I'm sorry for the delay on this chapter. There was much thinking, planning and editing I had to do with it. Now I'm finally happy with it and am ready to let you guys read it and enjoy it. There is an announcement in the note at the end, so please be sure to read that. Disclaimer: I don't own Labyrinth or the characters. I'm just borrowing them.

Chapter 10

"That wretched girl. She just couldn't keep her nose out of it," one growled.

"What would you have us do sir?" another asked.

"Nothing," a calm voice answered. "All we can do is sit tight, plan and wait for the right moment."

Gina sat in a chair, her legs kicking in the air as she watched her lady sleep. She had come back injured from her visit to the Nature realm.

Soon after she had come back with the king, he had come to her in the library and asked her to keep an eye on Lady Amelia and make sure she rested.

She did as she was asked and kept an eye on her as well as keep her company. She straightened as her lady stirred and woke.

"Can I get you anything Lady Amelia?" she asked.

"I'm fine for now Gina, thanks," she answered.

"How are you feeling?"

"The ache has dulled. I'll probably be back on my feet again in a day or so," she said as she sat up against the pillows.

"Is there anything I can do?" Gina asked.

Amelia opened her mouth to answer no, then hesitated. "There is something…"

"Name it My Lady and I'll get it," Gina said, readying to hop off the chair.

"It's not something for you to get Gina," Amelia said, stilling Gina's movements. "I want to know about your king."

"What about him?" Gina asked.

"Well...where did he come from? How did he become your king here?" she asked.

By the look on Gina's face, she was excited to be telling the tale of her king.

"Well, he is the son of a powerful Seer called Father. He is one of the oldest Seers which is why everyone calls him Father. His mother is a Seeker who works with his father. From what I heard that is how his parents met," Gina started.

She paused for a moment as if to see if she had her lady's attention. She couldn't help but smile when she saw she had her undivided attention.

"Kingy is also a powerful Seer like his father, but not as powerful," Gina continued. "I don't know much about his growing up, but I do know he spent a lot of time developing his magic."

Amelia hung onto every word that came from Gina's mouth. She had been to shy to ask the Goblin King himself where he was from and how he became king here. It was a story she had been interested in hearing and was glad Gina was willing to tell it.

"Our realm was known as the land of the goblins. We were a rowdy bunch and unliked by many. A lot of fae tried to come to take over and control us. We either drove them out or drove them crazy with how rowdy we got. Then he came," Gina said, absorbed in her own story. "He was different. He didn't try to just take over or control us. He asked to be our king and that he would protect us and help us if we let him. Other fae did show up wanting to take over. Kingy didn't like that. If they didn't come on a matter of business, he would turn them out. The labyrinth was built and anyone who opposed us or kingy, were made to go through the labyrinth first. It also served as a form of protection as you saw with the Red Caps. Kingy was different from the rest that had come here. He listened to our opinion. If there was a problem he helped fix it and he protects us. He even gets rowdy with us once in a while. He allows us to have fun. He earned our respect by being different and helping us. We take orders and obey him because he is our king. He's never steered us wrong and for that we will always be grateful."

Amelia started for a moment, realizing Gina's story was finished.

"How did this realm become known as the one of Dreams?" she asked.

"It was kingy's decision. He wanted to do something different from his parents, but at the same time help keep the bonds strong with Aboveground," Gina answered. "If it was doable, as he said, he wanted to make wishes and dreams come true."

"I see," Amelia said then gave her a smile. "Thank you Gina. I really enjoyed that."

Jareth paced in his, for once, empty throne room. It was going to happen again and very soon. He had foreseen it.

He was hoping that Amelia would have been gone before this would have happened. The main house wasn't finished yet and she had fully recovered. He only hoped that she wouldn't be bothered or come to see what was going on.

Then he felt it. He walked over to the window and looked over the labyrinth past the Goblin city. A dragon had flown in, which wasn't unusual. Dragons flew over his kingdom all the time. What made it different this time was the fact he landed outside the labyrinth.

"Your Highness!" a guard called shortly after He bowed quickly as he entered the throne room. "Your Highness, outside the labyrinth is a-"

"Dragon," Jareth finished. He shifted out of the throne room and appeared outside, a little ways away from where the dragon had landed.

