~Rin's POV~
Something awoke me from my sleep. I'm not very happy about it. What even woke me up in the first place...?
As though to answer my question, I heard a loud thud from overhead. I sat up on the bed, and looked up at the trapdoor. The light seemed... blocked, in a way. As though something was blocking the light source on the other side. Is there someone there? I guess I should wait and see.
Thud.
I could see dust falling through the trapdoor. I could also see it curved slightly toward me. Whoever is trying to get through is either doing it the wrong way or really desperate. Maybe now I can find out where I am.
Thud.
The wood began to snap. I wonder if the person on the other side can tell that they're getting through. Hmm... What should I do? I don't know what I look like. For all I know I could look like an entirely different person. For all I know I could look exactly the same, save for the hair, most likely skinny figure, and black, long nails. And what about the blue flames? What if this person is trying to save me and they fall in and get burned? What if it's a demon coming to claim me and the flames protect me? I have no idea. I'll have to make myself scarce. Well, as scarce as I can in a small stone room.
Also known as, hiding under the stone table. I felt something brush against my back, around the middle. I've tried to see what's back there, but I can't. And every time I go under here, unless I duck my head low enough, I can't raise my head very high. Physically, I mean. I got into a position where I could comfortably, more or less, sit so that the stitching didn't hurt.
Thud.
The wood cracked even more. It looked like it couldn't hold very much weight anymore.
Thud.
It cracked one more time, and then broke through. Someone wearing loose jeans, no shirt, brown-haired fell through and into it. From what I could see, the person was muscular. Looked kinda like Yukio. But Yukio wouldn't wear loose jeans and no shirt. And he would comb his hair.
The person 'aah'ed and looked around, getting to his feet and dusting off himself. A black tail swayed nonchalantly behind him. If he was neater and... completely dressed, I'd think it was Yukio. Then again, I can't complain. I'm wearing brown capris/cargo pants and have the ugliest looking stitching ever and a wound that just won't heal. I have demon regenerative abilities. I can think of several reasons why it wouldn't be healing, but I just don't quite know which one.
The person turned a full circle. But...
When I saw those sea-green eyes and those glasses. I knew somewhere in my heart it was Yukio. But what twisted reality or place are we in that he would either look or dress like this?
Yukio turned again so that his back was to me. What's he looking for? It's a small stone room. I slightly felt the leather against my back again, and it was moving quickly. I slowly crawled out from underneath and silently stalked over to Yukio, staring at his neck, since he was a bit taller than me, yet he didn't seem to notice me.
I opened my mouth to speak, but no noise came out the first time. I guess it's since I haven't spoken it so long.
I tried again, and a little... hoarse squeak came out.
Apparently Yukio heard, since he jumped and fell at the same time, and ended up on the ground, facing me.
"We stared at each other for an exceedingly long time. I don't know how much time passed, but I tried to speak again.
"Yu..ki...o?" I asked. My voice was soft and hoarse, and it made my throat hurt a bit from how long it had been since I last spoke.
"...Nii-san?" Yukio mumbled, staring at me with wide... almost fearful eyes.
I'd almost forgotten how it looked like to be looked at with fear. But this reopened the wound. I nodded wordlessly; Either I look really terrible, it's the stitching, or it is both.
"Yu...kio..." I repeated, my throat already hurting from speaking, even though I had hardly said anything.
"...Is that you, Nii-san?" He asked as though he couldn't recognize me, getting to his feet. I think the reason why he looked at me in fear was that I look both really terrible and the stitching.
I nodded wordlessly, the leather beating against my back rapidly. It didn't hurt, but it kept brushing against my back. Yukio, on the other hand, took a staggering step towards me. I was unsure of what to think.
Until he held me in a tight hug, crying.
My shoulders shook silently as I sobbed.
(Line Skip)
We'd sat on the bed for a little while in silence. We'd been crying for a long time now, and we made an unspoken agreement to enjoy some silence. Finally, Yukio spoke.
"Nii-san?" He mumbled, looking down at me. I looked up at him in return, and tilted my head.
"...I'm not sure what I should ask, honestly." He sighed and rubbed the back of his head. I nodded in agreement; there was so much and yet so little to talk about.
A few more minutes of silence.
"Maybe I should ask how we should get out of here." I looked at him again. "Well, how do we get out of here?" He seemed to ask this more to himself.
I looked at the trapdoor, thinking to myself. An idea popped into my head. "Yukio." I said hoarsely, my voice still soft. Suddenly, his attention was on me. "Yes, Nii-san?"
I got up and positioned myself in a kneeling position under the trapdoor and gestured him to come to where I was, then cupping my hands together./p
"You me to use your hands as a foothold to hoist myself out?" He seemed to read my mind. I nodded vigorously, resulting in a burning pain in my neck, but I ignored it for the time being. Right now, we have to get out of here.
"I like that idea, but one thing." I tilted my head again. "I'm hoisting you out first." My eyes widened slightly at this, and I shook my head slightly, shaking my still-cupped hands a little bit, wanting him to come over here.
"Nii-san, you're hurt." He stated blandly, most likely referring to my stitching. "At least take it easy. If it starts hurting, put me down immediately." I nodded, but I think we both knew that I wouldn't. He walked over to me and positioned one foot into my hands gently, hopped a few times on his other foot, and then put all his weight on the foot in my hands. At the exact moment he did that, I hoisted him up quickly, and he quickly grabbed the edges of the hole, and almost as quickly as I hoisted him up, pulled himself up and out. After climbing out, got flat on his stomach and lowered his hand inside the hole, and I grabbed a hold of it. He didn't pull me up just yet, though. I did a few of my own hops, took a breath, and jumped as high as I could. As soon as I reached my highest point, his grip tightened on my arm and pulled me up. My other hand searched desperately for the ledge, which it found pretty quickly. With arm being pulled up and one hand pushing up, I was able to hoist myself out of the room. But immediately afterwards, I allowed myself to go limp and panted on the ground; and the flames followed us. I looked around at us, and some unspoken agreement had gone between me and the flames and they all retracted into my chest, and they became unseen.
"Let's g..." I coughed, a searing pain my throat. "Let's go." I repeated, my voice a little less soft.
He nodded in agreement and led me outside.
"Isn't this..." I hacked. "Where we... grew... up?" I looked around after we left the building. "It looks... dirtier..." I coughed a little.
"It's... well... Gehenna." Yukio answered quietly.
I just sighed. To be quite honest, regardless of how being down there may have changed me, I was sick of all the bullshit.
Yukio: Can I tell them what Rin looks like now?
Scarlet and Alexia in unision: NOPE
Rin: Can I look in a mirror?
Scarlet: NOPE
Alexia: SURE (In unision.)
Scarlet and Alexia: (Stare at each other.) RAAAAAGH! (Attach each other and go rolling.)
Rin: (Looks at Yukio.)
Yukio: (Looks at Rin.)
Alexia: Fine! He can't look in a mirror! (Walks back over to the twins.) You can't look in the mirror, and you can't tell them what Rin looks like. End of discussion.
Rin: But-!
Alexia: (Stares at him; Glares at him now.)
Rin: Okay, okay!
Yukio: Alright, alright!
Scarlet: (Nods in approval.)
Still a different direction. Hope this chapter wasn't too bad. And I know the Gehenna Spawn doesn't sound very good, but I hope that it gets better as I continue working on it. Later!
