Angel for saving me aren't you?" Ridge let out a smirk knowing full well that was the name Randall called her by.
"Nobody calls me Angel you sun of a bitch…" Alex muttered in a dark tone with her hand placed on the door. He looked back her dark eyes reviling nothing. "Don't make me stab you again, but the next time like I said I can guarantee the bloody state you'll be in I promise you wont wake up."
Ridge let out a smirk as Alex exited the room as she exited she wiped something from her eye. She looked over to one of the agents and nodded at him sternly.
After questioning and confirmation that Alex would support the victim by testifying against Ride the agents called for somebody to pick her up as long as they could talk to her the next day to answer more questions and give a few statements.
Alex looked out of the door towards the exit of the hospital she leaned against the wall wrapped in her dark coat. Alex's thoughts distant from the rest of the world as she eyed the heavy snowflakes that had begun to fall already covering the city in a thick blanket of its pureness.
A hand suddenly pressed against Alex's shoulder holding a firm grip. "Miss Dibb…We need to tell you something…" A voice said from behind Alex who she recognised as somebody she knew who worked in the hospital.
"Don't bother I know what you're going to say I already know about it." Alex said and then turned to face Reggs a green fluffy monster that gave even Sulley a run for his money both in height and the low yet friendly tone of his voice.
The large monster let out a grin and pushed a pair of old style glasses up his face as he shifted one clip board to the other hand. "Well I think congratulations are in order aren't they? Heard you and Randall are tying the knot and getting married soon." Reggs muttered as he looked at Alex.
"Yeah maybe…" Alex muttered as she crossed her arms and softened her face to the doctor she both respected and envied.
"I know you had it rough Alex, what happened when you were young and the events of two years ago then this happened. But don't let that get you down. You didn't get the best start in the world with your mother's death and father who worked all the time. But this is a chance to be happy I see what you're like with Mr Boggs, you're the same Summer as before."
Alex looked up and shot a glance at the monster darkening her expression for using her old name a forgotten name, the name that Alex didn't want to remember.
She looked at the floor and closed her eyes for a moment allowing it to pass by and forget about what had just flashed through her mind.
"Yeah I suppose…" Alex muttered softly as she folded her arms once more and pulled into herself as her gaze drifted from the large monster to a slightly more familiar face that had appeared behind Reggs.
Randall stood there looking at Alex, his thoughts just as distant as hers both of them lost in what could happen. His gaze softened as he looked at his Angel allowing his face to become softer. Randall's body was pale as he shivered continuously.
Alex's eyes softened as she noticed the shivering and took as step over to him meeting face to face. His green and reviling eyes against her brown shields, Alex placed a hand onto Randall's shoulder and felt his icy scales that welcomed her warm hands.
"Why are you so cold?" Alex said her voice choked a little and sounded softer than before as she studied Randall's face trying to see what was locked away inside his thoughts.
"Because I was out there looking for you…" Randall muttered his voice was so serious but not bitter.
"What if I told you I didn't want to be found?" Alex muttered softly under her breath as she placed her other hand on his shoulder and caressed them sharing her warmth against his frozen skin.
Randall swallowed hard and shifted his hand onto Alex's chin pulling her gaze up into his eyes. "I'd come anyway Al because I made a promise to keep you safe and to always be there. I knew something was wrong, but I failed… I'm sorry Al…" Randall moved his hand to Alex's cheek and stroked the small scar on her face with his soft fingers never dropping his gaze from hers.
Alex's eyes narrowed as she let out a sigh and lowered her head until she felt her heart crack and she threw her arms around Randall's body and held him tight giving all her warmth to him as she finally let the hate go and welcomed in Randall's love.
Randall returned the gesture by encasing her body with all four of his arms as he slowly stroked her dread lock fronds allowing her heat and love to come into him and reawaken his body.
"I-I was so sacred… I nearly Ki…" Alex muttered softly until Randall cut her off.
"I know… It's okay… I know… Forget about… I'm sorry I wasn't there…" Randall pulled Alex closer and held her even tighter in his arms.
"I'm scared Randy…"
Yey Alex forgives Randall happy now? There still a little distant but you'll just have to wait and see if things get better.
Probably next week or the weekend I'll update next sorry I just don't have anytime this week. But anyway hope you enjoyed and don't forget to review or PM on what you thought or would like to see with these characters.
Till then bye…