"Your Highness," the amber red dragon greeted. "I mean no harm."

"Why honor us with your visit?" Jareth asked.

"I wanted to speak with Lady Amelia. I heard she was here," he answered. "I wanted to properly thank her for helping me."

Jareth thought he recognized him as the one Amelia had helped back in the Nature realm.

"That is all you wish to do?" he asked.

"Yes, then I'll be on my way," he answered.

"I'll bring her here," Jareth said before shifting out.

He found her in the garden, sitting lotus style on the ground as he approached her.

"Good afternoon Your Highness," she greeted, opening her eyes.

"How did you know it was me?" he asked, then cut her off as she opened her mouth. "No, let me guess. The wind whispered to you that I was approaching."

"The wind did tell me, but not in the way you're thinking," she answered as she stood. "It carried the sound of your boots and your scent to me."

"I see," he answered, not sure if he should be flattered or uneasy. "You need to come with me."

"Why, is something wrong?" she asked, concern showing on her face.

"Not yet," he said. "Someone is here to see you."

"Who?"

"Someone I guess you could call a friend," he answered, holding out his hand to her. She took it and he shifted them out to the dragon.

"Oh," Amelia said, surprise in her voice. "Hello."

"Hello, Lady Amelia," he greeted back then turned to the Goblin King. "A moment Your Highness?"

"I can't go away. You know that," he said, crossing his arms.

Amelia turned to him and opened her mouth to speak but was cut off.

"No. I'm not going anywhere," he said, finality in his voice.

"We'll just have a witness then," the dragon said, getting Amelia's attention back. "I wanted to properly thank you for what you did for me. The time and the circumstances wouldn't allow me to do so. I wanted to give you something."

"You don't have to," she quickly said.

"I don't have to," he agreed. "But I want to."

He raised a clawed paw above her. Nothing seemed to happen for a moment then the air became electrified with his energy. Amaltheia took gasped as she felt it intensify then flow into her. Jareth stood by, watching. He had been witness to something like this once before. Even though he knew what was happening, it still took his breath away to see it.

Then it was all over. The energy stilled and the dragon lowered his paw.

"Now the skies are open to you," he said. "I hope you enjoy this gift, and may it be of use to you in the future."

Amaltheia looked up at him in wonder. Did he just give her a gift with the use of his power alone?

"Thank you," she said.

"My name is Vezoth. Most creatures know me and know how to find me. If you ever are in need of my help, don't be afraid to call," he said. Amaltheia opened her mouth to speak, but he raised a paw to stop her. "Another time. You forget we're not alone."

Her breath caught in her throat as she turned to the Goblin King. She had forgotten he was there.

"Until we meet again," Vezoth said before unfolding his wings and taking off.

"Flight," she breathed as she watched Vezoth fly off. She turned to the Goblin King. "If you have time, could you teach me to fly?"

He seemed to think for a moment. "I have a little bit of time."

He offered his hand to her again. She took it, butterflies filling her stomach as she did so.

"I don't want you to go flying around the labyrinth without me. Understand?" Jareth said as they stood at the top of the tower.

"I understand," she replied.

"You should be able to feel your new energy flowing through you so you should be able to harness that power," he said.

"Yeah, that'll be easy," she replied. "I can already feel it."

"Good. Before we change forms I'm going to give you some advice. Pay attention to the wind patterns. If it changes, you'll need to change your course. If it dies, start using your wings or you will fall. Don't fight the air currents, use them for gliding," he instructed. "This shouldn't be hard since your element is the air."

She nodded in response. She watched as the Goblin King changed to his owl form and perched onto the low wall of the tower. She connected to her new energy, easily changing into her new form.

Jareth watched as she took on her new form. She was around the same size as him. Most likely a small falcon by the looks of it. Her wings were brown with her breast being a tawny brown. She had black streaks coming down her face from her eyes. He had seen these species of birds before Aboveground, but had always avoided them.

Amelia flapped her wings, hovering high enough to land on top of the low wall. Her claws slipped and she fell back onto the floor of the tower. She jumped up, using her wings to gain height and tried to land on the wall again. Her claws slipped again and she ended up on the floor again, less gracefully this time.

Jareth sighed before changing back. He leaned against the wall, watching as she tried to perch again and failed.

"Grab it," he said, opening and closing his hand to emphasize his point.

The look he received from her clearly read 'I'm trying.'

He knelt down next to her and held out his arm. "Step onto me."

She tentatively lifted her leg onto his arm.

"Now grab," he said.

It took her a few minutes to figure out how to move the muscles she wasn't used to using in a different way. When she finally figured it out and perched on his arm, he lifted her up.

"Now perch," he ordered, pointing to the wall.

She flapped her wings, being mindful of his face, as she lifted herself from his arm and landed on the wall, this time grabbing onto it.

"Good," he said. He looked out over the labyrinth for a moment. "Since we're up higher, we're going to start with a glide. Follow my lead."

He changed forms and didn't hesitate to glide out away from the tower. Amaltheia flapped her wings, lifting herself from the wall and followed after the Goblin King.

The wind easily caught under her wings and she was lifted higher. She quickly caught up with the Goblin King, gliding next to him. She stayed close to him as they flew over the labyrinth. She drank in the sights it had to offer. Now that she was closer to it and not in any danger, she was able to enjoy the beauty it had.

All the stone work seemed to be carefully placed. The forest was green and lush. The hedge maze was shaped and trimmed to perfection.

A lot of love and thought had been made in the creation of the labyrinth.

The Goblin King called to her, grabbing her attention before turning back towards the castle. He shifted as he landed gracefully in the tower. Amelia hovered as she changed back.

"Thank you. That was...beautiful," she said.

"I'm glad you enjoyed it," he replied, before turning to the stairs. "I have some things to attend to."

"Alright. Thanks again," she called as he disappeared down the stairs.

The castle was quiet. Most of the goblins weren't milling about like they usually did. The Goblin King was also absent that morning at breakfast.

Amaltheia was thankful to see Gina was working in the library that morning.

"Gina, can you tell me what's going on?"

Gina turned to her. "What's going on where?"

"Here," Amelia specified. "Something's going on, it's to quiet."

"I...I can't really talk about it," Gina admitted. "You'll probably find out soon though."

"Dream realm business?" Amelia guessed.

"I can't say," Gina repeated.

"Alright," she said with a small sigh. She stayed there most of the morning, helping Gina put books away before she left to attend to her other duties.

"I wish the Goblin King would came and take you away right now!" she yelled over the wailing baby.

She stood there panting as anger flooded through her. She looked up at the window in time to see it slide open. She let out a terrified yell as a white owl flew in. It changed shape and a man stood there.

"Who are you?" she demanded.

"You called and I answered," the Goblin King calmly said.

"Goblin King? That's just a story. You can't be real."

"Yet I stand before you," he replied.

"...What do you want?"

"To claim what is mine," he answered.

Goblins surrounded the crib of the still wailing baby. The girl backed away, a look of disgust coming over her face. The goblins soon disappeared along with the baby.

"You do have a chance to get him back," he started.

"No," she instantly replied. "I don't want him. He's brought nothing but trouble since the moment he was born, no conceived."

"You're sure this is what you want?" he questioned.

"Yes, no doubt about it," she answered, then concern took over her features. "What will happen now? People will ask questions."

"The wish will alter their memory. You gave your son up for adoption and forgot about him. Only you will know the truth of what happened to him," he explained. "Deciding what to do with your life now is up to you."

With that Jareth faded from the nursery.

Dream realm business.

Amaltheia could only guess what was going to happen. As Gina had said, her answer came to her and quickly.

A baby's cry filled the castle as she made her way down the hall that led to the garden. She stopped dead, turned back and headed to the throne room. When she got there, it was deserted with no sign of the crying baby or the Goblin King.

It didn't matter where she went, she could hear the baby cry. The garden, the library and her room. Twilight had fallen and the baby was still crying.

"He should have worn himself out by now," she muttered.

Deciding to give up on sleep, she dressed and left her room, determined to find out where the baby was.

She followed the crying, finding it louder at the room of staircases. She stopped near a wall where she was sure the crying was coming from. She reached her hand forward, finding only air. She walked through the illusion, finding an archway with a closed door. She gently opened it and entered. She was greeted with the glare from the Goblin King.

"You're not supposed to be here," he growled.

"Let me help," she said, looking at the wailing baby in his arms. Judging by the clothes, this baby was a boy.

"Get out," he said.

"He's been crying all day," she calmly replied. "You could use a break. Let me try to calm him. down."

The Goblin King opened his mouth to protest, only to sigh instead. He walked over to her and offered the baby to her.

"Good luck."

"Come here little man," She said as she gently took the baby from the Goblin King's arms. The baby continued to cry as Amelia laid him on her shoulder. "I know, it's a strange place."

She rubbed his back as she bounced him.

"I tried that, it didn't work," the Goblin King said.

"Rocking?"

"Didn't work."

The baby gave a loud wail. Deciding it would be better for her ear, Amelia carefully shifted the baby from her shoulder to the crook of her arm.

"What's his name?" she asked.

"Joey," he answered. He made his way over to the wall next to the window and leaned against it. He reached up and ran a gloved hand over his face.

"Shh Joey," Amelia said, cradling the baby closer to her. "You're alright. You're safe here."

The baby seemed to quiet little by little before stopping completely.

"Oh you're a cuddler, aren't you?" Amelia smiled down at him.

"You mean to tell me he just wanted to be held closer?" the Goblin King asked, frustration hinted in his voice.

"It's a sense of security," Amelia replied. "I was the same way."

The Goblin King sighed as he walked to a small cabinet. He opened it and pulled a bottle from it. "Mind feeding him now he's calmed down?"

"Not at all," she answered.

She took the bottle and coaxed Joey into taking it. He held onto the bottle as he suckled from it hungrily. Once satisfied Joey would be quiet for a while, the Goblin King dropped into one of the arm chairs in the room.

"Is the wisher running-"

"No," he answered. "She didn't want him back."

She glanced at the Goblin King before turning her attention back to Joey. "Teen mother?"

"She was young," he answered.

Amelia nodded. "It's common, unfortunately."

"They have children up there and are always so willing to give them away," he muttered.

It was also common, but Amelia knew better than to voice that. Mortals had babies, gave them away and had more.

As she looked down at Joey she noticed something. A thin scar on his cheek. It was something that could easily be explained as an accident. Then she noticed the circular scar on the back of his right hand. She had to wonder how many other scars he had.

"She doesn't deserve to have him back," she said suddenly.

"Why is that?" the Goblin King asked.

"She abused him."

He got up at that and came over to them. He took a moment to really look at Joey, now seeing the scars Amelia had found.

Anger filled him.

Sensing the mood change Joey started getting distressed, pushing the bottle away.

"Your Highness, calm down please," Amelia begged, hoping to stop the crying before it started.

Not wanting to make him cry more the Goblin King went to the glass door in the room and walked out onto the balcony there. Joey quieted down again once the negative energy left the room.

After Joey had drank his fill, Amaltheia rocked him till she was able to get him to sleep. After tucking him in she went to the door the Goblin King had exited through. She hesitated for a moment then went out on the balcony.

"Are you alright?" she asked.

There was a long moment of silence before he spoke. "There have been so many parents who have wished their child away. So many reasons to have them wished away. She had the most ridiculous reason."

"Then why take him?" she asked.

"I could tell he was unloved as well as unwanted," he answered. "I shouldn't have given her the choice to get him back."

"...What will happen to him?" she asked, glancing at the glass door.

"I'll send a message tomorrow that there is a boy needing a new home. I'll get an answer, I always do," he said then glanced at her. "You should go to bed."

"I'll stay with him tonight," she offered, continuing before he could protest. "You were with him all day, get some rest. If you need me to, I can care for him tomorrow so you can concentrate on the work you need to do."

He seemed to contemplate that for a long moment. "Don't get attached to him, unless you plan on taking him in."

"I am not ready for a baby," she replied. "I know you'll see that he gets a good home. That'll be enough for me."

WWW

Sunlight poured in through the windows of the castle. Jareth had been awake since before the first rays of light broke over the horizon. He had several notifications sent to the other realms, wanting word of the new baby to spread quickly. The sooner Joey found a good home and settled down, the easier it would be for him to adjust.

Once those were done, he left his personal quarters and went to check on Amelia and Joey. He was greeted with a smile from Amelia upon entering.

"How was he last night?"

"He stirred a bit once but he never did fully wake up," she answered. "He slept in later than I did and he took another full bottle this morning."

"Good."

"How are you this morning?" she asked.

"I have everything done I need to have done for him, but I have other things to attend to," he answered.

'Not exactly what I asked,' Amaltheia thought to herself.

"Are you sure you don't mind caring for him?" the Goblin King asked.

"Not at all," she answered.

"Thank you."

"It's really not a problem at all Your Highness."

WWW

To Jareth's surprise a few days quietly went by. Usually he would have had several couples come in to see the baby by now.

He figured not many couples were trying at that point in time, or were content with no children at all.

Amaltheia kept Joey happy and busy. She took him for walks in the garden, played with him, told him mortal tales she had grown up with and even sang to him. She was standing out on the balcony with him when one of the guards beckoned for her to bring Joey to the throne room.

A woman was there and she gasped in awe at the baby in Amelia's arms.

"He's so precious," she cooed as Amelia approached her.

"Would you like to hold him?" she offered.

The woman turned to the Goblin King. "May I?"

"Please," he replied.

The woman gingerly lifted Joey from Amelia's arms. She cradled him close as she smiled down at him. Anybody looking at them could easily tell there was an instant connection. The moment was wonderful, but it was short lived.

"You don't have permission to be here!"

"I know she's here."

"You can't-"

"I'm not leaving without her."

Hearing the commotion, Joey started to get distressed as a man walked in, a guard right behind him.

"I'm sorry Your Highness, I couldn't stop him from coming in."

"It's all right," the Goblin King said, waving off the guard.

The guard bowed before heading back to his post. The man approached the woman.

"May."

"I'm sorry. I couldn't help it," she replied.

Amaltheia backed away, wanting to give them privacy.

The man looked down at the baby then at his partner. "He won't replace the one we lost."

"I know but… He's so precious and he needs a good home. A home that we can give him," she replied. "Can't we…?"

He sighed before looking down at the baby. He held out a finger to Joey. He grabbed onto it immediately. He smiled at Joey, his heart instantly melted.

"We'll adopt him," he said, turning his gaze to the Goblin King.

He rose from his throne and approached the three. He held a hand over Joey. "I relinquish any claim I have over you."

Amaltheia watched in awe as she watched the scene. The claim was released, and after being told a brief history, the happy couple left with their new adopted son.

Her stomach turned as she realized that his claim would be lifted from her soon. She couldn't help but feel somewhat reluctant to have that happen to her.

WWW

"Mama, what does love feel like?"

"It's a little hard to explain," Sarah said. "It's an elation like you've never felt before. It's the best butterflies you can feel in your stomach. A dizziness that's fun to have. All of that combined into one. It's like nothing else matters."

She studied her adopted daughter as she absorbed the information.

"You'll know," she assured her, kissing Amelia's forehead.

"It's still unclear," Amaltheia sighed.

She had been thinking long and hard about the Goblin King when she should have been thinking about more important things, like choosing who to have on her council.

She was just too distracted at the moment.

The comment Gina had made about him loving her and then Lord Ardan asking her if the two of them were lovers. Of course they weren't, but he still showed signs that he truly cared about her. He did everything he could to help and protect her, regardless of a promise he had made, he stayed by her side when she was injured in the Nature realm and he took the time to teach her things.

Was it really possible that…

'Only one way to find out,' she thought as she stood from her chair.

She made her way to her door, reached for the handle and hesitated. She didn't know why she was hesitating now. There was only one way to know and that was to ask him. What was the worst that could happen? Well rejection, but if that was the case then she could just move on, right?

She grabbed the handle, butterflies swirling in her stomach as she pulled the door open. She took a deep breath as she stepped out of her room, the door closing behind her.

She started down the hall then stopped. She really didn't want to go around asking where the Goblin King was. She hadn't seen him for a couple of days and she wasn't sure if anybody would tell her.

She thought for a moment. She remembered reading something her grandfather had written about following energy. It was similar to energy reading. You just followed the path of the energy of the present instead of the past.

She closed her eyes and concentrated on the Goblin King's energy. As she suspected it was everywhere.

"This will be like finding a needle in a haystack," she muttered.

There had to be a way to find the freshest path he took. Maybe if she focused on the Goblin King himself.

She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, concentrating. Then she felt a pull. She opened her eyes and allowed the pulling to direct her.

She continued down halls and to the door that led to the gardens. She followed the pull and found a part of the garden she didn't notice was there before.

She looked at the wall of the hedge, the pull coming from beyond it.

She reached her hand out, testing to see if it was really there. Her hand met only air, passing through the illusion.

She walked forward and was met with the sight of several hedges that were trimmed and well kept. Each one was a different shape, taking on characters she didn't recognize.

She was marvelling at one when movement caught the corner of her eye. There stood the Goblin King in a black vest, white shirt that was open at the collar, grey pants that ended in black boots. It was the most relaxed outfit she had seen him wear. In his hand he held clipping shears which told her he did this work himself.

"What are you doing here?" he asked. "This is my private garden away from everybody."

"I-I'm sorry I-I wanted to talk to you," she said, mentally kicking herself for stammering.

"Make it quick and get out of this area," he ordered.

"I…," she hesitated. She licked her dry lips.

The Goblin King didn't wait for her to talk and turned back to his work on another hedge.

"I want to know how you feel about me," she blurted out.

The Goblin stopped and looked at her.

"Not just as a daughter of a friend, or as a student but as a woman," she said, her gaze falling to the ground as shyness overcame her.

Butterflies were swirling around in her stomach like they never had before. Her heart was pounding in her chest. Her palms were actually sweating. Is this what her mother was talking about years ago?

"I know my feelings extend beyond just liking you," she said, lifting her eyes back up to him. "I need to know how you feel about me."

He stood there for a long moment, just staring at her after her confession. She shifted under his scrutiny. He felt a twinge of pity since her confession actually seemed genuine.

"I can't return those feelings," he finally answered. "My love belongs to the one that comes from Aboveground. I have foreseen it myself."

Her gaze fell back to the ground. "I-I understand."

The Goblin King raised a hand in her direction. "I relinquish any claim I have over you."

She felt as if a small rush of energy leave her. The bottom of her stomach seemed to drop out of her as she realized what just happened. She raised her gaze back up at him in confusion.

"The main house will be finished in a few days and they'll be ready to take you then," he said. "I suggest we avoid each other for the remainder of your stay."

She turned and walked back the way she had come, tears brimming her eyes.

Jareth watched her go, pain actually tugging at him. He didn't understand why. It was true his love belonged to a mortal, even though she was dead.

Once Amaltheia was out of the private gardens she shifted back to her room. She didn't trust herself not to start crying on her way back and she didn't want to be stopped from getting to her room quickly.

The door clicked shut as she shifted in. She looked around, wanting to know why her handmaiden would have been in there. An envelope lay on one of the pillows of her bed. She took it and tore it open. Inside was a short note from Flix explaining the main house was almost finished and he would be retrieving her in a few days, like the Goblin King had said. The first tears spilled out onto the page as she reread the note. She would be leaving here soon.

She sat on the bed as sobs wracked her body. He hadn't meant to cause her pain. They were never meant to be together, but it still hurt nonetheless.

Jareth had holed up in his personal quarters. There were only a few days left to Amelia's stay and after her confession he wanted to stay away from her. He didn't need this going any deeper than it had.

He tried to keep himself as busy as possible. He caught up on all of his paperwork the first day, then he was left with nothing to do.

He was sitting in a chair in front of the hearth when Gina came around to polish his boots as usual in the afternoon of the second day. She was unusually quiet. She most likely sensed that he wasn't in the greatest of moods and she didn't want to anger her king further.

"Do you want me to polish the boots you are wearing Your Highness?"

Jareth turned from the crystal he had been staring into. "No, not today," he answered distractedly, before turning back to the crystal in front of him.

She nodded and she went back to her polishing kit and started to put things away.

"You really like Lady Amelia, don't you?" he asked, lowering the crystal.

"Yes Your Highness," she answered. "I was hoping…"

"She can't stay here," he replied.

"I know… Is it possible that...she could…visit?" Gina asked. She started to shift uncomfortably under his gaze. "If it isn't…. Forget I asked anything."

"That will be up to her," he answered. "As long as she gets permission before she visits."

"Of course Your Highness," she said. She gathered her things and turned to leave. She stopped at the door and turned to her king. "She'll be alright going back home, right?"

"Of course she will," he said.

Gina nodded then excused herself from the room.

Jareth started making the crystal dance across his fingers. Of course she would be alright. She was going home at a time of peace. Everything was going to be just fine.

He stopped and held the crystal when the thought hit him that the peace usually didn't last that long. Something always happened to make the fighting start again.

Now he had to make sure she would be alright. If something happened to her, he would never forgive himself for breaking his promise to Sarah.

He peered into the crystal, focusing on Amelia. What would happen to her in the future.

Her image appeared, her back to him. She was walking among trimmed hedges that was all too familiar to him. She turned smiling, seemingly up at him.

This image seemed so familiar to him somehow.

Then he appeared. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders as they continued their walk among the hedges. She wrapped her arm around his waist and leaned her head against his shoulder.

The crystal fell from his hand to the floor and shattered into pieces before disappearing.

He didn't understand. His father, a powerful seer, had told him he would fall in love with a girl that came from the mortal plane. He had checked himself and found it to be true.

Then he thought about the vision he had always seen. It was the same he had just witnessed, but he never saw Amelia's face. He had always only seen her from behind. He had assumed it was Sarah all along when it really wasn't.

Then it hit him. His father had never said she would be a mortal. He never fully checked until now who the girl was. Again, he had assumed wrong.

He jumped from his chair, intending to shift to her room but stopped. She most likely didn't want to see him. He had told her that they should stay away from each other. That didn't matter now. She was going to be gone soon. He was running out of time to tell her the truth.

He had to break his own rule. He shifted to Amelia's door and knocked, hoping it didn't sound frantic.

"It's open," she called from within.

She faced the door to see who it was. When the Goblin King walked in she turned back to her task, not trusting herself not to start crying again.

"What do you want?" she asked.

She stood next to her bed, looking through some papers. A bundle of books sat on one side and a bundle of clothes sat at the foot of the bed. She was packing up, making sure she had everything before she left.

"It was you," he blurted out.

She stopped and looked at him. "I haven't done anything outside of this room. Accuse somebody else," she said, turning back to the papers in her hands.

"No," he said, taking a step closer to her. "I mean, it was you. You're the one I was told about. You're the one I saw."

She dropped the papers onto her bed, she crossed her arms in an effort to get herself to stop shaking as she turned to him. "About what?" she demanded, tears brimming her eyes.

"That I was meant to be with. It was you. I assumed you would be a mortal because you came from up there. That wasn't the case."

Tears were falling freely now. "If this is a joke, it's cruel," she sobbed, dropping her gaze to the floor.

He nearly winced at the sight of her tears. His rejection had hurt her more than he initially thought. He approached her, and gently placed his hands on her shoulders.

"This is no prank," he assured her. He leaned his head forward, close to hers. "Please don't leave me alone."

She raised her eyes to him, meeting his gaze. What she saw was genuine.

"Please, don't leave," he begged.

"I won't, but I have to go back. I have things I need to do," she replied. She unfolded her arms and placed and hand to his cheek. "We'll figure something out."

The Goblin King did something she didn't expect. He pulled her to him and wrapped her in a tight hug.

Her heart was beating so fast she thought it was going to burst from her chest. She wrapped her arms around him, returning the hug. She finally understood what Sarah had said with the feelings she felt at that moment.

A/N: These two are now officially together. Finally! I'm sure I'm not the only one that wanted to hit Jareth in his moment of stupidity. Now you guys understand why I wanted this chapter to be as polished as I could get it. I just hope I didn't rush them into the relationship, because I feel like I did. You guys let me know. Announcement: It has been brought to my attention a couple of times that there is a wanted lemon scene. I have no problem doing this, but I want to give you, my readers, that choice. I want to set up a poll, but only registered users can vote on it and I don't want to force anyone to become a registered user to vote, so I won't be doing that. Here's what I'm asking you to do. With your reviews/comments add a yes or no. Please vote once, it'll make counting the tally for me easier. If yes wins, I'll put in a lemon in the actual story. It'll be in italics so those of you who want to skip over it can and know when it ends. If no wins, then I'll make a separate one shot for those of you who want one. This scene won't be happening for a while so there will be plenty of time for you guys to vote on it. I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. It was a lot of fun to write and is one of my favorites so far. As always please R&R.
